Sharepoint List DataSource

Forgive me as I am new to Sharepoint though a veteran SQL Developer. I am having difficulty writing back to a joined query that has but 3 tables. I have tested ability to write back to a single table from a list successfully but can't do so from a slightly
more complex query that has the 3 tables. I understand how Sharepoint could get "confused" and not know which of the 3 to write data to. My question is how do you designate which table to write back to? Thanks in advance.

According to your description, when you use SharePoint List as DataSource, you want to directly use created views so that you can show the specific values you need. Right?
In Reporting Services, when we use SharePoint List as DataSource, all columns in Lists will be exported into Query Builder. There's no feature in Query Builder to show the views created for each SharePoint List. If we only need some specific columns, we
can only select them manually. So your requirement can't be achieved currently.

    I wanna create a SharePoint List Datasource in ReportManager, but the only DataSource type avaiable is MS SQL Server.
    Is it because I'm using SQL Express (with advanced services) ?
    Do I need a superior edition? or do I need to install the Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint ?
    I think the Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint  is only to use Report Server in Sharepoint Mode, is this correct?

    According to your description, when you are trying to create a SharePoint List Datasource using SQL Server Express, the only DataSource type avaiable is MS SQL Server. In fact, SQL Server Express does not support non-SQL data source. So if we want to create
    a SharePoint List Datasource, we need to update it to Standard or higher.
    Besides, we don’t need to install Reporting Services Add-in when trying to create a SharePoint List Data Source. The Reporting Services Add-in is a required component for a report server that runs in SharePoint mode. It enables Reporting Services features
    include Power View, a Report Viewer Web Part, a URL proxy endpoint, and application pages, so that you can create, view, and manage reports, report models, data sources and other report server content on a SharePoint site.

  • Build Report using sharePoint list datasource for EPM projects.

    Hi all,
    I am using Project Server 2010. 
    When project is created using EPT then for that project a site will be created and each site has sharePoint Lists. 
    I want to build SSRS report that uses this sharepoint list as datasource. 
    My connection string to the site URL must be dynamic as each project site URL will be different.

  • Updating a secondary datasource to a Sharepoint list via infopath form rules

    Using SharePoint 2010 and InfoPath 2010 I created a form that prior to submission it gets an integer value from a separate SharePoint list via a secondary datasource.  Just before the rule that submits the form to a document folder via the
    main datasource I increment the integer value and try to write it back to the secondary datasource I got it from.  I know that I have the correct value.  That is, it is reading from the data source the correct integer information and it is incrementing
    it in the form but when it writes the value back to the same column in the same secondary datasource it doesn't give any indication that it didn't work.  But when I look at the list of the secondary data source I see that the integer value is
    not updated.

    You can attach your Excel doucment into InfoPath form and send InfoPath form to a custom web service. Then you can parse the Excel data and combine the Excel data and additional fields into SharePoint list in the customized  web service.

    You should first deploy the Dashboard to a preview site then you can preview in Dashboard designer.

  • How to retrieve sharepoint list data and show it on excel-addin using C#

    Hi,
    we have a sharepoint list where all students are present. we wanted to get the data from the list and show it via excel addin (VSTO) (something like save,retrieve buutons) . we have some more business logic which need to be performed before the data is retrieved
    . once data is shown on excel , user modifies it and update/save the record back to sharepoint.

  • Unable to connect to SharePoint list data from PowerPivot in Excel

    Hi,
    I have the PowerPivot excel add-in installed and I can connect successfully to SQL data.  I have two SharePoint farms - Farm 1 and Farm 2.
    I am able to connect PowerPivot to SharePoint lists in multiple web applications in Farm 1 by using the ListData.svc.
    e.g. https://farm1/_vti_bin/ListData.svc/Tasks
    In Farm 2 I am unable to connect to SharePoint data.  I have tried multiple web applications on Farm 2 and can't connect.  I receive the following error.  I am able to browse to the address in Internet Explorer and see a feed.
    Has anyone else had this error?

    From your descripton, it seems you want to use SharePoint list as a data souce. If so, you should export the SharePoint as data feed in your SharePoint site, and then create a new PowerPivot table that contains the list. Here are some articles for your reference,

    When we use SharePoint list as datasource in SSRS it has two method to add parameter. Suppose we have a dataset (DataSet1) get data from SharePoint list. Please refer to the methods below.
    Method 1: We can add parameter in the Query Designer dialog box to add parameter.
    Click “Add Filter” icon in the “Applied filters” dialog box in Query Designer.
    Select the corresponding field (Title), fill with specific conditions, and select Parameter option in the end of the row.
    Create a dataset (DataSet2) fill with Title field.
    Double click the parameter we create above, set the available values from DataSet2 field Title.
    (Note: In the situation, we are get the single-value parameter.)
    Method 2: It is a general method to add parameter in SSRS report.
     Create another dataset (DataSet2) in the report fill with Title field.
    Add a parameter (Title) get available values from DataSet2 Title field.
    Add filter in the DataSet1.
    (Note: This method, we can configure multi-values parameter.)

    I would like to group my events by date though, rather than display the date against each row. To make things even more complicated, I would like to use friendly names like Today, Tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday instead of dates:

    When I've done this in the past I've always used a calculated field that translated the days into the groupings I wanted.  You couldn't do quite the groupings that you list above, but it would give you categories to group on.  You could then
    apply the groupings in the base view.  Then you could use the Row Databound event to change the labels on the Groupings at runtime to the ones you want to use.

    Add the filter and preview.

    According to your description, you want to use a SharePoint list as datasource then create a chart.
    In your scenario, we can add a calculated field which includes “pending” and  “Task Overdue”. Then add the calculated field to the Series Groups panel. Please refer to the steps and results below:
    1. Add a calculated field and specify the value with the expression below:

    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to custom action for context menu in "Site Content and Structure" in SharePoint 2010.
    In "SiteManager.aspx", SharePoint use MenuItemTemplate class which represent a control that creates an item in a drop-down menu.

  • Open a SharePoint List item in Modal Pop up in SP 2013 fails after you filter or sort the list

    Sorry for the long post. This has been killing me. I had this script working perfectly fine in SharePoint 2010 (online) and basically i have a source custom list (list A) with a hyperlink column and a Destination List with say title and my name.
    Source List (list A) looks like this with these 2 columns
    Title    Test Link
    A         Link 1
    B         Link 2 
    C         Link 3
    Each of these links link to the actual list item in the destination list, so for example, link 1 is/sites/2013DevSite/Lists/Destination%20List/EditForm.aspx?ID=1
    So basically i want anytime the Link are clicked that point to another list's item to open in a modal dialog and the script below worked perfectly fine in SharePoint 2010 (online)

    All it does is find the href tags for that particular value Editform.aspx and the pop modal works in SP 2010 online. So the site page is designed in such a way there is a content editor web part with the reference to this javascript file and the sharepoint
    list is right beneath it and this worked perfectly opening in modal windows in SP 2010.
    Since migration to 2013, this is what exactly happens
    1.) when you come to the site page, the modal works,
    2.) If you filter or sort on say the Title or Test Link column in Source list (lets say you select the Value A), the script does not fire at all, if i hover over the hyperlink, the who hyperlink is shown and does not open the hyperlink in the modal pop up.
    - This is important because i want to be able to sort on a particular item...
    Could someone please let me know what am i doing wrong and why is this not working when i sort the list. Thanks for all the help.

    A ListItem has its own unique row id so in all likelihood, an insert with the same data will result in a new list entry. The Lists Web Service however, has an UpdateListItem method which will take an update request. [refer
