Setting clip length on multiple stills

I am creating stop motion animations using still images. How can I set the clip length of multiple stills with one action? At the moment I am doing each one individually.

Select the images. Control-D. Type in a duration.

How do you set the duration for multiple stills in iMovie 2013?
Before upgrading to the latest version of iMovie last month, I was able to set the duation of all of the stills included in an iMovie project at one time by clicking the apply to all still box in the adjustment pop up. That option is no longer apparent. If it is available I cannot find it, and I have tried several different ways to accomplish it. I have tried the iMovie help section and can find nothing to help.
Apple, do I really have to adjust close to 500 pictures to a 5 second duration individually???
    REALLY??!!

...why wouldnt people want that level of accuracy when animating, especially when working to music at a specific duration?
Because often people are animating to words or beats in the music.  Music is rarely performed with a computer-precise beat and tempo.  Musicians aren't robots: they swing the beat sometimes.  They use rubato.  They change tempo.  They change time signatures.  As a result, you have to FIND those words and beats.  It's not a situation where you can say, "There!  I've found the duration of one beat!  Now it's easy to find the rest of them!"
If you try it, you will be very disappointed.
Try finding the precise end of a piece of music that fades or ends on a big chord with a ring-out.  You'll see that it's trial-and-error: what's the point where it becomes inaudible?  It depends on how high your speakers are turned up.  You might have them way up, you set an end point for the layer, and then you do a RAM Preview at a more reasonable volume.  You might say, "Hey!  The music ends before the layer ends!"...  but you KNOW you set the layer's out point when the audio file goes silent.
AE has layer markers that can be used on an audio layer to mark beats, words, etc. They come in very handy.
I guess it comes down to this: because AE can do so much different stuff, there are very few automated procedures.  Oh, Adobe tries with effects that convert audio levels to keyframes, but they're not 100% reliable... especially on something like a capella choral works.  For true accuracy, you need  find the timings yourself.
If you want something simpler, try a different application. But be prepared for lower level of accuracy.

  • Can't set clip length to scene break

iMovie 08 default seems to be set to 5 second clips, I'm used to, and prefer, the old way of a new clip when the recording has been paused. iMovie help tells me I can do this in preferences>import>select start new clip at scene break. But when I select preferences I get a completely different pane with display timecodes, show date ranges....,use large font......,plus lots more, but no where is option to set clips to scene breaks.
(just noticed our mac models need updating, following alocal storm and lightning strike the induced emf in the wired network damaged every piece of kit on our home network, so we're on silver iMacs running tiger now courtesy of the insurance company, oh, and we've gone wireless)

when the video is taken into iMovie from the camera it appears in the space next to the event library list in 5 second chunks, i've found the slider that that changes the 5seconds to something else. (these are the thumbnails?)I used help to see if I could set preferences to show clips as single continuous (no pause) recordings, (one thumbnail) help says yes can do this by selecting "start a new clip at each scene break" in iMovie preferences>import. When I go to iMovie preferences the pane content is nothing like help says it is, the"start new clip etc" option is not shown. My question was really why cant I find the options that help says are available.
I think your answer tells me whats going on. I guess there is an iMovie update that help hasn't caught up with, I can see that by setting the slider to its extreme right setting I get a single thumbnail for a continuous record run on the video, and given a blank space between two thumbnails where the camera paused or was turned off gives me the information I'm looking for. I guess if my first import had included pauses I'd have seen the gaps and figured it out and not confused myself by going into help.

  • Adjust length of multiple clips?

Is it possible to easily adjust the length of multiple clips _simultaneously_?
I actually want to adjust the length of multiple stills and I know that a way to do it ís to adjust the default still length, and then *reimport* (this is crazy!) the pictures and then automate them to a sequence... but that is just so awkward.
    Grateful for any help!

Ah, it sure is a candidate!
In the audio sequencer Cakewalk Sonar there's a feature to adjust the length of selected (single/multiple) clips. You can select a percentage and then select if it's to affect the duration of clips or the start times, or both. (Both is great if you want to shorten them and still have them stay adjacent.)
So, a feature request it is! :)
Meanwhile, I'd suggest Adobe to take a good look at popular audio sequencers, there's _a lot_ of great & convenient features to mimic...

  • How to set duration on multiple still images?

Is there a way to select a range of stills within a project and set the duration of them all to the same value. One can copy the image adjustments from a still and then paste that to multiple stills, but there isn't a Paste Adjustments menu item for duration.
The only way I've found to accomplish this is rather clumbsy. Copy the selected images to a new project and then with the project properties set all the durations to the same value there, and copy them back into the original project. This also limits the choices for the duration to whole seconds between 1 and 10, so if you want 1:15 we're out of luck apparently.
    Is there a better way?
Also the min. duration seems to be 0:08. Setting the duration to anything less results in the duration being set to 0:08.

AFAIK there is no easy way to set a range of clips to the same duration. The only method within iMovie I know of was the one outlined above, copy to a new project, set all in that project and copy back to original project. That works but is slow and a clumsy way to do it.
What's missing is a paste duration command and/or a setting in the dialog to set duration for the selected photos (plural since the range has yellow outlines around the thumbnails, says to me they are the selected photos).
Also the values as x:ff are not seconds. It's seconds and frames. So ff can only range between 0 and 29, thus 8.97 isn't a valid value and when I used it to set a duration the duration ended up being 11:07. I understand the 11 (90 additional frames, thus 3 seconds more) with 7 additional frames.
Apparently you can not set a duration of just a single frame in iMovie - no subliminal messages allowed I guess. (There were no transitions between the images.)

  • Change duration of multiple still images in one operation

    Hello Folks.
I am trying to change the duration of each image in a sequence of still images.
    Program: Adobe Premiere Elements 7
    Mode: Standard Definition 4/3 ratio
File types in use: MOD, AVI, PNG
Problem: The product manual states: "To apply the new default length to all still images in your project, delete them from Project view and reimport them into your project."
Question: Is there a way to select a group of still images and then apply a new duration value to all of them in one operation?  An Adobe salesperson told me that this is possble before I purchased the program, but I cannot figure out how this is done. I switched to Adobe from another product in order to get this feature. Now that I need it, I cannot figure a way to get it to work. Time Stretch is not available when I select multiple images.
    Thank you,
    Brian

    Brian,
Unfortunately not. PrPro CS4.2 has just added a way to change the Duration of previously Imported stills, but so far PrE does not allow for this, unless it is new to PrE 8, but I have not read of this.
As noted, the method is to set the Edit>Preferences>General>Default Stills, and choose the Duration in Frames. Then Import the stills. If they are in the Project, that setting has already been applied, so one must delete them from the Project Panel and re-Import them with the new Duration.
Now, one can obviously change the Duration on a one-by-one basis in the Timeline, but that can be tedious, if there are many stills. If I were doing this, I would make sure to have the Info Panel open and nearby, Window>Info.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if PrE 8 HAS added the post-Import Duration change, I hope someone steps up with that info.

  • Clip Length

I am trying to make an animated movie. How can I make all my clip lengths, several hundred, the same length in one go?   eg 0.1 of a second.

    oldscotsbloke
From your prior posts, you appear to be working with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit.
Are these clips - videos or stills? For now I will assume stills.
For now I will assume that you are set up for NTSC (30 frames per second) and not PAL (25 frames per second).
If you want all clips with duration of 0.1 second
    a. import, take to Expert workspace Timeline, select all, right click anywhere in the selection, select Time Stretch, and set the Time Stretch dialog Duration field to 0.1 second which would be 3 frames. So you set the timecode Duration readout in the Time Stretch dialog to 00;00;00;03 (hours;minutes;seconds;frames).
    or
    b. BEFORE importing any, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General and set the Still Image Duration to 3 frames.
Then AFTERWARD all stills imported into the program will have a duration of 3 seconds until you go back to preferences and change the setting.

  • Clip length revert in themes

    Hey all--
I'm an iMovie newbie with a question about themes. I'd like to use some of the theme elements, but whenever I drop in a clip it reverts to the original clip start point and doesn't retain any of my clip length edits. Do I need to prepare my clips differently or am I missing a setting or..? Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to the forum, Myrah.
You got it just about right; you're not missing something. There's a bug in themes that causes a clip placed in a Drop Zone to play from the beginning of the clip's FILE, not the beginning of the clip.
The trick is to export (share) only that clip to a Full Quality movie, then import THAT movie to the project and drop it in the Drop Zone.
To export (share) just one clip, check the "Share selected clips only" checkbox in the Share dialog window.
After the theme has been rendered you can discard the clip.

  • Clip length and Workflow with iPhoto (I need a pdf for a final...)

I'm feeling like a total lunkhead after taking a number of passes at this in the past year.
    Short question:
How do I control clip length in iMovie? Does it work one way when you bring images in and another way when you bring in a slideshow?
    Long question:
I need to get from images organized in iphoto to a pdf or ppt presentation and right now this means I am organizing the photos in iPhoto (a breeze), exporting as wmv and then importing this into iMovie. In iMovie I am just adding a title on the first "slide".
Now I am trying to make sure I have no dissolve effects between slides, make sure I can control the length of each slide and to get this exported into a "manually" advanced pdf.
At some point I would like to get some vector based linework into my presentations as well and for some reason I am bypassing Keynote in the above setup.
Can anyone help me get to a manual pdf so I can get out of the ditch here?
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you've got a somewhat complicated issue.
I'm simply trying to create match a single image file with a 35:00 min podcast so I result in a movie that I can upload to Vimeo (they don't accept audio, only video). I'll watch your post to see if anyone can explain making still images longer (mine caps at 10:00 min).

  • How do I change the length of multiple photo's after I've added them?

How do I change the length of multiple photo's after I've added them?

    Hey,
The best way to do this is to select all the clips by holding down the shift key or command key if the clips you want to change are not all right next to each other and then selecting each clip that you want to change. Then double-click on the clips which will open up the inspector tab and then you can change the duration. If you want to just change all clips to the same duration just double-click on one of the photos and in the inspector tab next to the durationt tab you will see a box that says "add duration to all clips". If you click that, when you change the duration all the photos will change to that duration. That will then change the duration of all the clips at the same time.

  • Photo clip lengths - trouble adjusting!

I have a new project consisting of 80-100 photos, all with a transition in between. Via Project Properties (Apple Key - J), I can set the photo duration but it's only in even increments -- 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 4 seconds, etc. I want to pick 2 1/2 seconds but the slider scale won't let me do that.
If I try to select just a photo properties (Apple Key - R) manually, from 2:00 to 2:50, it auto-adjusts it to 3:20. Having it set to that (or higher) makes the overall project runtime too long. Can I get it to something between 2 and 2 1/2 seconds??

There is an interplay between clip length or photo length and the length of transitions.
For example, if you have two photos each with length 4 seconds and 0 frames, and a transition between them of 30 frames (1 second), then each photo will have a length of 3 seconds and 15 frames. Note: this behavior can be changed in either Preferences or Project Properties: I can't remember which (this applies to clips).
Further, when you set the length of the photo to 2:50, you are really setting it to 2 seconds and 50 frames. In the NTSC system, one second is approximately 30 frames, so 50 frames yields 1 second and 20 frames ( or a total of 3 seconds and 20 frames, as you observed.)
Two and a half seconds in this notation would be 2:15.

  • Create multiple Still Proxies

Having a problem creating multiple still proxies. Basically what I want to do is select all the layers in a PSD imported as a cropped comp and create a half res proxy for each item. the right click "create proxy" option is disabled when I select more than one footage item. When I tried to just make my own still proxy render and output modules I couldn't set the "Timespan" (I thought if I could just set this to 1 frame it'd work). Why is it that when I right click a footage item in the project window and select "create proxy", after effects automatically "knows" I just want a still. For some reason I can't seem to recreate this in my render settings template.
Any help greatly appreciated, at the moment I am HATING having to work in HD, against all logic it's making my hair hurt.
    Ed

Having tried to use this script a few times now, I'm a little befuddled. It doesn't seem (or rather I can't seem to figure out how to) set still proxies automatically to a proxy of the footage item they're supposed to be "proxy-ing". If I set it to create a movie proxy it sets the footage item up as a proxy no problem (by that I mean it automatically sets the footage created to a proxy of the original footage) but I can't seem to get it to automatically link the proxy to the footage item when i want a still proxy, post render (if anyone actually understands this their grasp of english is SERIOUSLY good). I've gone through my output settings and checked and rechecked everything and I just can't see why it's not doing it. Is it an "issue" with the script or is it just me being a script-tard?

    Ronan,
This error message tells us your application password stored in
TPINIT.passwd does not match the one which was input when creating
    TUXCONFIG.
I would like suggest following checking,
    1. If compiling the same workstation client to native client, can you get
the same error message ? If the native client works correctly and this
problem came up after a particular Tuxedo rolling patch, please contact BEA
    support.
    2. If possible, recreate your TUXCONFIG from UBBCONFIG and input the
    application password again.

  • Setting Title Length

I can't seem to find a way to set the length of titles. When I create a title it spans the length of the entire clip. Is there currently a way to set length? Also, is it possible to put titles on pictures added to the timeline?

#1 - The Titles are set to the same duration as the video clip.
#2 - Titles can only be applied to video clips, not photos.
Now back to your first question... I found a tricky work around for controlling my Title duration, by adding the same video clip twice.
_ Add the video clip you want to the Timeline
_ Trim the first clip 5 seconds (or as long as you want your Title to be)
    _ Add your Title
_ Re-add the same clip to the Timeline and Trim off the first 5 seconds of the clip
_ Double Tap the Transition and select "None"
When you playback, you will see one video clip with a 5 seconds Title.

  • Clip lengths

I've been using IMovie to make some time laspe films. When i've been importing the photos (around 300 at a time) i've been trying to set the clip of each photo to be 0:03 of a second. The first photo imported will be 0:03 seconds long and then all the others end up being 9:29 seconds long. So far i've been manually changing each photo from 9:29 to 0:03 seconds - this ***** when you have to do it 299 times. Does anybody know if there is a way if you can select all the photos and change the clip length once you have the pictures in the clip viewer?

Hi Schoonerman - yes, sure you can. Simply select them all (Select the first, then Shift-Click the last in the sequence, or go Command-A if you want the entire movie selected), then go to the Photos pane, make the duration adjustment with the slider, then hit the Update button.
