Set_lk_max_lockers with perl

Hi all:
How can i change the default value in DbEnv with perl?, i have a system running with apache2 ando mod_perl2, in certain point i get the error: "Lock table is out of available locker entries".
The documentation says that can be fixed by changing this parameter, but doesn't say how to do it in perl.
suggestions?

Can anyone explain to me what those lockers are?
Here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/faq/xml_faq.html#31 the FAQ says: "In Berkeley DB terminlogy, a \"locker\" is something like a database, a transaction or a cursor." .
But at the same time it says: "For lockers, you should use at least the maximum number of simultaneously referenced pages you may have."
What does the number of concurrent transactions/cursors have in common with the number of simultaneously referenced pages??
Perhaps that is a bug in the FAQ and it should read "For *locks*, you should use... number of simultaneously referenced pages...." ???
Thanks!

  • Integrating PL/SQL with Perl

    Hello All,
    I have just started learning PL/SQL and this my first R&D stuff with PL/SQL :)
    I have a very basic beginner question.
    Suppose I want to insert 1 lakh rows in a table through Perl. One and easiest way to do is to prepare and execute insert queries using Perl module - 'DBI' module in a loop
    But I guess this will send lot of traffic over the LAN. What I rather feel is that if I execute these 1 lakh SQL queries using PL/SQL it will be comparatively more network efficient and fast.
    So I have following questions:
    1. Is it possible to integrate PL/SQL with Perl using 'DBI' module
    2. Is there a way in PL/SQL that it will return status of all the 1 Lakh SQL queries after execution that will let me know which SQL queries were successfully executed and which failed.

    1. Is it possible to integrate PL/SQL with Perl using 'DBI' moduleyes, just use a PL/SQL statement instead of a sql one
    2. Is there a way in PL/SQL that it will return status of all the 1 Lakh SQL queries after execution that will let me know which SQL queries were successfully executed and which failed.yes, you have to manage an exception block for each row and store the single row result in a cumulative variable:
    The following code is an incomplete and not testet example:
    my $STM = "
    declare
    ret varchar2(10);
    begin
      begin
        insert into mytab values(1);
        ret := ret||'0';
      exception
        when others then
          ret:=ret||'1';
      end;
      begin
        insert into mytab values(2);
        ret := ret||'0';
      exception
        when others then
          ret:=ret||'1';
      end;
    ... and so on ...
      select ret into :OUTRES from dual;
    end;";
    my $outres;
    my $hnd = $db->prepare($STM);
    $hnd->bind_param_inout( ":OUTRES", \$outres, 10);  -- 10 is the variable length, e.g. the number of inserts
    $hnd->execute();
    print "inserts output: $outres\n";At the end of the script you should hava a string of bits. A 0 for each successful insert an 1 for each unsuccessful...

  • Best method for timestamping? (for later use with perl script)

    What is the best method that I can use to timestamp events in Linux for later use with perl script?
    I am performing some energy measurements.. where I am running several tasks separated by 20 secs in between. Before I start any execution of tasks, I always place initial delay for me to start the script and start the measurement device.
    My problem is that I don't know how long is that first delay exactly. So to solve this, I thought I could use date commands to time stamp all tasks.. or at least to timestamp first dela.
    Here is example of what I am doing:
    1st delay
    task 1
    20s
    task 2
    20s
    task 3..... etc
    What would be the best to use?

    logger.
    It posts messages straight to the system log.  You can see the message, in all its glory using tools like journalctl.  You will see the message, the date, time, host name, user name, and the PID of logger when it ran.

  • Help needed with perl Image::Magick module

    I don't know if this is the right place to post this (it might belong in the Newbie corner instead), but I'll give it a try.
    I need an Image::Magick Perl module (and a load of other modules, which I have found) for a program I desperately need. Now, the only thing I know about Perl is that v. 6 is supposed to be coming out soon - apart from that, I'm blank. The installation is giving me some problems.
    The installation guide is somewhat ambiguous. It says:
    Next, edit Makefile.PL and change LIBS and INC to include the appropriate path information to the required libMagick library. You will also need paths to JPEG, PNG, TIFF, etc. delegates if they were included with your installed version of ImageMagick.
    In the Makefile.PL which comes with the package, these two are defined:
    'INC' => '-I../ -I.. -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/X11R6/include/X11 -I/usr/include/libxml2',
    'LIBS' => ['-L/usr/lib -lMagick -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -L/usr/lib -ltiff -ljpeg -lpng -ldpstk -ldps -lXext -lXt -lSM -lICE -lX11 -lbz2 -lxml2 -lpthread -lm -lpthread'],
    I haven't changed anything in them, because I haven't got the slightest idea what to change and to what. When I run the installation procedure ('perl Makefile.PL', 'make', and 'make test'), I get an error message during the test (but not before that). Here's the entire output from 'make test':
    /bin/sh ../magick.sh PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1 /usr/bin/perl "-MExtUtils::Command::MM" "-e" "test_harness(0, 'blib/lib', 'blib/arch')" t/*.t t/bzlib/*.t t/jng/*.t t/jpeg/*.t t/mpeg/*.t t/png/*.t t/ps/*.t t/tiff/*.t t/x/*.t t/xfig/*.t
    /bin/sh: ../magick.sh: No such file or directory
    make: *** [test_dynamic] Error 127
    There is mention somewhere that one might compile the module together with ImageMagick or with Perl, but I don't think I'm ready for that...
    Is there anyone skilled in Perl who can tell me what it is that I'm doing wrong, alternatively make a package file...?

    I've found two other packages that I needed in AUR, but when I run the make test for the program that I need (fontlinge), it still complains that it can't find the Image::Magick module. I already have the imagemagick package installed, though, that's why I thought I'd have to install and compile the perl module separately.
    Here's the output from the 'make test' for fontlinge:
    make -C modules
    make[1]: Entering directory `/home/eyolf/temp/src/fontlinge-2.0.1/modules'
    make[2]: Entering directory `/home/eyolf/temp/src/fontlinge-2.0.1/modules/fontlinge'

    It seems some required modules are missing.
    How to get missing modules differs from _which_ module you are missing.
    You can get modules like DBI from your distributions CD
    or search the web for a RPM/DEB/...-file. www.cpan.org is always a good adress.
    It may be a good idea to configure your perl-CPAN-Module as ROOT(!!!) by typing
    perl -MCPAN -eshell
    It is VERY important that you do not just 'su' to root but 'su -' on SuSE linux.
    Once you have configured perl, you can install CPAN-modules by
    perl -MCPAN -e 'install MODULENAME'
    Other modules like Image::Magick require you to have the programs installed
    they belong to.
    If you are missing a 'fontlinge'-module, you have not installed this
    program correctly. :-)
    If the missing module begins with a '-' sign this module might miss,
    because it is not possible to DEACTIVATE it, i.e. unwanted utf8 encoding.
    make: *** [test] Error 255
    If this makes sense to anyone, I'd be very happy. (For the record: Fontlinge is - or at least seems to be - the only decent font manager I've found for Linux. This seems to be a gaping, wide open black hole in the Linux world... There's gfontview, opcion, fontpage, and a couple of other minor apps that I've found, but none of them are functional for anything but the most basic operations, and on the whole, there doesn't seem to be much between the KDE font manager - which really makes one wonder how far the KDE people want to go in their emulation of windows... - and the font editor FontForge, which is great as a font editor, but overkill as a viewer, and hardly a manager.)

  • How to insert document into xmltype column through an http post request with perl

    Oracle 11.2.0.3
    Windows server 2008r2
    Apache tomcat 7.0
    Oracle APEX 4.2.1

    I would like to insert a XML document into the database through an APEX restful web service. The POST into the web service in done with PERL. The following code will insert an empty record in a table with column of XMLType type.
    Perl Code
    use strict;
    use warnings;
    use LWP::UserAgent;
    use HTTP:Headers;
    my $headers = HTTP::Headers->new();
    my $url = "http://host:port:apex/<application_workspace>/<restfull service module>/<uri template>/
    my $sendthis = ('<?xml version="1.0" enconding="utf-8"?>
    <students>

    <./students>';)
    $headers -> header('Content-Type' => 'text/xml; charset=utf-8');
    my $request = HTTP:Request->new('POST', $url, $headers, $sendthis);
    $request-> protocol('HTTP/1.1');
    my $browser = LWP::UserAgent->new();
    my $response = $browser->request($request);
    my $gotthis= $response->content();
    my $the_file_data = $response->content();
    APEX restful service
    Method: POST
    Source type: PL/SQL
    MIME Types allowed: blank
    require secure access: none
    source:
    {declare
    doc varchar2(32000);
    begin
    insert into table <column name>
    values(doc);
    commit;
    end;
    Table code
    { create table <tablename>
    (column name XMLType>);
    The above code will insert an empty column into the table.
    Any ideas why?

    It's a really bad idea to assemble XML using strings and string concatenation in SQL or PL/SQL. First there is a 4K limit in SQL, and 32K limit in PL/SQL, which means you end up constructing the XML in chunks, adding uneccessary complications. 2nd you cannot confirm the XML is valid or well formed using external tools.
    IMHO it makes much more sense to keep the XML content seperated from the SQL / PL/SQL code
    When the XML can be stored a File System accessable from the database, The files can be loaded into the database using mechansims like BFILE.
    In cases where the XML must be staged on a remote file system, the files can be loaded into the database using FTP or HTTP and in cases where this is not an option, SQLLDR.

    Hey Judy,
    From my understanding oleauto.h and cl.exe are not National Instruments files. My suggestion would be to google the files - I found a bunch of hits for both the files. It may also be helpful to post on a discussion forum dedicated to VC++ 6.0. You may want to try the Microsoft newsgroups or I'm sure there are tons of other online.
    I hope this helps! Once you compile the dll if you have problems calling it from TestStand please post back.

    Some additional info would probably be helpful.
    What is your programming enviironment? Java?
    In any case I suspect that you will need to use the OCI to deal with specific Oracle types such as user defined object types -- thats not standard ANSI SQL.
    In Java I believe you need to use OPAQUE, there are some examples out there. I'm mostly a PL/SQL developer with some Java expereince so others here are more qualifed to answer your question more directly.

  • Problem with Perl Function

    Hello,
    My MacBook Pro is running on Mac OS X v 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard), and I was trying to run a perl script on the terminal. The script contains perl functions, such as chomp, split, next; however, the perl in my MacBook could not read (recognize) those functions. I checked the perl versions and found both 5.10.0 and 5.8.9 installed at /usr/bin/perl. Still, the perl functions are not working. Also, when I ran the command "perldoc perl", it returned "No documentation found for perl".
    So, the questions are:
    1. Is perl properly installed in my MacBook?
    2. If not, how can I install it properly since the perl comes with OS as default?
    3. Why the perl functions are not working?
    Any help will be much appreciated.

    So, the questions are:
    1. Is perl properly installed in my MacBook?
    It should be. It is installed on all my Mac systems, and I've been known to write perl scripts using chomp, split, and next.
    2. If not, how can I install it properly since the perl comes with OS as default?
    As has been mentioned, perhaps you need to either to do a clean install (backing up first; maybe backing up twice).
    3. Why the perl functions are not working?
    Your system does not seem right. Have you been trying to install your own perl packages? Manually? Via MacPorts.org? Via Fink.sf.net? Have you been trying to set your own Perl environment variables, and got them wrong?
    The perl statements you want to use are core perl statements, and if you can invoke perl at all, they should work.

    using export PATH=$PATH:/usr/ucb and try ... do it No, please don't. There is no compiler in /usr/ucb, and it is probably a very good idea to compile without /usr/ucb in your path. /usr/ucb/cc is only a wrapper to extend a very old SunOS compatibility environment onto an existing compiler.
    If you don't have the current Sun compiler suite on your machine (go ahead and download it, it's free), then you can use gcc by invoking "perlgcc" instead of "perl" on the module's makefile.

  • Interacting with perl through java.

    I'm trying to do something with Java that I haven't managed to do until now. I'm trying to interact with a perl process giving him input and reading output.
    I have a perl module that has several functions and the idea is to launch a process in a java program with the following line :
    perl -e 'while(<STDIN>) { eval $_ ; }'
    and then give the process the necessary input and the read the given output.
    For instance with the above line you can do the following:
    [user@host ~]$ perl -e 'while(<STDIN>) { eval $_ ; }'
    print "Hello World\n";
    Hello World
    Here is the code I'm using:
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    public class ExecProgram {
    private static Runtime runtime;
    private static Process process;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
         runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
         try {
         process = runtime.exec("/usr/bin/perl -e 'while(<STDIN>) { eval $_ ; }'");
              process = runtime.exec(cmd);
         } catch (IOException e) {
              System.err.println("Error executing process");
         PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(process.getOutputStream());
         String commandLine = "print \"Hello World\n\"";
         out.println(commandLine);
         BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));
         try {
         String line;
         while ((line = in.readLine()) != null)
              System.out.println("Output: "+line);
         } catch (IOException e) {
         System.err.println("Error reading output");
    As you can see I'm using Runtime class to interact with the process but nothing happens if replace the exec line with:
    process = runtime.exec("ls");
    I can see in the output the listing of the current directory.
    Have you ever tried something like this? Is this the correct way for doing this?

    Have you ever tried something like this? I have. Here's a rough sample:

  • Replace line feed with perl

    I'm trying to replace 'line feed & space' with a line feed:
    perl -pi -e 's/\n /\n/g' ~/Desktop/scrap
    With no luck. Any help?

    I'm guessing this is related to line endings. If the file has legacy mac line endings it will behave as a single line. Try running the following. If it reports 0, then you'll need to convert the line endings:
    <pre style="border: 1px solid #ddd; padding-left: .75ex; padding-top: .25em; padding-bottom: .25em; margin-top: .5em; margin-bottom: .5em; margin-left: 1ex; max-width: 25ex; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; color: #444; background: #eee; line-height: normal">wc -l < ~/Desktop/scrap</pre>
    The following will convert old mac line endings (as well as windows) to unix:
    <pre style="border: 1px solid #ddd; padding-left: .75ex; padding-top: .25em; padding-bottom: .25em; margin-top: .5em; margin-bottom: .5em; margin-left: 1ex; max-width: 40ex; overflow: auto; font-size: 10px; font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; color: #444; background: #eee; line-height: normal">perl -pi -e 's/\r\n?/\n/g' ~/Desktop/scrap</pre>

    I suggest that you find a better
    source of information. I was finally able to make the
    date_r method work in this example but I had to write
    my own tz_offset function.
    I agree, I'd find a better example somewhere. Looking at that page, I'm fairly certain that those examples are simply taken out of much larger scripts without regard to whether they'd actually run as written.
    And the date_r subroutine is just plain odd, if you ask me. I'm not sure why he'd go to the trouble of writing it like that when he could do it with two lines of code. Unless he can't use POSIX on Windows...
    First, he'd just have to add
    <pre class="command">use POSIX qw(strftime);</pre>to the top of his script, then he could get the date/time formatted more or less like he had it with this:
    <pre class="command">my $date = strftime("%A, %e %B %Y %T %z", localtime(time));</pre>I'm not sure about the time zone offset being "-500" and not "-0500", which is more what I'm used to seeing.
    This page has a more straightforward explanation and example of how to use Net::SMTP. Just go through it down to just before "Other Neat Stuff with Net::SMTP."

  • How to access Oracle database with perl ?

    Hi Anyone/Everyone,
    This may not be the best place to post this, but I don't know where else to get help.
    Basically I have some sql I need to run on an Oracle db on Unix, but I need to run it from NT.
    There are a number of perl modules that I think may of use, ie. DBI, DBD::Oracle, etc.
    but I don't know how to use them.
    Can someone show me what to, please ? Examples would be good.
    I have very little experience with this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    See this link at otn.technet.oracle.com It has several perl scripts which interact with the Oracle Database.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheeka

  • Problems with perl 5.8

    Hi everyone.
    I'm running Solaris 8 in a dual p III 450Mhz box with 512 Mb RAM. I started to download every perl module I need to do my research, but after installing some modules I got this:
    perl -MCPAN -e shell
    Out of memory!
    Callback called exit.
    BEGIN failed--compilation aborted.
    What is the meaning of that?. What memory is perl talking about?. I did a "top" and I found the box with 422 MB RAM free and an uptime 0.02.
    What should be the problem?.
    Thanks alot.

    I have tried modifying the path and environment
    variables without success. I have heard from some
    classmates that these perl problems have been encountered and solved before. Have changed path on system/user level or on command prompt.

  • Compiling Apache with PERL module on Solaris 8

    Hi there,
    After the Richard's reply, I found the Apache sources on the intallation CD 2/2. And after a while I successful compile the apache WITH ITS STANDARD modules with the following command:
    $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/apache \
    --enable-module=most \
    --enable-shared=max \
    --with-layout=Solaris
    $ make
    $ make install
    But the above "configure" does not compile the companion mod_perl. So, I tried:
    ... $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/apache \
    --enable-module=most \
    --enable-shared=/usr/src/apache/mod_perl/src/modules/perl/mod_perl.c \
    --add-module=max \
    --enable-shared=max \
    --with-layout=Solaris
    but the above command just copies the "mod_perl.c" to the diretory
    "usr/src/apache/src/modules/extra"
    missing the corresponding *.h
    Then trying
    $ make
    The compilation fails because of ALL the
    files on the directory
    /usr/perl5/5.00503/sun4-solaris/CORE
    are not found.
    Any Hint?
    Thanks in advance
    Csar

    have you tried downloading the source from apache.org and compiling it?
    ive installed apache on sol8 many times, but all from apache.. not from the cd..
