SetAttribute(String, Object) error

Hello Guys,
I have in my jsp page something like this.
request.setAttribute("variable",0). When i load the page, it comes with an error saying that
Generated servlet error:
The method setAttribute(String, Object) in the type HttpSession is not applicable for the arguments (String, int)
I tried various things like
Integer v = new Integer(0);
Integer.valueOf(0).
But it comes up with the same error.
Any ideas?
Help would be appreciated.
Kay

The method setAttribute(String, Object) in the type HttpSession is not applicable for the arguments (String, int)This says it all. setAttribute() doesn't work for primitives, it only takes Objects. So you have to use an Integer and not an int. A String will work fine too.

    HttpServletRequest request.setAttribute(String parm1, Object parm2) vs. HttpSession session.setAttribute(String parm1, Object parm2)
    hi
    can anybody please explain to me what does HttpServletRequest request.setAttribute() do? and for what purpose is it used for?
    i already know that HttpSession session.setAttribute(String parm1, Object parm2) is used to bind a session to a variable, so that it can be accessed throughout the servlet application.
    thanx

    ps: please correct me if i'm wrong

    shankha,
    What does the API doco say?
    I think it just sets a request scoped attribute... ie a request parameter.

    I have uninstalled the plugin and I have try to repair/reinstall my copy of Indesigh CS3 version 5.0.4 but it still is not possible to use Indesign.
    Has anyone encoutered this problem? Can you tell me where to find this file Pluginconfig.txt.

    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 5.0\Caches\InDesign Recovery
    This is a hidden folder, so you'll need to set Explorer to show hidden files if you haven't already. Start by just renaming the folder to _InDesign Recovery and it should rebuild on the next launch if this is going to work. If it doesn't work, you won't have lost anything.
    Might work even better if you were to try a system restore, however. Do you have a restore point from before the plugin was installed?

  • Insane object error(The string control not getting any values)

    In LabVIEW 8.2 i am using the string control to get the text from the users, and initially there was no problem at the time of development it works perfectly, after building the installer,
    these string controls are not getting any string input, it seems like a disabled one, but actually it was not disabled, when we try to click over that through the mouse,
     that text inputting cursor was not blinking over there,I screen looks as below, some error messages are thrown from the LabVIEW like insane object error, even
    now there was the same problem in the source code itself, what to do rectify this. Only this part generates error all other remaining screen panels are working perfectly.

    This kind of problem can be a pain to locate. This often occurs when the wiring to or from a control or indicator is bery long, convoluted and hidden inside of structures or behind things. So first, you need to identify which VI specifically is generating the error by individually saving VIs and subVIs until you find the one that is generating the error. Now try and remember the last time that VI saved without a problem and what edits you made since then. Places where I have had this occur was when I drag-copied a control and a couple VIs into a small structure. Sometimes the wires would seem to conect up properly, but when I tried to save the VI I got this error. The solution was to disconnect all the wires associated with the VIs I had copied and rewire them.
    Also, can you post the VI that is doing it? Shouldn't need the subVIs for this...

  • Error accesing/using a String object.......

    Hi again folks!
    Well now I have other problem, I don?t know what's happening, but I have simple C++ program as shared object which retrieves information from a Database, with the query results it makes a single string with all the data retrieved.
    This C++ program is called by a Java program using JNI, but when my Java program receives the string and tries to parse it with the StringTokenizer object I get an error like this:

    Any comment will be welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

    I hope this could help to clarify the scenario
    In a previous query I get the number of rows returned by the next query
    this number is stored at SQL_NUM_SEGS.arr variable. When I have the number of rows I reserve memory for the char array that I'm going to return with all the information.
    AC01_TRAMA=(char *)malloc(atol(SQL_NUM_SEGS.arr) * INT02_TAM_SEG);
    /*embedded PL/SQL code*/
    EXEC SQL DECLARE CUR_EMISORA CURSOR FOR
    SELECT rtrim(to_char(NUM_EMISORA)) || '|' || rtrim(SERIE) || '|' || EMISORA || '|' || STATUS FROM NUCL_EMISORA WHERE STATUS NOT LIKE 'BAJA';
    EXEC SQL OPEN CUR_EMISORA;
    The next lines of code generate a string like this:
    "UTIL0000|366|239|93-1|FINASA |VIGE|243|3-90|BONSER |VIGE|248|2-94|BONSER |VIGE|287|970403|GOBFED |VIGE|362|93-4|BANOBRA |VIGE|404|2-90|BONSER |VIGE|407|2-95|FINASA |VIGE|633|95|BANMEXI |VIGE|641|2-94|PROMEX |VIGE|645|1-95|FINASA |VIGE|647|1-96|FINASA |VIGE|660|92|BANORTE |VIGE|677|93-3|BANOBRA |VIGE|678|1-90|BIATLAN |VIGE|736|2-95|BONSER |VIGE|786|1-94|BNCI |VIGE|1007|021024|GOBFED |VIGE|1008|021121|GOBFED |VIGE|"
    this string is assigned to AC01_TRAMA(char pointer)and then I return this string in the next way:
    return ( (env)->NewStringUTF(AC01_TRAMA) );
    My java program is this:
    public class Monitor
    public native String consultaGeneral();
    static
    System.load("/afs/invermexico.com.mx/usr2/salponce/gustavo/jni/src_db/Monitor.so");
    public String getTrama()
         String strTrama=consultaGeneral();
    return strTrama;
    public static void main(String []args)
    String strEmisora, strNumEmisora, strStatus,strSerie;
    Monitor m=new Monitor();
    System.out.println(m.getTrama());
    /*java.util.StringTokenizer STk = new java.util.StringTokenizer(m.getTrama(),"|");
    while(objSTk.hasMoreTokens())
    strEmisora = objSTk.nextToken();
    strNumEmisora = objSTk.nextToken();
    strStatus = objSTk.nextToken();
    strSerie = objSTk.nextToken();
    System.out.println("\n<------>\n"+ strEmisora+"\n"+strNumEmisora+"\n"+strStatus+"\n"+strSerie);
    }//while
    Well, this java program works fine but if I try to create an String tokenizer with it the program crashes, even if I assign the result into a new String object.
    I'm going to put all the code rigth here

  • How to create a xml file from String object in CS4

    Hi All,
    I want to convert a string object into an XML file using Javascript in Indesign CS4.
    I have done the following script. But it does not convert the namespaces for the xml elements with no value in it.
    var xml = new XML(string);
    The value present in string is "<level_1 xsi:nil="true" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"/>"
    When it is converted to xml, the value becomes "<level_1 xsi:nil="true"/>"
    On processing the above xml object, am getting an error like this "Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unbound namespace prefix."
    Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Anitha

    Can you post more of the script?
    Are you getting the XML file from disk, or a string?

    how to do this.
    As Rene suggested, you can do this using the Pattern class:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/regex/Pattern.html
    You can do it also by looping through your String and check with String's charAt(index) method (which returns a char) to see if every char from the String is >= A AND <= z.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/String.html
    Good luck.

  • To add a string object to a list

    hi all,
    i am trying a string object usind add method
    like
    String s="xyz";
    list.add(s)
    when i try to compile the code it says that the code contains an unchecked exception..please tell me how to handle this exception.....like if its not the correct way please do post some code...........
    thanks

    To handle exceptions you need try/catch statements around the code which is potentially bad.
    The code you have shown here should not throw an exception - it must be something else you have - maybe reading from file, parsing an Integer to a string etc etc
    Read the section on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/exceptions/index.html] exceptions in the tutorial
    try{
    // do some code
      String s = "xyz";
      list.add(s);
    catch(Exception e){
      System.out.println("An error occurred " + e.getMessage());
      e.printStackTrace();
    }Cheers,

  • Unable to read big files into string object & java.lang.OutOfMemory Problem

    Hi All,
    I have an application that uses applet and servlet communication. On the client side I am reading an large xml file of 12MB size (using JFileChooser) and converting the file to an string object using below code. But I am getting java.lang.OutOfMemory on the client side . But the same below code works fine for small xml files which are less than 4MB sizes:
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream(file),"UTF8"), 1024*12);
    String s, s2 = new String();
    while((s = in.readLine())!= null)
    s2 += s + "\n";
    I even tried the below code but still java.lang.OutOfMemory is coming:
    while (true)
    int i = in.read();
    if (i == -1)
    break;
    sb.append(i);
    Please let me know what am I doing wrong here ...

    Hi,
    I could avoid the java.lang.OutOfMemory error using below code. But using below code I could read small files of sizes less than 4MB
    but with large files of 12 MB the below code just simply hangs and I am unable to print the string object namely 's'.
    My purpose is to construct an String or StringBuffer object out the user uploaded xml file at the client side and pass that object to server for processing. So how can I construct such object avoid memory problem and increasing the performance of such operations.
    BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(file));
    byte[] b = new byte[in.available()];
    in.read(b, 0, b.length);
    String s = new String(b, 0, b.length);
    in.close();
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sony.

    So you changed the pwd for installation user of SAP BPC.
    After you performed this change did you open Server Manager and go to Reset Credential link?
    There you have to input the new pwd for installation user.
    After that try to login again using BPC client.

  • Converting Base64 encoded String to String object

    Hi,
    Description:
    I have a Base64 encoded string and I am using this API for it,
    [ http://ws.apache.org/axis/java/apiDocs/org/apache/axis/encoding/Base64.html]
    I am simply trying to convert it to a String object.
    Problem:
    When I try and write the String, ( which is xml ) as a XMLType to a oracle 9i database I am getting a "Cannot map Unicode to Oracle character." The root problem is because of the conversion of the base64 encoded string to a String object. I noticed that some weird square characters show up at the start of the string after i convert it. It seems like I am not properly converting to a String object. If i change the value of the variable on the fly and delete these little characters at the start, I don't get the uni code error. Just looking for a second thought on this.
    Code: Converting Base64 Encoded String to String object
    public String decodeToString( String base64String )
        byte[] decodedByteArray = Base64.decode( base64String );
        String decodedString = new String( decodedByteArray, "UTF-8");
    }Any suggestions?

    To answer bigdaddy's question and clairfy a bit more:
    Constraints:
    1. Using a integrated 3rd party software that expects a Base64 encoded String and sends back a encoded base64 String.
    2. Using JSF
    3. Oracle 10g database and storing in a XMLType column.
    Steps in process.
    1. I submit my base64 encoded String to this 3rd party software.
    2. The tool takes the encoded string and renders a output that works correctly. The XML can be modified dynamically using this tool.
    3. I have a button that is binded to my jsf backing bean. When that button is clicked, the 3rd party tool sets a backing bean string value with the Base64 String representing the updated XML.
    4. On the backend in my jsf backing bean, i attempt to decode it to string value to store in the oracle database as a XML type. Upon converting the byte[] array to a String, i get this conversion issue.
    Possibly what is happen is that the tool is sending me a different encoding that is not UTF-8. I thought maybe there was a better way of doing the decoding that i wasn't looking at. I will proceed down that path and look at the possibility that the tool is sending back a different encoding then what it should. I was just looking for input on doing the byte[] decoding.
    Thanks for the input though.

    Iterator it = set.iterator(); You are iterating the 'set' (which has 'list') which has 'strarray',thats why ur able to see the elements of 'strarray'.
    and shows the UnsupportedOperationException exception -->
    Infact it doesnt throw any Exception, check it again
    but one string object( i want to add it) which is fruit .... this object is not adding ,,, -->
    Addthe following code and check
         try {
         set.add(newadd);
         } catch (UnsupportedOperationException e) {
         System.out.println("ERROR IS : " + e.getMessage());
         Iterator it1 = set.iterator();
         while (it1.hasNext()) {
         System.out.println(it1.next());
         } But mind u, ur adding the new String 'newadd' to the same set.

  • String Object info not getting displayed in outgoing referrences .

    Hi,
    Iam new to MAT and is in learning stage.
    Iam having a sample java program , whch has got String objects printed contunously . In order to take the heap dump while running itself , I am running this application for 2 minutes and in between Im taking the heap dump , but when analysed my java class , found that there is no entry for String objects under outgoing referrences of the java class from histogram.
    Please help me to find out why String object details are not present in outgoiing referrences for the java class.
    My Java Program,
    public class B{
    public static void main(String[] args) {
              //create Calendar instance
             Calendar now = Calendar.getInstance();
             System.out.println("Current time : "+ now.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY)+ ":" + now.get(Calendar.MINUTE)+ ":"+ now.get(Calendar.SECOND));
             int m = now.get(Calendar.MINUTE);
             B b = new B();
             b.print();
    public void print( int m2, Calendar now2){
               while ( (m2+2) >= now2.get(Calendar.MINUTE)){
                       String x = "xxxxxx";
                        System.out.println("String"+x);

    Hi,
    Do you mean this String object?
       String x = "xxxxxx";
    If so, then here the explanation. The String above is declared as a loca variable in the print method. I can't see any field pointing to it (neider an object insance is pointing to it, nor a static reference from the class).
    This local object will be in the heap as long as the method is running, and in the heap dump you will see such objects marked as GC roots. The type of this GC root will be <Java local> .
    Depending on the heap dump format, there may be also stack traces inside. If there are stack traces, you shold be able to see your object as referenced from the corresponding frame (the print method) in the Thread Stacks query.
    I hope this helps.

  • "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error while running ssrs report locally

    Hi Folks,
    I am a bit new to SSRS.
    I am using ssrs 2012 and trying to use a method from a dll file. I am loaded the assembly file in reference of the report.
    Now I am trying to use a static method from the Dll. e.g. applicationName.classname.MethodName()
    But while running the report I am getting "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.
    For a note I am trying execute the report locally.
    Any help would be highly appreciable.

    Sorry for late reply Sinaloe..
    I have added a dll file in my report reference. And in a textbox trying to execute this below.
    =Recall.Common.LocalizationEx.Localization.GetString(Parameters!Culture.Value, "RFID", "BICustomerPortal")
    where Getstring() is a static method in the dll.
    I guess some configuration setting I am missing here.
    1. I have copied these dlls in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies" and "C:\Windows\Assembly".
