Sharing ARD Admin amongst multiple users

I have Apple Remote Desktop 3.7 (now 3.7.1) installed on a Mavericks Mac and it is working fine for the first account I set it up with. I would however like other accounts on the same Mac to also be able to run ARD and see the same computer lists, scanners, etc. as the first account.
As (supposedly) ARD uses a database located at /private/var/db/RemoteManagement I thought this would be possible but it seems not. I have tried copying the files from /Users/firstaccount/Library/Application Support/Remote Desktop/ to the second account and this did not help either. There does not seem to be a preference file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist
Any suggestions on how to achieve this? I am happy that only one user account at a time would be able to run it.
My goal is to allow multiple admin users to connect via ScreenSharing to the same Mac to their own account and see the same ARD lists and settings.

I've not tried exactly what you are attempting, but I just went through the torture of moving ARD from one machine to another.  Looks like ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.RemoteDesktop may be what you are looking for.  This contains the ever important com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist for the user.  You can try moving that to the second account.
Now, the database remains single context I believe.  So while this "may" allow you to initially sync the machine list, I do not think it will stay in sync as users use it.  Hope this helps.

  • Question/Problem Sharing iTunes Library between multiple users

    Hello all,
I have a question (potential problem) regarding sharing an iTunes Library between multiple users.
In the past, I had placed the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared, and created an alias to it in the "Music" folder of each user, and it worked fine.  However, with a recent upgrade to Mac OS 10.5, only the Home user account can access the library.
I read the Apple Support Document http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203 uner Mac OS X which specifically states *not* to move the iTunes folder, just the iTunes Media folder (which I don't have, would that be iTunes Music?).
Any recommendations?  Should I delete the different alias, move the iTunes folder back to the home user, and then follow the instructions in the support document?
We're also looking to sync music purchsed on our iPod touches, as well as apps (which weren't supported in our privous Mac OS X version.
    Any advice is appreiciated.

    yes.
specifically states *not* to move the iTunes folder
*do* keep the entire iTunes folder in /users/shared, however, instead of creating aliases, launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder in /users/shared.
obviously, only one iTunes at a time can access the library !

  • Can I open file in shared mode so that multiple users can write at same tim

    Hi,
I want to write to a trace file from a user exit and BADI. But I want to create only one trace file in which multiple users can simultaneously append. Is it possible to do this? How? Code could really help as this is urgent.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi,
I think we can use the locks shared or exclusive locks concept here
you can find examples in this section on how to implement them -
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/41/7af4c5a79e11d1950f0000e82de14a/frameset.htm
There are two types of lock in the R/3 System:
    Shared lock
Shared locks (or read locks) allow you to prevent data from being changed while you are reading it. They prevent other programs from setting an exclusive lock (write lock) to change the object. It does not, however, prevent other programs from setting further read locks.
    Exclusive lock
Exclusive locks (or write locks) allow you to prevent data from being changed while you are changing it yourself. An exclusive lock, as its name suggests, locks an application object for exclusive use by the program that sets it. No other program can then set either a shared lock or an exclusive lock for the same application object.

  • Sharing IPhoto library among multiple users

I'd like to make sure that each of the user accounts on my Mac can easily access the same complete IPhoto library -- to add, edit and remove photos, and to be able to use the photos in the IWeb, GarageBand and other projects associated with those accounts. What the best way to get this to happen (and while I'm at it, I guess I'd like to do the same things with ITunes.)

    webalias rex:
There are several ways that can be done. The one that has the best success rate is to put the library on an external FW HD which the ownership set to be ignored. Here's Apple's document on that method: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users.
Here are some other methods that have been discussed.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • ARD Task Lists - Multiple Users

I have been unable to find a way to transfer ARD Tasks in the left pane to new computers / new accounts.  I am attempting to take all of my folders full of Unix scripts, Install configurations, and copy scripts and transfering them over.
I have attempted several methods found online including moving over plist files, /var/db information, and other settings but  have had no luck.
My ultimate goal is to move the configuration from an existing server to a new one, and then have it so I can transfer it to other user accounts on the same system.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    1) Create a rule and assign it in the workflow
    2) In  the rule, you can write a code to pick multiple user in the Function module
check this [link|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d053fe48-6513-2b10-a59f-871923ff99d8] to create and assign the rule. (in the function module you can write your logic to pick multiple approver)

  • Is there anyway of sharing faces data in Iphoto amongst multiple users

As an organisation we are tagging photos with faces so that we can create a gallery of names.  Is it possible to share this faces data between users?  When I export the photos to someone elses photo stream the faces data is not  transferred

How many faces will be in your gallery?
The only way to annotate shared photos is the "comment" field in a Shared Photo Stream. And the filename will be transferred. So, either comment each face when sharing, a lot of work, or add the name of the person to the filenames.
Or consider to create a separate iPhoto library for this project and send copies of the iPhoto Library to your co workers at regular intervals. If only one person needs access to the faces data at a time, you could keep the iPhoto library on a portable drive. See this support document:

  • Sharing iTunes/iPhoto with multiple users on same iMac

Sorry if this has been asked and answered (if so, could you refer me to the post).
I am trying to set my machine up so that my wife and I have different user accounts but shared access to the same iTunes and iPhoto content. I managed to do this by placing the iPhoto library and the iTunes library in the shared folder and by applying admin read and write permissions to both folders.
The problem is that when I add new photos or music to iTunes or iPhoto whilst logged into my account, when my wife (also an admin on the mac) logs in she doesn't have automatic access to the new content unless I (or she) tediously go through each individual file giving her read and write access so that she can access them in her own account. The converse is also true for her adding new media and me not having access to it.
Is there a way this can be overcome?
Hopefully this makes sense to someone.
    Thanks

  • Sharing a library between multiple user accounts on the same PC

I have an XP pc setup for the kids and each has their own login so they can have their own bookmarks, shortcuts, desktop, etc. They each have an iPod and use iTunes. I want them to share the same music library so that when one downloads or rips a song, It's available to each of them. Using the default installation, it is currently not working the way I want it to. Is what I'm describing possible? If so, how do I configure it?

You need to have all the music stored in a shared folder.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
If you move all the files around with Win Explorer, itunes will lose the paths to the files. It might be best to move everything to the shared folder and have them start over with a blank library (new ratings, playcounts)
The last lines in that article state
+When another user of the computer has imported new music from CD, repeat steps 6 through 8 to add the music to your library.+
You might want to use a little program like "itunes folder watch" to do it automatically for you.

  • Sharing Itunes Library with multiple users on same computer

Several people in my house share the same laptop and we all have our own user id. I am the administrator. How do I set up itunes so that all of the music, the entire library, is accessible to all user id's when each person is logged in? I thought I had it figured out but whenever I download new music the others don't see it, only what was already there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Give this ago, This is what I am trying at the moment and is a bit experimental, I haven't Tested it yet with iPhone/iPad/iPods sync yet. (will do this soon and will report back)
    1. BACK UP!!! (just in case) Copy your itunes folder normally found under (user - "username" - Music folder) to a usb drive or just copy it into the music folder. (in fact do a full system back up I'm guessing you haven't done it in a while)
    2. Create the new user account if not already done so. (I am setting up my other users as a new users with no existing iTunes content.)
    3. Move the itunes folder under (user - "username" - Music folder) into (user - shared)
    4. Change the read/write access to the (user - shared - iTunes folder) Right click on the folder - +Get Info+ - Under Permissions allow all the users Read & Write, Click the cog and select apply to enclosed items.
    5. Make an alias of the "iTunes folder" and move it back to your original itunes folder location +(user - "username" - Music folder)+
    6. Remove alias from the name.
    7. Start itunes check to make sure every thing is ok, play a few tracks.
    Under iTunes preferences - Advance
make sure the itunes media folder location is (user - "shared" - iTunes - iTunes Media)
I also have Keep iTune media folder organized checked
& Copy files to iTunes Media folder checked. (When music, vids, or update Apps for my iPhone/iPod, it should now show up in the other user's account)
    8. Close out of itunes User done.
    9. Log into user 2's and go to (user - shared) folder Check to make sure this user has read & write permissions. Make an alias of the "iTunes folder" and move it to user 2's music folder +(user - "username" - Music folder)+
    10. Start itunes check to make sure every thing is ok, play a few tracks.
    Under iTunes preferences - Advance
make sure the itunes media folder location is (user - "shared" - iTunes - iTunes Media)
Make sure Keep iTune media folder organized & Copy files to iTunes Media folder are checked.
Log this user into the iTunes store if need (it shouldn't effect the the other users)
    11. YOUR DONE, Unless you have more users, then just repeat steps 8, 9 ,10 (and 11 if needed)
Just note that only 1 user can access the Shared iTunes account at a time so close iTunes if you not using it.
Each user should be running off the same iTunes library now. Once you are happy with the set up and nothing has happened to your music then delete the back ups in step 1.
Hope this helps, Let me know how you get on?
I will let you know how I get on with 2 iPhones and 2 iTunes store accounts under each User syncing.
AND I cant see why this shouldn't work for iPhoto.

  • Trouble with sharing iPhoto library among multiple users

I followed the directions in this guide to share my iPhoto library between two accounts. However, it does not allow both users to open the library. One user gets a message that it is locked. I have ensured that the disk image and the library give everyone read/write access and that ownership of the volume is ignored. I've also ensured that the other user is logged out of iPhoto. However, I still get the error.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198?viewlocale=en_US
I am, however, able to share the iPhoto library if I don't use the disk image and if I just store the library in the Shared folder and by giving both users read/write access. However, I'm afraid that this will someday crash on me based on this article.
Does anyone have any experience with this??

The disk image approach looks complex. I'd avoid it. Note that all the users need to have read/write access to the disk image plus the folder that it's inside of  ...
The use of an external disk looks simplest and I've done that myself so I know that it works.
Also, here is another solution: http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/Documentation/iPLM/pgs/sharing.html

  • Sharing iPhoto library among multiple users on one machine

Take mercy on a newcomer to the Mac ...
Having recently acquired an iMac I'm now trying to set up iPhoto 8 so that the same picture library is accessible from the three user accounts I created on the machine, for the three members of the household.
I've seen some postings on this issue, which suggest rather convoluted solutions, such as using an external hard disk. I don't want to buy an external disc for this purpose; I just want to figure out a way to put my pictures in one place, and one place only, where I can organise and change them from my user, and where the other two users have at least read access.
I have tried putting my pics in the shared folder, and redirected iPhoto there from my user, which worked fine. But then from the other users I get error messages that they don't have the required priviliges.
    Grateful for any advice!

    RutgetW
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Easy: there's no need to move the library at all.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
    Regards
    TD

  • Sharing iTunes Library for multiple users on SAME PC at home.

I am running Windows XP. I want to get my wife a Shuffle for Christmas, and I'd like us to be able to share the same music library. Because of paranoia over what the kids can get to on the net (my oldest is 10) and because my wife keeps here files in a mess, we all have separate accounts on my home machine.
I turned on sharing in iTunes in my account, but none of my music library if visible when I launch iTunes in her account. Is there a way what I want to do?

  • Sharing iTunes Library Among Multiple User's on the Same Computer

OK, so I've followed the instructions in iTunes article HT1203 to set up my laptop to share a common iTunes library but for whatever reason it won't open. Here's what I did:
Backed up the iTunes library to DVD from the old system
Restored the DVD to the new laptop
Located the iTunes folder in \Users\Dennis\Music\
    Dragged it to \Users\Public\Public Music
    Opened iTunes
Editted the Preference Advanced tab to change the location of the music folder to \Users\Public\Public Music
    Closed the preferences
No music is displayed. I know it's there because when I opened iTunes BEFORE I moved the folder it showed all of the music titles I was expecting to see.
I even went out and changed the Security on \Users\Public\Public Music to Full Control for all users (only two) and it had no effect. What am I missing?
    Thanks for you advice.

iTunes always uses the last ITL databse file it used from before, unless it can't find it....in which case, it makes a new library ITL file that's blank.
When you dragged the ituness folder to the public foder, I think it confused itunes.
Try a shift-start of itunes and select the ITL file in the public folder.
Press *AND HOLD* the shift key while starting itunes until you see a prompt to choose or create a library. Browse to that public folder and choose its ITL file.
