SharePoint 2010 BCS

Hi,
I could not create an external content type in SharePoint designer. I want to fetch my SQL Server table into SP list. Here's my
Previous Post on the same topic w/o any success.
I m not sure if my BCS is corrupt altogether but want to test out every possibilities before I decide on anything.
When I click on External Content type from SPD, it says "The Business Data Connectivity Metadata Store is currently unavailable”
On central Admin-->Manage services on the server link-->Business Data Connectivity Service service has a status of Started, Managed metadata Web service also has a status of started.
On Central Admin-->Manage service Applications--> BDCS has status of Started. However when I click on anyone of the links below, I get error message(next screen)
I set customErrors mode="Off" still the same error. No change.
I used fiddler and it shows Error code 504 for the Url /_vti_bin/BDCAdminService.svc
Moreover, I went to IIS, tried to run the BDC service https and https, links below, I get error Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.
http://localhost:32843/db14041584e143a0b499761087d1d886
https://localhost:32844/db14041584e143a0b499761087d1d886
I m clueless on where to explore and what settings to look for to make it work. any help is greatly appreciated. I really want to make BCS work. Thanks all!

Hi,
I tried deleting the BDC service app however I didn't delete the database for the app. I recreated the BDC service app and configured my web application to have it as suggested in the 2nd link you posted.
I noticed few things:
1.) When I recreated the new BCS service app, and on manager service applications page: /_admin/ServiceApplications.aspx
When I click on my new BDC Service 71 ( which I created it just now), I still get the smae error posted in my post above.
Server Error in '/' Application.
I couldn't figure out what's causing this issue.
When I click on Managed Metadata service in _admin/ServiceApplications.aspx page, I get this error message:
The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or Managed Metadata Web Service may not have been started. Please Contact your Administrator.
The Service Application being requested does not have a Connection associated with the Central Administration web application. To access the term management tool use Site Settings from
a site configured with the appropriate Connection.
Looks like my Managed metadata service is also the issue.
After following all the instructions on recreating BCS and associating it with your web application, I still cannot create ECT in SPD. Same old error revisited. :(
Any further suggestions please?
Thanks.

    Hi all,
I am working on SharePoint Foundation 2010. I have a stand alone setup. Now I am trying to connect to a SQL table in another server. I have used SharePoint Designer to connect using BCS. I have selected "BCS Identity" for authenticating with SQL
in the external content type. then I created a list with this external content type.
I get the following error upon opening the external list.
    Login failed for user 'INYKGW\sp_farm'.
I am confused. how do I solve this error.
    any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi letShare ,
Whether the  account 'INYKGW\sp_farm' is current user account or a service managed account?
Could you  please  provide detail error message of ULS log  to determine the exact cause of the error.

  • Integrate SAP Business Data Into SharePoint 2010 Using BCS & LINQ

One of the core concepts of Business Connectivity Services (BCS) for SharePoint 2010 are the external content types. They are reusable metadata descriptions of connectivity information and behaviours (stereotyped operations) applied to external data. SharePoint offers developers several ways to create external content types and integrate them into the platform. The SharePoint Designer 2010, for instance, allows you to create and manage external content types that are stored in supported external systems. Such an external system could be SQL Server, WCF Data Service, or a .NET Assembly Connector.

  • Oracle - SharePoint 2010 Integration Recommendations/Best Practice

    Hi,
The client has running oracle based application wherein :-
    1) A SQL query is fired to a view
    2) The view actually queries different tables (count=10) and fetches the data of different columns.
    3) In front-end , custom forms are created using OAF which shows the data of of the required columns in a grid-view (search results).
The oracle version used is “Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production”
The above scenario needs to be implemented in SharePoint 2010. I thought of below mentioned design scenarios in SharePoint 2010 :-
Creating a BDC model to integrate Oracle tables (10) data in SharePoint i.e. creating 10 external lists, storing the data in SP and in front-end using .Net C# coding ,using SP queries for diff lists to manipulate
the data and show in grid format. Even if we start full crawl , data will be indexed & crawled but since search is based on different filters/parameters , hence query-based search will be required. How to make query in diff lists in SP for a Search parameter
Directly querying the Oracle DB using BCS
without storing the data in SP – Creating  .Net forms  - Is it possible ? In this case , each time a query will be fired for each and every search - Performance Hit ?? !!
Pure .Net – Reading data from Oracle DB using Oracle Data Provider for .Net C# & using SharePoint as an interface – How security will be managed and how much valid this solution is ?
Third Party Tools (Telerik Web-parts & ORM) – Whether it can be used for the requirements ?
Kindly share your valuable thoughts and ideas and let me know the recommended design for this scenario !!!!
    Vipul Jain

I'd go for building a SharePoint application page or a web part that uses .NET leveraging the Oracle data provider to query Oracle. BCS is great for indexing the info and you can still do that as well, but the UI will look like a SharePoint list and it
sounds as though that's not what you're after.

    Hi,
The screenshot indicates that SharePoint Designer is crashing when trying to add new External Content Type.
Remove the SharePoint Designer and reinstall it to check the result.
Microsoft Business Connectivity Services (BCS) enables users to read and write data from external systems—through Web services, databases, and Microsoft .NET Framework assemblies—from within Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Office
    2010 applications.
There are lots of blog articles showing how to configure BCS in SharePoint 2010. You can start from:

  • SharePoint 2010 + Dynamics GP + CRM + Excel Data

    Hi
I have a request from some of the teams at my company and I am wondering if it is possible without too much development outside of SharePoint and how it can be achieved.
Basically we want to create a customer profile for each customer the company has and this data is currently stored in Microsoft CRM, Microsoft Dynamics GP and some is in Excel spread sheets.
So I would need to pull all this data from the respective databases and the spread sheets and display it on SharePoint somehow. We are currently using PerformancePoint services to display sales data but I don't know if PerformancePoint is the right tool
to use for this customer profile. To me it seems like it mostly displays numerical data while this profile would have a lot of customer information like contact details, rating, contracts etc.
So my question to you guys is...what tool is in place in SharePoint to display this kind of data? Would it be SQL Server Reporting Services? Keep in mind that the data needs to automatically update on SharePoint at some sort of interval to represent changes
in database data or new additions.
    Thank You!
    Tudor

    Hello,
I am surprised that no one responded to your request, since all four of these applications intersect (usually) at some data point(s).
There are several solutions depending on which versions of these applications you are still using.  For example, in SharePoint 2010, you could use BCS to display data from the Account Table in CRM (display - not edit) in one web part.
What data is stored in the spreadsheets?  Is it feasible to move it to CRM or SharePoint?  The less sources, the less complicated.
From how you are describing it, you can probably leave PPS in place, but add other web parts to make a "data page" in SharePoint by customer.
SSRS would be a static report, and requires integration with SSRS, and customization of reports.  There is also PowerPivot which can be implemented in SharePoint 2010, and it can display data from multiple tables and is more interactive for the user.
Lastly, PowerView is also an option, but a better option in SP 2013.
These are just suggestions, not recommendations, that you will need to explore further before deciding which solution works best for your organization, data and users.
    Regards,

  • How to genetare reports(ssrs) with form library's data in sharepoint 2010

    Hi,
How to genetare reports (ssrs) with form library's data in sharepoint 2010.I am saving infopath(2010) xml form data in form library.I have 500 and more forms in the form library( more forms can come in future). How to generate reports from this xml data (i
want to make it automate)? Reports should get updated automatically when any changes made to data and if new form entered in the library.
Please suggest possible solutions.I can not go for code base solution.( somthing SSIS, BCS or web service ....etc or anything else will be fine)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to generate SSRS report with form library in SharePoint 2010.
In order to use the data stored on the InfoPath form, you need to add the controls on the form to be columns in SharePoint(This is the OOTB way without code).
You can add the control during the publish process:
Then when you create the SSRS report using the form library as the data source, you can use the fields just as the fields created in SharePoint.
There is a tool called InfoPath DB in codeplex, you can have a look at it.

  • SharePoint 2010 - Oracle Integration

    Hi,
Can we integrate Oracle views (virtual table) in SharePoint 2010 using BCS , as I've worked on integration in SharePoint with oracle tables and not views using BCS..?
Which is recommended one - a) Moving the data in SharePoint external list to show the results in search or
    b) directly fetching the data from Oracle DB and show in search results in SharePoint...?
Also , here I'm not talking about native/default SharePoint search (i.e. crawling , indexing etc)  ,I'm talking about database-driven search with heavy customizations , SharePoint will only be used for interface.. :(
    Any ideas !!!

Microsoft Business Connectivity Services can connect to external data from oracle database,
you can try to create a BDC model for connecting to Oracle Databases, the following articles have more information about this:

  • Oracle/SharePoint 2010 Integration

    Hello all,
I'm looking into integrating Oracle data into SharePoint 2010 using the BCS. I'd love to hear about the different options
for doing this along with their advantages and disadvantages. Basically I’m looking to be able to display data from multiple Oracle tables and be able to manipulate that data in SharePoint. By that I mean write, update and delete data from different tables
at the same time. The data need to be searchable in SharePoint in a grid format.
This is what I've found out from the research I've done so far please let me know if I'm mistaken or simplifying things.
Thanks so much for your help in advaance.
    - I need to use SharePoint Designer to create External Content Types that my BCS will use.
    - These are based of External Data Source Types (.NET Type, SQL Server, WCF Service).
What are my options for these 3 Data Source types?
    - .NET Type: What can I do with this option? Is this where I create a data model using ODP.NET? Are there other options
    here?
    - SQL Server: Obviously this connects to a SQL Server. What do people think of the option of syching our Oracle DB to a
SQL DB and the using all the functionality and options SQL give us?
    - WCF Services: Can I use any type of web service here to connect to Oracle? Does this option have CRUD functionality and
can I update multiple tables at the same time?
    ODP.NET
    - Is this where I create a .NET Type?
    - Can I select multiple tables?
    - Does this have CRUD functionality?
    - How easy is this to do?
    - Benefits of this?
    - Downsides?
    - Do I need Oracle installed on the SharePoint Server?
    BCS MetaMan
    - Uses Oracle as Data Source
    - Has CRUD functioality
    - Only allows us to update one table in our selection at a time?
    - Benefits of this?
    - Downsides?
    - Do I need Oracle installed on the SharePoint Server
I’d love to hear back from anyone on the options above or different options I’m not familiar with (whether 3rd party or
    other).

    Hi All,
We are planning to maintain the contents in SQL / Oracle. Could you please suggest anyone which is best for SharePoint 2010 / 2013 Search. How to configure the search for external content source?

  • Integrating Oracle DB 11g with SharePoint 2010

    Hi,
Here is my server infrastructure :
Server1: Oracle Database Server Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.1.0) 32bit version installed on Windows Server 2008 SP1 32bit
    Server2: WebLogic server 11g (10.3.5) and Forms 11g (11.1.2.0.0) 32bit version installed on Windows Server 2008 SP1 32bit
    Server3: MS SQL Server 2008 64bit & MS SharePoint 2010 installed on Windows Server 2008 SP1 64bit
I need to now develop a UI integrated in SharePoint(Server3) that will perform CRUD operations on the Oracle DB (Server1).
Do I need to install Oracle Access Manager (OAM) or use Business Connectivity Services or anything else to talk to Oracle DB?
Is the 32bit DB compatible with 64bit SharePoint? If yes, can I use 32bit OAM with SharePoint?
Is Oracle Identity Management required? Do I need to install Weblogic Server and SOA on the DB server?
Can someone please help me with the next steps? How should the infrastructue change? Please also suggest on the 32/64bit versions as well.
Oracle support team asked me to check with the SharePoint team.

I am not sure about 32 bit, Because SharePoint 2010 is only 64bit.
Another thing is you have to install the Oracle Client on all sharepoint server in order to connect the Oracle.

I don't know how to write a custom code
BTW I have installed PowerPivot on my SharePoint server.
Can someone please help me? I need to do this very quickly.

    Hi,
Can you please elaborate whether the data you are getting is from excel file or from database.
    1. If you are populating it from excel , then you can use the Excel service, Power pivot etc mechanism.
    2. If you are getting it from SQL database then you can use BCS service application and use the OOTB external list and content type to display the same in your home page.

Clicking Connect to Outlook in a SharePoint 2010 external list (ECT) produces the following message:
"The Microsoft Common Language Runtime 3.5 is not installed on this computer."
The client is Office 2013 Pro Plus 32-bit on Windows 8.1 64-bit with a standard installation including BCS. .Net 3.5 has been installed from Turn Windows features on or off.
On Windows 7 and Outlook 2013, clicking Connect to Outlook results in the usual running of the .vsto, but nothing happens in Outlook (SharePoint External Lists does not appear). Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 works correctly. Connecting to a standard SharePoint

    Hi Canadian,
To synchronize external data with Office products, you must have Windows 7 or later and the following free software products: SQL Server Compact 4.0, .NET Framework 4, and WCF Data Services 5.0 for OData V3 on each client computer (If necessary, you are
automatically prompted to download the software).

  • Integrating SAP with Sharepoint 2010

    Hello All,
I need some information regarding integrating SAP R/3 with Sharepoint 2010. I am aware of BCS solutions to connect SAP BSP/WebDynpro/Portal enabled processes to Sharepoint. However, I would like to whether we can call an SAP Transaction directly from Sharepoint without developing BSP pages or WebDynpro?
Can we achieve something on Sharepoint 2010 like ITS does on SAP Portal? If yes, how to do that?
    Thanks,
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
with Duet Enterprise you can bring RFC or WebServices that are available in your backend system into SharePoint 2010. So if your transaction consits of several RFCs that are called in the background -- you can do that. Depending on the transaction you might also have to develop the value help functionalities and stuff like that.
You can checkout the videos on the [Duet Enterprise Summit|http://www.duetenterprisesummit.com] site where some customers talk about what they have developed during the ramp-up..
However, if you want to bring ITS / SharePoint Web-SAP-GUI functionality into SharePoint this will be pretty complicated...

    Holger.
