Not able to connect Oracle DBXE from sql*plus client
Hi,
I have installed Oracle 10gXE from oracle site. i have updated the tnsnames.ora also
but when i try to connect the db through sql*plus client, i am redirected to .net debugger.
Pls help me in this,
Thanks in advance.
-- RajaHello,
Can you clarify what you are trying to connect from? If it's B1 ( one ) then post to the [B1 forum|http://forums.sdn.sap.com/index.jspa#44].
Otherwise need more info on the product you are using?
Typically the Oracle Path must be in the PATH statement as well it requires the correct platform ( 32 or 64 ) bit client installed.
Most BOE/CR products are 32 bit so you need to install the 32 bit client.

Is there some time setting in sql*plus or Oracle9i
Hi guys,
I just run the following simple query in sql*plus in oracle 9i:
select * from pers ;
The table is around 190k rows. But it always stops running after 28-30minutes. No error message displayed and the whole sql*plus just hang on there.... The only thing I can do is to restart the sql*plus.
I got this problem when I run some other query, so I use this simple query just to test if it will stop after running 30m. Now it does. I'm thinking there is some setting in sql*plus or ORACL9i I need to do. Could someone help me to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,Hi,
you can check out this information in the user_resource_limits table.

How to set default SQL Native Client in SAP BO?
Hello,
is there any possibility to set default SQL Native Client? We must have two SQL NC installed unfortunately, 2005 and 2008. Issue is, that SAP BO chooses the 2008 by default and user must manually switch to 2005 to see pre-defined instances. Is there any way how to select SQL NC 2005 as default? Many thanks
Best regards,
JoeHi,
Try this procedures.
1. Dont open your SBO program.
2. Goto C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\Conf\ folder
3. Delete file b1-local-machine.xml
4. Log to SBO program.
5. Apply all necessary authentication then select SQL_2008 then log.
6. After logging exit to SBO program.
7. Re-log again if SQL_2008 is already in default.
Thanks.

How to Install 10gr2 SQL Plus client
Hi All,
We have oracle database 10gr2 located at our server.
But in our local machine SQL*PLUS Client, I am getting the below message
SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Tue Mar 1 11:38:33 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options
That means I have Oracle 9i client installed on my local machine and connecting to 10gr2 database.
So to have 10g client, do I need to install the Oracle 10gr2 database in my local machine. (Download 600+Mb of Software from OTN and install) Or is there any where that I can have 10g client on my Local machine.
Appreciate your response,
Regards,

Madhu K.You can continue to use the 9i client, or you can install the 10g client. You do not have to install the 10g database, but I believe you have to download the database media, as the client is not packaged separately. Just choose "client" as an install option. -
Detecting clientside NLS_LANG setting in SQL*Plus script
Our company has developed an application that uses an Oracle database as it backend. Companies can buy our application and run it against their own Oracle installation.
A new version of our application often requires an update to the Oracle database schema.
Together with new application files we send our customers an update.sql script they must run against their database using SQL*Plus.
This update script may contain international characters like é for example:
UPDATE SHOPS SET DESCRIPTION = 'Café'
WHERE SHOP_ID=1We save the SQL-script file in windows-1252 encoding so the character é is encoded as 0xE9 in the script file.
When the DBA running the upgrade script has set NLS_LANG=.WE8MSWIN1252 this works perfectly.
When the DBA has set his NLS_LANG=US7ASCII the é gets replaced by an upside-down question mark. Other NLS_LANG settings can also be troublesome.
To prevent this we give very clear installation instructions. However, nobody reads them. This leads to two questions:
A) Is there a way to prevent this problem so I do not depend on the NLS_LANG setting by the DBA running the upgrade script?
B) Otherwise: is there a way to test for the NLS_LANG setting inside the script and abort if it is not WE8MSWIN1252?
Info:
Database is 10.2.0.3/10.2.0.4 and sometimes 10.2.0.5, always database character set WE8MSWIN1252.
Client software: I do not know what each DBA uses but it will be mostly 10g client software
Client OS: Some DBA's will be running the script from Windows, others from some Unix variety. I cannot control that.I agree with Sergiusz. You're much better off if you can remove character set dependencies from your scripts by using commands like this.
UPDATE SHOPS SET DESCRIPTION = unistr( 'Caf\00E9' )
WHERE SHOP_ID=1 ;If that's not possible however you can try this approach to determine the session's character set.

Can network setting cause sql*plus logon failure?
During install of verizon service the techs had to alter some network setting to allow the cable connection to work. Afterwards I was unable to connect to oracle database using pl*sql, getting instead an ORA 12514 error.
Is it possible the altered network settings caused this problem? I am running oracle 10g on XP windows.1. you're not using pl*sql to connect. you're using SQLPLUS to connect.
2. ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor
so, verizon changed something, perhaps the "windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" file, so that now your TNSNAMES.ORA has the wrong info. check tnsnames.ora, and see if it's using machine name, IP, or "localhost", then give the new, correct info. -
SQL*PLUS 32 Bit Client needed for Windows 64 Bit
Hi,
I have got a 64 Bit Windows OS and an Oracle 11.
With 32 Bit Applications ( Crystal Reports) I can not run SQL NET Thick, SQL NET Thin and JDBC.
Oracle 32 Bit Installation is Missing.
Oracles "Instant Client Downloads for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" will not do it.

What else to use ?
Thank You

I did not find an "old", "classic" SQL*PLUs client. What does that mean exactly, classic client?
Did you unzip the ic sqlplus .zip (the one listed) in the same dir as ic basic?
After dezipping waht than ?
No installer, nothing ...That's the beauty of Instant Client, just unzip or move a few files, set PATH if needed, and you have client libraries all "installed" and ready.

You can give advice ?Generally, required lib files are (n Windows) oci.dll, oraociicusN.dll or oraocieiN.dll (N= e.g. 11). Then for Sql*plus add orasqlplusicN.dll and the .exe from ic-sqlplus package.

SQL*plus not displaying the result of XMLELEMENT
HI,
I am using SQL*Plus: Release 10.1.0.4.2
Connected to: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0
When I run the following query in SQL*PLUS, I get nothing displayed. However when I run the same query connecting to the same database using SQL Developer then I get the result
SQL> select XMLELEMENT("form_id",form_id)
2 FROM collections;
XMLELEMENT("FORM_ID",FORM_ID)
In SQL developer
<form_id>101</form_id>
I set long and longchuncksize to 32K , and I change linesize, pages, but nothing helped
Is there any configuration that I have to do, so that SQL*plus display the result of “ select XMLELEMENT("form_id",form_id) query.
Appreciate you help, thanksFrom a fresh start ;) :

Heading1:Help Me Connect to Database
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ape.htm#CHDIEIHJ
i read this page and created a environment variable sql with variable path to the folder containing extracted files...
now help me connect to a database.
i don't want to download more files ( also all the files are so large that the take whole day to download........ oracle 11g was 2GB)You need to understand... The SQL*Plus client is just a tool to allow you to connect to a database, because it is the database that will take your SQL commands and execute them... the client is just the tool for sending the commands to the database.
So, just downloading and installing the client software itself, is fine... if you've got a database elsewhere (on a server somewhere) to connect to. If, however, you want to practice database programming at home on your own computer, you will have to download and install some version of the database, whether you do that directly as the database software itself (which will install the client software as well as part of it), or as the Virtual Machine version (which is sort of the same thing, but the database comes almost ready for you to use "out of the box").
I'm afriad you are going to have to download more files. -
I have a large script that works fine on my oracle server. When I bring it to my clients, it gets truncated after around 60 lines. I know how to increase the output buffer (EXEC DBS_Output.Enable(10000) for 10000 lines) but I can't seem to find the equivalent for the input buffer. Please help.
Are you using SQL Plus client, then you need to change the buffer size on the menu of the SQL Plus window.

SQL*Plus column command not working with Script Runner
SQL Developer EA 2.1
When running a script (interactive or from a file), the COLUMN commands are ignored. The documentation (User's Guide 1.7.1) says that COLUMN is supported, but the headings set in the column command are not changed. As a test, the SET FEEDBACK OFF command is processed.
SET FEEDBACK OFF
COLUMN ename HEADING 'Name'
COLUMN job HEADING 'Job'
COLUMN deptno HEADING 'Dept'
SELECT ename as ename, JOB, DEPTNO
FROM EMPLOYEES;
The documentation for Script Runner (User's Guide 1.7.2) says that a much more limited set of SQL*Plus commands are available.
Is this intended behavior? If so, the documentation should reflect that the COLUMN command is ignored.Hi,
Doc bug logged:
Bug 9015160 - OTNEA1: USER GUIDE COLUMN SUPPORTS 'COLUMN...NEWVAL' ONLY
The user guide says column is supported, but
Column supports the following new_value use only
i.e. moving a value from a selected column to a substitution variable:
column aval new_v a
select 1 aval from dual;
select '&a' || ' is 1' from dual;
