SharePoint 2013 preinstaller error - The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role.
I have been banging my head over and over searching for the fix and nothing has worked. Google used to be my friend. I am having doubts.
Windows 2012 Server with IIS installed during the server creation using VMware Vshpere. Here is the log from the SP prep tool.

It looks like you may have extracted the files to C:\sp2013. Can you try installing from a mounted ISO instead? Can you also validate that this is Server 2012 and not 2012 R2?

After running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe of SharePoint 2013 I am getting the below error in the logs
The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role.
Web server role,application server role is already there in the server.
Ran the necessary power shell commands but still not able to proceed with this error.
Please share your inputs to cross over this issue.

Write Back Error: The system was unable to generate appropriate SQL
All,
Have looked at the previous threads on this topic and it has usually been syntax problems in the xml file. I've been over it a million times and can't see any problems.
The error I'm getting is when I click the "update" button to initiate the write-back;

Week Beginning and Week End are just two columns from WC_DEPT_GOALS_D - 44 columns in total which I want to write back to. These two are datetime, the others are int or float. I can't even get it to write back with these two, let a lone the other 42! :)
Any suggestions? Thanks guys!
Please note, I've also tried it without the "postUpdate" COMMIT line. Same error.

COMMIT :if your DB supports automatic commit so you don't have to add it.
check that the name in "<WebMessage name="GOALS">" is the exact same case as what you have in your report. i.e. it's Goals in the XML and then it cannot be GOALS in the Report or goals.
And also try this..
<update>UPDATE WC_DEPT_GOALS_D SET Week_Beginning = @{c0} WHERE id = @{c2}
UPDATE WC_DEPT_GOALS_D SET Week_Ending = @{c1} WHERE id = @{c2}</update>
Restart all the services and oc4j

Hi All,
I'm getting the below error in My SHarepoint 2013 search Administration page.
Crawler background activity - The search application 'Search Service Application 1' on server "" is not provisioned. Confirm that the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Timer service and Central Administration service are running
on the server.
and when i click on Crawl Log and content source
it throws the below error
The search service is currently offline. Visit the Services on Server page in SharePoint Central Administration to verify whether
the service is enabled. This might also be because an indexer move is in progress
When i check the search status
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance, it shows all the components are online.
As of now search service application is online and search is working.But not sure why it throws the above error.
I have restarted timer service,search service in services.msc and cleared the sharepoint cache as well.
But no luck,This is happening in my prodcution environment.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

1. Central Administration > Monitoring > Review job definitions > Look for following timer job "Application Server Administration Service Timer Job" > Disable
2. Then open windows administrative services (services.msc), stop SharePoint Timer Service
3. Clear SharePoint Timer configuration cache by following steps mentioned in below blog:

4. Start SharePoint Timer Service and give it a few seconds so that the new XML files from the location you deleted then are re-populated.

SharePoint 2013 crawl error - The item may be too large or corrupt.
When crawling SharePoint content I am getting the following error on two lists
"The item may be too large or corrupt. You may also verify that you have the latest version of this IFilter"
I have seen a couple of posts regarding this error in SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2007 but nothing for 2013. I tried the fix for SharePoint 2010 which was to modify the MaxDownloadSize property of the SearchApplication using Powershell (I increased
it from 64 to 128). This had no effect, although I think this property might relate to documents rather than lists.
The two lists that are throwing the errors have previously been indexed successfully, however since an index reset this error is happening, The first list had 6000+ items - I thought the fact the list is large might be causing the problem however
the other list only has 800+ items in it. Each item in the list has two rich text fields which have a fair bit of html in them but not loads.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

NeilSo, in SharePoint 2007 the fix was changing registry settings, in 2010 it was running a couple of Powershell commands.
The fix in 2013 - well we're back to changing registry settings!

According to your post, my understanding is that you could not add apps on other web application.
I recommend to create an empty-host header Web Application.

Unable to install Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 Service Pack 7 on Wndows
Dear All,
I recently downloaded Sun Java System Web Server 6.1 Service Pack 7 and now I am trying to install it.
The previous version of Web Server 6.1 that i installed is running successfully on Windows 2000 Prof. though it is not meant for it.
To install SP7, i uninstalled the previous Web Server 6.1. I also removed the folder Sun and all the child folders of it. The Sun ONE Web Server services are still available and i can't able to delete them even from registry so i disabled them.
Then I tried to install SP7. But after few steps, it gives error:
You already have a Sun ONE Web Server installed. Install can not proceed.
I am sure that i am able to remove completely the previous instance of webserver as i removed all the entries from registry also and also disabled the services related to it.
Still why i am getting this error?
Will it work on Windows 2000 Professional like its previous version?
If not can i able to install previous version of the Web server 6.1 (without SP7) on Windows 2000 Prof?

-SameerSameer, you should have uninstalled Web Server 6.1 using the Web Server uninstallation program instead of just deleting its files and directories. Your Windows registry is now in an inconsistent state.
If you can restore your previous Web Server 6.1 installation from a backup, you can run the uninstaller to correctly uninstall it.
If you cannot uninstall Web Server 6.1 using its uninstallation program, you will need to manually delete the Windows services and edit the Windows registry to remove all references to the files you deleted. Note that you can render your computer inoperable by deleting services or modifying the Windows registry. Don't do this if you're not confident with what you're doing.
To delete the services using SC.EXE:C:\>sc delete https-admserv61
C:\>sc delete https-hostname(You can find the hostname for the Web Server 6.1 service(s) using the Services program in the Administrative Tools folder of the Control Panel.)
To clean up the registry, use REGEDIT.EXE to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Sun Microsystems/WebServer. -

One post suggested "aspnet_regii - enable -i" but my OS doesn't have aspnet_regii on it (not sure what that implies)
One post suggested ServerManagerCmd.exe needed to be installed which sounds true as shown below (but where do I find this exe?)

I'm presuming the first 2 errors are OK and just indicate optional startup modes for prerequisiteinstaller.exe
The 2nd set of errors seems more serious. I don't see ServerManagerCmd.exe on my PC that's listed in the error
I don't understand the last error which I'm supposing triggered the listed error even though there are other errors in the log.
Many of the existing posts don't match the configuration I'm using, and the ones that do match didn't seem to provide a usable answer. Any help is appreciated. Do these problems exist using Sever 2012 Standard? I will try that, but would
like to resolve the issue here with R2.

AlanServerManagerCMD.exe is a deprecated utility and (as far as I know) is only found on Server 2008 versions, so I'm surprised it's needed for the preinstaller. Are you trying to install SharePoint 2010?

AbdelPlease help!!! I am going on 9 days now trying to install SharePoint 2013 onto a VM. I have tried Hyper-V and VMWare and am getting the same result with both.
Running Windows 8.1 with 16 GBs of RAM.
The pre-req installer will not install anything!! And I get this error:
The tool was unable to install Application
Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role
So I installed the Web Server IIS Role and restart... still no luck
Then I ran this command:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -i -enable
And get this message: "This option is not supported on this version of the operating system. Admins should instead install/uninstall ASP.NET 4.5 with IIS8 using the "Turn Windows Features On/Off dialog....
9 days of cussing and pulling my hair out... please someone help.. I just want to run the Pre-Req installer and install SharePoint on a VM Machine.

HP Software finds the printer, but then "the printer was unable to be installed over the network"
I have tried to search for a similar issue, but haven't had any success yet. I doubt I'm the first with this problem!
The computer is XP SP3, the printer is Deskjet 3050A, and it's a WPA-PSK WiFi.
The printer confirms that it is connected to the WiFi.
When I run the setup tool on the computer, at the Network Check point, the setup software finds the printer at the correct IP address. It is the only thing it discovers.
I click next, ànd after a minute or two, I get the error "the printer was unable to be installed over the wireless network" Click Retry to try installing the printer over the network again, or click Cancel to return to the connection options.
This just cycles with no progress. I have turned off the Windows Firewall and also disabled the AV. No change.
I can browse to the web interface of the printer - but still can't install the printer. It is listed in the Printers and Faxes as being Offline.
I'll try once again removing it, and re-adding it - but has anyone come across this problem before, please?

View Solution.I am having a similar problem as well. The printer is recognized (most of the time) when I run the HP Network DIagnostic Utility. However, when I run the Add a Device setup program to install my wireless printer, it is NEVER recognized. I have even tried to use the advvanced serach to locate it using the IP listed in the Diagnostic Utility without any luck. As an aside, I was able to add the printer through windows just fine and am currently able to print to it, but would really like to add it using the HP installation so that I can configure the "scan to" settings again.
To make matters worse, I no longer have the USB cord that came with the printer because the device has been connected wirelessly for over a year now with minimal issues. Any help getting this brick back online and connected to my network would be much appreciated! -

Not sure how I got the Googleupdater.exe file on my computer. I did download Microsoft Security Essentials to help find the JIT problem, but it failed to install properly and run. The next day I remembered it probably only runs on Internet Explorer (which we deleted in 2009) after testing out Firefox. I then also deleted Security Essentials.
I also downloaded on April 25th the free version of MS Visual Basics because I read on eHow that you can adjust settings in the 'TOOL' menu to stop JIT Debugging pop-ups. However, the free version was 'MS Visual Studio Basic 2008 Express Edition - SP1' which did NOT provide access to JIT Debugging settings (so it was not a solution).
I must say I switched Internet Security programs to AVAST! on TU | Apr26th and love it so far. Highly recommend looking into AVAST! ver 6.0 at CNET downloads - free. The anti-virus program is free, but everything else costs about $30US for a year. WORTH IT Love the options | settings | flexibility|user friendly windows.
Trend Micro was then deleted. It had always blocked usage of our internal CD|DVD drive. To use the CD|DVD drive we had to shut off Trend Micro and then turn it back on again after we finished using the CD|DVD drive. NOT a preference - for sure. Jaykay -
i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out. I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message. I cannot restore the factory settings either. The same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? It did this when trying to update to 4.2. I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update. Thanks.

I keep getting this error message: ITunes was unable to load data class information from Synch Services. Reconnect or try again later. What does that mean? Can I fix it? or do I have to wait for the next update?

Unable to open windows using boot camp. Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk." I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7. It worked a few days ago. Any thoughts, Thank you.
Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.
