Setting default save file in JFileChooser

Is there a way to set a default file name for the save dialog created by
JFileChooser.showSaveDialog(null);in order to save the user needing to type something every time?
Thanks.

Exactly
Java keeps ramming classes into the jre that are useful in only a very limited context. At the same time, they can't give us a filedialog that adds the extension onto the returned file... This is something everyone wants, but unfortunately is'nt part of Java. I'm frustrated by it as well (if you can't tell)

  • How do you set default save file type

My Photoshop when I choose save as is choosing TIF as the default file type after opening a raw file. I want to choose PSD as the default. I cannot figure out how to change the setting to raw.

Hi, Unfortunately, Photoshop will chose a format that fits the minimal requirements of a file according to the absence/presence of layers.
You could go to the feedback website, http://feedback.photoshop.com and ask for a preference to set the default file type.

  • How can I set a default save file for scans using the Solution Center?

    Using Windows 7 - 64 bit.   HP Photosmart Premuim C-309a All-In-One Printer.
Because of a Windows crash, I had to install a new drive and reload Windows. I also reloaded other software like the HP Solution Center & Drivers. My problem is that I can't find how to set a default folder for my scans.  This is NOT mentioned in the user manual but it was originally accomplished by HP Tech Support when the printer was new.  Can anyone relate how to set default folders for my scans?
    Thanks.

Here is a document on how to scan through Windows 7.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03476857
Click either solution center or the icon of the printer on your desktop. Here select "Scanner Actions" (or the analogous selection). When the window pops up from the HP software it should provide you with options for file type (.tiff, .pdf, .jpg) as well as resolution and media size. Here on this page there is also an option for you to go to the advanced options. Using this you can alter the default safe folder.
Let me know if that helps you out!

  • How to set default .PDF file extension for Form Downloads

I am trying to find a way of setting the PDF file extension when I download forms.
I author the forms under a Plus subscription and am then downloading the forms under a basic subscription Collaborator account (diffrent person)
If I don't include .pdf as the file type when downloading a form with a unique name as the Collaborator, it downloads without a file extension.
Remembering to continually add the pdf file extension is a pain so I'm hoping there is away of setting this as a defaulet for my 'collaborator' account ?

Firstly, apologies for multiple posts, I received messages saying my comment hadn't posted and also checked my history before re-submitting.
    Okay, the process is
    1. Log in as the Author account and I can rename the file without having to set the extension
    2. Log in as the Collaboartor account - same PC, browser etc and it doesn't save with a default file extension; HOWEVER, I have done this whilst also being logged in on a diffrent browser as the Author
3 I have just tried logging out as Author and only being in as the collaborator and the form downloaded with a default PDF.
    4. I had someone else log in as the collaborator from thei PC and browser whilst I was still signed inunder my author account and again they were unable to save as PDF by default
This has me wondering if there is anything at play when you've got multiple Users?

  • Set Default Save Location for All Programs

What I need is a program that will set the default save folder (in all programs) to the same folder the current file came from.
If I do a "Save As" I want the folder in the Save dialog box to always be the folder the file is in.
This was brain-dead easy in OS 9 (General Control Panel, Save Location, Folder That is Set by the Application).
I cannot find a help file, a preference pane, an add-on program, anything to allow this.
If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it.

  • Default save file location ignored for Outlook attachments

Whenever I open an office attachment in Outlook, then edit and try to save, it always goes to "Libraries/Documents". I then have to do numerous clicks to get to my default location for every file.
Is there somewhere to set the default for this. The "default file location" in Excel or Word are ignored.
    Thanks, Joe

    Try this:
Open the Registry Editor (regedit) and browse to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options
Create a new String value called "DefaultPath" in the right pane, modify the entry to the locate as you want.

  • Set Default "Save As" Path When Launching

    Hello,
Is it possible to pass command-line arguments to Reader (and what are the options)? I cannot seem to find documentation on this.
Specifically, I would like to open a document, in Reader, from an external process, with the 'Save As' option pointing to a folder different that the one the document resides in. The document resides in a temporary folder. If the user wishes to save it to disk using "Save As", it defaults to the external process' temp folder. Users tend to just want to save it there, and it gets cleaned up when by the external application. This makes my users grumpy.
Thus, if I could launch the process with an argument that points the working directory to something other than the directory the document resides in, that would be cool.
    Thanks.

  • Any way to set default Save Settings? Fireworks CS3

Actually, the plain PNG file format is a pure raster/bitmap
    image
format. The vectors in Fireworks were added to the
    proprietary data
chunk that can be added to a PNG file. There's no intrinsic
    vector
support in the PNG format. The open vector format for the Web
    was
supposed to be the SVG format which still has little to no
    support.
    > Because of the file size, and bandwidth limitations, and
    poor browser
    > support, this intention of the png format never came to
    light.
The advantages of the PNG format as an end format for Web
    sites are
still as real as ever: being able to embed a color profile,
    full alpha
transparency, adaptive lossless compression that handles what
    GIF and
JPGs traditionally did equally well in one file at usually
    smaller sizes
than either of them. All of that still holds true more than
    ever,
especially now that IE7 finally handles transparency. But
    none of that
is even remotely relevant to Fireworks.
It's that use of the format as a native editable format I
    question and I
still think it was a bad idea if only for how confusing it is
    for new users.

    like Flex.
Browser support and usage as a native file format within a
    graphics
application are two non-related and completely different
    things. The
browser limitations of PNG never affected its behavior within
    Fireworks
where it matters to Fireworks users. Being able to preview
    one's native
file in a browser is only a marginally useful side-effect of
    using the
PNG format and the only one anyone seems to be able to come
    up with.
No one expects a PSD or an AI file to be preview-able in a
    browser. Why
would that be so important for Fireworks? The PNG format
    might be open
but the proprietary data Fireworks uses to save its native
    data is not.
Again, what's the point? What's the advantage? Where's the
    brilliance?
You would not use a native FW PNG file on a Web site or a
    Flex app that
is bloated Hey! I can see what my site comp looks like in my
    browser.
Big deal...by Fireworks' proprietary data. You would use an
    exported
one. What's the big deal with Fireworks using the PNG file
    format for
its native files then? What is the advantage over an entirely
proprietary format like PSD, AI or INDD? To me, there is
    none. The only
"open" part of the PNGs Fireworks saves is the bitmap preview
    part. The
rest is a closed proprietary format just like a PSD or AI
    file. But wow!
I can see what my native FW file looks like in my browser!
    Big deal...
Sorry for the sarcasm but when people are loosing work I have
    to
question why the choice was made to use the same format and
    file
extension for a graphic app's editable files as one of its
    main flattened
exported ones. I see none, none whatsoever. What is really
    worth it
then? Not to me, not by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Change default save file type to gif

I've seen people submit some solutions but it requires changing codes of the files.... is there a simpler way to do it? I don't understand why it's saving as a jpg file... the older versions used gif as the default for save as web...

That is odd. What version of Ps are you using? Both CS6 and CC 2014 hold the last used format (GIF) for me.. First, try holding Alt (Win) or Opt (Mac) with Save For Web open - the "cancel" will become a "reset" button. Now try again. Also, when you press Alt/Opt you should see the "done" will become a "remember."

  • Save file without JFileChooser in specific directory

    hi!
can you save a file without opening a JFileChooser dialogue to a specific directory??
the problem I have got is not how to address to the directory but how to save the file....
    could someone help me please?
    thx
    charly

If u only want to save the file instead of selecting from the filechooser then you should use
    JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
    int retVal = fc.showSaveDialog(frame);
    if(retVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION)
    String filename = fc.getSelectedFile().getName();
getName() will give file name and getAbsolutePath() will give the full path.
filename -> is the file name that u entered for saving in the field. I am not sure if this what u wanted. Hope this helps otherwise pls be more specific in ur question.
    Selvi.
I was pondering the same question. if I just open the
dialog, instead of choosing a file from a directory, I
want to type in a new file name, and save it.
    help is appreciated.

  • Setting default attached file

Is there a way to get Firefox to point to the same file after an attachment is attached to an email? I am looking for work and to attach my resume to the email Firefox always starts on the desktop and then I have to click a couple of times to get to my resume file. Unlike Chrome which keeps that file as the place to start when you do your next attachment Firefox reverts right back to the desktop. In summary I am wondering if there is a setting that will allow Firefox to remember where the last attachment was found and continue to return to this same destination each time an attachment is needed?

    Hi mulfred2001,
In Windows 8 I believe this is a system default. If I try to add an attachement to a gmail compose the same directory opens when I click the attach button However if I go to a new website the file upload will go back to the default home directory.
Please update your flash player and Firefox to version 30. Please post back with results.
What steps are you taking where you are seeing the directory is different?

  • Set default save for documents to Full Size

My Acrobat 9 Standard got reset to save my documents at 10%, I need to save them at 100% without resaving every document under Save as.

No. You can't pre-fill the Save As dialog. What you can do is offer the new
name in a prompt window just before the file is saved, or you can use a
script that automatically saves the file under the new name (this requires
the script to be installed on the local machine, not just to be embedded in
    the PDF file).

The "C: \Documents and Setting\Downloads\" is the folder I used to try downloading the same file to via 2 different methods.

    2) When I use the "Always ask me where.." download setting, and I select the same folder, the Firefox window completely disappears without any message at all !
