Setting EXCEL output as default

I have an XML Concurrent in Applications, designed for excel output.
If i want to run the concurrent, i have to set manually the excel output in the concurrent requests options (the default output is PDF). I want to know if there is a way of set the excel output as default for this particular concurrent (cuz the user is a bit lazy, and me too a little...).

• Excel Output in Default in Number

Hai All,
1. I am developing a matric report foe employee, to list down the element name and element value. Element_value in back end is a varchar2 field, When the report is created and in excel the output comes propely, but when I tried to get sum function in excel I am not getting the sum of the column.
I tried converting to_number in RDF while converting to XML and even tried <?xdofx: to_number(result_value)?> even in the RTF. But I am not able to get the sum by default in Excel.
2. In matrix report if a function or summary column is placed inside the cross product then the while extracting the XML data those fields are not coming by default.
eg. I have a column to calculated the element wise total in matrix, but when extracted to XML those columns are not extracted, how can we get the sum of those elements for matrix.

• How do I set Excel as default program to open CSV files?

I am using a program that creates CSV files which I wish to open with Excel. Currently, the CSV files just open as a raw data sheet on my computer. Support folks said I didn't have Excel as my default program to open CSV files; How do I do this?
Thanks,
Kevin

You can only set an automatic download action for CSV to open with Excel is a website sends such a file with a supported MIME type. In other cases you need to select the application to use. You can set the default application via Windows Explorer to make Firefox offer that as first choice (right click a CSV file > Open With).

• Excel output: Cell Size not adequate

Hi all,
I am designing an XML Report whose default output format is excel.
To one field, I am assigning a long text. When I run the report and generate excel output, the text is not shown fully. I have to manually increase the column size in excel to see the entire text
Is there some setting in RTF such that I can force the column to expand to accommodate entire string at all times?
Thanks,
Rahul

Hi,
I am using 10.1.3.4.1 BI Publisher. When I upload my .rtf template in Backoffice 13.0.1, the cell sizes get adjusted in a random manner. The size doesn't remain same in the Back office application from what I have created in .rtf temlpate. How can I fix the cell size in BI publisher so that it doesn't get auto adjusted in BackOffice application.
Please help to resolve this issue. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks & Regards

Hi
I created a jsp report for excel output. I see that the numbers are left aligned with a green traingle on the top of each cell. Was just wondering how can I resolve this and have my numbers displayed as numbers - right aligned and with no green triangle. Is there some setting I have to make explicitly so that numbers appear as numbers in excel output?
Thx!

Hi Sasidar,
In Excel right click the column select format cells and then select  the format as text which is general by default.

I have tried to generate output of an XML report in Excel format, its working fine.
There is an image in the RTF, the image is not displayed in the Excel output (its showing like 'X').
I have followed the following steps:
1)Insert > picture > from file > FNDSSCORP.gif
2) Right Click on picture > Format Picture
3) Enter as follows in the Web tab of Format Picture url:’${OA_MEDIA}/FNDSSCORP.gif’}
Can anyone please help me on this, this is very urgent.
Thanks, Divya

You should put this issue on the XML Pub forum.
I remember some specific setting required for linking images off the instance top. Check the XML Pub dev guide.

• Amount formating in Excel output of XML Publisher Report

Hi,
I have to display my XML output in Excel format. I want the output of amount column to be displayed in form '#,###.00' and the negatives numbers are to be displayed in parenthesis. For eg number -234.5 should be displayed as (234.50).
I tried <?format-number:AMOUNT;'99G999G999G990D00PT'?> and also <?format-currency:OPEN_BALANCE;'99G999G999G990D00PT'?>.
Both of these works in PDF output, but its not working for Excel output.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks and Regards

The best way i found was to put a equals and then double quotes... this only works for excel however it will allow you to cut and paste (ie to use the value to search in Oracle) and also to do vlookups.
In a bit more detail:
- I used word to generate my default table
- this created a field INVOICE_NUM
- in the cell in the table i put = " before the INVOICE_NUM field and then put the closing " afterwards.
The theory is that excel will concatenate the values together... because it has quotes around it, it will treat it as a string rather than simply a value.
For any other formats this will not work.
I'm guessing most people have moved on and resolved this some other way, but just thought I'd share the wealth!

• Problems in generating excel output

Hi all,
I'm facing a problem submitting a report with XML output (XML Publisher 5.0.1). I created a RTF template in order to generate an excel output but when I launch the concurrent, its status after few minutes becomes "Warning" logging java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. The strangest thing is that the PDF output generates normally without errors or warnings.
I've found on metalink a note in which they suggest to create a configuration file (xdo.cfg) where i've declared a temporary folder in order to split the XML in two parts to allow the XDO to create correctly my excel output....but it didnt work! :(
After that I added to my concurrent execution options the string "-Xmx512m" to increase the memory for that particular task (even if i think that 128 mb for a XML file of 5 MB are more than necessary)... but no results (in this case i've had another error "java.io.FileNotFoundException: /opt/app/oracle//admin/out//o2260792.out (No such file or directory)" ).
Can someone help me??
Is it a normal behaviour?? It seems to be a joke, cause in metalink they suggest everybody to apply patches and patches!!
Thx all

Hi Nisha,
Refer to that link.....May be it will helpful for you....
Are You All Able to get the Output In EXCEL Format
Otherwise you can do one thing......Add one more Viewer option for XML type data... Most probably earlier For viewing the XML data you are using Browser... So by default whenever you are trying to see the output it is opening it in Browser....
Now add one more Viewer option For XML as Microsoft Excel......
So After making two viewer option for XML data whenever you will try to see the output of XML data it will ask you...Viewing option...1.Browser 2. Excel
Choose Excel here it will not give you any error and you will be able to open the output in Excel format.....

• Excel output for the xml publisher report when it is scheduled

How to get the excel output for the xml publisher report when it is scheduled by a apps user? Like what is the user profile option (for the apps user who runs the report) and what are the other things that needs to be taken care of so that only this xml publisher report run by this apps user produces a EXCEL output (When scheduled) ???
Really appreciate it if any one can help me in this regards.
Thanks
Munna

Hi Munna,
For eBusiness Suite (apps user) the report output is stored the same way whether executed immediately or scheduled.,To get excel set the options > output format to Excel. Only the user that submitted the report can view it, or you can get the output file from the server. Or you can set the notify option so that a Workflow Notification is sent when the request completes.

• EXCEL output logo issues in  XML Publisher

Please tell me what i can do to get the image by default same as the way i am getting in PDF.
Thanks

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your suggession.
I have two OAF versions and i found the xml publisher version from the below java file
$OA_JAVA/oracle/apps/xdo/common/MetaInfo.class
in both 11.5.10 and 12.1.1 OAF versions i am seeing the below line of code
public static final String VERSION = "Oracle XML Publisher 5.6.3";
when i login to the application and went to the About this page option available there
in 11.5.10 i got to see that the version
is XML Oracle XDK Java 9.0.4.0.0 Production
in 12.1.1 version
XML Oracle XML Developers Kit 10.1.3.130 - Production
But as per your seggession from the MOS document 736897.1, i came to know that it is an issue in 5.6.3
Can you please tell me how to find out my xml publisher version in different EBS versions.
I am using Office 2007.
Finally,
in the document i can see that
Applies to:
*BI Publisher (formerly XML Publisher) - Version 11.5 to 12.1 [Release 11.5 to 12.1]*
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Means this issue is not fixed even in 12.1.3.
To resolve this issue,do we need to do the manual image setup like the way menioned in the document 736897.1?
Thanks

• Re: how to influence the rowheight in excel output

I tried to use dummy table with one row and column around the existing table with data. The properties were set as 'Autofit to Contents option' for both tables.
For both tables, i specified  - Table, Table Properties, Cell tab and uncheck the "Preferred Width" checkbox - and in Row tab uncheck specify height.
Still i see that in Excel output, the row height is increased since data is large enough to fit in one cell. Can someone help me understand if iam doing anything wrong here.
Thank you.

Hi,
Standard RTF table properties for autosizing and fixing table column/row/cell width/height should apply. At the time of RTF creation you don't necessarily have data representative of the size of the data you're going to get when you run the report. And using autosize to fix the width at design time will be impacted by the presence both your form fields and lack of data. So you probably do want autosized columns especially for Excel/HTML where output is not "pagesize" restricted.
Anyway, I digress, I thought I'd try to get BI Publisher (5.6.3) to put in an "auto" width or column-width for specific columns:
- tried using Word autosize - didn't work
- tried using xsl attributes (column-width) but BI Publisher seemed to ignore it.
Then strangely enough autosize worked in one of my test cases!
So here are the steps I used to get autosize with Excel consistently working:
If you are creating a new table:
1a. Table, Insert, Table, choose your number of columns/rows and choose the Autofit to Contents option (or the Fixed Column Width: Auto) option
Or if you want to autosize an existing table
1b. Select your table and go to Table, Table Properties, Cell tab and uncheck the "Preferred Width" checkbox - and in Row tab uncheck specify height
2. After the table you want appearing on your output insert another "dummy" autosize table (as per 1a), but with just 1 row, 1 column and make remove the border so it doesn't appear.
See if it works!
PS. would be excellent if Tim sees this, me thinks might be a gremlin in the code ;-)
