In particular interested in kerberos authentication...
Anyone had any joy?!?

Can you give me any pointers? I believe there were some issues with the Service Principle Names (TID 7008790), but we have the bugfix for that installed.
Is there any documentation?!?
From a troubleshooting point of view am I best to look at the kdc.log?
Any guidance appreciated

Hi David,
Yes, the kdc.log will give the related error message. To get a flow of things, can you please get us a packet trace captured when the issue is noticed. When you have the packet trace, lets see how to get this packet trace transferred. Rance from NTS can help us here.

  • SharePoint 2013 dev environment as standalone with DC - PowerShell in Azure?

    Hi,
I am looking for a PowerShell script that create based on a Visual Studio 2013 Azure image a dev environment in azure. I need a Standalone server with DC / SQL / SharePoint 2013 on one server.
Provide Microsoft a script for this requirement?
    Regards,

First off, Microsoft does not support SharePoint 2013 on a Domain Controller. Here are some scripting resources, however:

  • Best practice - Development Lifecycle in an SSRS, SharePoint and TFS environment

    Hi,
We have installed our SharePoint/SSRS (in SharePoint integration mode) development environment servers and we're starting to think about the development process for moving reports to a test environment, then to a production environment.  Since the RDL files contain URL's specific to the server on which it resides (URL to the data source, URL's to images in an image library, URL's to subreports, etc), I'd like get some guidance regarding how to move RDL's to the other servers.
Since we're planning to use TFS, one option is to use a build script to change the URL's in the RDL file from pointing to the Dev server to the Test server when we promote a report to test, then change the URL to the Prod server when we promote a report to production.  The data source libraries and image librarys will use the same paths regardless of environment, so changing the server name in the URL should suffice.  However, I don't really like the idea of changing source code (the RDL) during code promotion, but I can't really think of an alternate solution.  Is there any best practice guidance or is there anyone who'd like to share how their development process works?
    Thanks,
    -Mike-

  • SharePoint 2013 Hybrid Environment

Is it possible to have a SharePoint hybrid environment with My Sites on the cloud & team sites on premise?

None of the proposed solutions actually directly address the original question. I know you guys are trying to help, but marking these questions as answered when they're obviously not may help someone's points ratings, but it doesn't help the community. I
found this question marked and answered and got excited, only to find these links are the same ones I'd already found doing basic searches and which *don't* actually answer the original question of how to fully execute hybrid with on-prem team sites and O365
MySites. The Hybrid TechNet article has lots of information on general Hybrid setup and authentication scenarios, but never specifically addresses the MySites, and the MySite article has lots of info on setting up MySites but nothing about Hybrid.
    What I've found:
Yes, you do have to set the on-prem MySite Settings to point to your O365 MySite host. And that's after you've done all of the ADFS/SSO configuration (best walkthrough I've found to date:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj631606.aspx).
    Issues we've found:
    1. Task rollup from on-prem web apps doesn't seem to rollup to O365, which is an issue
    2. Adding a Favorite to the Newsfeed from an on-prem web app attempts to go up to O365, but always says "We're setting up your MySite for the first time" and never seems to add anything to that O365 Newsfeed, which is another valuable tool that, if it doesn't
work in hybrid, makes it hard to recommend to customers.
Which makes me wonder if this specific hybrid integration is fully baked or fully supported at this time.
There needs to be some other category for these questions, such as "Suggestions Provided" and the question not marked as Answered until the original poster comes back and indicates the proposed solutions resolved their issue.

  • Create a ready to use image for SharePoint 2013 development environment.

    Hi
I have a requirement in which we are required to have an Image of the whole SharePoint 2013 environment, (ideally single server installation/standalone as I believe multi-tier would not be possible, or if possible suggest on that also), with all the installations
done- SQL server, SharePoint , language pack if any, App configured, search, service applications, etc etc. so that if at all required we would have that image in a server and provide that image to the developer, he would either mount it or run it and start
    the SharePoint 2013 App development.
    Please suggest on this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Not for imaging purposes.
You could have an environment that is ready-to-go with the bits installed, but not configured. You would then have a post-imaging script that would configure the farm. In this process, you would also need to make sure SQL Server was aware of the server's
    new name (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143799.aspx).

  • Logging to SharePoint and its environment with the setup account - Is this a safe practice ?

    Hello,
Many of us are very familiar with the suggested accounts: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263445(v=office.15).aspx#Subsection2  and http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=391
And we always hear from experts that we should never ever login (Interactive login) to the environment using the FarmAccount e.g. (sp_farm) because this is one of the worst practices and sometimes the the health analyzer will report errors and alerts if
the farm account is used in interactive logins.
OK I understand, I get this part, and I will never ever login using the farm account.
But what about the installation account e.g. (sp_setup)? can I login (interactive login) to the environment and the SharePoint sites using it and doing some changes with it? is that a safe practice? or is it an unforgivable sin too?
    Thanks !

There's a load of reasons why it's a bad idea.
Your admins shouldn't be routinely using that account as it has too many things depending on it and so accidental locks could cause issues.
It's a pain to change it so if a disgruntled admin leaves the company there's a good chance the password won't change, leaving you a potential threat if you've done other silly things.
You have no audit trails showing who used the account.
It has too much access for routine use, allowing a malicious or inept admin to do a lot of damage.
Whilst you might use a keysafe system if it's short enough to remember and type easily then it's not secure enough given its' massive power.
It leads to assumptions about access that will cause you trouble if you ever try to do things right at a later stage
    etc.
You should be using individual named AD accounts, ideally separate from normal user accounts and managed through AD groups. These groups should be audited on a regular basis to trim back users to only those who need access. This isn't a SharePoint concept,
this is a fundamental security process.

  • Apps for SharePoint in intranet environment

Hi All SharePoint Gurus, I am new to App development. Is the Developer Site mandatory if needs to deploy using Visual Studio 2013?
    Regards,
    Khushi

    Hi Kushi,
you can create a internal app catalog, which would be a private app catalog with a dedicated  site collection in your sharepoint environment, then use it.
It would be the same concept for Prod environment also.

  • SharePoint 2013 production environment

    Hi,
I have to create a SP2013 production server .There would be only one site hosted in that SP2013 Production environment.
    My Question's:
Is it fine to host WFE & DB on the single server.
If No, why i should create different servers for it.
    Regards,
    Purvish Shah

    Hi,
The WFE and DB on the same server depends on Capacity Planning and Capacity management, Capacity planning will allow you to understand the business requirement (number of users, request per user, type of content management the environment
will be used for (static -- normal content or document management etc.) based on which you can design the environment to have DB in WFE or to have different server with WFE and DB. Please refer to the url below, it summarize on the SharePoint 2013 Capacity

  • Update SharePoint in Staging Environment to SP2

    Brand New Admin Here
I have been given the task to Update SP in Staging Environment to Service Pack 2. Once this is successfully done, I will then have to do it into the Production/Live environment.
I have no idea where to start, never have done this, please advise!
    Appreciate all your help!

First, we would need to know if you had SharePoint Foundation, Server, or Project Server installed. In addition, if you had Search Server Express or Office Web Apps installed. You can find this information in Central Administration -> Manage Servers in
Farm. It will have the listed products that are installed for each server.
Once you figure that out, go to http://download.microsoft.com and search for your product(s) SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 2 package (e.g. Office Web Apps 2010 Service Pack 2).
Install the package on each SharePoint server in the farm. Once you're done installing the package(s), you need to then run Configuration Wizard on each server in the farm to apply the update.
You can find a lot of information on the process here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff806329.aspx. While this says SharePoint 2013, the process is identical for SharePoint 2010.

  • Termstore changes are not getting reflected in the list items in SharePoint 2010 farm environment

    Hi,
I had created managed metadata with termstores from central admin. Then I had created one list in which added a column of type managed metadata using the managed metadata which I had created. And also added few list items to this list.
The problem is that after updating a termstore the changes are not reflecting in the list items which were added before the update.
I have referred the following links:
    http://www.paulgrimley.com/2011/02/managed-metadata-changes-not-applied-to.html
    http://davidfrette.wordpress.com/2010/05/26/taxonomy-update-scheduler%C2%A0timer%C2%A0job/
According to the links we need to run Taxonomy Update Scheduler on the server for updated termstore to get reflected. After running
this scheduler on development environment changes are getting reflected but not working on the production environment.
    Kindly help!
    Regards, Shruti

You should check the obvious.  You made the change in dev, but did you make the change in production too?  And, is the term you updated, actually the one that you are looking at in the list item?
There is not much, if anything, that can go wrong with that timer job. so I'd guess that the term you are looking at is not the one you think you are updating.
If you have double checked everything (the term is is in fact the same term id), then you may have something erroring in the update process.  In this case, you should check the ULS logs for any errors.

    Hi,
I am having full control access to SharePoint site. Then i tried add user for that site.
But i am getting following error while adding the user to the site.
    An unexpected error has occurred.

This could be any one of a number of things.  You need to lookup the Correlation ID in the ULS logs on the SharePoint server.  That should provide the additional information necessary to diagnose and solve the problem.  Here's a blog post
on how to find the error.

  • Share the same SharePoint 2013 development environment for multiple developers

    Hi,
We need our developers(more than 2) to use the same ''SharePoint 2013 development server' for different application developments. Their work should not affect each others(like application pool reset etc.). How this can be achieved ?

    Hi Kalai,
Please check the following similar post suggested that each developer could deploy his dll file to each separated web application bin folder by setting Visual Studio property "Assembly Deployment Target" to "Web Application".

  • SQL Reporting Services stops on my SharePoint 2007 Moss environment?

    Hi,
I have SharePoint 2007 Moss SP3 installed on my VMWare server. I have a separate database VMWare server. I have SQL Server Reporting Services configured. Every other day the SQL Reporting Service stops, it seems to time out and logs a 7031 windows event.
I've had to create a scheduled task to restart this service every day at 4am. The OWSTIMER process consumes around 50% CPU. Any solutions for the above?
    Thanks.

    Hi AspNet-Scotland,
The application pool for Central Admin might be timing out, increasing the shutdown time limit for the process model from the default of 90 seconds to something longer (300 seconds) should resolve it if the cause is time-outs.
This post explains how to change the Shutdown Time limit:

  • SharePoint 2013 Dev Environment on a Laptop

    Hi,
I'm new to SP and to VMs and I'm planning to buy a good laptop to do SP dev on it without needing to be connected to a server.
I guess I shoud have at leat 2 VMs (DC+SQL & SP)  and It seems SP2013 memory requirements aren't modest.
Will I be OK with 16GB or is it much better to get the 32GB?
The rest of the relevant hardware is SSD-SATA 3 and i7-4600MQ (or HQ)
    Many Thanks,
    DD

More RAM the better. I have 32 GB and often wish for more. But 32 GB works well.
Consider adding one more small VM with IE, Office and SharePoint Designer. You could also access the VMs from software installed on the base laptop. You will get better performance (at least with IE) and a better user to server testing experience.

    Hi All,
What is the system requirements for developing and deploying web-parts in SharePoint site for developers?
we are getting above error when trying to deploying web parts from local machine, our local machine configuration in win 7 with visual studio 2013.
    Mani L

    Hi,
This is a known bug that will be fixed in the future versions of the SharePoint Developer Tools.
As for now the workaround is to have the host mapped in the hosts file not to 127.0.0.1 but to your real IP address.
When you try to create a new SharePoint 2013 project or will change the URL of an existing project everything will work as expected.
Please mark the same as answer if it helps you. Thanks.
