Set global x01 variable in javascript?

Is it possible to set the x variables in javascript ? eg.
$s('x01', 'some text');
alert("my value = " + $v('x01');
does not seem to be working for me
Thanks
Jon

Hello Jon,
It seems like I owe you an apology. I didn’t pay too much attention to the logic you are trying to implement, plus I thought you’ll also consider Rutger post. To be honest, I never tried to use x01-x10 outside an on-demand process, until your thread.
So let’s start from the beginning. Although we are using the term global variables with regards to the x01-x10 variables (and they are indeed defined as global variables in the wwv_flow package) they don’t have the same functionality as application items, and in our context, mainly persistence. In fact, they were created to save us the need to define application items as temporary items, to be used only to pass values in AJAX processes.
If you set one of these variables, using the addParam() method, its value will be available to you in the on-demand process that you reference in your AJAX request, but the value will not be set in session-state (like application/page items) and will not be persistence.
If you want to use this value outside the on-demand process, you need to assign it to a page or application item. In your case the code
:P1_MY_PAGE_VALUE := apex_application.g_x01;should be part of the on-demand ‘jmf_test' process. The P1_MY_PAGE_VALUE should be set with a Source Used of “Only …” so it will be populated from session state.
The code of
var ajaxRequest = new htmldb_Get(null, $v('pFlowId'),null, 0);should only be used when you need to save session state of application/page items from JavaScript (and not with the x01-x10 variables).
Hope this time things are clearer and you’ll be able to achieve what you need. If, for any reason, they are not, please post again.
Regards,
Arie.

  • Best way to set global environment variables?

    What is the best way to set global (i.e. for all users of the computer, ideally all shells as well) environment variables under Leopard?
    I know that they can be set via ~/.bashrc, ~/.profile or in my case ~/.zshrc files in the terminal on a per user basis.
    Also, they can be set for GUI apps as well via ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist on a per user basis.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPRuntimeConfig/Artic les/EnvironmentVars.html
    The path can apparently be set globally by adding files to /etc/paths.d/*
    http://blog.plotdevice.org/2008/04/global-path-in-mac-os-x-leopard/
    Is there a way to set environment variables globally so that they are accessible to all users and all programs including nonstandard shells like zsh?
    My inclination is to set them in /etc/rc.common but that seems like it might be a bad idea. I'd prefer something more like the /etc/paths.d/* solution that only involves adding files, not modifying existing ones. They should be less likely to be overwritten in a system update later.

    They may be less likely to be overwritten than you fear. A lot of things depend on modifications to the system scripts like /etc/profile. Although I'd expect these to be broken by an upgrade to Leopard, for example, they have survived all Tiger upgrades on my machine. You could always have them source scripts in /usr/local, say, so that the work involved in reconfiguring them if they are overwritten is minimal. (Or you could just install your versions in /usr/local and make the system scripts symlinks to those versions - if anything is overwritten, it would be the symlink rather than the file itself. An automated start up script could even check and recreate the symlink if necessary.)

  • Global PATH variables?[solved]

    How do i set global path variables in archlinux??
    I need to do this because ie, I am using gmrun, and I just installed xarchiver. But gmrun cant find xarchiver since it is located in /opt/xfce4/bin/.. I can append this to my PATH in .zshrc/ .bashrc file, but this only helps when i run it through the terminal.
    I want to also be able to have a global alias file, to run the alias xterm = 'xterm -bg black -fg white' through gmrun.
    Couldnt find any documents on how this works in archlinux.

    For the path, run 'bash /etc/profile' to update the path for the current terminal. You can also logout then relogin to set them for the whole session. No files needs changing.
    For the alias, create a 'etc/profile.d/alias.sh' file. add the alias in it and give it executable permission. For the change to take effect, you'll need to run  'bash /etc/profile' or logout/relogin.

    In short, I want the code within:
    ----- form1.#subform[0].Item1Cost::calculate: - (JavaScript, client) -------------------------------
    ...to be able to access the variables I have created in:
    ----- form1.#subform[0]::initialize: - (FormCalc, client) ------------------------------------------
    (I have assumed that this is where I would store Global variables)
    At this stage, the global variables cannot be accessed with the configuration above.  The only was I can get this to work is to cut and paste the global vairables into each form1.#subform[0] item, which of course defeats the purpose of global variables!  I plan to have many more items so would not want to duplicate the global variables for all of them!
    Can somebody show me how to do this?
    Any help is very much appreciated!

    Hi MorisTM,
    Thanks for the reply!
    Yes, I saw that option (I should have mentioned I already knew about it), but was wondering if there is a way I can do this via code.
    There are two reason I want to be able to do it via code (only one of which may be valid):
    1) I can automatically generate my pricing code form another inhouse app.
    2) I am hoping that later on once I get this working I will be able take it a step further and get the data directly from a MySQL database!
    Cheers though!
    Any other suggestions?

  • In OBIEE 11g, how can you set a presentation variable value from javascript ?

    I want to set up presentation variable from a javascript variable. Does anyone knows the workaround for this ?

    SriniVEERAVALLI,
    Thanks for your suggestions. I want to make a custom prompt that is only my requirement. From JS I have made a custom slider prompt now I want to use this slider prompt to pass selected value in presentation variable. Since, we have slider prompt only for numbers, I have to use it for other values.
    I just want to make my post looks simple and focus on the specific problem.
    Anyways, thanks a lot for taking time to reply. Appreciate your help.

  • Setting variables in Javascript

    Hello all,
    We are trying to set a variable in javascript like so:
    var myFish = $v('P22_EPSB_SGF_GROUP').value;
    does not work. Yet the statement
    if ($v('P22_EPSB_SGF_GROUP') == '2')
    can be evaluated.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    lilhelp,
    The $v function returns the value so you don't need the ".value"
    The $x function returns the element so you would need the ".value"

  • Set jsp variable in javascript

    I have a simple question.
    I have a section in jsp as below
    <%!
    String initial = "true";
    %>
    Can I set the "initial" parameter in javascript function in the same jsp like below?
    function init() {
    <%! initial = "true"; %>
    If not, would you please give me the syntax to do it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mustafa

    the jsp scriptlet code, everything in between your <% ... %> marks, is compiled on the server.
    the javascript code is run on the client.
    therefore, you can NOT edit the scriptlet code from javascript. it cannot be done.
    you CAN however edit your javascript code with the jsp scriplet. see the below example, which shows me setting a javascript variable based on some scriplet code...
    <% String name = "Joe Schmoe"; %>
    <script>
    function doSomething() {
    var something = '<%= name %>';
    </script>
    When that page is rendered it will look like this...
    <script>
    function doSomething() {
    var something = 'Joe Schmoe';
    </script>

  • Any way to set global variables except EAS console?

    Hi pros,
    I am searching for a way to set global variables (used by business rules) automatically.
    I got several variables which should change each month. I know the rule to set them.
    However, I cannot find any way to set them through scripting or something else.
    I tried to research EAS repository. The one that I found relevant is HBRVariables table.
    I cannot find any tool can help this.
    Any one knows how?
    Appreciated......
    Casp Huang

    Yes you can use substitution variables in business rules and they are widely used, it is relatively easy to automate the changing of values for subtitution values.
    You can also put a sub var into the default value for a global variable in business rules.

  • Javascript allows setting of more variables? CP7

    Hi,
    I'm running CP7 and am just getting my feet wet with javascripting. Will javascript allow me to set more variables than I can through advanced actions? I am interested in trying to manipulate the quiz score vars that report to my LMS to customize some stuff. I want to change things like cpQuizPointsscored. Wondered if it would be possible through js, or is js limited by what it can get/set the same as the limitations withing advanced actions?
    Thanks!
      Lori

    You can do anything you want with any variable that is reported to the LMS as long as you "hijack" the functions and block Captivate from reporting. You would need to add a function that you use the call any scoring functions, set a boolean variable and if that variable is not true, return out of the function, thus disabling Captivate from reporting the score.
    Based on how you set up the SCORM reporting in your Quiz Settings, Captivate will report to the LMS what you tell it to report. You can also turn off any reporting and make all of the SCORM call through JavaScript yourself. You can include the sormdriver.js file to your output html file after publishing without any reporting.
    It's much easier if you create your own SCORM file to make any calls you wish to make.
    We use our own SCORM files and control everything ourselves. You need to have a decent understanding of SCORM though to use this method.

  • Accessing c4 Variables in Javascript

    How do you pass a Captivate 4 variable (User or System) in Javascript when the published .SWF is embedded in another tool like Lectora or Flash?
    In Captivate, you can set a value into a Lectora variable (VARmyLectoraVariable.set('myvalue');, but I don't know how to access the Captivate variable.
    When run from Captivate, this works:
    Captivate.GetVariable('CaptivateVariable');
    But when the published .swf from Captivate is inserted into Lectora and run, I get a JavaScript error ('Captivate' is undefined).
    How do you reference the Captivate variable in JavaScript when the .swf is not embedded in the Captivate project html file?
    Thank you!

  • Global Application variable

    How do I set a global application variable in a Swing application?
    Namely
    MDI display opens a new window
    new window sets a variable
    close the new window and return to the MDI window
    MDI window needs to use the variable.
    Note: the new window is is its own class object.

    What are you talking about?
    Static variables are "global".
    In some class (it does not really matter which) define
    a static variable. O.K. now you have a "global"
    variable.
    Some people may say that this is "bad" programming
    practice, but it is what you asked for.public static variables of public classes are 'global' in the sense you can refer to them if anywhere in an application. Public classes are also 'global' in this sense.
    However, we don't call them global variables, they are class variables. A global variable is generally defined to be one that is associated with the running application. It has no context other than that. It can be used anywhere at any time without any qualifications. In other words, the are terrible.
    I had to maintain an application that had 50 or so global variables. Some of these variables represented the exact same piece of information so it was cruicial during modifications to make sure that they were kept in sync. Don't use this type of design.

  • Corrupt Global User Variable?

    We're running ICM 7.5 and over the weekend, calls stopped routing to one skill.  AT&T, our first line, worked with Cisco and after research/testing, came back with an answer that the global user variable was corrupt.  Has anyone experienced this?  It seems odd that out of the blue this becomes corrupt, especially over a weekend when call volume is low.
    My team, along with Network and AT&T did a process of elimination, removing translation route & global user to validate call routing and adding each piece back.  When the variable was added, call routing failed to backup routing.
    Thanks,
    Jill M Gorrie

    Hi,
    User variables are meant to be used in web forms and web forms only. You can certainly pass their values to business rules when you used them in POV or page section of the form during save. All you need to do is to create another business rule (local or global) variable in business rule on the corresponding dimension and use it in your business rule. If you enable running the business rule on save and using the form values for variables options in form properties, business rules would replace the values of business rule variables with the values that are set in user variables.
    Cheers,

    Environment variables and their values set from within a user process has their scope and lifetime limited to the process and its subprocesses. See java.lang.ProcessBuilder class and its API documentation for setting env for a subprocess that will be started by a ProcessBuilder instance. Even in the C programming we have the same limitation for the environment.
    Since they are not globally set, system command like env or Java method like System.getenv() can't see them.
