Sharing Apps and Songs with family members

I've just set my 2 kids up with their own apple ID's so that they can buy music that they like, instead of only having access to my wife an my music and apps. My wife thinks this was a bad idea, since now if we like songs that they download, we will have to buy them again, instead of before how we had everything load into one apple ID.
Before, our home iMac always had all our songs and apps, and if anyone wanted them, they had to sync their device to that one computer, or be tied into that apple ID account on the app/store. We were able to run everything thru our AppleTV that way also. Now they are independent of this account, can we still somehow tie our family accounts together, and share  stuff amungst ourselves (similar to how we are still able to be logged into the same iCloud account, and share Calendars and Contacts)?
Sharing and being connected as a family on iCloud, has been a disappointment, and not as user friendly as it used to be when there was a iDisc, and MobileMe. I'm starting to feel like Apple is taking a downslide on thinking this thru more thoroughly...
Thoughts?

If you are talking about *all* of the organizing that you have done (captions, collections/albums, tags, notes, GPS locations, version sets, stacks, creations, stars), then yes, the other person would have to have PSE7.
If you are talking about tags and captions, then this information can be written to files* and then read by many other programs. In the organizer, select File->Write Tags and Properties Info ... Then, send a copy of these photos to other people, and most software will read those tags and captions.
Album/Collection membership, version sets, stacks, creations can not be sent this way. Creations can be saved as .pdf file and sent.
* — this command fails for some raw files, and also on rare occasions fails for .jpg files. For PSE6 and PSE7, John R. Ellis has created a tool that offers a workaround.

  • Can we share apps and songs with two different apple IDs but the same computer?

we both got an iPod Touch for Christmas and we have two seperate Apple IDs and I cant figure out if the music she has purchased and the music i have purchased can be combined. We are using the same computer (windows 7) and same user acct. We also have itunes gift cards and before we start buying stuff i want to know how this all works. Thanks in advance and I must admit i am new to apple and not the greatest at it.

I've tried everything..unplugging and re-setting the Apple TV, restoring to factory settings and starting over...nothing seems to work. I'm not sure why the software upgrade would have affected it, but that's what triggered this problem. It doesn't seem right that if it's accessible on my computer and it's all music purchased by me, that it's not all accessible on my Apple TV!

I have shared my icalendars with family members via icloud and now my calendar on my computer has been stuck saying "Moving calendars to server account" for literally 5 days.  What do I do?

    Hi, Confused As Always CB.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Hopefully I can help resolve this issue for you.  Try removing the preference to sync calendar events in iCloud preferences.  Once this is down enable the preference again and see if this resolves the issue.
Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on:
    Quit Calendar (or iCal).
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then select iCloud.
Deselect the checkbox next to Calendars.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
Replace the checkmark next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences.
Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue is resolved.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
If the issue persists, try all remaining steps in the article below.

  • HT204486 Sharing Photo library with family members with different iCloud accounts?

How might one share Photos library with family members with their own Apple IDs?

    I would try the following:
    1. Create a smart album. Match condition as "Album" is "Any". That should capture all your photos and videos as of now.
    2. Share that Album via iCloud photo sharing, sending invitations to the family members.

  • Share iCloud drive with family members

Has anybody figured out how to share iCloud drive with family members?
I was using Amazon Cloud drive which used to have an app you could download and imbed into Finder, but with OS X 10.1 this is no longer supported so I've switched over to iCloud drive.  So far it is working seamlessly, except for the fact the my wife has to log into my iCloud account on the web in order to download the files.  Ideally I could share iCloud drive and she'd simply log into finder on her mac to view our files and records.
    Thanks in advance.

You can only share iCloud Drive with someone else if they also log in to the same account.  Otherwise, your sharing will be limited to the sharing options of the file itself, which is extremely limited.  Hopefully they will add more options as time goes on, but for now, thats where iCloud Drive is at, in its infancy.
    Good Luck.

  • Can I share my contacts list with family members?

can I share my contacts list with family members in the same way as sharing tunes and photos? If so how do I go about setting this up?

Perhaps you should read these Apple documents about what is stored by iCloud.  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview:
Your iCloud account includes 5 GB of free storage for iCloud Mail, Documents in the Cloud, and your iOS device backups. Your purchased music, apps, books, and TV shows, as well as your photo stream, don’t count against the 5 GB of free storage ........
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksPurchased music isn’t backed up in all countries. Purchased movies and TV shows are backed up only in the U.S. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore. Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. A movie’s product details page in the iTunes Store shows if the movie is unavailable.

  • I want to update my ipad into ios5 how can i backup my ipad apps and song?

please help me how can i backup my ipad apps and songs thank you...

To update to iOS 5.0.1 you need iTunes 10.5 on your computer. When you've got iTunes 10.5 installed then connect your iPad to it and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases - that will copy off your apps and iTunes bought music, films (not rentals if they were bought directly on the iPad), tv show, ibooks, but it won't copy off music bought from other stores or music copied from your own CDs (if they are no longer on your computer then you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPad).
You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, files, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
If iTunes doesn't prompt you to update to iOS 5.0.1 on your iPad, then with your iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of it, then on the Summary tab on the right-hand side click the Check For Updates button.

  • My iphone is set to automatically download.  i just made some purchases from my ipad and now my phone has the app and songs showing up, but it says waiting to download.  what gives and how do i fix?

i have an iphone, imac and 2 ipod touches 5th generation.  I just purchased some apps and songs on the ipad with hopes they would transfer to all the other devices.  some of them did go to all devices while others did not.  when i go to purchases on one of the ipods they show up as not purchaced (even though they may be on 2 of the other devices).  my iphone has them there, but it says waiting to download.  its been a day and they are still waiting to download.  I've checked settings on all and they are set to automatically download and all devices share the same apple id.  not sure what ive done wrong and have tried several things.  hopefully i haven't confused you too much.

My problem was that Software Update didn't check for updates every day, and maybe never...
    Finally I found that: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120824124203635
Basically all you have to do is open the Terminal and type:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist ScheduleFrequency 1
The number, 1 in this case, means the frequency which Software Update is going to check for updates, so 1 means every day.
If this doesn't work you can try two things (or both, but in this order)
         - Go to /Library/Preferences/ and delete the file: com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, then open Software Update... to create a new file, and go to System Preferences to configure it again. Finally open the Terminal and try the command at the beginning of this comment.
         - If Software Update continues without checking for updates every day, open the file: com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist and you will see a preference that is: ScheduleFrequency with the number 1 at its right and you will see that the type is String, copy the file to the Desktop (for example) and change the type String to Number, then drag the file in the Desktop into the Preferences folder and replace the first. It will work. (For this part you will need Xcode)

  • How do I transfer my iTunes apps and songs using my apple ID to our main computer which already has my husband's apple ID on

I have iTunes on an old laptop with my own apple ID for my iphone and ipod.
My husband has iTunes on our main computer with his own apple ID for his iphone and ipod.
I am shortly purchasing an iPad using my apple ID.
How can I transfer my songs, apps and videos from my iTunes onto the new computer using my apple ID, not his.
Is it possible to create a new account on his iTunes?
How do I ensure all my apps and songs come over from my iTunes?
I have searched on here and online but have not been able to get an answer.
    Thanks

    Thanks
Are you sure that if I use my windows log in rather than my husbands, then open itunes it won't delete all his hundreds of songs and overwrite with mine?
I want to maintain my own apple ID login and he wants his but without losing his songs.....
how do i transfer the content of my itunes including apps and songs to the new computer.  There doesn't seem to be an easy explanation on here. Do I just plug my iPhone in and it will all transfer?

  • If I Create a New iTunes Account, will I lose my Apps and Songs?

My wife has an Apple Id and I have another.
We share the same music library on our desktop but any purchases from iTunes in terms of Apps and Songs are only limited to the device/apple ID that we bought it with.
So here's my question: if I create a new Apple Id that will be used with her iPad, my iPhone and her iPhone will we:
    - Be able to keep the Apps and songs we bought with the original Apple IDs?
    - If so, will they be deleted once I sync it or will I lose saved games (I play Grand Theft Auto), etc?
    - Will we both lose our contacts on our phones?
    - If I so, can I retrieve the current contacts I have on the cloud and import into the new account?
In terms of the contacts, should I just work on a project to make sure that all my contacts are on my GMail and let my iPhone use that one as default and do the same for her so I don't have to worry about it?
    Thanks!

I have three different accounts and at some time or another have bought apps with them all. If there is an update the Iphone automatically asks me to login with the appropriate credentials to update. They all live happily on Itunes and I can log in and out on Itunes as well with no ill effects.

  • Lost all my downloaded apps and songs due to forgetting apple password during ITunes Sync

    Hi,
I recently had a crash with my Macbook Pro. Hence I had to go back to my 1 year back TimeMachine backup. Which means my ITunes had to go back 1 year in time loosing all my downloaded songs and apps. Adding to this I connected my IPod Touch to my Macbook Pro. When the sync happened I was asked for the apple ID and password to sync my apps and songs to the ITunes in my Macbook Pro (I got a popup saying I had to authorise this computer else the data in IPod Touch would be deleted). I had to click on Forgot Password as I had forgotten my apple ID. Now happened the worst ever thing of all these. Most of the downloaded apps and songs and app data stored are removed from my iPod Touch too. Now even after authorising the computer I do not see the apps and songs which I had downloaded and moved to my IPod touch. I wish I had not synced my IPod touch after the restore from TimeMachine backup.
Now is there any way to restore my IPod touch to the same place before it synced up with ITunes of my Mac? Can i somehow get all the apps and songs and video files which had been present in my IPod Touch just before when I synced it with my Macbook?
    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Thank you Illaass,
Sorry for the delay in replying. I've not yet tried these.
I'm still depressed due to the loss of all that I stored in my IPod Touch. At least apple should have programmed it so that the apps and data get deleted only after getting a confirmation from me (only when I click yes). The current software programmed seem to be stupid because I just I clicked on Forgot password and that's not a crime so that it removes all the data.
    Thank you still for helping.

  • Transfering Apps and Songs

With my new iPhone 3G-S, will all my apps and songs transfer from my 1st Generation iPhone to the new one? Can anyone that has upgraded their iPhones answer this question for me?!? Thanks!

Everything should transfer from itunes to the new iphone.
I believe that you will have the option to use the back up from the previous iphone when you sync for the first time. This should get your settings moved onto your new iphone.

  • HT1222 Does this update delete any of your data if you already have apps and songs on your electronic?

I have an iPod with some apps and songs and pics an I was wondering of you update your iPod or iPhone if it deletes your data.

Standard Operating Procedure(SOP) for ANY computer...and the iPhone is a mini computer...you backup EVERYTHING before any OS update. You make sure all of your data is backed up & accessible BEFORE you attempt to update your phone. You do that, & you have nothing to worry about.
