SharePoint Licensing

Hi,
I have a licensing query.
We are planning to set up the following SharePoint Enterprise Farm with Intranet and Extranet Scenario
2 WFEs - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
2 APP Servers - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
2 Search Servers - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
2 Reporting Services Servers(SharePoint Integrated Mode) Do We need SharePoint Licenses ?
2 Database Servers - SQL Licenses based on processors
For this Farm how many SharePoint Licenses are required. If its VM what are the additional licenses need to consider ?
We have already catered for Internal user CALS
Please advise
Ready for Action

2 WFEs - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
2 APP Servers - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
2 Search Servers - 2 SharePoint Server Standard & Enterprise License ?
Inder: Your whole farm should use same license either Standard or Enterprise. Mix of standard and enterprise will not work
2 Reporting Services Servers(SharePoint Integrated Mode) Do We need SharePoint Licenses ?
Inder: As this will have SQL server, it will require SQL server license and CAL for sharepoint to connect to this SQL server
2 Database Servers - SQL Licenses based on processors
Inder: Yes you can go for Processor based licenses
For this Farm how many SharePoint Licenses are required. If its VM what are the additional licenses need
to consider ?
Inder: Planning SharePoint on VM wont make any change
Planning SQL on VM will make some difference.

  • MS Sharepoint Licensing

I have a client that is currently running MS SharePoint 2010 Server + 25 Client Licenses. He wants to upgrade to MS SharePoint 2013. Is there a license (Upgrade) to get him from 2010 to 2013? or do we just need to go with mfg#76P-01501 for the
server and mfg#76M-01518   for the clients?

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to upgrade SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.
I think you need to buy new Licenses to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 in your cases.
Here is a related posts, you can use take a look at:

  • Can not get my SharePoint Online service up and running....help!!

    Strange thing here!
    this is what I did:
    1.logged into my account, which is [email protected];
    2.click the downfacing triangle right to Admin;
    3.click SharePoint;
    then see the following alert:
    That didn't work
We're sorry, but [email protected] can't be found in the gsmtrans123-admin.sharepoint.com directory. Please try again later, while we try to automatically fix this for you.
    Here are a few ideas:
Click here to sign in with a different account to this site.
This will sign you out of all other Office 365 services that you're signed into at this time.
If you're using this account on another site and don't want to sign out, start your browser in Private Browsing mode for this site (show me how).
If that doesn't help, contact your support team and include these technical details:
    Correlation ID: 5086749c-644c-e054-0779-2f8db2d436c0
Date and Time: 2/15/2014 7:44:15 AM
    URL: https://gsmtrans123-admin.sharepoint.com/
    User: [email protected]
    Issue Type: Partner User Invalid.
    My questions:
    1.How come?
2.What shoud I do to set up my standlone SharePoint Online service?
3.Can I get a later expiration date for this disrupption?
    Thanks.

According to the error message, you are still using the same account.
    [email protected]
I was able to reproduce the exact same error message when accessing my sharepoint.com site using an account with Global Administrator role, but without the proper licensing.
What happens if you go to https://gsmtrans123.sharepoint.com, or
https://gsmtrans123-my.sharepoint.com. Do you see any sharepoint sites, or do you get a error message?
Have you tried to open this in another browser, or cleared the cache in your current browser?
Could you try to create a new account, assign it the Global administrator role, and a SharePoint license, and then login to your admin site?
If all of those fail, you should probably create a Service Request using this form

  • What's the licensing model for diagnostic pack or tuning pack in GC

Is it licensed for the number of databases it monitors in GC? i.e. if we add a database to GC, do we need to buy more license?

    Hi Wilson,
You don't have to pay for Duet Enterprise twice.  Duet Enterprise is a product developed jointly by MSFT and SAP, and both MSFT and SAP sell it.  Duet Enterprise provides access to SAP data and processes from MSFT SharePoint 2010, so yes, naturally you need SharePoint licenses from MSFT.  You already have SAP professional user licenses for the SAP backend access, so the only product you need to buy is Duet Enterprise for the number of SAP users you are planning to accomodate.  As for the price, you can get a quote from your account executive.
If you want to provide access to SAP to additional users, you may consider buying Gateway licenses.  Talk to your account executive about the cost effective options.
    Hope this helps,
    Ella

  • Which version of sharepoint for OneNote sharing

We are starting to use OneNote for consultants, and we're thinking about savings the OneNote workbooks onto a server.  While consultants are at client sites they need access to selected workbooks, so we thought of using Offline files (for Windows laptops),
but that doesn't help with Android tablets.  As well, I think I read in the docs that offline files are NOT recommended for this purpose.
I would like to experiment with sharepoint to hold the docs and sync them with tablets/laptops.  I would like to do a pilot with a handful of users, but I'm wondering if I need to buy a SharePoint license?  I believe there is a free version of
sharepoint - will this support the syncing of OneNote files or do I have to buy a license?

Sadly MS have re-used terms and left the 'cloud vs premises' story very hard to understand here, most people get horribly confused by it. The most common situation is to use the OneDrive for Business application to sync to 'OneDrive' in the cloud.
However, OneDrive for business can sync to non-cloud SharePoint, where it's still called OneDrive. It's confirmed here:
    https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/What-is-OneDrive-for-Business-187f90af-056f-47c0-9656-cc0ddca7fdc2
"If you’re using Office 365, you get 1 TB of space in the cloud for OneDrive for Business. If your OneDrive for Business library is hosted on a SharePoint server in your organization, your organization’s administrators determine how much storage space
    is available."

  • Upgrade the existing Moss 2007 licence to SharePoint 2013.

Our customer is using the Moss 2007 enterprise version with 500 CALs currently. They want to move to SharePoint 2013. I need to purpose the migration cost.
    I am wondering -
does it possible to upgrade the existing Moss 2007 licence to SharePoint 2013.
Do customer has to purchase new licence?
Will existing licence help in any way if new licences are required?
    Regards Restless Spirit

I assume you will have to purchase new licenses and you may get discount based on your company contract. Check below:

  • Provider Hosted Apps - Platform Licencing

Is there any documentation on the licencing requirements for the web servers that host 'Provider-Hosted' Apps?
    2 examples:
1 - If a client has 50 users on O365 including SharePoint Online, how are those users licenced for the use of the remotely hosted App
2 - If a client has on-premise SharePoint foundation (correctly licenced) do those on-premise windows CALs transfer to use the services of the remote server?
Is a server hosting an App acting as an anonymous webserver and can therefore be licenced as one, or is it providing services to named users and therefore must be licenced accordingly ?  This obviously extends to SQL / SQL Express where the App requires
it's own DB access for management and tracking

The licensing requirement of the Provider hosted app is provided by the application provider it's not related to the SharePoint licenses you have
The app provider will create the app as free or paid and if it's paid he will select how much it will cost per user which is irrelevant of the usage of the app in on premise or online versions of SP

  • Using DSC for SPC on production testers

I need to create a process control application to make sure my testers are in compliance.  I see the labview SPC toolkit was absorbed into DSC.  Basically I need to lock a tester up when it is due for "verification".  At this point an operator would interact with a GUI and run control units to verify the tester is in control.  at this point the tester is released back to production and the operator can proceed as normal.  I'm looking for a central database to keep track of all the data and lock testers when they are due.  These testers are running TestStand.  Does this sound like an application where DSC would be of use?  Any input would be greatly appreciated

I think you need separate licensing for the staging and production.
For staging, i would go for MSDN subscription and use the key from their. Because if you buy regular license then its very much costly for staging farm.

  • Automator and online database

I have access to an Oracle student information system database and I have to do repetitive tasks such as changing the # of seats available in a class for a particular semester. Under 10.5, I created several Automator workflows (combined with AppleScripts) to do this. They don't work under 10.6. Sample: activate TextWrangler, get the class record number from a list (text file), bring the Oracle window to the front, paste the number into a field, back to TextWrangler to get the # of seats, back to the Oracle DB, move to the attendance field, paste the number, save, and back to the beginning, repeat. This worked fine in Leopard, but not in Snow Leopard.
Sometimes the paste doesn't even work! What's up? Do I need to "downgrade " to 10.5?
    Thanks.

according to your requirement, i think your best bet is SharePoint Online(Office 365). You can get the access services features over there...You don't need to setup the SharePoint farm & no need to extra OS DB Server and SharePoint licensing.
Good thing, free trial available for SharePoint Online, you can test it.
here is tech-net, which will give you details about SharePoint online and comparison between different subscription level.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/sharepoint-online-service-description.aspx
here is good blog to configure the Access Services with SharePoint Online:http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-access/archive/2012/07/30/get-started-with-access-2013.aspx
Second Option is On premises SharePoint deployment. For this keep in mind you need Hardware and software licensing and full time SharePoint person to keep these system up.  you need a public facing infrastructure because you have user outside your company. You
want to use Access Services, which required SharePoint Enterprise.
here is hardware & software requirement.

  • Reporting Services Add-in for Sharepoint- does it need an SQL Server license?

In a new project we will be creating an SSRS in Sharepoint integrated mode. For this we'll need SQL Server and Sharepoint on that box.
We'll also have one or more SharePoint Web Front End (WFE) servers. To allow them to connect to the SSRS-in-sharepoint-mode box, and to present the user with the right user interface for doing so, I believe we can install the Reporting Services Add-In for
    Sharepoint on the WFE servers.
The question is, do we need to have  SQL Server license for each WFE server where we use the Reporting Services Add-In, or is it free to use?
We've had advice that we need to buy a SQL Server license everywhere we use the add-in, but I am not sure this is correct.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rich

    Hello there,
The Reporting service Add-in for SharePoint can be downloaded free on Microsoft Download site. That means it does not need any license on the add-in.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 single server installation licenses and system requirements

We are thinking of setting up a SharePoint Server 2013 for the following features to be accessed by our test team (<100 users)
Our requirements are as follows -
Total user access <100 users(starts with 50 and may be go upto 100)
Mainly Access to TeamSite(Document library), WiKi, BI reports view(SSRS Reports integration)
We have a Visual Studio Ultimate license that covers SQL Server 2012 and Share Point server 2013.
We have also got a Amazon EC2 machine access to create a Xlarge box with Microsoft recommended Cores, Memory, storage for SINGLE INSTALLATION of SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL server database on Windows Server 2012
    My queries are as follows
Are the licenses above sufficient to go ahead with setting up the SP Server? or do i need any other licenses ?
I would like to create local LDAP in amazon without connecting to the company active directory. Would this be possible? We have users from other locations(different countries) providing services to our company and we would like them to access this portal
to share and access docuemnts without any network issue etc..
Are there any known firewall issues with EC2 machines for share point deployment
System requirements for single server installation (with or without BI reports)
Please note this implementation is only for internal use by the test team and is not critical. Not a production implementation.
    Is there any better solution?
    Much appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Vara

MSDN subscription licenses for SharePoint aren't, as far as i know, for use as production devices. This means that whilst you can use it for testing and development you can't use that license for the SharePoint server that you'll all be using.
As such I think you will need to buy a SharePoint 2013 server license. The same goes for SQL, Windows etc.
There is also the question of user licenses, ie. CALs. I don't remember if those come included as part of an MSDN subscription.
    2) Possibly. As long as Amazon can host a domain for you it should be possible.
    3) Pass. Microsoft prefer you to use Azure and most of my training and experience is with that.
    4) High. 4 cores, 24GB of RAM minimum.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#hwforwebserver
You'll either need a 2XLarge or a memory orientated box, in which case you won't have much storage space.
Internal team infrastructure is still important. If you're using it enough to make it worth having then you need it there and running.
Have you considered using Office 365?

  • License Question for SharePoint Foundation 2010

I have a question as it regards to the user agreement for SharePoint Foundation 2010.
When I deploy code to the front-end of the Foundation service which directly modifies the code on the front-end to make the system do anything different out of the box, does this mean I have violated the code agreement.
For instance, using JQuery to manipulate the look and feel of a form, use third party tools like SPServices, attach SharePoint Designer workflows, modify the server end by using STSADM command line to turn features on and off, create and deploy site
collection features using Visual Studio, or create web parts?
Also, if I am using this software for business purposes of any kind, does it mean I need to purchase the software?
I have received a copy of Share Foundation along with a Server 2008 R2 OS which was purchased.
IF I use Foundation to run my business processes, am I in violation of the user agreement and do I need to purchase SharePoint Server 2010 with CALs?

The official answer: "I'm not a licensing person. Please contact Microsoft."
    In general:
Foundation is a "free" download, but can only be installed on Windows Server. You can install Foundation 2010 on Windows 7, but only for testing/development, not as a production server.
Foundation is "free" in that it is licensed as part of the Windows Server it is installed on.
If you have 500 users, then Windows Server will need to be licensed for 500 users. The Windows Server licensing will also depend on if the users are internal or on the internet.
SQL Server: If you are using SQL Express, then no license costs, but the number of SharePoint users may impact the licensing costs of your SQL Server.
The choice between Foundation vs. Standard or Enterprise is the list of features needed and scalability (how many users?).
"JQuery, SPServices, SharePoint Designer workflows, STSADM, Visual Studio..."
None of those will impact your licensing. Anything that you do to directly query or manipulate the SQL tables will impact your support. SharePoint is a platform and you are expected to configure and customize it.

  • Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013?

Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013? Is there anyway around this or do I need to make a new box all trial versions to test this out?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    James,
Yes, it is possible , however I wont recommend to do it. Since, once Project trial period expires  you need to uninstall project server which can not be done without uninstalling SharePoint. Unless you are willing to rebuild the farm once your
    testing is completed

  • What are Reporting Services SharePoint 2013 licensing requirements?

    Hi All
I have a SharePoint Enterprise 2013 farm of 2 WFE, 2 APP servers.  And an 2012 SQL Enterprise server.
I need Reporting services to be on the farm.
I read all the SharePoint Farm servers running SSRS must have an SQL license, which seems excessive.  I assume it stands as "Additional Software" from the Product Use Document in SQL.  As long as the SQL server is licensed?
What are the licensing options, keeping in mind that there is an SSRS Add-on (which I believe is freely available), and an SSRS instance?
    Cheers

SSRS instances require a SQL Enterprise or BI license, depending on how you want to license it. This license is separate from the SQL Database Engine if not running on the same server.
