You can synchronize your computer clock with an Internet time server. This means that the clock on your computer is updated to match the clock on the time server, which can help ensure that the clock on your computer is accurate. Your clock is typically updated
once a week and needs to be connected to the Internet for the synchronization to occur.

If your computer is on a domain, you can't synchronize your clock with an Internet time server.
Open Date and Time by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Clock, Language, and Region, and then clicking Date and Time.
Click the Internet Time tab, and then click Change settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Comparing incoming file name having timestamp with system time.

The scenario is File to FIle.
i have to read the incoming file name which will be having time stamp.
compare the time stamp with the system time .
if the difference in time is within specified time then send the file to target location,else send a mail that file is not placed in target location.
please enlight me on how this scenario can be done.

Setting substitution variable to connection string (not ODBC name)

Hi,
I havce a question regarding the use of a sub variable in SQL data loads as the data source. I find this works great when the variable is set to an existing ODBC. What I would really like to do is skip the ODBC creation step and have the substitution variable be the actual connection string, such as "Driver={SQL Native Client};Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase; Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword;"
Can anyone confirm or deny whether this functionality exists? As usual, the documentation is vague on the subject and doesn't exclude the possibility, but doesn't include it, either.

My first thought is that no, you can't do that. Even if you could, I'm not sure if you'd want to do that. The easiest way to find out is simply to try. But more than likely I think you should just have "hard-coded" values for the source/target server. If you are trying to stay with the same load rule for dev/test/prod servers, you might just be better off coming up with a naming scheme that let's you keep them all separate.

you can do it through a maxl script.
the maxl script should flow as below...
load data using import maxl command
based on the return code you can set the value of subst variable using the following script.
if it is a variable on db:
alter application <appname>.<dbbname> set variable <subst variable name> <variable value>;
if it is a server level subst variable
alter system set variable <subst variable name> <variable value>;

Getting a substitution variable value with VB API

Set substitution variable from Sql table

Hi guys,
I am new to sql/unix so I hope you can guide me in the right direction.
whats the easiest way to update an essbase subvar from a sql table?
would I have to write a sqlplus statement to output the variable to file,
read the file in a maxl command and set the variable and call these commands using .sh script and esscmd?
is there a more efficient way to set the variable? e.g only use sqlplus and esscmd?

Try something like this

Setting clock in utc with NITS time

How can I keep my iMac in syc with NIST. I cannot find any programs for this. There are alot of utc time display programs but as far as I can tell they only use computers clock. I need something that will change computer clock with NIST

Hi Kevin, not on 10.7 at the moment, but open System Preferences>Date & Time, isn't there a place to check automatically set Date & Time, & a field to enter a NIST Time Server?

Using calc script function when setting substitution variable value

I would like to be able to execute the below, but this wont work since it is a combination of MaxL and calc script syntax:
alter database 'App'.'DB' set variable 'Var1' @PARENT("Day 1");
The following does not work either for the same reason:
set A = @PARENT("Day 1");
echo $A;
alter database 'App'.'DB' set variable 'Var1' $A;
Is there a correct way to do the above, and is it even possible? Or will the variable literally have to contain the value "@PARENT("Day 1")" to be later parsed in a calc script?

Hi James. I was hoping that 'query database' with the 'member info' option was going to include the parent in the result set, but it's just a bunch of storage / consolidation properties so no luck there.
The only idea i could come up with (and this is getting pretty clunky) would be to use MaxL to execute a report script (or MDX query, but the output would be different and probably harder to parse):

Setting up Air play with new time capsule and newer airport express?

I just recently purchased a new time capsule, and I'd like to use my current generation airport express to stream music from my apple devices. I just was wondering what I had to do in airport utility to set this up? I was also wondering how to transition the network over from the old express to the new time capsule as far software settings go. I really appreciate the help and assistance. Thanks folks. I'm really looking forward to setting up the network for our new iMac.

Your setup is very easy..
This is how I would do it.
Remove the express from the network.. ie just unplug it but do not change anything in it. Keep the configuration as is until the TC is working.
Power off the cable modem.. this is requirement.. at least 20min is usually needed, dependining on your ISP.
Go into the airport utility and setup the TC as router for your network .. it is a simple setup.. but I would do as stated.. all short names, no spaces pure alphanumeric rather than accept Apple's names. That is for TC and wireless.
After 20min power up the cable modem. Once it is running and you have internet access. you can proceed to setup the express to do the airplay. If the internet still doesn't work, power off the cable modem overnight..
Do not lose that express setup so if you absolutely have to, you can at any time substitute it back and have internet again.
So everything is working properly TC in place as full router.. now hard reset the express.. and simply use the airport utility to put it in extend wireless .. or plug in by ethernet if you are going to hard wire it.
The extend wireless setup is all done straight from the existing setup.
Now you can plug your express audio port into your speaker.. and setup the airplay via the itunes.
I will get Bob to give you his way of doing it.. There is no one RIGHT way .. but he can give you more info if you want a particular method.

Default time zone not matching with system time zone

We have a windows 2008 server machine, whose time zone is (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada).
I have run a java class file on this mechine, but its not taking the default time zone as UTC-05:00,instead of that its taking GMT, and shows the time in GMT itself.
We are using jre1.5.0_09
import java.util.Date;
import java.util.TimeZone;
public class testing {
     public static void main(String a[]) {
          System.out.println(" current Date - "+new Date());
          System.out.println(" current TimeZone - "+TimeZone.getDefault().getID());
}giving results..
current Date - Wed Aug 04 14:17:01 GMT 2010

but actual time on the machine showing is Wed Aug 04 10:17:01 on UTC-05:00

Setting Essbase substitution variable thru ODI

alter system set variable 'ActMon' 'Feb';
- Created a procedure in ODI to call the maxl
the procedure is working...but we still have to manually edit the maxl script every month to change the current month value.
How about this?
We have a oracle table in ODI schema which has month column populated. can we use that month column data and some how set the Essbase Sub var?

I am trying to set the Substitution variable through a data form on which the Business rule is attached.
The admin guide for Planning states that "You can set substitution variables on the Essbase server,
application, or database level. The same substitution variable can exist on multiple levels;
Planning uses the first one it finds as it searches in this order: 1) database 2) application 3)
server." So I believe that it should be possible.

SQL data Load rule with Substitution variable

Hi,
I have a data load rule with MySQL as a data source. I have requirement where user does not want to see Current day data in cube and they keep changing days not to be loaded.
I have setup the substitution variable SUBv as '2009-11-04' and have scripts to update it daily.
Data Load rule in where condition contains
brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> &SUBv
Now, above where condition does not work for date <> &SUBv but if I set substitution variable SUBv as "brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> '2009-11-04' " and set load rule where condition with just &SUBv it would just work fine. I dont know whats wrong in 1st place.
I dont want to create multiple where condition in substitution variable (Don't we have limit on them?). I have 40+ load rules which might use this SUBv substitution variable if I find a way to define it so that it work as "brand = 'HP' and region = 'east' and date <> &SUBv"
