Sharing between versions (iphoto 6 to iphoto 5)
I need help sharing between iPhoto 6 (the sharer) and iPhoto 5 (the consumer).
I have a large library in iPhoto 5 (5.0.4) on my iMac and my wife has a smaller library on her new Mac Book that came with iPhoto 6 (6.0.6).
On her Mac Book, I have turned on sharing in iPhoto 6 and I can see the library in the list on my iMac with iPhoto 5, but when I try to click it, I get a beach ball. The only way to get out of it is to click on one of the local photo albums in the list and eventually iPhoto 5 switches over to one of those.
The iPhoto 6 library has less than 600 photos and 2 <4 min. movies in it, coming in at just over 1 GB. I have waited several minutes but the beach ball does not go away.

P.S. Just before I sent this, I restarted iPhoto 5 on the iMac and bang, it is showing the iPhoto 6 share like a champ. I have changed this from a question to a post incase others run into this issue.

Since you're going from V6 just copy the Originals folder from your V6 library to your G3 desktop. Then make sure the ownership and permissions on that folder and it's contents are correct by the following: download and run BatChmod on the Originals folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Now all you have to do is drag each folder inside the Originals folder into the open window of your V5 iPHoto library. That should get them all into your G3 library.

Help! I have an iMac 24" OSX version 10.6.8. My iphoto is having problems. It will not open properly. All I get is the little wheel going around and around. My iphoto is: iphoto'11 version 9.2.3(629.52). What do I need to do to remedy this? I recently installed InstallMac. I don't want this on my computer. I don't know how to get it off. I'm afraid that is what scrogged my iphoto. Can anyone tell me how to correct this situation?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I shared disk space and my iPhoto library as described in this article. When creating the disk image, I thought I had set aside enough space to allow for growth (50G). I'm running out of space. What's the best way to increase the disk image size?

The sparse image article you sent a link to needs a little updating (or there's some variability in prompts (no password was required) with my OS and/or Disk Utility version), but it worked.
Phew! It would have been much more time consuming to use Time Machine to recover all my photos after repartitioning the drive. -
Difference between importing images from iphoto via drag & drop vs 'media' button
Hi (long time reader of this community, but my first post),
i'm creating a huge document (approximately 200 pages) in Pages (5.0.1, Using Maverick on a 27 inch iMac).
In the new version of Pages the "Media" button only produces small images that makes it difficult for me to choose which photo i want.
Is there a difference between importing images from iphoto drag & drop vs 'media' button.
Or is it better to just drag and drop the original jpegs (which i also have in a folder).
Is Pages the best program to use for this type of project? it is a profolio with about 4 photos, text, text boxes etc on each of the 200+ pages.
any help much appreciated.Pages 4.3 might be up to the job. I very much doubt Page 5.0.1 is. It lacks more than 90 features of its predecessor and is very buggy to boot. You probably have an iwork09 folder in your Applications folder. I suggest you trash Pages 5.0.1 and use Pages 4.3 until Apple makestheir new "Eddie Cue" ready for prime time (if, that is, they ever do).

Now that the photo gallery in MobileMe is ending, is there another photo sharing site to which existing iPhoto albums can be transferred as is, with photos in the same order and with titles, and with minimal problems?
No. If you don't have the album you originally used to create the galleries you can do so by dragging the photos from each gallery to a new, empty album. Then when you find the photo sharing site/option you have decided on you can easily upload each album to the site.
Another option is to obtain a hosting service and create iWeb photo pages for each album and future albums similar to this photo page in one of my demo sites: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow. Or you can use the iWeb album page and have an album for each iPhoto album on it like on this demo page: Page-7 .

Importing edited version back into iPhoto
I have certain photos that I keep in iPhoto. I was in Aperture and dragged a couple photos over for editing purposes. Now, when I want to bring the new version back into iPhoto it is not showing up in the Aperture library browser within iPhoto. I have Aperture 3.0.1 and iPhoto 09.

Sharing Process Servers Between Version
The CPS version at my company is 6.0.2. We are going to a later version of CPS (7 or 8, not sure yet) and want to know if the process servers can be shared between the 6 version and the 7 or 8 version. We are wanting to migrate jobs gradually instead of the big bang approach. We have a fair amount of complex jobs that will take considerable time to upgrade and test in the new version. The goal is to keep the current number of process servers to minimize the cost of moving to the newer version. Any information would be appreciated.

If you are looking for the option to have Process Servers of two versions on the same box: that is possible to a large extend. You do need to take special care to separate the environments used by the process servers if you install v6 and v7 on the same box. On Unix this is easy, on Windows this is more work.
V6 (or V7) and V8 Process Servers on the same box is no problem, both on Unix and Windows.
In both cases, this may help preparing for the upgrade, as a lot of the installation work can be done before the actual upgrade.
Coming to your gradual migration question: you cannot have Process Servers of one version connect to a repository of another version. So this means that in order to keep the migration simple, you would need to migrate complete flows from one repository to another repository.
Although technically it is possible to migrate partial flows and create dependencies between the partial flows in different repositories (through events for example), but this makes monitoring and maintenance much more complex.
Due to the large number of dependencies that tend to exist between applications in complex environments, the above logic can result in the situation that if you migrate one flow, almost all the others have to be migrated as well due to the inter-dependencies.
Without knowing more about your environment, it is a bit difficult to suggest the best approach. Sometimes customers start with a new version of CPS on a new set of processes that needs to be implemented, sometimes on another new application that has to be implemented, and then later they add the existing processes.
Most of the times, customers upgrade the full environment in one go, also in complex environments, of course after proper testing in the test environment and proper preparation.

Insufficient privledges when sharing between iMac and Powerbook
I just upgraded both my powerbook and iMac to Leopard and want to turn on file sharing between the two. The way it used to work with Tiger, I would just click on the drive on my network and it would give me read and write privledges. Now it is saying that I have insufficient privledges. I can get the powerbook to mount the iMac and vice versa but can't seem to do much else.
I am trying to move my iPhoto library from my Powerbook to my iMac.
ThanksIf you are trying to write directly into the iPhoto Library, note that it is not a regular folder but a package. The permissions on the iPhoto Library package only allow writing by the owner, so another approach is needed, such as those mentioned in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198

It seems that the problem lies in your router. I'm not sure exactly what the issue is (I've just now discovered it myself), but after switching from a Linksys WRT54GX2 to a thrift store Netgear, my shared libraries appeared instantly. My gut is telling me that the Linksys routers are blocking the multicast traffic, which is stupid on Linksys's part, to filter traffic internally. I'll look more into the Netgear and see what it has that the Linksys doesn't (or vice versa). -
File Sharing between macbook pro and imac
Hello,
I'm having trouble with file sharing between my bankbook pro and my new iMac. I want to share some photos on my iPhoto library from my macbook pro and transfer them to my iMac. I've turned on file sharing and tried connecting, entered in my username and password, but it won't connect. I've tried several times with the correct username and password combination, and the box just shakes and denies entry. I've even tried connecting as a guest user and it says "access is denied, contact system administrator." Can anyone help? I've upgraded to Yosemite on both computers.

I even tried using airdrop to transfer files, but nothing seems to be working. I've made sure the firewall options are what they're supposed to be and everything. Whenever I try to login as administrator to file share, it won't accept my password. I don't know why airdrop isn't working either.

Upgraded to Yosemite. Upgraded iPhoto. iPhoto library needs upgrade. Stops responding.
I have a Mac Pro Early 2008 that I upgraded to Yosemite. iPhoto stops responding every time I try to upgrade the library. It hangs on the Upgrading iPhoto Database. I have an extensive library of photos and wonder if it is a memory issue. Anyone experienced this?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

i couldn't update 10.8.1 to 10.8.2.
The AppStore.app couldn't find the updates about Mo...Lion. Just iPhoto,
and iPhoto couldn't update too, because it depends on osx 10.8.2!!!Do you have one of those newer Macs which require a special update? From other posts, it seems there are now three different OS versions/updates - each one of specific Macs.
I'd call Apple and give them your serial number as well as - important - your build number (click on the Apple and About this Mac; under Mac OS X, click on the numbers until you get to build .......)

Home Sharing between Windows Vista and Windows 8
I am trying to carry out Home Sharing between my old Windows Vista laptop and my new Windows 8 laptop. I have followed all the instructions and both have HS switched on. I can see my W8 library from my WV laptop but I cannot see my WV library from my W8 laptop.
An additional question is I do not have a Podcast button on my Windows 8 iTunes whereas it is on the Windows Vista iTunes.
Can anyone assist me in finding a resolution????I have been having this exact issue the past 2 days, and I've tried everything within my knowledge, but to no avail. Both Home Sharing computers are on the same network, logged into Home Sharing with the same Apple account, and both computers are authorized for that account. I'm afraid this may just be an issue with the recent iTunes update. Before this recent version, the 2 computers I'm trying to share between did so just fine. Now, the connection is only working one way. I think this will just have to be resolved on Apple's part upon a new iTunes update. Hopefully. Another reason may be the difference in computer operating software (Windows Vista vs. Windows 8) and the inability to communicate between the two (This can happen since the older OS may not be capable of communicating with the newer OS, while the newer OS MAY be capable of communicating with older OS versions). Therefore, a new update would be required from Apple to fix this error. As for your issue in not seeing the Podcast button, try this:
If you have version 11.0.1:
1) Click the very upper left icon in the window.
2) Click "Preferences..." (Or hit keys [CTRL] + [,])
3) Click the tab labeled "General" on the window that pops up.
4) There should be a list of check boxes, each labeled a different component of iTunes. (Music, Movies, etc.)
5) Make sure the checkbox labeled "Podcasts" is checked.
6) Click the "OK" button in the bottom right of the window to save changes and close the window.
If you have an earlier version, follow the EXACT same process as above, except step 1 will be different:
1) Click "File in the upper left corner.

I'm currently using Eclipse and JCOP plugin for applet development, and I'm looking for solutions on how to share custom libraries between applets. I'm particularly not looking for interface sharing between applets, but more how to organize the source code so I can include common custom classes in different applets (e.g. generic ASN1 parsing library, signature library etc)

But I have stumbled upon a couple of problem wrt this approach which I can't quite isolate:
1. I've got a shell script which basically "tags" a package before build with the SVN version number, and if there are local modifications. This code is auto-generated in a file called svnversion.java inside commonlib package:

When this code was in the same package as the applet, I had no problem accessing the TAG byte array, but after separating the applet and the commonlib in two separate packages, I get SW 0x6f00 whenever I touch the TAG byte array from my applet. I can access the MODIFIED variable, but not the TAG byte array.
(EDIT: Since commonlib declare TAG as a static final byte array, and final cannot be set to null upon release, maybe this is the cause for my memory leaks?)
2. I try to keep everything in commonlib static, and I've added an install() and release() hook in commonlib which keeps track of reference counter and acquire and release memory. Upon release I set every static variable to null. And I call commonlib.install() from the applet, and use AppletEvent and do commonlib.release() upon uninstall. But still it seems I fail to clean-up properly, because I end up in situations where I'm unable to delete the card content - presumably because a memory leak. So I have a few questions related to that:
a) How do I debug memory leaks?
b) In commonlib, if I do:

Any issues with file sharing between Windows and latest Mac client?
We're running Lync 2013. My Windows client is 15.0.4551.1005. Mac client is version 14.0.8.
I open a conversation with a coworker on his Mac. I then try to share a png file. He clicks accept but then my client says the attempt timed out, and his client says that I canceled the file transfer. The coworker then boots the Mac into Windows and we try
again, and the file share works fine. When I jump on my Mac, I can send files to his Mac without issue. When he tries to send from his Mac to my PC it fails, but when he tries to send from Windows on his Mac to my PC, it works.
I can't find anything specific in the logs that would indicate a firewall issue. Is there a bug with file sharing between the Mac and PC clients?

When uploading video from go pro and sonyhandy cam, takes forever and clips says hidden camera
Tried to upload video from sony handycam and also gopro...takes hours, and only can view the first half of clips. The rest of the clips have ? and say hidden camera. This is in Imovie. Both camera's are on the imovie compatible list. Any ideas?
