Sharing iPhoto Book - Burning to DVD

To celebrate and document our grandson's 1st year of life I made an iPhoto book for his parents. I was VERY PLEASED with both the service and the results. Now, as I prepare to switch from iPhoto to Aperture 2, I don't want to lose my Master Copy of this book. So, I clicked Share, and then burned it to a DVD .... neat. `Only problem is the audio. It seems that "Pachelbel Canon" is automatic ... either because that's what I chose for a wedding DVD I made just before burning the baby's book, or because it's an automatic choice from Apple. I would much prefer to have some of our grandson's favourite music as the background audio. However, no matter what I do, it always comes back as Pachelbel.
.....What I read says to drag chosen songs to the audio icon. However, unlike for a regular slide show, when burning the book slide show there is no audio icon. ... audio pit, I think it was called.
So - Thinking I would have better control of the audio if I started from scratch ...... Instead of clicking "Share" and having Apple copy the book to DVD as a slide show, I tried dragging in one page at a time. `Didn't work because the pages dragged in as doubles.
`Anyone got a solution? ... Or is a Pachelbel Canon audio the only choice with a book?
Thanks!

You photos are not corrupted but the library's database file is. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

  • Sharing iPhoto Book File

We used iPhoto and ordered an iPhoto book that we received a few days ago. My niece in Houston Tx. (she just bought her first Mac) would like to see the book. I was wondering if there is a file I could e-mail or burn to DVD, so she can open the book up in iPhoto. I did save the file as a PDF (too large to e-mail, so I put it on a DVD, 34.5meg)and can send that, but I wanted to try to have her see it as an iPhoto book...
    thanks...

    Paul:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. With the new iPhoto folder configuration it's a little easier to backup a library in parts. But, the key item here is to be able to reconstruct the iPhoto LIbrary folder exactly as it is now on your HD. This method of backup will only allow you to recreate your library as a separate entity, not add these photos to a new library.
If you use the iPhoto Share->Burn menu option you can burn selected rolls (enough to fill a DVD disk) and the resulting disk will allow you to mount that disk in iPhoto to view and/or copy files back into the working library (see Example 1). Keywords and comments will be preserved for those photos. The example was a disc containing an entire test library so the slideshow were on the disk also. There is one gotcha you have to watch out for. The size of the burn as reported in iPhoto in the Info window is way less than what will be burned. That's because iPhoto does not take into account the thumbnail files, Modified files, data files, etc. that get burned along with the image files. So if you go this route and start selecting rolls, I would stop somewhere around 4.2G to be on the safe side. My test library is reported by iPhoto at 451 MB whereas the Finder sees 560 MB. So you see the problem.
If you just want a copy of your current library you can select as many of the Roll folder in the original folder for the first burn to disk. Then burn the remaining rolls to the next disk. If there's room on the next disk burn the entire Modified folder. If not burn the modified folder and all other files in the iPhoto library to another disk. You might want to color code them with labels to make the copy and reconstruction easier. You'll just have to work out what fits and what doesn't without missing any files.
You can check the sizes of the various folders and sub folders in the Finder beforehand and color code those that will fit on the first disk, etc. Again, let me emphasize that the key is reassembling the parts in the correct configuration.
    Good luck.

  • Sharing iphoto book

How can I share my iphoto book so others can buy it?  Created a book for the family but I cannot buy books for everyone.  I want other family members to view and buy the book.

You would have to give them the iPhoto library you used to create and order the book and they would have to have a Mac and the same version of iPhoto in order to open and use the library.
An alternative would be to create a PDF file of the book and send that pdf file to other family members to view.  Then they could order the book thru you.
To create a small library that would be easy to send to others see this tutorial: 09 - Archiving an iPhoto Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date.
You then drag the archived/small library onto a blank CD/DVD mounted on the Desktop and burn the library to the disc. Do not use the Share ➙ Burn menu option in iPhoto. Then mail the disc to the family members who would drag the book library from the disc to the Desktop and open it with iPhoto to order a book for themselves.  Remember only Mac users could make use of the library.
A possible alternate would be to create a video DVD of the book complete with music.  How to accomplish that is described in this tutorial: 06 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book. The book could then be viewed on a TV set.  I create one of these DVDs go accompany every photo book I create and give as a present.

  • Problem with iPhoto files burned to DVD

I just installed my iLife '06. I want to back up my digital photos on DVD's. I've tried both DVD-R and DVD+R to burn to. They burn through completion stating when finished, that the DVD was burned successfully. When I re-insert back into the CD player, no disk image appears, and the CD player doesn't engage whatsoever. After 30seconds. it's ejected.
My intention is strictly to back up the photo and related data files. I'ld like to actually eventually delete them altogether from iPhoto, to free up some space...once I know I've got it all on a disk.
It plays commercially purchased DVD's just fine, as well as Burned CD's.
    My profiler shows I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVD-1060
    DVD-Write -R, -RW +R, +RW.
How do I determine what is really wrong, and correct it?
(I originally posted this in a different forum and it was suggested that this forum would be more appropriate for my question. Sorry for the redundancy)

    As of yet, no.
I just attempted to burn a DVD using a DVD-R. I selected a goup of photos from iPhoto and drug them to a burnfolder on my desktop. I selected: file>burndisk.
After the "burn" was completed, the DVD disk image with the burnfolder title was still on the desktop. I ejected it and then re-loaded it. Again, there was no response from the CD drive (no sound or movement), no disk image appeared on the desktop, and no disk image appeared on the Disk Utilities window which I had kept open to monitor it. After 30 seconds the disk drawer opened on its own.
Considering how inexpensive a new and upgraded optical drive is, maybe I should just replace it, though I would still like to discover what the cause this current problem is, regardless.

  • IPhoto and Burning a DVD

I'd like to get my old photos off of my hard drive, and on to a DVD...But I'm new and nervous.
If I burn them onto DVD, and then erase them from my hard drive, can I move them back on to iPhoto at a later date?
I guess I'm nervous that once I take them off my hard drive, I'll never be able to see them again. Can somebody help me out with some info?
Maybe there are some tips out there for storage?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, you can burn your photos to a DVD, and then transfer them back to you iMac later if you wish. Here is an excerpt from an Apple article on the subject:
"Question 5: Can I burn a CD or DVD to back up my iPhoto library?
Answer: Yes, you can easily back up your iPhoto library by using the CD burning capabilities of Mac OS X. Simply insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use iDVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac."
Another option is to purchase an external hard disk on which to store your photographs.
    I hope this helps.

  • Iphoto slideshow - burn to DVD.

I am so frustrated - one of the reasons for buying iMac was to put photos into slideshow format.  I have a slideshow in iPhoto, hooked up with iTunes music.  It plays perfectly.
I have researched how to get from the iMac onto DVD.  I export the file as directed, and go into iDVD and burn a movie to disc (without using the iDVD capability as I do not want to make a new movie).
With about one minute left to run, the DVD is ejected but the pc thinks that it is still burning the movie.  The DVD has nothing on it at all.
I have tried several times and cannot believe it is this difficult to get a slideshow onto DVD.
Someone out there must have done this before!
    Appreciate any help.

go into iDVD and burn a movie to disc (without using the iDVD capability as I do not want to make a new movie).
That statement is a bit contradictory.  How can you burn a movie to disk in iDVD without using iDVD?
Do you mean no using iDVD's slideshow which you obtain via the "+" button at the bottom?
I'm assuming you end up with a QT movie of your slideshow in iDVD.  So, if that's the case do the following:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.
If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Combining 2 different iphoto "books"?

My friend and I would like to collaborate on a photo book. Is there a way for each of us to create iphoto Book files and then import individual pages from one computer to another to create a single, master iphoto book? (Via burning the entire iphoto book onto a dvd?)
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can combine the content into the same library and have it authorised to play back, but you cannot change the ownership.
Adding content from one library to the other can be achieved in a variety of ways, are your two libraries on different computers or in different user accounts on the same computer.

  • How do I create a shared library from iPhoto when the file is too large to burn on DVD?

I  need to remove some photos (70 GB) to relieve a full hard drive.  I have exported and burned .jpg images on DVDs, but that is only useful as a worst case backup.  What I would like to have is a separate iPhoto Library for each calendar year of photos, so I could still view them in the albums and folders I have created to organize them.  I have done this before in an earlier version of iPhoto, and was able to create 2003 iPhoto Library, 2004 iPhoto Library, etc.  I put a copy on DVD (the full year fit on 1 DVD) and another copy on an external drive.
I am having problems doing this with iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2).  The iPhoto library for each year is too large to burn on DVD.  When I select certain albums from the year that will fit on DVD and use the Share>Burn commands, it creates a library with Events and Faces, but none of the albums are listed on the left.  The albums are important to organize the photos for viewing (birthdays, vacations, holidays, etc.)  I didn't always pay attention to labeling Events when I imported photos, so that is not an adequate alternative to my albums.
I was thinking that if I could create a library for the entire year, it might include my albums and folders. I would have space for this on my external hard drive.  However, I can find no way to create a library for the entire year and put it on my external drive - the only option is to burn a DVD or export .jpg images.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best suggestion: Buy some external USB or Firewire drives. Move your Library to one, back it up to another. A lot more reliable than DVD, a lot less work and much more convenient. For a start, you don't have to break up the library...

  • Backup IPHOTO Book to Cd or DVD to Save?

After creating an Iphoto book, is there a way to save the project to CD or DVD to save ?
    Thanks

    tw:
The only way I've found is to duplicate the iPhoto Library folder, open it by launching iPhoto with the Option key depressed and select it when asked. Then delete all of the photos in the library except those that are in the book. Now burn that iPhoto Library folder to a CD via the Finder.
Later if you want to order another book just copy that library folder to the desktop, open it with iPhoto and order. I create a separate library for each book and export the photos I need from the working library and import into the book library. Then it's simple to burn that folder to disk when completed.
To make getting photos from one library to the other easier you can use iPhoto Library Manager. Just put the photos in an album and copy the album from one to the other.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Burning a copy of my iPhoto book

I am having a problem burning an iPhoto book I made to a DVD. When I send the book to iDVD. The book shows up in the media section under movies. I am using Version 6.

    Brenda:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If it's not anywhere in the menu window under the name of the book in iPhoto, try opening iDVD first, then go to iPhoto and do the share to iDVD. If that doesn't work you can check in your Movies folder, find the movie file and drag it into the iDVD menu window.

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork.  Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary.  Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto.  From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

You would have to import them to iPhoto, iPhoto cannot work with images that are not in its library.
You might try some of the other viewers out there.
