So, i have a great April 1st prank for the agency.
I used ARD to install the Broken Display Screensaver to everyone here, but I want to use a Unix Command to set the screensaver and activate it...
Everyone here is on 10.5 or 10.6
Is it easy to just use ARD to send a command to the current user that sets their screensaver and activates it?
It's a good harmless IT prank that stops as soon as they move the mouse, but freaks them out for a couple seconds..

I didn't have an NLS_LANG user env variable set, so i set it to "AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252"
Problem i'm having is editing my xmltype data... i have some french accented characters in there, but when saved through SQLDeveloper, they come out as:

I find it odd it doesnt tell me what character set is used. If i run a dump 1016 on a varchar2 on the same table, i get:

Any ideas? This is frustrating.... xml data gets corrupted everytime it's edited in SQLDeveloper.

Want to connect to client's server with ARD, and run ARD on the server.
Hi, I have Apple Remote Desktop and use it to monitor, update and service clients servers. I also have client's buy ARD to use internally to access, update and maintain computers on the network.
When I try to access/sign-in to a server with ARD, when it's running ARD, it will not connect.
What is the proper way to ARD into a server and still be able to run ARD on the server to connect with and work on other computers on the local network?
Thanks in advance.On the client server install of ARD, open ARD, select preferences, select security tab, and make sure "allow control of this computer when ARD is running" is selected.

Problems with ARD and headless MacMini (new 1,66 DualCore)
Hi,
i would like to set my brandnew MacMini 1,66 as webserver.
And there the problem starts: when the MacMini runs headless (without monitor attached) it thinks that there is a television attached and i get a very distorted screen when connecting via ARD 2.2. Attaching the DVI-VGA adapter does not help!
How can i tell the Mini to switch to a "normal" resolution without attaching a monitor?
I seems not to be very useful to connect a monitor to a computer that is supposed to run headless...

I need to have full resolution on the remote G5 which has no monitor connected, but only get to choose between PAL and NTSC TV resolution. This is really annoying, and in my opinion a major bug in ARD 3.1 and below. Why is the user forced to see such a small remote window if the remote computer is capable of much more?

T7700 help with setting up with tv and game consoles
HI i wanted to set up my T7700 suround sound with my tv and two game consoles i know that i can connect it to one console and use an adapter to get actual sound sound. What I wanted to is if i could connect it to mulitiple consoles and the tv at once so i dont have to muck around changing it from port to port?. I know that this is a computer system but i was just wanding whether it is posible or not?.

Problems with ARD and SwUpd Unix Command

I have a problem sending UNIX commands to my clients, I work in a school with 500 macs, with 10.4 and 10.5 systems and all the computers download the updates from my Software Update Server, but when I try to send the command from ARD (sudo softwareupdate -i -a) the clients attemp to connect to Apple's servers instead my own SUS. It seems when I try to install with sudo command, overrides the address of my server.

What's the best set up with AppleTV and Mac Mini with 2TB external HD?

I have an Apple TV and 2TB external HD connected to my Mac Mini.
I want to stream through my Mac Mini and I want all my media stored in my external HD.
What's the best setting so that I sync only one way to my external HD the contents of my Apple TV? I don't want anything except unwatched media on my Apple TV.
I'm fairly new to Mac world and Apple TV, as far as I read iTunes and Apple TV sync both ways,how do I achieve a one way sync to my Mac Mini with external HD?

While on the subject a friend of mine told me that the streaming videos doesn't work well,it kinda freezes and stops but the music stream is fine. Is that true or his set up is wrong?
It's not necessarily his configuration set up that's wrong, it's probably that he has a poor network by virtue of too great a distance or interference from other networks or other household equipment. -
Creating simple shell script packages to deploy with ARD and TaskServer
I am looking for a simple step by step on how to create a package that can be deployed using ARD, to run a simple shell script like
"softwareupdate -i -a"
A brief search here returned nothing, but perhaps I was not using the correct terms.
Ultimately, I want to use ARD to run software update on ~400 Macs.

BillIf I send it as a unix command, it will run only on machines that are currently awake and responding to ARD.
If I can set it up as a package, then I can use Task Server to "deploy" the command to machines that are not currently online. When the machines next contact the Task Server, they will be told to run softwareupdate. -
Setting up with Vonage and Comcast modems
I've tried twice to set up my TC to no avail. I know I'm not doing something right but am unsure what it is. I've read the manuals--I'm a bit challenged in these areas.
My current set up is: Comcast modem to Vonage modem; Vonage modem to Airport extreme, and, to a router for our home which is wired. What I've tried:
Comcast to Vonage to TC / router--the computers could not see TC or only saw it temporarily.
Comcast to TC to Vonage / router--No wireless, no internet, and lost Vonage phone service. Plus, I could not get the TC light to stop flashing amber.
I have enjoyed immensely the simplicity of Apple when setting up the wireless network. But I am stumped. What am I overlooking?

Are you referring to Time Capsule as assuming the role of the main router, which is currently a Linksys Etherfast DSL/Cable Router Model BEFSR41? So this router is no longer required?
Here's what I think you are proposing:
1. Comcast modem to WAN port on Time Capsule (replaces Linksys Etherfast)
2. Connect Vonage to LAN port on Time Capsule
3. Connect the second router (10/100 8-Port Workgroup Switch Model EZXS88W) to LAN Port on Time Capsule
4. Put the second router in bridge mode
The Airport Express would be removed in favor of Time Capsule so not sure what wireless preference is being referred to for the second routeer. -

Hi a have 2 imacs an old flatpanel running tiger, my new one has intel fp imac with leopard
and airport , i also have a pc with windows xp all computer can excess the internet , my router is a linskys , the cable modem is attached to the old imac , new mac has airport , also has parallels with xp,the pc has wirless adapter also linskys, all have shared folders , the airport will not find all of the computers. Here is more on the issue.
From my home, I am not able to do file transfers from behind my firewall. But if I go outside my firewall, I can do the transfers just fine. I opened up ports 3283, 5900 & 22 on both UDP and TCP protocols. That didnt work either..
but at least I now know that it's the firewall that is causing the issue. Would any one have any idea where to look or what might bbe going on? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!
