Setting case sensitivity for text searches

I am trying to figure out how to set case sensitivity for text searches for Oracle. I am using 8.1.7 and the documentation keeps referring me to the Basic_Lexer object. Does setting the mixed_case parameter to 'No' remove case sensitivity for the index or is there something else I need to do?

Do you recommend another field type that can be used that does not use case sensitivity?
Thank you

  • Case sensitivity for comparisons

It appears that text comparisons on rules are case sensitive?
    In other words the rule:
the cow gives milk is valid if
    the cow's name = "Betsy"
will not be valid if the cow's name is "BETSY"...
Assuming that is correct, how do people handle case sensitivity for text fields in OPA? I don't see a toupper() for text.

It appears we answered our own question when it was pointed out that the example in developer documentation on extensions was for this very problem...

You can change the case sensitivity of the sparsebundle.. but I really doubt the error is real.
    See A8 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
The sparsebundle should have case sensitivity turned on.
I cannot even fathom how it could have changed.
Let me recommend before you start fooling around with the sparsebundle.
    Do a full network start.
Power everything off.. start up modem.. wait 2min.. power up the TC.. wait 2min.. power up any other network gear like switches.. wait..
Now power up the computer and try it.
If the error is the same.. I would do a factory reset of the TC.. give it all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Then reset TM .. see A4 in the same reference as above.. and do a verify of the backups.. A5 above and try the backup again..
    No luck..
Then erase the TC and start over.. it is sometimes necessary as TM does get itself in a knot.

    Open a command prompt.
    To enable case sensitivity, type:
    nfsadmin server [ComputerName] config casesensitivelookups=yes
But, "casesensitivelookups" is removed in Windows 2012 version.
    Help Me~

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delayed response.
According to the following article, we still can use
nfsadmin to configure case sensitivity for Server for NFS in Windows Server 2012.
    Nfsadmin
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771599.aspx
    Note:We
need to disable Windows kernel case-insensitivity in order for Server for NFS to support case-sensitive file names. We can disable Windows kernel case-insensitivity by clearing the following registry key to 0:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\kernel
    DWORD “obcaseinsensitive”
    Hope it helps.

  • Disable Case Sensitivity for Node Names

    Hello everyone,
is it possible to dissable the case sensitivity for node names?
I have an import of ca. 40k records. The source system differs between small and capital letters.
DRM seems to not differ between small and capital letters.
Is there a workaround without usind different technical names for nodes.
    Kind regards,
    Pascal

There is nothing to do with in DRM, can you check with your DBA on what's the NLS_SORT and NLS_COMP settings are,ask them to check the below values.
    NLS_COMP=LINGUISTIC and NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI

  • Set default width for text box in Adobe Acrobat X

    Hello!
I am using the textbox tool to add comments to a document. (not the Typewriter, but the Textbox, since that has more flexibility for formatting the text).
I know how to set the default proprties for text size, color, background color, etc.
Cannot figure out however to to set the default width. Every time I try to add a new textbox, it defaults to about 1 or 2 inches wide, so the text wraps around and around, and then I have to resize the box when I am done.
Is there a way to change the default width?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Amonra
I drew a box I like, and select, and then, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V.
And move the pasted box where to need, and resize the length. At least I get same width boxes.
I don't know how to default it.
I hope it may help you.

As mentioned, this isn't possible. A (bad) workaround is to write a signature in the notes and copy it to your clipboard by double tapping and using the handles to make a selection and then hitting copy. Then whenever you send a text double tap and hit paste.

  • Change volume to non case sensitive for Time Machine?

I need to back up a drive I use to archive material.  Tried to add it to list of drives time machine backs up.  Found out the external drive was set up as case sensitive (must have been a default out of the box, never made this choice).  Is there any way to tell an external drive "don't be case sensitive" so that I will be able to back it up with Time Machine?  (That is, make the case sensitive change to the drive without erasing the drive!)  Simpler way to ask question, how can I back up an exernal drive using Time Machine if that external drive was set up as case sensitive?  Thanks in advance

    Glenn Carter wrote:
Unfortunately, an Erase and Install is probably the only way you are going to fix this. As you have discovered, it appears that "Restore System From Backup..." reformats the destination drive to match the state in which the backups took place.
The TM backup may not have the ability to rename dupes that might occur if some files have identical names save their case.
Even a reformat and reinstall may not work unless any pseudo-identical files are first renamed.

  • Case Sensitivity for 8i 8.1.7

    Hello everyone,
I have noticed after my wonderful install of 8i (8.1.7 EE) all of my tables, fields, and so on are upper case names. I know I can use the " to create/specify an object by its' case (say lower case instead of upper). When I run queries through an ODBC driver. My data is returned all in upper case (because all of my objects are upper?). Is there an option during or post installation that I can throw for case insensitive on all of my objects? When I create a new table using the UI tools and wizards. I want the default to be lower case not upper case. Even when I use the MS SQL 2k export wizard to oracle. All of my objects are upper case. I know during a MS SQL install you can select you case sensitivity option. I would like to know how to do this in oracle, thanks.
    Jason Jennings
    [email protected]

There is no case-sensitive option in Oracle that I know of. Unless you specify thing in double-quotes when you creaet it (eg. create table 'MyTable') everything in Oracle is stored in upper-case as far as the data-dictionary is concerned.

  • Building index from multiple tables for text search

    Hallo,
I had a look at how to build a index table to optimize search with Oracle text.
At the moment we are using a JOIN of tables to search for a text in several fields located in different tables.
    My question is:
Is it possible to create that index table from several tables?
If yes, can you point me out to any links or give me an example.
So far, all the examples I read were about 1 table only.
    Thanks
    Elisabeth

The following is an extension of the original example. It uses ctx_ddl.sync_index to synchronize the index and shows the changes in one of the index tables and shows that the query finds the newly synchronized data. It also shows how this only happens when the column that the index is on is updated. In this example, the index is on the dummy column. The first update does not update the dummy column, so the ctx_ddl.sync_index command does not synchronize the new data. The second update does update the related dummy column, so ctx_ddl.sync_index does synchronize the new data. Lastly, I showed what happens to one of the index tables when you rebuild the index. Notice the reduction in rows in the index table after the rebuild process. You could also rebuild online or drop and recreate the index.
