Setting up a rollout.

Is there a best practices guide to rolling out an iPad implementation?  We are rolling out 30 ipads and I am sure it will snowball.  Looking to head off any headaches by doing the set up right from the launch.  We are a windows platform school.

We are doing an iPad pilot this year as well at my school.  We purchased the Brettford cart, which holds 30 ipads and comes with charging stations for each of the ipads, and direct connectivity to the main computer managing the iPads, through one usb cable.  We are obviously very early in our pilot, but have been very heppy with the cart as a part of the implementation.  As far as managing the iPads, I would agree with gyrhead in that creating one school account for your apple purchases is a best practice.  We created an acount [email protected] to cover all of our digital content, meaning that we can do our licenses for our desktops under that account as well.  After hearing several horror stories of iTunes accounts/Apple accounts getting hacked, I would strongly recommend creating your account like we did.  We created a new account, but used a gift card to create the account.  This prevents a credit card from being associated with the account, so that if someone were to hack the school's apple account, they can only get as much as we have available on the gift card.
The next issue after the cart is rolled out is how to manage projects from a device meant for a single user, but shared amongst multiple students.  We created a system for saving all fo the projects like this:  "flastname##" (first initial last name) "Class Name" "Per. #"  On the iPads, I used the iPhone configuration utility available for free download from apple right here:  iphone config that link is for installing it on a windows machine.  They have it available also for a mac machine.  This will allow you to setup all of the wifi credentials in mass, setup whatever security settings you would like to have, restrictions and what we like, the mail setup.
After some testing, we are happy with how we setup email for the iPad cart.  I created a generic email address for the cart:  [email protected] and have it set to be a receive only account.  How I did that was simply entering in an incorrect password for the incoming mail server.  Then for the smtp server I put in the correct credentials.  I could definitely get into more of the nitty gritty details on the rules I setup for my teacher accounts, so the emails are all automaticaly placed according to the class and period they are received, but do not want to be-labor this any more than is helpful.  You can check out our blog documenting our roll-out if you would like:  vcmsipad.blogspot.com

  • BC Sets for Global Rollout

    All-
I need some information / lessons learned on cataloging BC sets on the Configuration Tab for a Template Project. If you have used this functionality (i.e. recorded the config values, packaged them up in SOLAR02, and executed them for subsequent projects) I'd like to know.
What were the implications? Was it worth it?

    Bump. Anyone?

    Hello Nureya,
Business Configuration Sets (BC Sets) are the collection of Customizing settings. This is mostly used in Global rollout project where the same kind of customization is required but with different data.
In standard SAP system, BC Sets are available for some settings also you can create your own BC sets. When you create BC sets at that time system will copy the original customization table settings in BC sets table which you can use later.
The loading of BC Sets is logged by the system, i.e. which BC Set was copied when into the system, and any errors which occurred. This information is significant for Continuous Change and Upgrade.
The settings in the BC Set can be compared with the system data using the Customizing Cross-System Viewer, to check the consistency of the data.
    Advantages of using BC Sets:
    ·         Efficient group rollout.
    ·         Industry sector systems are easier to create and maintain.
    ·         Customizing can be performed at a business level.
    ·         Change Management is quicker and safer.
    ·         Upgrade is simpler.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to create Switch BC sets

    Dear all,
Could you please tell me how to create a switch BC set? or Assign a switch to BC set?
(I knew how to create the switch and BC set, but did not know switch BC set)
    Thanks,

    Hi,
            Usual procedure
    1) BC sets will be attached to SAP note usually. Download it and unzip it , you will get a *.bcs file
    2) Call transaction SCPR20  BC set --> Upload In the dialog box that then appears, specify the files that you unpacked
Import the set BC into a package that you have defined. activate it with the "Expert mode"
    3) You will also get a *.txt file with prog id , obj etc entries , then you have to go to SE09 and create a transport request in the source client of your Solution Manager system (client 000). Open the *.txt and copy the entries it contains into the transport request. Use transaction SCC1 to import the data in your Solution Manager client(s
    Business Configuration Sets (BC-CUS)
Customizing settings can be collected by processes into Business Configuration Sets (BC Sets). BC Sets make Customizing more transparent by documenting and analyzing the Customizing settings. They can also be used for a group rollout, where the customizing settings are bundled by the group headquarters and passed on in a structured way to its subsidiaries.
BC Sets are provided by SAP for selected industry sectors, and customers can also create their own.
When a BC Set is created, values and combinations of values are copied from the original Customizing tables into the BC Set and can be copied into in the tables, views and view clusters in the customer system. The BC Sets are always transported into the customer system in which Customizing is performed.

  • BC sets & Implementation timelines

    Hi,
I would like to know about Business configuration( BC) sets and ways to reduce implementation timelines?
    Regards,,
    Nishant Kansara

    Hi Nishant,
In the R/3 system from SAP, a Business Configuration Set (BC Set) is a management tool that allows the user to record, save, and share customized settings.
By creating a BC Set, the user is provided with a snapshot of the customized settings of a system that can be used later on as a template; SAP also provides pre-packaged BC sets designed for specific industries and applications.
BC Sets are useful because they provide continuity and prevent project team members from overwriting each other's settings.
They can also be used for a group rollout, where the customizing settings are bundled by the group headquarters and passed on in a structured way to its subsidiaries.
When a BC Set is created, values and combinations of values are copied from the original Customizing tables into the BC Set and can be copied into in the tables, views and view clusters in the customer system. The BC Sets are always transported into the customer system in which Customizing is performed.
The loading of BC Sets is logged by the system, i.e. which BC Set was copied when into the system, and any errors which occurred. This information is significant for Continuous Change and Upgrade.
There are two kinds of BC Sets:
    ·        BC Sets (previously sometimes referred to as "simple BC Sets")
    ·        Hierarchical BC Sets
A BC Set is identified by the following attributes:
    ·        Name
    ·        Type (simple or hierarchical)
    ·        Release
    ·        Software component
    ·        Last changed by (person), on (date) and at (time)
    BC Sets
A BC Set can contain data from one or more IMG activities. Each IMG activity is listed separately with its Customizing objects (tables or views). The data is selected by table columns and rows, each column is a field, each row a record.
    Advantages of using BC Sets:
    ·         Efficient group rollout.
    ·         Industry sector systems are easier to create and maintain.
    ·         Customizing can be performed at a business level.
    ·         Change Management is quicker and safer.
    ·         Upgrade is simpler.

  • Roll out project details

    Hi Guru's
Iam going to assign rollout project could u please tell me the details, Roles and responsibilities being a sd consultant
    Thanks and Regards
    Srinivas Kapuganti

    Hi
    Global Rollout with a Template
    Purpose
In a global rollout you define one or more templates containing scenarios, Blueprint documents and configuration, at head office.
You can decide which parts of the template are relevant to the subsidiaries, and whether, or to what extent, they can change the template in their rollout projects.
You transport the centrally-defined template to the subsidiaries. They use the template in an implementation project to implement solutions, following your guidelines.
    Prerequisites
You have created a template project in the Project Administration.
You have assigned a transportable package and a transport request of type 'Workbench Request' to this template project.
    Process Flow
Defining a template in the company headquarters
           1.      You create one or more templates in your template project, in the company headquarters Project Administration.
           2.      Set the Global Rollout Functionality is Active flag in the Templates tab in the Project Administration.
This means that the subsidiaries can change structures and business content from this template, within limits, in their local rollout project.
           3.      Assign values in the structure element Global Attribute column, in the Structure tab in the Business Blueprint, to specify whether each structure element is to be obligatory, changeable, or not changeable for the subsidiaries.
For further information about the effects of the attribute value on a structure element at the subsidiaries, see The Global Attribute in Global Rollout.
           4.      To pass on the Global attribute to the subnodes of a structure element, select it in the Structure tab in the Business Blueprint, and choose Pass On Global Attribute.
To prevent inheritance of the Global attribute, choose the empty row from the possible entries help for the Global Attribute column, at scenario level.
           5.      Perform the activities required in the Business Blueprint phase, e.g. assign transactions and general documentation.
           6.      Perform the activities required in the Configuration phase, e.g. assign Business Configuration Sets.
           7.      If you want to implement the template in subsidiaries which have a different project language from that in the headquarters template project, translate the template.
           8.      Deliver the template.
Import the template into the subsidiaries
           1.      Send the objects which you have created in the company headquarters component systems in the Solution Manager, to the subsidiariesu2019 component systems (see Transport a Template to Another System Landscape in Using a Template).
           2.      Send the template to the subsidiaries.
           3.      Import the template in the subsidiaries (see Importing the Template into the Target Systems in Using a Template).
           4.      If the template has changed, compare the new version of the template with the project structure and the assigned objects of your target system, and copy the changes if required.
Apart from the points mentioned above you have to look for the localisation part like
    1.Taxation
    2.Org Structure
    3.Out put Forms
    4.Legal and Local business requirments.
    Thanks

  • Blank composition, close button malfunctions... help

I made a blank composition, applied close button option, the button stays on page after rolling my mouse over the close button, then the close button stays on page... help

Thank you for pointing that out Stephen.
I am able to replicate that in case where the Hide Target is set to "On Rollout" or "On Rollout of Trigger and Target".
However, if you are using one of those options for Hide Target setting, I wonder why you need the close button (could you elaborate on your specific requirement so I may help better?).

  • How to set default preferences for an enterprise rollout installation?

How do I establish my own default skin, color scheme and canvas size for an enterprise-wide rollout of X2008 SP3?
I have found the Xcelsius.ini file in the root install directory (C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius).
If I change the skin value in this file to Nova, Xcelsius correctly sets the skin to Nova when running the app.  But it completely ignores my changes to width, height, and colorScheme.
Is there some other location where these preferences are stored?
Also, where are my custom color schemes stored?  I would like to include those in my enterprise-wide rollout as well.
    Thanks!
    Chris

I found my own answer to this question.  The only xcelsius.ini file that seems to matter is the one in the user's Application Data folder under C:\Documents and Settings.  Also, any custom color schemes are stored there as well.
So for our enterprise-wide rollout, we will just place our versions of those files in that location.

  • BC set for Rollout

    Hi All
We are doing Global rollout, already 1st phase is live and 2nd in testing phase, 3rd is in realization phase.
Now the ask is to use BC set functionality so that in future we can find out where the system was at end of each rollout in terms of configuration.
1> We have separate development box for Release 1 so I can create BC set and copy all config for Release 1 and import to SolMan for future reference. How to achieve this?
2> Also for Release 2 and Relase 3 we have same development box. How to capture the config of Release 2 and Release 3 separately in different BC set.
Has anyone having any idea on the above 2 questions.
    Thanks
    Smita

I tried with the BC Set but it was not possible for me to make it work. Finally I have used Process Controlled Workflow (WS40000014).

  • How do I set up an emulator for testing my application?

I'm starting to wade into GPIB and cannot seem to find the best way to continue given all the components (not meaning ActiveX) required to assemble a semi-reliable development and testing environment for beta rollouts.
I have set up my design environment. Now I need a way to emulate some of the equipment I will be developing for so that I may test my apps before final testing on the actual equipment (which I obviously have no access to at this point).
Given that.. am I correct in understanding that LabView or IVI allows this type of functionality? If so, here are my specific questions regarding development:
    1) Do I currently need any hardware or can the GPIB device list be populated from IVI/LabView emula
tors? In other words... how do I make the 'link' between these two technologies?
    2) Can IVI/LabView run on the same machine as my test application, or is a secondary machine required?
    3) Is there a general punch list of software (LabView, etc.) I might need in order to get this going?
    4) Any general (or specific) overviews that may help me get over this hump would be greatly appreciated.
    Charles

Whether or not you are able to simulate your hardware will depend on what method you are using to program it. If you are programming the instrumentation directly using the GPIB ActiveX control or GPIB calls directly you will not have the ability to do simulate in software. If you are using an instrument driver, however, you will be able to do simulation if the instrument driver is IVI compliant.
Assuming that you are using an IVI-compliant instrument driver, here are the answers to your questions:
    1. You do not need any hardware whatsoever. You can either specify to use simulation in your code by using the InitWithOptions functionality and specifying "SIMULATE=TRUE" in the option string parameter. You can also set things up externally so that you can alter simulation strictly through the IVI configuration so that your code doesn't have to change.
    2. It will run on the same machine as your code. As far as your application is concerned, it will not appear any differently however no GPIB communication will occur.
    3. IVI compliant instrument drivers for all of the GPIB hardware you are using. These are available for download from ni.com.
    4. I think that there may be some IVI-related application notes.
Assuming that you are not using an IVI-compliant instrument driver and instead are either using a non-IVI instrument driver or making GPIB calls directly, things can get a little more elaborate. If you want full emulation capability you'll need to write another piece of software that emulates your device. This can be done in LabVIEW or any other ADE of your choice. What you'll need is a second GPIB card (to act as your device) that you'll cable to from your main computer. That card can live in a second machine or in the same one as your main application. You may want to put it in a separate test machine just to keep things a little cleaner.
If you go with this approach, it's not too difficult to write an emulator for a single device (or at least that functionality of a device that you use) per GPIB card. It will be more difficult to write an emulator that emulates multiple devices using a single GPIB card. In other words, you may want to use a separate GPIB card for each instrument you want to emulate. I wrote such an emulator some time ago but can't seem to find it. In any case, it's probably only a couple of days effort.
To make a long story short, your life will be a lot easier if you have IVI-compliant instrument drivers available for the hardware that you are using.

  • Receive Connector stopped working after Update Rollout 2 for Exchange 2007 SP2

One of the Exchange 2007 servers receive connector has stopped working since installing the latest rollout update for Exchange 2007 SP2 - for some reason the following error is received (when troubleshooting on the adjacent server) :
"Remote server server.domain.co.uk failed the mail acceptance test. MAIL FROM command: Respond = 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated."
Most admins will know you usually get this when first setting up Exchange and the receive connector not allowing anonymous connections. But our setup has been working for well over a year with no problems. Even enabling anonymous connections still doesn't fix the problem.
Our setup is 2 exchange servers across 2 sites, with the problematic server never receiving email from the internet, only from the other Exchange server (which is internet facing). The above error is received when the internet facing server is relaying email over to the problematic server. Though in the message queue the following error is received:
    "SMTPSEND.DNS.NonExistantDomain; nonecistant domain"
After testing DNS that all seems fine, so I don't believe it's a DNS problem.
Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt....
To receive e-mails from the external servers or domains or clients, you can setup a new receive connector on Hub Transport Server. To do this task, you can go through the steps mentioned in this blog....
    https://mailsolutions.wordpress.com/2015/02/06/resolving-error-530-5-7-1-client-was-not-authenticated-with-receiver-connector/

    Hi
    1) If your plant is excise then you have to create excise group for that plant and G/L setting for that excise group
    2) You have to extend your material in new plant

  • How to set textfield.text on frame after goto

This seems a little ridiculous to be asking this question coz
it seems like it should be so simple but here goes anyway.
    STEPS TO RECREATE:
    Step 1 - create a class called simpleButt(see attached)
Step 2 - create a MovieClip with two frame labels on
different keyframes- ROLLOVER and ROLLOUT. on these different
keyframes place a dynamic textfield with instance name -
'buttonTitle'. give it different styling attributes on the ROLLOVER
frame such as text colour, bold or even a glow filter.
Step 3 - In the movie clip's linkage properties, give it the
    'simpleButt' class.
Step 4 - With nothing on the stage, add the following two
    lines to frame actions:
    var newButt:simpleButt=new simpleButt("hello");
    this.addChild(newButt);
    Step 5 - compile!
this should add a simple button to the stage and set the
    button's textfield's text property.
However, after going to another frame on rollover, we lose
the dynamic text - i assume because we have another instance of the
textfield on a different keyframe because it has new styling
properties on rollover. but if i try to set the text after going to
the new frame, it doesn't seem to recognise the textfield yet.
(uncomment lines in simpleButt to see what i mean)
through trial and error i've found that if i wait two
ENTERFRAMEs, the textfield object becomes available, but by this
time the textfield flickers. is there an event i'm missing or
function i could override where i could set the properties of an
object on a frame after a gotoAndStop before it is rendered?
    cheers
    Craig

STEP 2(where the textfield was created) is all done manually
within the authoring environment - no actionscript. This is usually
done by the design team here so to save time i'm trying to avoid
replicating every style change they've made in code.
