Settings lost
Recently I've noticed with one of my user accounts that when I change profile settings (moved around dock items, location of iPhoto Library, etc), the settings are not retained after a log out and subsequent log in. This is only affecting 1 user account. I have tried the "repair permissions" utility inside Disk Utility and this did not solve my problem. Any ideas? I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro 2.9 Ghz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB RAM and 750 GB hard drive.
Many thanks in advance.
Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar.

Locale Settings lost on mobile client 7.8.2.14 after creation of BIP report
Hi All,
we went live with BI Publisher reports (Siebel 7.8.2.14) at the beginning of June.
Now some of our users are having trouble with their mobile web client.
For example our colleagues in Poland have their Windows XP regional settings set to "Polish". It will make Siebel use date format for all date fields (e.g. activity start date) display as YYYY-MM-DD - this works just fine until user is creating a BIP report. After successfull report creation, all locale settings in the mobile client are lost. Instead of YYYY-MM-DD, the dates are displayed in DD.MM.YYYY and creation of new records produces and error. Also, currency and number formats are mixed up.
I assume it's a bug - anyone hit this before?
Edited by: Penky on Jun 17, 2011 11:38 AMYes, we finally decided to do so!
The main reason was that we had a lot of new report change requests and did not want to do the work twice (now in Actuate and then again in BIP). Also we plan our 8.x upgrade for second half of 2011 so this was already some kind of preparation, so we can completely focus on the upgrade afterwards and don't need to hassle around with the reports as well.
issues we're still facing include "user's are not able to run reports after they change their position" or "List reports can only be run for few records, otherwise the search spec hit's an IO field's length limitation" or "report popup can not be suppressed although there's no useful information in it" (not to forget the one described in this thread) and some others.
Well ... after 1 1/2 years since I downloaded the first integration QF the BIP journey still does not end - it's like it just started :) -
User Settings lost after session is released
I am having a problem with the User settings being lost after the user logs off the system.
menu settings, fields displayed in Marketing Documents, displayed User Defined fields and the
sequence of User defined fields get lost after the session ends. This does not happen to all users,
just some users. The users that keep losing their settings keep losing their settings, the ones that do not have a
problem seem never to have a problem.
has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how has it been resolved?
Thanks in Advance!!!

Replaced battery; won't charge beyond 27%. Some settings lost on restart
I recently took advantage of Apple's replacement program for overheating PB batteries, although I hadn't experienced any actual problems. After I installed the replacement my battery won't charge past 27%, plus the date and time reset to 1969 and my AirPort network settings are lost whenever I restart or shut down.
The power indicator in the menu bar constantly shows ""Calculating."
I've already tried resetting the PMU and allowing the battery to discharge fully.
Any ideas?And now for the good news…
The Genius Bar at the KC AppleStore was the source of the solution. They diagnosed a bad battery (the one I'd received in the PB battery replacement program) and changed it out. All's well now, including the "disappearing" settings. -

Mouse Acceleration settings lost on restart or shutdown
Every time I restart (or shutdown -r via terminal) my powermac it loses it's mouse settings. Strange, because only the mouse speed setting is lost. The setting is set to max when I login after a restart (I never shut down, it's my database, web and file server too). I did a pram zap serveral times but that didn't work (or maybe the mouse setting is not stored in pram ) but, does someone know why this thing happens? Or how to fix it?
Sorry, for late raction: I didn't get any mail from the support discussions... Usual I do, but that seems to be disabeld? Well, anyway my mac: Power Mac G4 Single 400Mhz Gigabit ethernet graphite (Model: M5183 printed on the top of the connectivity area), 1.38GB ram, 2x 80 gig hd OS X 10.4.4, radeon 9800 pro. I don't know it's age but I bought it 2nd handed from a guy who had os9 on it.
Mouse: Logitech Optical mouse (as it says on the bottem, usual 3-button, scroll, usb wired) with the latest logitech control center. The speed if very strange: if I put the slider to max it won't even get the speed it gets after a reboot.
And the terminal shutdown -r thingy: I do that via my cell phone / SSH. My phone (nokia 3650) has no VNC support via external app. so I can't do ssh, open a vnc server connect to the vnc server and reboot it the apple way.
Not a big problem (usual uptime 9 weeks or more), but a stange one. -
Publish settings lost on file close
Hi there,
I recently added the 3.8.0.1350 AIR SDK to Flash Pro CC.
When I close a file, then open it again, the look in the Properties Panel > Publish Pane, the Target property has reverted back to "Flash Player 11.7".
Also, when I click the spanner next toi the Script dropdown, all of my Source Path references have been lost.
Is there a fix for this?
Cheers
BenNot happening here, Win 7 64bit Pro, Flash CC w/ Update 1.
I did these steps:
- Create new AS3.0 document "AIR for Desktop"
- Create new ActionScript class named Main (Main.as) a folder up one level from FLA
- Set document class to Main
- Altered default source path from "." to ".."
- Changed script timeout to 30 seconds
- Set hardware accel to Direct (just changing anything I can)
- Main.as:
package
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class Main extends MovieClip
public function Main()
trace('Hello World');
- Ran as default AIR 3.6 for Desktop
- Trace outputted "Hello World"
- Closed document and Main.as
- Opened FLA
- All settings intact
- Ran FLA, same trace result
- Set target to Flash Player 11.5, ran, same trace
- Saved
- Closed all
- Reopened
- Target still set to FP11.5, still traces fine
You may want to try the good old "delete prefs" to see if something is simply corrupt in the preferences. To do that just click Flash CC to start the program (close it if it's already open) and immediately hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click OK to the dialog to reset preferences:
See if it continues to happen. -

Hi
Among all other issues around the security breach the VAT-settings on my account were also lost.
I have restored them, but one invoice (and charge) have been made including VAT. Since EU VAT is not refundable in Sweden I need you to credit the charge somehow. How do I proceed?
/patrickYes. That's when it happened.

All settings lost after startup
hello,
unfortunatly my pb keeps losing all settings(mailaccounts, bookmarks, dock etc.). after i set everthing as it was before it disappeared again.
anyone knows what to do?
thanksI sounds like you may be setting up prefs/settings for one account and logging on another account, but not quite. Any chance you lost, deleted, or misplaced your Home folder?

When i change the category of a few udfs, they appear then in the right category. But as soon as the user logs in on her client, the settings are lost and all the fields are now in the general category again.
What can that be??

SAP Business One 2005A PL 19Hi Philipp
The form setting will only be saved to DB when you exiting
the SBO application via File->Exit.
So,please try below procedure:
1)Make sure no one login with the problematic user
2)Login with that user than modify the form setting,
File->Exit to save the setting.
3)Login again to confirm the form setting is saved
4)Ask the end-user to confirm it.And when he log out,
use the X on the right top instead of File->Exit
to prevent he from saving form setting in to DB
after modfied it accidently.
Hope that could help.

Macbook Battery Problem - Aperture Image Settings Lost?
Having returned from a holiday in Asia, I showed my family the photo's taken while there and displayed them on my Macbook in Aperture full screen.
Rather strangely the battery shut down after a couple of minutes viewing (from circa 66% charge), and when I plugged the power adapter in to charge the computer it had lost most of its application user settings - and Aperture had lost all of my image settings (it went about recovering the library photo's).
Now I'm left with a few thousand RAW photo's which are uncropped, unrotated, ... etc.
Is there any way I can recover this information, or do I have a few days work ahead of me?
I'm not bothered about the other app's (it lost my NewsFire feeds, iTunes listings etc), but I'd prefer to not have to spend hours needlessly working on my photo's again.Thanks for your help :o)
The ironic thing is that I'd wanted to backup my library to my main computer before showing my family, but they were in a rush to see the photo's.
When I booted the computer back up (having to do a hard restart due to the screen staying black with only a moveable cursor visible) Aperture started up with the optional welcome screen I always have turned off. When I proceeded through to the library no images were present, but Aperture then automatically set about finding and retrieving the projects/images.
15 mins later, all projects now present, the images were all as they had been when I imported them from the camera (with no adjustments), aside from one thing - my camera (Canon 5D) automatically rotates portrait images. When I import the images into Aperture direct from the memory card the images are always auto-rotated, but now they have reverted back to all being landscape. -
DB2_WORKLOAD settings lost
SAP ECC6.0
AIX 5.3
DB2 9.5 FP3
We attempted to re-cycle a running SAP instance. It failed to shutdown and restart due to error (found in trans.log):
DB2_WORKLOAD=SAP is not set in DB2 registry
I checked the registry settings ( db2set -all ) and sure enough there were only a few default settings.
I reset the DB2_WORKLOAD and a couple of other IO related parameters and restarted the database.
SAP then started up.
There was no sign of errors in SAP before the shutdown, there is nothing relevant in the database log, and no changes had been made to the database.
Can anyone shed some light on how the registry settings could have been lost?We ran db2iupt per installation guide following the upgrade just before the saproot.sh script.
I also would not expect db2iupt to affect the registry settings. The only reason I suggest this is because it corresponds with the time the profile.env file was wiped out.
However, I was not the one doing the work, so there were perhaps other things going on that caused this issue which I am not aware of. It has not happened before and I don't expect it to happen again.
At least, I learned where the db2set parameters are maintained.
Thanks everyone for the feedback.

[Solved] Catalyst Control Center settings lost after reboot
Hi
After having a working desktop I decided not to use xinerama because it wouldn't work with the composite extension. So i decided to start from scratch. After following the wiki on making a dual-head setup in my xorg.conf file it kind of worked (cloned display 1280x1024). I changed settings in ccc and all was perfect (Big desktop 3200x1080). But then after restarting all ccc configuration was lost.

I got it mostly right now. It's just that my second screen is black. You can move the mouse there but thats it. I will keep on working.
My .xinitrc
cat .xinitrc
#!/bin/sh
# ~/.xinitrc
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
setxkbmap -layout se
exec awesome
The xorg.conf.d should be untouched
sudo ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
10-evdev.conf 50-joystick.conf 50-vmmouse.conf
10-quirks.conf 50-synaptics.conf
The main issue and reason I started over was that Composite wouldn't work when xinerama was enabled. -
N800 os2008 combined: settings lost over reboot, U...
Loaded the combined os2008 onto my n800. Wifi worked (unlike the n800-specific version), lots of other things worked. But there are differences.
- word choice and word prediction during typing used to be defaulted on; now off. Turn them on, they work fine and still use my saved information from before. Turn n800 off last night, turn it on today, and the settings have all been lost - I had to turn them on again.
- concern - what other settings are getting lost over reboot?
- auto capitalization used to UPSHIFT the keyboard to indicate that it was shifting the first letter of a word. not now. caused me problems with a password until i realized i had turned it on along word prediction.I've got the same thing happening on a newly flashed N800. The settings seem to disappear at random. I haven't been able to discern a pattern yet, but, like you, seem to lose them always over a power cycle.
I've had my N800 three days and seeing your post makes me think I don't have a defective unit. When and how does suspicious new behavior turn into a bug? -
ITunes settings lost after reboot
I have a problem where after a reboot the settings of iTunes are back to default. For example:
it loses the account for the Store (I have to re-enter email address and password);
it loses the wifi sync settings for my devices
it shows the iTunes tutorials screen, as if I'm starting iTunes for the first time
settings under preferences are lost
Other things are not lost:
the library is still there;
iTunes remembers the devices (when connecting it is handled as a known device) and knows what playlists/apps/.. to sync with it.
Since I'm not rebooting my Windows 7 PC a lot, the problem is not occuring a lot, it doesn't keep me from using iTunes, it is just annoying. Now after rebooting I decided it's enough and I would post the issue (since I can't seem to find a comparable issue).
Also worthwile noticing is that the problem is already there for some time, though I can't exactly pinpoint anymore when it started. Possible when iTunes 9 or 10 were realeased.
Now I'm using:
Windows 7 64-bit (completly up to date)
iTunes 10.5.2.11
