Shape of textframe indesign

hi
i develop an indesign extension with CS extension builder 2 and flashbuilder 4.6.
how to retrieve the shape (rectangle, oval, polygon...) of a textframe, i don't find any properties in textframe class ?
thanks
Simon

You need to examine the path to figure out the shape.
You might be able to infer the shape by duplicating the text frame and changing the content type to unassigned and then checking the class name...

    hi
    i use cs ext builder 2 and i develop an indesign extension.
    do u know how to retrieve the structure of a textframe (paragraphe > paragraphe > table....) content. i want to know where is a table in a textframe...
    thanks
    Simon

    If you want to get a collection of all tables which starts in a text frame you'd do something like this: myTextFrame.tables. However, this will not find tables continued from a previous text frame. For that you need to work backwards and infer it from the textframes the table occupies (assuming there is one).

  • [Forum FAQ] How to find and replace text strings in the shapes in Excel using Windows PowerShell

    Windows PowerShell is a powerful command tool and we can use it for management and operations. In this article we introduce the detailed steps to use Windows PowerShell to find and replace test string in the
    shapes in Excel Object.
    Since the Excel.Application
    is available for representing the entire Microsoft Excel application, we can invoke the relevant Properties and Methods to help us to
    interact with Excel document.
    The figure below is an excel file:
    Figure 1.
    You can use the PowerShell script below to list the text in the shapes and replace the text string to “text”:
    $text = “text1”,”text2”,”text3”,”text3”
    $Excel
    = New-Object -ComObject Excel.Application
    $Excel.visible = $true
    $Workbook
    = $Excel.workbooks.open("d:\shape.xlsx")
    #Open the excel file
    $Worksheet
    = $Workbook.Worksheets.Item("shapes")
    #Open the worksheet named "shapes"
    $shape = $Worksheet.Shapes
    # Get all the shapes
    $i=0
    # This number is used to replace the text in sequence as the variable “$text”
    Foreach ($sh in $shape){
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text
    # Get the textbox in the shape
    $sh.TextFrame.Characters().text =
    $text[$i++]
    #Change the value of the textbox in the shape one by one
    $WorkBook.Save()
    #Save workbook in excel
    $WorkBook.Close()
    #Close workbook in excel
    [void]$excel.quit()
    #Quit Excel
    Before invoking the methods and properties, we can use the cmdlet “Get-Member” to list the available methods.
    Besides, we can also find the documents about these methods and properties in MSDN:
    Workbook.Worksheets Property (Excel):
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff835542(v=office.15).aspx
    Worksheet.Shapes Property:

    Thank you for the information, but does this thread really need to be stuck to the top of the forum?
    If there must be a sticky, I'd rather see a link to a page on the wiki that has links to all of these ForumFAQ posts.
    EDIT: I see this is no longer stuck to the top of the forum, thank you.

  • How to knock out the shape of a placed object

    This is a montage of approximately 250 small images in ID CS5. Each photo is a separate object. I would like to knock out the shape of the dog in silhouette to reveal the background layer, which is underneath the small images and can't be seen in this picture. Then I would like to add a drop shadow to give the background layer some depth.
    I know how to do this with either text or a shape created in InDesign, but I'm having trouble getting it to work for a placed object. I've tried using the silhouette as an EPS, AI and PSD but can't figure it out.

    Draw a large frame to cover the page. Place the dog over that and use the
    pathfinder panel to cut the dog out of the frame. Now group the little
    images and cut them to the clipboard. Paste into the frame with the cutout.

  • Colors of imported illustrator files don't match indesign colors

    I'll be honest: I'm likely missing something really basic. This is really frustrating, though.
    The simple version: when I drag an Illustrator file into my InDesign document, its colors don't match the colors of shapes in the InDesign document drawn with the same color values.
    The long version:
    I'm working on a resume document. I've created a logo in Illustrator - the document is in CMYK color mode and uses SWOP v2 color space. I've dragged the file into InDesign, where I have some basic geometric shapes that intersect the logo. The InDesign document is also set to CMYK and is using the SWOP v2 color space. I've noticed, however, that the colors of my logo (which, again, was imported from Illustrator) do not match the colors of shapes drawn natively in InDesign even when their hexadecimal color values are identical. To further this point. I created a shape in InDesign with color #86c8cf. I then copied the value #86c8cf into Illustrator and drew a shape using that color. I imported that Illustrator shape into InDesign and placed the Illustrator Shape and the native InDesign shapes side by side. I even exported to PDF and pulled it up in preview to proof it. The colors, while very similar, are NOT the same color.
    Am I missing something really obvious? Or are these two programs not at all working together like they're always said to do so well?

    Dunno why. Which versions of ID/AI? Not that it should matter, I get the same results with CS6 and CC2014.
    One square in ID is native, the other from a placed AI file--though drag and drop are the same results.
    Acrobat, hovering over one square...
    And over the other square...
    I used your hex values in Illy, used Illy's CMYK values in ID.

  • Resizing images in InDesign

    When I take a Vector image from Illustrator and drop it into InDesign, and then go to shrink the image down, I get this message: Requested value is not a legal dimension.

    I just got this error (and found this post by searching google), when creating a little, simple (fewer than 20 points) vector shape directly within InDesign (CS5.5, Mac) using the Pen tool.
    I created the shape, and then tried to shrink it down ~50% to fit into the space I'm needing it to fit inside. At first, it did something I've never seen before: I clicked the corner, held down Shift to lock the aspect, and then started to drag. The preview outline box shows me what I expect (an outline getting smaller), but when I let go, the shape returns back to the previous size and location.
    Feeling confused and frustrated by this, I then tried to use the actual "size" dialogs within the quick toolbar or whatever that contextual thing on top is called. That's when I get the "Requested value is not a legal dimension" error. I looked at my shape very closely, and there is nothing special about it at all. The shape itself is over 2 inches wide, composed of two separate lines. I need it to be just over 1 inch wide. Strangely, when I turn it into a compound path, the error goes away. It doesn't look like the excuse given for this behavior in this thread really holds up under testing.

  • Gradients from Illustrator file showing up wrong in InDesign

    I'm building a booklet for an organization I volunteer for. The organization has a bunch of brand documents, with many of them being Illustrator files. Their brand uses asymmetrical shapes with gradients. However, when I try to copy over these individual shapes into my InDesign file, the gradients completely change.
    This:
    Becomes this:
    Any thoughts on what the problem might be?
    Thanks!
    Adam

    The only issue with placing the original AI file is that I need to be able to individually manipulate the shapes. The originally document has about five or six shapes all in one arrangement, but I'm using them throughout an eight-page booklet, so I need to lay them out differently on different pages.

  • Is there a way to avoid transparency artifacts on pdf files

    Hey everyone I'm running into a bit of a problem with indesign, I'm designing a digital magazine and I'm wanting to combine imported photos with vector shapes created in indesign, I'm using one of the vector shapes and overlaying it on a segment of a photo, however if I export the document as a pdf both the photo as well as the vector shape have while streaks around their edges, apparently this is a common artifact when using transparencies in indesign, being that the destination of my document is meant for digital and not print, is there anyway to not have this artifact occur? Or can you just not use transparencies when doing digital publishing whithout these white lines occuring?

    Exporting live transparency (PDF/X-4) would avoid the flattening artifacts, but not all PDF readers handle live transparency correctly, and there's no color management on many mobile devices (iOS), so if the final destination is a PDF you want flattened sRGB.
    Try making an all raster flattener preset and use it on export. Something like this where the Raster/Vector Balance is all rasters:

  • Adding Hyperlinks to text on a Summary Sheet in Powerpoint

    Hi
    I have a slide show that features No buttons, for questions 1- 10, If a user clicks a No button it prints a row of text with help for that particular topic.
    Im using vba to generate the wording and code for the summary page, see below
    Code for the No button is below
    Sub No1(button As Shape)
    If button.Fill.ForeColor.RGB <> RGB(128, 100, 162) Then
    button.Fill.ForeColor.RGB = RGB(128, 100, 162)
    Else
    button.Fill.ForeColor.RGB = RGB(255, 255, 255) ' default white colour
            End If
            q1Answered = False
            If q1Answered = False Then
            numIncorrect = numIncorrect + 1
            answer1 = "1. Answer to question 1 - Click Here for Further Help" & vbCr 'ADDED
            End If
    End Sub
    Code for the summary page is below
    Sub SummarySlide1() 'Summary Page for Create ADDED
        Dim printableSlide As Slide
        Dim homeButton As Shape
        Dim printButton As Shape
        Set printableSlide = _
        ActivePresentation.Slides.Add(Index:=summarySlideNumber1, _
    Layout:=ppLayoutText)
        printableSlide.Shapes(1).TextFrame.TextRange.Font.Size = 9
        printableSlide.Shapes(1).TextFrame.TextRange.Text = _
        vbCr & vbCr & vbCr & userName & _
        vbCr & "The following areas have been highlighted as one(s) which need development"
        printableSlide.Shapes(2).TextFrame.TextRange.Font.Size = 8.5
        printableSlide.Shapes(2).TextFrame.TextRange.Text = _
            answer1 & vbCr & answer2 & vbCr & answer3 & vbCr & answer4 & vbCr & answer5 & vbCr & _
            answer6 & vbCr & answer7 & vbCr & vbCr & answer8
            ActivePresentation.SlideShowWindow.View.GotoSlide 40
            MsgBox " Please Remember to Print Your Results before you leave this Page "
        ActivePresentation.Saved = True
    End Sub
    So what you end up with on the summary sheet is all the NO's the user has clicked
    for example
    1. Answer to question 1 - Click Here for Further Help
    What i'd like to do is turn the click here part in this text into a hyperlink to another web page
    Is there a way to do this using vba?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Jinks

    Hi Jinks,
    For this requirement, you could add a textbox with text: Click here, then use
    Hyperlink Object to add click action.
    With ActivePresentation.Slides(1).Shapes(3) _
    .ActionSettings(ppMouseClick)
    .Action = ppActionHyperlink
    .Hyperlink.Address = "http://www.microsoft.com"
    End With

  • Images not appearing in exported PDF

    I've created a document in InDesign CS5. When i export for PDF some images don't appear in the PDF. The images are either imported JPGs or shapes created in InDesign. Most of the images appear just some don't. I'm not aware of doing anything different in creating/importing these images.
    Has anyone experienced this problem? Can anyone help me out?

    That didn't work, but i copied images from other parts of my document that did work and pasted/resized to replace images that didn't import and that seemed to work.
    still wish i could figure out why it happens in the first place so i don't have to do this other process.

  • Hyperlinks in ID

    Hi,
    I work with ID sc5.5, and I'm trying to add a hyperlink to a file.
    The objective is a pdf presentation that would include links to mp4 clips.
    I've created a shape in the inDesign document and used the "window>interactive>Hyperlink" to link it to a specific mp4 clip. I then exported to pdf and made sure that the pdf file and the clip are in the same folder.
    However, when someone else trys to view the pdf the link is not working.
    Is there anyway to "embed" the mp4 clip to the inDeseign document?
    Is there a smarter way to add movies to a pdf presenttion?
    thanks!

    I did. And I am able to view the clip on my computer, but when someone else opens the file the link is still my computer...

  • Are there any plans to work on the follow features?

    Muse is an awesome program but it leaves a lot to be desired.
    I primarily use muse for prototyping user testing flows and presentations.
    Here are a list of things I really wish Muse offered:
    The ability to copy and past from other adobe programs with out adding a black background
    A basic shape tool like indesign offers
    A pen tool
    The ability to format text with bullet points
    Glyphs pallet
    Ability to edit and add the html Muse creates. I am looking for an efficient way to add interaction and things on the site without creating widgets.Maybe you can create an extension to Muse the widget creation seems exhausting.
    The ability to PRINT would be awesome!!! I would like to print both the design (sitemaps) plans and the designs themselves.
    If you added the print and drawing tools you would make my life 10x easier.
    Thanks!
    Vinny

    My 7 cents:
    1. Many Adobe programs can do so much more with imagery than the web would easily understand (or compress). So for now, it's better to let web tools require you to think about what you're trying to move to a web design, and use a file preferably. (Note: Adobe Edge Animate is the first application supporting Copy/Paste from Illustrator, by automatically converting PostScript vectors into SVG vectors. A first, and quite an important step for Adobe.)
    2. and 3. When Canvas and/or SVG techniques become wide-spread and well-implemented features in most browsers, software like Muse or Edge Animate might consider offering basic drawing tools for simple shapes. But that's not happening very soon, I'm afraid. And when it happens, users will immediately test and use it beyond its limitations, and start legitimately requesting for even more options (like your point 3). So: don't hold your breath for it...
    4. and 5. Presto, Bingo, Boom ! Download the newest version (CC 2014.1) and be pleasantly surprised
    Oops, wait - Glyphs are called the Characters palette, and it doesn't offer OpenType features like alternate glyphs (the web doesn't support that). But at least it's damn easy now to pick a special character (or ornament) from a font.
    6. You can add chunks of HTML to a page (simply Paste or use Object - Insert HTML), and tweak the HTML Head and all in the Site Settings or Page Settings. (Beware: Muse might render inserted HTML objects a bit awkward – always judge a true web preview.) Editing Muse's own HTML is possible (simply open up the html files from the exported folder), but it will always be a one-way direction, and you'll loose the option of using BC as an easy host to Publish to.
    7. Fair enough, printing the Overview and Designs ! I use screen dumps of the windows (on a Mac: Cmd-Shift-3, or 4 with hitting the Spacebar to select window). But it would be nice to have a command and some good-old-fashioned PDF thing...
    Cheers to Muse 2014.1 !
