"Setup was unable create a new system partition" error installing Win7

Hi, I've just purchased aSanDisk Extreme 120Gb SSD (model SDSSDX-120G-G25), and when attempting to install Windows 7 I get a error "Setup was unable create a new system partition or locate an existing partition" when selecting the partition to install to. I've already tried various DISKPART commands to clean the drive, create the partition, format to NTFS and make it active, but to no avail. I've also made sure no other drives are connected except the DVD drive for my Windows disc. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard, plugged into one of the ICH9R Southbridge SATA ports, and I've switched AHCI mode on already. Anybody have any ideas before I send the drive back? Thanks

In such a situation, you can clean the entire SSD using diskpart and this will ensure that the boot sector and system reserved partition is also cleaned. Try using the following method to clean the SSD and use the windows automatic partitioning to create partition for the installation of the operating system. 1. Insert the windows 7 DVD into the DVD drive.
2.On the disk selection screen, press SHIFT+F10. A Command Prompt window opens.
3.Type diskpart, and then press ENTER to open the diskpart tool.
4.Type list disk, and then press ENTER. A list of available hard disks is displayed.
5.Type sel disk number, and then press ENTER. number is the number of the hard disk that you want to clean. The hard disk is now selected.
6.Type det disk, and then press ENTER. A list of partitions on the hard disk is displayed. Use this information to verify that the correct disk is selected.
7.Make sure that the disk does not contain required data, type clean all, and then press ENTER to clean the disk. All the partitions and all the data on the disk is permanently removed.
8.Type exit, and then press ENTER to close9. Continue istallation of Windows OS by using automatic partitioning scheme rather than creating partitions yourself. This worked for me in a similar situation. Hope will work for you as well. Best of Luck:-)

Is this 8MB "Boot" partition (formatted as FAT???) something you created when you partitioned this disk for the Windows XP installation, or is this an 8MB OEM partition that you've somehow assigned drive letter C: to?
I wouldn't be surprised at all that your error message is being generated because thsi "BOOT" partition, labelled as drive C:, is only 8MB in size, and you can be absolutely positive that an 8MB partition is going to generate this error: "Setup was unable to use existing system partition because it does not contain the required free space."
The correct answer really depends on whether that drive C: is the boot (sic) (the proper terminology is to call it the system partition) partition for the Windows XP installation. If it is, then you're going to have some repair work to do on your Windows XP installation first, so that you can free up that 8MB partition.
In any event, I'm fairly certain that the solution is going to require the removal of that 8MB partition, as you've suggested in your most recent post.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate isn't installing on my iMac. Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition

I have a 21.5" iMac (Late 2012) running OS X Mavericks. I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp but whenever i get to the setup part it goes wrong
These are the steps I followed
I selected all the options since I didn't have the drivers or an install disk
it copied the Windows 7 iso image, downloaded the support software, and saved the support software to the flash drive (8GB)
    I selected a partition size - I gave windows roughly 100GB
    and I let it install
Right now I'm at the part where it says " where do you want to install windows? I selected the bootcamp partition and formatted it. It now says
"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information"
    WHAT DO I DO?

I had to read the apple instructions several times before they started to make sense.  I burned my iso onto a DVD and had the required USB for support software.  Are you trying to use the single USB method?
This article has a lot of info on the single usb method

  • Boot Camp - Setup was unable to create a new system partition....from Windows install

Hi folks.  So I ran the boot camp wizard and made a USB install key for windows from that.  I boot to it and everything works until I get to the install.  I format the Boot Camp partition as indicated in the walkthrough and then I get "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.  See the Setup log files for more information." from the Windows installer.  What do I do?   Thanks.

just to add to the mix. . . i just got a new macbook retina.
Originally used a USB flash drive. Hit the same barrier described here.
Spent a few hours with drive unplugging / replugging silliness. No progress. Went back into OSX to attempt using an external DVD drive. There is no option for that in Bootcamp assistant now - must use USB.
Grabbed a different USB stick and started again. This time I used the other USB port on the macbook (the one on the left). Everything worked fine this time!?
You still have to go into "advanced options" and hit "format" when you get to the partition screen.
Moral of the story: different stick, different port. Sounds random. If that doesn't work, try changing your socks and putting on a hat.
    Good luck!

  • Windows 7 Setup was unable to create a new system partition

I had windows 7 ultimate installed on a raid striping configuration and one of the hard drives crashed.  I bought a new hard drive (WD Caviar Black 1TB) and when I went to reinstall windows 7, I got an error message saying Setup was unable to create
a new system partition blah blah blah.  I did a lot of searching around for an answer, wondering if 1TB was too big of a hard drive to do a fresh install on, whether it was formated correctly, etc...
What I eventually found to be the solution was to go into the BIOS and change a setting.  Somehow when my old hard drive crashed, the boot priority for hard drives automatically changed so that the first boot priority was one of my external hard drives.
After I changed the boot priority so that the first priority was the hard drive I wanted to install windows 7 on, the installation went smoothly.  I think that's why other people had success after removing all external hard drives.  After a
couple of reboots the boot priority most likely automatically updated to reflect which hard drives were actually connected.
Anyway, I had a hard time finding this answer, it was frustrating beyond all belief, and I wanted to make it easily available in case it helps anybody else out in the future.

  • Bootcamp windows 7 setup was unable to create a new system partition

I've been trying to load Win 7 sp1 64 for a week.  Tried 4 versions, all 64b, made a new USB drive each time, I always get stuck in the same place:
"setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate existing system partition". I've tried everything, read MANY forums.
I read format in set-up many times, but it matters not!  HELP!

Restart your machine and do a pram reset (google)
Open disk utility and repair permissions twice, also you should only have 1 partition
Then try boot camp assistant again
If this doesn't work, you'll need to either clean install OSX or have a terminal disk wizard from here try and help

    Hi,
Quote: setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
It can be caused by corrupt partition table.
Boot from Windows installation media, press Shift + F10 at setup screen, and run chkdsk command to fix drive error.

  • Boot Camp - Setup was unable to create a new system partition

I'm getting this problem installing windows 7 via bootcamp on the macbook pro retina 13 using an usb  drive. I looked up solutions online, and they involved unplugging other usb ports or moving the usb drive from one port to the other. I don't have any other usb drives connected when doing the windows installation, and I tried moving the usb drive with windows setup from one port to the other, but I'm still getting this error message. Are there any other solutions to the problem? Do I have a problem with the USB drive?

    Hi Pharotek,
I had the same issue, trying to install Windows 7 on my new iMac yesterday and this morning. I couldn't ever get it to work in any configuration of usb port plugging but I read a lot of those suggestions too. Ultimately, I borrowed an external dvd drive and burned the Windows 7 iso to a dvd. Booting from the external dvd did the trick. To summarize, so hopefully I help others with this terribly-frustrating problem:
Use the Bootcamp Assistant to remove any half-finished windows partition (that should be checking the last checkbox only, to "remove").
Plug in an external dvd drive with a Windows 7 install disk. (Use the Disk Utility to burn the ISO to the DVD if needed.)
Plug in a USB thumb drive, which we will use to hold the Apple support files.Because order seems to matter, on my iMac with 4 usb ports at the back, facing the back of the iMac from right to left I had: external DVD drive, thumb drive, blank, apple keyboard w/ non-apple mouse plugged into keyboard.
    Use Bootcamp Assistant:
uncheck option one (we don't need to copy the iso to the thumb drive, since we're using dvd)
check option two (we do want to copy the support files to the thumb drive)
check option three (we do want to install Windows! )
During the install process, if you've been booting from USB thumb drive, you'll likely get a message about making the thumb not bootable. Yes, we want to make the USB thumb drive not bootable now, as we are booting from the DVD and just using the thumb for support files.
Now the installation should work. Select the bootcamp partition, choose advanced, choose to format the BOOTCAMP partition as usual.
    Dance around the office (optional.)
I believe the core issue is a unhappy melding of USB 3.0 issues and having a bootable USB thumb drive be the source of installation.
My external DVD drive was an Apple USB SuperDrive.

    Hello,
Do you just want to delete the Ubuntu partition?  If so, you may be able to do by booting from the Microsoft Windows 7 installation disc, pressing Shift+F10 to get to a Command Prompt, and then using the DISKPART.EXE program to erase the hard disk drive.

  • How to create a new System Data

    Hi guys.
I need to create a new System Data with which to filter a list output using a field derivated from siebel marketing. This data isn't between the standard system data like CampaingCode, SegmentId .....
Now i discover one .XML file (someting like Marketing....xml), in the OracleBIData/web/config directory, in which there are defined all the standard System data like:
    <WebExpression>
    </WebExpression>
Can I try to modify this file and add a new system data? if the answere is YES, hao i can do this? My real problem is how take a system value, from siebel marketing, to assign at this new systme data.
    Thanks in advance
    Best reguards

    Hi
    thanks for your solution,
i created a new Data carrier type AC for viewing auto cad files and given the path as, C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2006\acad.exe"
and at Define serveres and files or folders,
defined the data carrier as Autocad type was default as AC,
at Identify frontend computers i could not enter any thing it is only in display form and no values were there and niether could be entered.
and my datacarrier created is not there to be selected while creating documents.
    through CV01N create documents.
i suppose this is because i have already defaulted PC as the data carrier type. default system as my data carrier.
please clarify my Below douts also
as in my configuration i have defined only one Datacarrier ie Default PC, will this do all the need full, or will lead to to any complication in any aspect,
i want to know what is the Advantages of defining many datacarriers or the Limitation of a single Datacarrier.
iam facing a situation where a particular software say PDF reader or AutoCAD, is not installed in all the System. and iam thinking of installing this Software in a particular System or say in the Content Server system.
can this software be made used to view these cad and Pdf files on the front end system where this software is not installed,
Say in a particular PC the software AutoCAD is not installed and if he wants to View the AutoCAD file,
    another problem iam facing is
while Creating a New AutoCAD file in my system through DMS Create, it gives a message "Drawing file is not Valid"
while i can create a Word Doc File, but it is not possible to create a new AutoCAD file throuh DMS, (AutoCAD is Installed in my system)
also i have no idea of how to create a New Data carrier type,
what exactly have to be filled in
    1, define data carrier type
2, define server and files or folder
    3, identify frontend computers
please provide configuration details or if possible screen shot details
points will be awarded for sure.

  • Create a new system problem???

    Hi
I'm working with SAP 2007 and the B1i that comes with it.
I have created a new system in the console under landscape. Then I go to it to edit the details. When I save what I have edited it does nothing and gives an error at the bottom left. It shows the yellow triangle and says error next to it.
What is wrong?? How do I resolve this???

    Hi Louis,
What does that error says? I think I had a similar problem... and after reading some javascript in the page came up that I forgot to install MSXML 4.0. After that it worked.
    HTH,
    Ian
PS. The message was an automatation error or something like that, when making an instance of a XML.

  • Audio cd burn from 11.1 not playing on old version of iTunes on another MAC. error message was cd created on newer version of iTunes.  If the disk was a audio cd it should not matter the iTunes version.

The error message was cd created on newer version of iTunes.  If the disk was a audio cd it should not matter the iTunes version. I converted all songs on playlist to MP3 and then selected burn playlist and checked audio cd. This worked in itunes 11.0.5. Also itunes 11.1 will not accept the second disk on a cd audio burn. It just keeps telling me to insert a blank disk, no matter how many blank disks are inserted

I think that the operating system is 10.4.11 and iTunes isn't responding to this operating system. I cannot upgrade the operating system to a version any later than what it is as I think it would then go to Tiger.
10.4 is Tiger, and 10.4.11 supports the latest version of iTunes and QuickTime. So either the system isn't at 10.4.11 - your original post said 10.4.1 - or there's something wrong with the system in which case earlier versions of iTunes/QuickTime might well also fail to install.
Please confirm the version of Mac OS X that really is on the system and we'll go from there.
