Setting JTextPane size so that it prints at 2" x 3.5"

I need to set the size of a JTextPane in a way that it will always be printed as 2" x 3.5", no matter what the resolution or the screen size may be.
I have tried setting the size in pixels, using the following formula: pixels = inches x DPI
This doesn't always work however (ex: when Windows Vista settings are set to larger scale (120DPI), the JTextPane prints larger than desired).
This is the code:
// set sizes
        int screenResolutionDPI = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenResolution();
        int widthInches = 2;
        int heightInches = 3.5;
        cardWidth = (int) (widthInches * screenResolutionDPI));
        cardHeight = (int) (heightInches * screenResolutionDPI));
        setPreferredSize(new Dimension(cardWidth, cardHeight));
        setMinimumSize(new Dimension(cardWidth, cardHeight));
        setMaximumSize(new Dimension(cardWidth, cardHeight));
        setSize(new Dimension(cardWidth, cardHeight));Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

That works. Glad to see it's that simple.
Here is the working code:
// set sizes
        int widthInches = 2;
        double heightInches = 3.5;
        cardWidth = (int) (widthInches * 72);
        cardHeight = (int) (heightInches * 72);Thanks for your help!

  • Trouble reducing image size so that it prints on one page

    Before upgrade to safari 6.0 I would be able to fit screenshots into one page simply by command & minus key.  Now shrinking screen image has no effect at all on reducing the print size of the image.  I have to mess with scale % in the print dialogue box and this is a pain.  Anybody know a solution?

    It would be good practice to search for the key word watermark in Pages User Guide to get detailed infos.

    If you put photo paper in the printer it will print correctly on the paper. Also, some photo printers will adjust the size photo printed when you put different size photo paper in the tray.

  • How to set PAPER SIZE in PRINT VIEW

    I am missing a step here in printing to Tabloid paper size.
    How do I set the paper size in the actual document or on the actual sheet?
    I am in Print View and I am guessing that it is showing the Sheets for my document as printing on 8 1/2 x 11 paper which appears to mean that no matter what I do - once I go to Print (like printing to Tabloid paper size) that this document will print at 8 1/2 x 11 even if it is printing on 11 x 17 paper.
    I understand that I need to move the slider to get the document to fit on the paper but it appears that right now I am doing this simply to get the document to fit on 8 1/2 x 11.
    Is there a setting somewhere that tells Print View what paper size to use? Is this set by Individual Sheet?
    Thanks,
    Jon

    Ah crimeny. This is Inspector > Page?
    I am getting a bit confused as to how to print on various size paper and how to SAVE THESE SETTINGS.
    For EACH SHEET I have to do the following:
    First I pulldown to the Printer and the Page Size in INSPECTOR
    THEN I scale the Sheet Manually to fit this paper in PRINT VIEW
    THEN I run PRINT?
    Now what?
    Is there a way to get this to Print in Color instead of Black and White?
    Can I make some PRESETS somewhere that will let me print to this printer at Tabloid size in Color and then in Black and White and also make some PRESETS that will let me print 8 1/2 x 11 and 12 x 18 so I can just pulldown to these?
    Thanks for any help. I'm not on a deadline but I am losing this battle apparently...

  • Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within

    Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

    So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
    For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
    So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
    This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.

    Hi Experts
    I had a requirement for  the Query, when we executing the through slection screen we will be giving 0fiscyear "from and to" dates. the "Valid to" (0date)  has to check the relation of the Client partner and contract of relationship, if it is within the current date it should dipslay the report with values , if it is out of current date, it should display in the report as "null".
    Logic : This report is based on the u201CClient Partneru201D and the u201CContact ofu201D relationship. If any of these relationships have a u201CValid Tou201D
               date set before the date that the report is run u2013 print u201Cnullu201D.
    Could anyone of you provide the inputs on this.

  • I would like to set my preferences so that documents always print double-sided without having to click anything other than "print".

    I'm trying to set my preferences so that all documents print double-sided automatically without my having to remember to click the "Print on both sides of paper" button.  I print literally thousands of PDF files!  Duplexed.  How do I set this as a preference?  PS: I work on a MAC OS X and I have Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.12.

    I'm not trying to set the printer preferences, I'm trying to set the
    Adobe Acrobat Printer defaults.  If I don't click on "Print on both
    sides of paper" in the Acrobat Print box, then that overrides my printer
    default and prints the document single sided.  In the "good old days" I
    just chose "Duplex" under "Advanced" and then Acrobat would
    automatically duplex all my print jobs until I chose otherwise.  Now,
    duplex is not an option under Advanced....  I was hoping it had just
    been moved elsewhere.

  • Confirm that SHMMAX kernel parameter is set datastore size

    Hi,
    I'm getting below exception when i'm trying to create datastore. The error is complaining about failure to create shared memory segment.
    I did go through the T-10 documentation and various post on this forum, and have made sure that the OS and the DSN settings are as per the recommended values. The values meets(or rather exceeds) the minimum values.
    The values are based on below formulas:
    kernel.shmmax (in bytes) = Should be >= PermSize + TempSize + LogBufMB +~50MB overhead
    kernel.shmall (in pages) = Should be >= ceil ( SHMMAX / PAGE_SIZE)
    SwapTotal (in KB) = Swap space should generally be at least 1.5x total physical memory size. It should be sufficient to allow allocation of a large enough shared memory segment
    TempSize (in MB) = Should be >= 40 MB + ceiling( PermSize / 8 MB)

    Hi,
    On continuing my debugging steps, if checked the limits for IPC facility.
    ipcs -m -l
    ------ Shared Memory Limits --------
    max number of segments = 4096
    max seg size (kbytes) = 32768
    max total shared memory (kbytes) = 8388608
    min seg size (bytes) = 1
    This says that "max number of segments = 4096", where as the kernel parameter is defined as "kernel.shmall = 4294967296".
    Am i correct in understanding that "max number of segments" is same as "kernel.shmall" and the values should be same.
    Also, it says that "max seg size (kbytes) = 32768" ie around 32MB, where as the kernel parameter is defined as "kernel.shmmax = 68719476736" i.e around 64BG.
    and since, the DSN is requesting to create shared memory segment of 128MB, which is greater that 32MB(as per max seg size (kbytes) = 32768), Timesten is throwing the error.
    Thanks everyone for helping me out.

    InDesign is a pretty complex application to learn on your own.
    As soon as possible, acquire a good book on InDesign. My recommendation for beginners is Sandee Cohen's "InDesign QuickStart Guide." There are editions for different versions for InDesign. Less than $20.
