Shared server trace file

Hi All,
Our production db is 10.2.0.3 with 2 nodes RAC in MS 2003 window servers. I am wondering what kind of information that Oracle capture in the shared server trace file (file name looks like instance_s001_3333.trc) . When I open some of these files I always see one query always there along with the messages like:
WAIT #8: nam='gc cr block 2-way' ela= 1222 p1=65 p2=49677 p3=1 obj#=69689 tim=4137263779
WAIT #8: nam='gc cr block 2-way' ela= 593 p1=65 p2=50863 p3=1 obj#=69689 tim=4137265531
WAIT #8: nam='gc cr block 2-way' ela= 592 p1=65 p2=50879 p3=1 obj#=69689 tim=4137266700
Should we need to tune this query to make it disappear in the shared server trace files? What are the conditions to trigger Oracle put this query into trace file?
Thank you very much in advance for your support!
Shirley

These trace files are very likely generated by some trace statements originating from client programs connected to shared server processes such as client application processes, SQL*Plus, SQL Developer, OEM, TOAD, etc.
Is your client application instrumented ?
Do some people analyze performance problems on the database side ?
The triggering statements may be some ALTER SESSION statements or package calls like DBMS_MONITOR in 10g or other
(see examples in http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/04-jan/o14tech_perf.html).
You should also check that instances are not configured with instance level tracing:
show parameter sql_traceYou can also check current database sessions sql tracing status with:
select sid, serial, program, sql_trace from v$session where username is not null;

  • Unable to generate SQL trace file in shared mode ??

    Hello,
I have a 10.2.0.1.0 database on Win2003 server 64 bits, with several instances.
On instances in dedicated mode, I can create trace files by using dbms_system.set_sql_trace_in_session, but on instances in shared mode nothing happens : no file is created in the udump directory.
This doesn't make any sense to me o_O
The shared parameters are the following :
    dispatchers=(protocol=TCP)
    shared_servers=1
I've checked all the necessary parameters to create a trace file (user_dump_dest, timed_statistics, max_dump_file_size...) and everything is fine.
I really don't understand why I can't create trace files when the instance is in shared mdoe...
Can anyone help about this weird issue ?
    thank you !
    regards,
    Antoine

Remember also that in Shared Server mode the trace information is not written to a single file but is written to the Shared Server trace file. Before Oracle 10g there was no way to pull all the trace information for a single user session together out of the trace files. There is a tool for doing so with 10g.

  • Where is the Application Sharing defaulttrace.trc file located?

    Hi,
In a help document it says this:
    a.      Set the Application Sharing Server trace file (defaultTrace.trc) to severity info and try to start a new session.
but where is the Application Sharing file located? or it means the J2EE defaultTrace file?
    Thanx in Advanced!
    Kind Regards,
    Gerardo J

    Hi Gerardo,
Collaboration uses the logging mechanisms of the J2EE Engine. Therefore it is the defaultTrace.trc  under .../usr/sap/<SID>/Jxx/j2ee/cluster/serverX/log/ .

  • How to trace a module that uses shared server sessions?

I have an app (Esri's ArcGIS Server 9.3.1) that I want to trace. Oracle is at 11.2.0.2.0. Our OEM is is at 10.2.0.4.0.
When I initiate a trace for the module (ArcSOC.exe) in OEM, I can see a trace file start to grow larger. But it seems to be a trace file that already exists (example: <instance>s00022493.trc). To isolate activity to just the duration of time I'm interested in, I'd like to start with a fresh trace file. Is there any way to do that? Must I delete currently active trace files or would that cause a failure?
When tracing a dedicated server session, I've noticed that a new trace file will be generated with "ora" in its name. Evidently not so with shared server stuff, whether it's tracing a module or a particular session. When the shared server model is used, it seems Oracle wants to reuse existing trace files. And since trace files an get quite large, it would be difficult to open the trace file in an editor and remove the pre-existing, older activity that I don't want to work with.

See http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/SQLTrace10046TrcsessAndTkprof10g.php for various ways. Delete the trace file before you begin. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/sqltrace.htm#i20110

  • On 10.9 - I can no longer open, copy or preview files on a shared server

I am on a 2007 iMAC and I connect to a shared server in our office. I just upgraded to 10.9 and am experiencing a number of problems:
    - When trying to open files through finder I get the notification "Application not found"
    - When trying to copy to/from server I get error mssages 43 or 8058
    - Can't drag files into applications shown in dock
    - Vectorworks 2010 not working at all
If I open an application and use File/Open and select files from the server they open fine, but I need to be able to use finder & preview...
I think the above issues might have something to do with permissions?
    Please help

I've had the same issues. For me, trashing the permissions didn't resolve anything. The only work-around I've found is force quitting/relaunching the Finder. I have to do it every day, sometimes twice, but at least I can drag, copy and double click on files to launch an app.
    Hope that helps.

  • File sharing in the File server preference pane

System preferences to File Server to File sharing. When I choose a share point folder and want to change permissions, I click the radio button to restrict access to certain users and save. When I re-enter the the folder it defaults back to let everybody have access. If I try to delete the folder it won't delete. When I create a new folder by re-choosing the folder, I get <folder Name>1 and then I cannot delete it. Is there a plist in preferences I can delete to clear this problem?

    Hello Peter,
    Thanks for your answer.
There must be something wrong in the different steps I follow.
Firts I set Time machine on the server for each user, shoosing the Volume "SmartStor" (a network volume attached on the Mac Mini server) it creates a "Shared items" folder with a "Backups" folder in.
In Server Admin tools I can see in the AFP services the share point /Backups
In Workgroup Manager I set the Time Machine's preferences for the different computers and computers' group with the path afp://myserver.local/Backups/
At least on my client's computer I can shoose the volume "Backups" "on my server".
And it doesn't work... even with all the logins and password, User's, Dir Admin and Server Admin.
With User's and Dir Admin it runs quickly and tells "the volume is not reachable on account of wrong user's name or password"
With Server Admin login and password it runs indefinitly, nothing occurs ...
Is there something to do in terminal ?
Well I tried to find explanations on the web but I found nothing for the moment... The informations are to set a network volume in Terminal in place of the default one...
'Hope to find soon, I can't stand that something runs for every one but not with me...

  • How to set up a basic file sharing server for my small architectural business?

I have no idea if I have posted in the correct area as this is my first forum post within the apple support community!
I have been using a 21.5" imac running 10.6.8 for the past 5 years to run my small home based architectural design business. I have been using the internal hard drive & backing up the necessary data to a simple usb external hard drive. I am now looking to firstly purchase a new imac 27" retina and purchase new autocad lt 2015 for mac software. I am looking to have another imac (my old mac) running in conjunction with the new mac. I want both macs to be able to access the same data and am slightly unsure what is the best way to achieve this.....As my old mac is currently only running snow leopard and an old version of autocad for mac 2011 it wont run on any more recent OS. Essentially i believe I have 2 main options with this.... (1) I Accept that I have to purchase 2 no. autocad lt 2015 licences @ a cost of £2300. Or option (2), I only run autocad on the new mac as this will be the primary station and the old mac used for primarily for admin & accounts. I have also recently discovered that it is possible to rent autocad licences for £300p/a which may also be another option (3)!
I previously had a problem where my hard drive failed on my mac & lost all data on the internal hard drive, luckily I had been backing up all data regularly to my external hard drive and now loss occurred! Obviously with any new system I want to ensure that my data is safe!
I currently utilise about 250GB of data for business operations but this will obviously grow with time.
In the future I would like to have the option of potentially being able to access the network data remotely via macbook pro whilst abroad although at this stage this really isnt my primary objective. Although I believe I could achieve this through apple remote desktop.
I suppose I should provide some information with regard to the required speed of the system...I regularly open 50-100 photos at the same time totalling around 250-500MB. I would like the system to be able to handle this fairly easily.
I have been trawling through forums and to be honest they are totally confusing me. I have also spent time on the phone to the apple business team and have also discussed my objectives with a member of the apple team in store.
There have been various options advised to me and I really do not know which is the most appropriate route forward.
1 - Using a mac mini as the file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the mac mini to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
2 - Using a time capsule as a file server and linking the 2 mac devices to this and backing up the TC to an external hard drive to ensure no loss of data.
3 - Using the new mac hard drive and linking the 2 macs via thunderbolt (old mac does not have thunderbolt and so I guess I would need another new mac?!) and then backing up the data to a time capsule.
4 - Using a RAID based server and linking the 2 no. macs.
Sorry to ramble but any advice really would be greatly received!

    Hi sblemings,
    Welcome to the community.
I think with your scenario you should ask yourself, how complicated do you want the setup to be and how much time would you have to be able to resolve an issue should one occur with this setup.
All the options that have been advised would work but they come with complexity and therefore time.
4 - Using a RAID based server and linking the 2 no. macs.
Sorry to ramble but any advice really would be greatly received!
    option 1
Would be a way to achieve what you want, it would centralise your files and you would only need to backup your file server (as long as all the files you wanted backed up were on it). This could be achieved either using the client and sharing various folders or using Server which would give you more options than you would possibly need.
    option 2
This is exactly like option 1 except that you wouldn't have to administer another mac however you may limit any future growth.
    option 3
This option I probably wouldn't pick, you could achieve this with firewire and use a firewire to thunderbolt adapter (saves you having to buy a new iMac)
    option 4
This option would, depending on your RAID level, give you disk redundancy but remember you would still need to back this up, as RAID is NOT a backup solution.
I would also ask is there a pressing need to keep the old iMac in service and complicating things by having a server / NAS? Could you not just transfer all your information over to this and continue with the one backup? I would say that doing it this was would be the simplest way of achieving what you want from what I can take from your question.
As for remotely accessing your data, if you have the right hardware the way to achieve this would be to use a VPN and connect back to your data. However a potentially easier way for you ,would be to use a service like logmein or teamviewer to connect back.
Hope this helps, and by all means any questions please ask.

  • SQL Developer generates strange trace files on server

    Hello out there,
I observed the generation of some strange trace files on the database server (Oracle 11.0.2.0.2 64bit on Win 2008R2).
Whenever I start SQL Developer (3.2.20.09.87 64bit with JDK 1.7.0_17 64bit on Win7 64bit) for each connection I defined one trace file like this is generated:

On other servers, similar trace files are generated, one for each connection in my SQL Developer.
This also occurred with JDK 1.6 so I don't think it's a Java issue.
Besides the generation of the trace files there seem to be no other problems.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I think Srini is probably correct. The noted bug applies to 11.2.0.1 and up, is fixed in 12c, and included in an 11.2.0.3 patch. However the version of SQL Developer also affects the creation of trace files on product startup (prior to any user initiated db connect attempts).
    For example,
    A. SQL Developer 3.1.07.42 - no such trace files created.
    B. SQL Developer 3.2.20.09.87 - such trace files created for 11.2.0.1 connections, but not 10g XE or 12c connections.
So I presume an OCIServerAttach call got added in 3.2.2, not sure in support of which feature, but the bug will only impact users of 11.2.0.1, 11.2.0.2, and unpatched 11.2.0.3 DB releases.

  • Report Server Generating big size trace file

We are using Report Service which is part of 9iAS suite. Its generating a trace file (server name.trc). This file keeps growing and depending on the number of requests we receive sometimes its size goes in Giga bytes. Anybody knows why its doing that and how to get rid of this behavior ?

Tracing is useful for troubleshooting purposes. If you do not need tracing please open the file
    $OH\reports\conf\server_name.conf
and comment the "trace" element. You will need to restart the server for this to take effect

  • Trace file having ??? for report server's engine

I'm facing problem regarding the font for trace file of report engine. Trace is showing ??? like the following. Can anybody help me how to change the language for the the trace only.
    Error 50103 (C Engine): ERR REP-0501: ??? ???? ??? ????? ?????? ???????? ???????
    ORA-24323: value not allowed
We have nls_language=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 in system registry as our application requires it. If it is due to the nls setting then why half of msg is in english.
    Regards

Slow running reports often are not the result of a flawed report, but rather a flawed configuration. For example:
    1. If you call your reports (from Forms) via the default or inProcess Reports Server, often because startup time is slow, it will appear that it took too long for the report to be delievered. Using a stand-alone Rep Server is the preferred way to do this.
    2. If your Forms application makes numerous calls to RRO (RUN_REPORT_OBJECT), this can tend to result in what might appear as a memory leak (although it is not). The result is delayed processing because of the excessive memory use. This problem has been overcome in Forms/Reports 11 by the use of JVM pooling. However in v10 enabling "6i compatibility" mode is the way to overcome the issue. See Note 266073.1
    3. If the report runs fine from the Builder and it is connecting to the same db as when you run it from App Server, the issue is unlikely a db problem. However, if you want to look anyway, enable sqlnet tracing.
    4. To enable Reports tracing and investigate other tuning options, refer to the Reports 10 documentation:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_tune.htm
Almost forgot to mentioned this one....
If you are using a v11 db with App Server 10, you will probably want to consider reviewing Note 1099035.1 as it discusses an issue related to performance with such a configuration.

  • Server Admin - File Sharing - Show "invisibles"

Leopard Server, v10.5.7 - Server Admin, File Sharing: Would like to be able to see system directories (such as /var, /bin, /private) in the Volumes::Browse window. I find it odd that "mach_kernel.ctfsys" =is= visible but other system files and folders are not. Is there any way to increase the verbosity of the Volumes::Browse window?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for your reply.
We were toying with the idea of giving a few admins remote access to /etc/ and/or /dev/ without them having to access via ssh. Not a very big deal.
