Set Pages to save in MS Word format by default

Hello,
I am looking for a way (AppleScript, plist, automator, anything...) to set Pages to save in MS Word by default. Every time I need to send a file, I need to save (Export) a duplicate copy in MS Word.
This can easily be done in OpenOffice (in Settings) but I would prefer to use iWork and Pages instead.
Thanks

I feel that using Pages as a .doc editor is absurd but I can't change users behaviour.
So, I understand why fruhulda is reluctant to give a reference to my script.
On the other hand, I feel that delivering a script is more safe for the user than doing surgery by hand in the plist files.

  • How to set pages to save files in msoffice format (docx) by default?

need to be  compatable with outside world...  have current version of pages.

The native document architecture for any version of Pages is not .doc/x, but .pages. It cannot be configured to save in the MS Word format by default. If you must be truly compatible with the outside world, then use Word from Office for Mac 2011, which does save natively in .docx format.

  • Can I make Pages save docs as Word docs by default?

I am on Mavericks and Pages 5.0. I notice that even the check box is gone in the Save panel and there is now no Save As option.
All searches resulted in older posts.
I don't want to buy Word or futz with Open Office. It seems everyone I interact with has to have the Word format.
    Thanks,
    Don

    >Too cheap for Office, right?
Well, not really. I have Pages, I'd like to use it, seems like a fine program. I would prefer not to feed the MS machine. I'll try LibreOffice. I'll end up buying Office if I have to, though it seems like a waste.
As best I can tell, the Option Save As route doesn't give me the opportunity to save to a Word format. Before Mavericks/Pages 5, there was a check box at the bottom of the Save panel that would allow me to do that (though not as a default). Since I updated, that check box is no longer apprearing.

  • How do I set Pages to automatically open all Word (.doc) documents?

Being a relatively new Mac User, I haven't yet figured out how to associate programs with particular file types.
How do I set Pages to automatically open all Word (.doc) documents?
    Thanks.

    Hello Argelius
If you select a word file in the Finder and do File>Get Info you will see a section in there where you can specify which application should be used to open files of that type.

  • Can't send documents created in pages and exported in windows word format

Created a document in Pages then exported them into a Windows Word format to my desktop then opened Mail and attached the document to Mail. Whenever I hit the send button I get an error message: "syntax argument error." My ISP is yahoo. They researched the problem and stated it has to be a Mail problem. Anyone out there had this problem? How did you rectify it?
    Thanks anything will help...

Does sound like a mail problem. You could try right clicking on the file & create archive of ... This will create a zip file. Try sending the zip file.
Do you have another account? Try that.
Try another mail program like thunderbird.

  • My ipad2 isn't sending a particular document from pages in either pdf or word format.  It's a really important document that I need for a project at work.  Any help would be gratefully recieved!  I've tried all the usual stuff I can think of such as reset

I've tried reset, power down/power up and shutting down the program but this document just won't send.  Not from my iPhone either!  I've tried doing a copy all and pasting it but it comes out all weird!  PLEASE HELP!

Have you tried renaming the document something very short and simple?

  • Why does new pages export a document to Word format as a complete mess?! It is impossible to work with such crap!

As we can not see the "complete mess" maybe you should describe the problem to us?
Or were you just letting us know?

  • Can I save from the "pages" app to the "Dropbox" app, and will it save the footnotes if I save in word format in Dropbox?

    As the headline.
I would like to know, is I can save files from pages (and other typing apps), to Dropbox, and still keep the footnotes if I save it in word format. I want to be able to open it on my PC, and have a normal word document with all the corrections from the iPad.
    Thanks in advance

  • How to set pages to export all doc's in PDF format as default

Could anybody tell me how I can set pages to save/export all the documents produce in PDF format. I run a small plumbing company and like to send all my estimates in PDF.

You can use Automator action –Launch AppleScript, insert following code into:
set destF to (path to desktop folder)
    tell application id "com.apple.iWork.Pages"
set fName to name of the front document as string
set fName to text 1 thru -7 of fName
set destLoc to ((destF as string) & fName & ".pdf")
export front document to file destLoc as PDF
    end tell
Select no input, you can limit this service for Pages only (not necessary), and save it as Service.
In system Preferences you can now add shortcut for this action.
Script always export front (active) document to PDF on your Desktop (overwrite existing!!).

  • I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why?

I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro for one year and it is valid to november 2015, but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why ?

    Hi m_karhulinna,
If you have Acrobat Pro, you can save directly to Word format from within Acrobat by choosing File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document.
(It sounds like you may be trying to use the ExportPDF online service, which is separate from Acrobat, and not necessary in your case.)
    Best,
    Sara

  • Documents in Microsoft Word format

Appleworks would be wonderful if it was just easy to read and save documents in Word format, or spreadsheets in Excel format. Are there any plans to add this capability that anyone is aware of?

It would be equally wonderful if Word or Excel would allow users to save in (and open) the AppleWorks format. While Word or Excel will never do that, your AppleWorks does have the capability -- I've been sending AW spreadsheets as Excel documents to Windows™ users for years. Older versions of AppleWorks (and ClarisWorks) have included translators accessible from the "Save As..." dialog.
Can you be a little more specific about the problem you are encountering? If your version of AW lacks the "Save As..." options, you might have to consider acquiring the MacLinkPlus translators.

  • I cannot send a Pages document, Word format via email from my ipad if it has a picture in the the doc.  I can send a Word doc if it does not have a pic in it or pdf with a pic.  Any thoughs why a word doc with a pic in it won't email in Pages?  thanks

I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture.  If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender?  Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it.  I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?
    thanks,
    drainguy41

If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read.

  • Problem with "Save as Adobe PDF format" in Excel and Word

    Hi
When I use printing zone in Excel and make a «Save as Adobe PDF format» (menu File / Save as Adobe PDF), the first save is well done. But when I make it a second time, what's not in the printing zone is printing in the document.
I have also problem with the «Save as Adobe PDF format» in Word. The images superposition are not well print.
I'm using Windows 7 in french, Office 2010 french and Adobe Acrobat XI standard. All is in the latest version.
    Thanks

The Save As PDF feature in Office2008 Call up a PDF  Creator similar to the AdobePDF Print Driver. whch OX.6 can't use.
To create Pdf you have to use method used:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/acrobats-adobe-pdf-printer-replaced-in-snow-leopard.php
Not before you attempt to use this method if  Rossetta is not installed. pop in your Systems DVD and install Rosetta. Then follow directions to install the Adobe Quality PDF Automator Script which will show up in the Print Menu. Click on Print > then click PDF. Then Click on Adobe quality PDF.  AS for setting up Job options and other details Supposedly your suppose to  have access. But I have no idea.
First thing Rosetta should be installed out of the box. and Second Adobe should install this Script from their installer. So their should be no intervention from the user. it should just work. Early report when OSX.6 first came out almost no one was able to get this to work. and I see periodic reports that people still can't get it tork and they have to to resort to saving as .ps files then droping on distiller.
    Good luck.

  • Is there any way to save a duplicate Word copy of something I save in Pages?

    I am saving a Pages file and was wondering;
Can you save an exact copy, at the same time, while saving that Pages file? Or do I have to do that seperately?
    Just wondering!!

Separately, unless you choose to save it only in the Word format.
