Shared workbook in excel 2010

I have a shared workbook with individual sheets for each project within the team. I need to review any changes they make to their sheets as this information is used elsewhere.
When there is a newproject, I need to copy the template. The problem is that when I try to copy the template all the formatting is lost. I can't unshare the workbook as there is nearly always someone using the workbook and they would not be able
to save their changes. Is there a work round for this problem?

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the shared Excel file will lost formatting after you copied them. Do you like to tell us how do you copy them? Which format did it lost?
Based on my tested, if I copied the content from shared file to a new file, it only changed the column width. Thus,
we could try the use "keep data formatting" when we paste the template, it'll keep the value and formatting.
If you only need the formatting without value/formal, we also could choose "Formatting only"

Tip: Please use the same Excel format when copy/paste, such as both XLSX.

  • Error message when opening a shared workbook with Excel 2007

    Hello,
We would like to share a workbook outside BW (by saving into a serveur).Since we use Excel 2007, we can't anymore open this workbook.
We have a message error (see bellow).
For your information, it was ok with Excel 2003.
When whe save the workbook in local disk and then copy from local disk
    to a serveur, it's ok.
    We use SAPGUI 7.10 support package 8, patch 1 Revision 1443 & BI 7.0.
    Best regards
    Nicolas Triqnuand

    hey Nicolas,
first of all, your error message is in French... not too many people out there will be able to understand. Eventhough I do understand French, it doesn't make much sense to me... BUT... in Excel2007 all macro's are by default disabled. When you enable them (you should get a "Security Warning" right under "the Ribbon"), your BI stuff should work again.
Just gave it a try, and it runs smoothly over here.
    Cheers,

  • Excel 2010 workbook crashing Excel 2013

We have someone who created a workbook in Excel 2010 and when we open it in Excel 2013 it will crash. You can open the doc and look at it, but once you start trying to do anything in it, after a random time period, it will crash. Also if you try to resave
the document it will crash every time, no matter how long you've been in the doc.
Is there any way we can track down what in the doc might be causing this? I've tried it on several different systems with excel 2013, a few of which have SP1 installed already and it does the same thing. Any suggestions?

    Hi Jcasteel,
Could you please give us more information about this workbook?
Any Macros or formulas in this file? Does this file have any links to other files? Try to move VBA code or links manually to narrow down this issue(You can change this workbook in excel 2010). If it contains multiple worksheets ,open them separately
    to address this issue.
In addition, have you ever try the general methods? e.g.
1.Open the workbook using the 'open and repair' feature(Start Excel->On the File menu-> click Open->In the Open dialog box, select the file that you want to open->Click the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair )
2.Start excel in Safe Mode(Press and hold the CTRL key, and then click the name of the Microsoft Office program that you want to run)
Also if it is convenient for you, you can share your workbook with us .

  • Excel 2010 - Hidden Dialogue Boxes

    Has anyone seen this before?
User creates a workbook in Excel 2010.
User clicks File | Save & Send | Send as Attachment.
User successfully emails the saved workbook to somebody.
From that point on, for that instance of Excel, dialogue boxes, prompts, warnings, etc., are hidden (e.g., File | Save As whether by menu or hitting F12, File | Open whether by menu or hitting CTL-O, or the user attempts to close out of it but Excel is
still prompting the user to save or not, etc.)  Because all these things have lost focus and are behind the Excel instance, the user assumes Excel has frozen, goes into Task Manager, kills the Excel process, curses under his breath about IT, etc.
    We are currently running:
    Windows 7 Ent, SP1, x64.
Office 2010 Pro Plus, x86 - specifically Excel 2010 (the above for example, does NOT happen on Word 2010).
We successfully reproduce this problem each time using the above sequence.  We are on the latest SPs, updates, hotfixes, for everything via WSUS.
We also disabled/removed any Add-ins and that did not make a difference.
For kicks while the above probably would've accomplished the same, we tried the above in Excel safe-mode and again, if you follow the above sequence, it keeps occuring.
    Help?
    Thanks!

    Oskar:
Thank you for the suggestion. I tried and thought it worked. There is one wrinkle that we didn't realize.
If we Save & Send, while Outlook is closed, the system will allow Outlook to have a new message created and allow us to send the email.  However once the send is complete, the Outlook process exits.  When we try to do something in Excel everything
    is FINE.
However, if Outlook is open and we repeat the process in Excel, then Excel exhibits the same behavior where after the message is sent, that particular instance will have all future windows, warnings, pop-ups, etc., remain hidden and out of focus.
    Help?

  • Excel 2010 cannot complete this task... Error in a shared spreeadsheet

    The layout
A server in an office connects 5 computers running windows 7 and using MS office plus 2010(32bit) and 1 computer running XP using MS office plus 2007(32bit), they are all 64bit OS's besides xp. They share many spreadsheets that are opened, edited and updated
simultaneously off the server. Since the spreadsheets need to be referred to each other, 2 up to 5 excel files must be opened on the computer I'm working on.
I'm working with a computer that has the following error during reading and writing to spreadsheets.
"Excel cannot complete this task with available resources choose less data or close Other applications"
This error occurs simply because excel has used up all the resources. However I'd like to avoid the simple "close redundant spreadsheets" because sooner or later they will need to be used.
The problem is that its only one computer that is having this problem all other computers don't get this error despite having equal amount of spreadsheets opened as the problematic computer. We've upgraded the ram and graphics card on that computer yet problem
persists. I'm aware of the 2gb ram access restriction office 32bit has.
The only solution I can think of would be to install a 64 it version of office on this computer set the default program that opens the file to the 64bit excel version (only for the problematic computer). Will cause errors? Seeing as other computers run 32bit
    office?
Does anyone know of any other ways of doing this? When the error occurs the file is locked and all data that is entered into the file after that is lost. Thanks in advanced

    Hi,
Do these five pcs have the same hardware?
As far as I know, the above memory error messages can be very generic and don't always identify the real cause of the issue. Please follow the KBs below, try the methods and check if they are helpful.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2779852
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2655178
Then, I agree with you, we can update the Excel to 64bit version. Because the max RAM usage of the Excel 2010 32bit version is 2 GB. Even if we add more physical memory, 32bit version won’t be able to use it.  I recommend you use Excel 64bit
version to open/edit the large workbook instead. The 64-bit version of Excel 2010 is not constrained to 2 GB of RAM usage like 32-bit applications does.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • Getting error while submitting data to excel workbook through excel services in InfoPath 2010

    Hi,
I have a requirement where in have to fetch the calculated values from the excel workbook through InfoPath 2010 form.
When I am submitting cell value to excel workbook using SetCellA1 by executing following action:
    "Submit using data connection: dataconnection"
I am unable to submit form. It is giving "there has been an error while processing the form" in the front end. I checked the event viewer and it displayed following exception:

  • SAPGUI 7.20 / Excel 2010 - Workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded

    Hi all:
    SAPGUI 7.20 SP 0
    Excel 2010
    BW 7.0
Queries run fine in Analyzer. No issues.
However, whenever we try to open a workbook saved in Excel 2007 we get this error "The workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded".
These workbooks are executed fine from any PC with Excel 2007, same SAPGUI version (7.20 SP 0).
Furthermore, if we open a query and save a workbook (now in Excel 2010) we get the same error "The workbook is corrupt and cannot be loaded".
    Basically, we can't open workbooks.
Since the only difference in both scenarios is Excel (same SAPGUI) I checked in some Microsoft forums and read something about incompatibilities in the new Visual Basic coding in Excel 2010 compared to 2007.
Other than that, nothing else so far.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Each WORKBOOK in separate windows Excel 2010 Windows 7

    Hi,
I read a lot of thread about this topic, and I begin to despair :)
    With this config : Excel 2010 / Windows 7
I found the solution to open 2 Workbooks in separate windows, but from explorer / desktop ONLY !
But from Excel (when a document is already opened), if I have an hyperlink in a spreadsheet that points on an other wordbook, when I click on the link, I would like to open it in a new instance of Excel.
Same about FILE => OPEN (I would like to open it in a new instance of Excel too, always in fact)
    Thank you.

Just an update to my above instructions:
I had an MS Office update pushed via my corporation and while I'm not going to try and determine which update caused the reversion, my Excel open commands reverted back to the default behavior.
    What happened:
    The (Default)  REG_SZ  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
    Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1" (specifically the /e "%1") reverted back
to the default ... /dde switch.
    The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\ddeexec
    was returned (remember,
    we renamed it).
    The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\ddeexec2
    key remained.
The same applies to the Sheet.8 keys:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open\command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open\ddeexec
    How
to revert Excel 2010 back to open workbooks in separate instances:
    Simply
change the Excel sheet.12 and sheet.8 open commands back to the /e "%1" switch and
delete the ddeexec keys, since we already renamed them once before and the renamed key remains.
    Detailed
    Instructions:
    Edit HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\command
    Before: (Default)  REG_SZ  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE" /dde
        and: command  REG_MULTI_SZ  xb'BV5!!!!!!!!!MKKSkEXCELFiles>VijqBof(Y8'w!FId1gLQ /dde
    to
    Change: (Default)  REG_SZ  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1"
        Delete (if exist): command
    REG_MULTI_SZ  xb'BV5!!!!!!!!!MKKSkEXCELFiles>VijqBof(Y8'w!FId1gLQ /dde
    then
        Delete (if exist): "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\ddeexec"
    then repeat the
    above steps on:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open\command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\shell\Open\ddeexec
This seems to "fix" what an update unfixed.

  • Cannot publish Excel workbook to Sharepoint 2010 : "You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location"

I am trying to save an Excel 2010 file to a Sahrepoint 2010 document library but keep getting the error:
"You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location"
Googling this suggests enabling "Desktop Experience" on the server which I have done. Excel Services Application is Started.
Has anyone come across this and been able to resolve successfully? I am wondering if this is more security related but the security set-up looks fine.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Hi Sally, thanks for the response.  Problem is the issue occurs with all users not just me.
On the server-side do you know if the full Office installation must exist for this to work?
The reason I think it may be security related in some way is that on another server we can access one site collection but not another.  The first site collection shows the various libraries available and the other gives the same error: "You
can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location".
It's proving to be very frustrating!
