Shell command for mailbox DB, and public folder DB

Are there any exchange shell commands that will list all mailbox databases on a server, including name, path where it resides and size.
Same for public folder database(s).

There you GO...
Get-MailboxDatabase –Status | format-table Name,Server,LogFolderPath,EdbFilePath,DatabaseSize
Get-PublicFolderDatabase –Status | format-table Name,Server,LogFolderPath,EdbFilePath,DatabaseSize

  • Exchange server 2013 supported mailbox databases and public folder databases

I want to know about Exchange server 2013 SP1 Standard and Enterprise version support how many Mailbox databases and Public folder Databases? Total Mailbox and Public folder databases supported information.
I Know as below but not clear:
    1) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Sandard edition support 5 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=5 or 5 mailbox databases+5 public folder databases=10 databases
    2) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Enterprise edition support 100 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=100 or 100 mailbox databases+100 public folder databases=200 databases
    kindly let me know. Thanks.

  • Move Mailbox database and Public Folder database from VMwar RDM drive to VMware VMFS/VMDK Drive

    Good Afternoon,
So I have 1 DAG with 3 mailbox server (1 physical and 2 Virtual (vmware)).  The Vmware server Mailbox and Public folder databases/logs are currently on RDM drive.  I need to get rid of the RDM drives and use VMFS/Vmdk drives for mailbox and public
folder databases.  I was thinking 3 options:
1- Introduce new VM Members into DAG and simply give these new VMs VMFS/VMDK drives, add servers into DAG and have DAG replicate databases to new server.  I really don't want to do this.
2-On current VM, delete RDM drive along with database, add VMFS/VMDK drive replacement and have the DAG copy database.
3- On current VM, suspend replication, copy database/logs in temp location, delete the RDM drive, create the VMFS/VMDK drive, copy the database and logs to new drive, enable replication.  Do the same for public folder database/logs, but not sure how
to stop/start replications, since its not in DAG?
I'm looking for solution that will take least amount of time.  Option 3 seems best solution, but not sure if there any gotchas.. What are you thought??
Thanks in advance for you help

Take the database offline means stop replications to the the passive mailbox server?
Also, what is procedure to take public folder offline.  We have public folder replicated on all 3 servers.
    Hi cuttabutta,
Yes, take the database offline on the passive server can stop replication from primary server.
you can also take the public folder database offline to stop replication.
In addition, you can refer to the following article to configure public folder replication:

    Hi,
This is not possible in WD. That is because you cannot trigger anything on the client side in WD.

  • Mailbox and public folder backup frequency

    I appreciate this is very much organisation specific, but out of interest;
    1) how often do you do full backups of your mailbox databases..
    2) how often do you do incremental backups of your mailbox database(s)..
    3) how often do you do full backups of your public folder database(s)..
    4) how often do you do incremetial backups of your public folder database(s)..

You are right - this is going to depend highly on your organization - and more about how much redundancy is built into your system than anything else.  I have built Exchange solutions for many corporations (5000 to 200,000+ desktops) and have seen everything
from "we will backup daily and delete the backups the next day" (a legal firm who wanted no historic data kept in their system) to "we will backup every day and save two weeks, and save a weekly backup for six months and save a monthly backup for six years"
(can't remember who did that one).  My previous employer (20,000 seats) had Exchange 2010, and have about 100 databases (200GB limit) with three copies of each database (two local for HA, one elsewhere for DR), and did daily backups that were
kept for a week.  My current employer (13,000 seats) has Exchange 2010 with 24 databases (2TB limit) with four database copies (three local for HA, one in another datacenter for DR, and two DAGs that mirror each other, so both datacenters host
active mailboxes), and we have no backups.
Oh, and for both of my recent employers, we have no public folders.  Just another thing to break down that we don't need to worry about.  (-:

  • Resources and public folder database - migration from 2007 to 2013

We migrated our resource mailboxes thru the move mailboxes in 2013 EAC but now we're at the point of decommissioning our 2007 servers.  Before the actual decommission we stopped all 2007 services and dismounted all 2007 databases.  Once we did
this the resources would no longer work - errors pertaining to cannot directly book the resource.
I had to bring up the public folder database for the moved resources to work again.  We do not use public folders any longer so we did not do any type of public folder migration.  Do I need to do this for the resources to work?

    Hi,
Could you please tell me your Outlook version?
I saw someone got the following error when he tried to book resource after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, if Outlook version is Outlook 2007. But Outlook 2010 worked well.
"Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting."
Please switch between online and cached mode to check the result. And please check if this issue occurs in OWA.
If possible, please use Outlook 2010 to check the result.

  • MT Exchange 2013 and Public Folder Limits

So having some real trouble trying to digest this data from a multi-tenant perspective.
    Total public folders in hierarchy
    10,000
Although you can create more than 10,000 public folders, it isn’t supported. Create
    a Public Folder
    Sub-folders under the parent folder
    10,000
Although you can create more than 10,000 sub-folders under a parent folder, it isn’t supported.FolderHierarchyChildrenCountReceiveQuota parameter on the Set-Mailbox cmdlet.
So if my hierarchy consists of root folders 0-9,A-Z.  Then below those top levels I place tenant domain level folders.  Then below that I actually have folders for tenant data.  Which of the above category applies?  Sub-folders under
the parent folder is somewhat misleading?  Does that mean in my above scenario I would only have 36 "parent" folders then would be able to have a total of 10k subfolders under those parents?
Or does it effectively mean 10k folders, that is all.  One parent folder and 9,999 sub-folders?  Or some combination of the two?
I had very high expectations for the redesigned public folders with incorporation into the DAG, but this solution seems MUCH less scalable and flexible then the legacy design.  Additionally the recommendation of 2k concurrent users per PF mailbox, with
a max number of PF mailboxes at 100 effectively sets an org limit of 200k total mailboxes.
I can't help but feel this is just another nail in the coffin of non O365 Exchange resellers.

    Hi,
Based on my research,  the public folder size can be up to 100GB in the hosted Exchange 2013 environment:
    http://www.wisnet.com/blog/hosted-exchange-2013-is-available-now/
As long as the total number is beyond the limit, we can at most have 100 public folder mailboxes ,10k public folders, 10k subfolders under one public folder and 200 concurrent users for one public folder mailboxes.
For more information about the public folders in Exchange 2013, you can refer to the following articles:

  • Difference between File Sharing, Dropbox, and Public Folder?

I have this MBP out front & my Mac Mini in back. I'm comparatively new to networking, altho I've used File Sharing (FS) & Dropbox (Db). It seems now, there are a myriad of ways to sync my two computers. (ICloud is also used, just for Mail & iCal, since those are the only two I have that Apple allows on iCloud. I have the computers networked w/ an Airport Extreme. That all works flawlessly.)
I'm aware of Apple's Drop Box, but it doesn't work since the two computers are over 30' apart.
The three subject features all do the same thing, I believe, so along with this question, I'm asking which of the 3 is preferable. Dropbox confuses me because it refers to the Public Folder, when it seems only necessary to drag a file to the Db folder, rather than the Public Folder. Anyone know where the Public Folder fits into the Db scheme of things? Or even into the FS scheme of things? Or even into the total file sharing/snycing landscape? My hunch is to ignore the Public Folder.
As to File Sharing, if I opt for this, then I don't need Db or the Public Folder. Right? The problem w/ FS is that both machines need to be up & running (and not in a Sleep mode). Also, FS is irrelevant when it comes to the Web. On top of all this, most apps come w/ the capability to upload files, photos, etc., for the Web. I'm in a situation where I need to keep track of what I'm sharing, whether it be through FS, Dropbox, or the Public Folder.
I would really like to simplify my workflow by settling on just one means of syncing my two computers. I'm aware that Db is good for sharing files not only between my 2 Macs, but putting stuff on the Web.
How do some of you share data between computers? What do you go with? All 3, 2, or just one? How do you keep things straight?

I'm aware of Apple's Drop Box...
    You mean AirDrop.
The three subject features all do the same thing, I believe...
    No, they're entirely different.
File Sharing is a file service that works over a local network.
Dropbox, which I've never used, is a cloud-based storage and file-synchronization service.
The Public Folder is the subfolder of your home folder that's accessible to other users of the same computer, and also to other users on the network if File Sharing is active. (The term "Public Folder" may have another meaning in the context of Dropbox.)
How do some of you share data between computers?
There are many ways to do that, in addition to the ones you mentioned. It's not really clear what your requirements are.

  • Need a power shell command for Front End fail over?

We have a Lync 2013 infrastructure with 2 front ends and 2 edges.
The environment was setup by a partner and the servers were configured for failover in case one goes down in the pool.
However the last time windows updates were applied and the primary FE had to be restarted, the secondary FE did not automatically switch over as the active server and it caused a companywide outage.
In speaking with the contractor, they said that well no it would not automatically do this, you need to run a Lync PowerShell to have it switch over.
My BS radar went off, but I wanted to ask you if this sounds right or is possible.
If it must be done, could you give me the power shell command.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Did you solve the issue with the help of the people above provided?
If you use a Lync server Enterprise edition, it is recommended to deploy at least three FE servers.
If you use two Lync server Standard edition for DR,
when one of the servers fails in the Pool Pair, the administrator need to manually failover the pool to the other member of the Pool Pair using the
    command: Invoke-CsPoolFailover -PoolFQDN <Pool1 FQDN> -DisasterMode -Verbose
The Automatic failover and failback for
Voice option and the associated time intervals in Topology Builder apply only to the voice resiliency features that were introduced in Lync Server 2010. Selecting this option does not imply that the pool failover discussed in this document is automatic.
Pool failover and failback always require an administrator to manually invoke the failover and failback.
You can refer to the link below about how to failover a pool:

Does it help, yes and no.  FYI, we are running Enterprise Edition front ends for our single pool.  The new environment was setup as a proof of concept and we installed the bare minimum # of servers at the time.
The articles suggested from above pretty much just say if one of your FE's goes down, bring it back up as soon as possible.  Both of our FE's need windows updates applied ASAP and it could an hour or more (likely).  Here is a quote from the article:
If for some reason you need to bring both servers down at the same time, do the following when the downtime for the pool is finished:
The best practice is to restart both Front End Servers at the same time.
If the two servers cannot be restarted at the same time, you should bring them back up in the reverse order of the order they went down.
If you cannot bring them back up in that order, then use the following cmdlet before bringing the pool back up:
    Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState -ResetType QuorumLossRecovery -PoolFQDN <FQDN>
The last time the main FE went down for service, we left the secondary FE on but there was still an outage.  Then brought back the formerly active FE fist and service was restored.  Basically I need to know how to switch the passive to the active
node before/while the primary is offline.  And if required once both FE's are back up, to switch the service from the secondary that became active, back to the primary server as it was before.  Make sense?  Perhaps I'm still missing something
after reading the articles.  The powershell commands list just updating the topology after both servers come back online.

  • Wanted: shell command for disabling shutdowns

    Hi @ all,
I'm administering a little workgroup. Unfortunately most of them shut down their machines before going home.
I found a way diabling the shutdown possibility (click on shutdown button doesnt invoke anything) by using Onyx.
But I would like to diable this functions for all users without the need of installing Onyx on each and every machine.
I'm certain that there must be a shell command, but I just wasnt able to google it up.
Thanks for any help in advance
    joh

    Consider this link: http://bit.ly/bPiNDF
Granted, it's for 10.5, but it should remain viable. I shouldn't need to remind you to test this on a non-production system first =)
Just remember that even if you DO manage to make it very difficult for users to shutdown the system, users are very persistent, and you may soon find machines that are shutdown via the cord being pulled from the wall.
It may be better to issue a policy that states that shutting down their machine is "wrong" or something to that effect.

Or contact Andy Rogerson from Zebra Technologies, who is the Integration Architect for SAP Solutions. His work email is [email protected] if you need further help. I have notified for myself his contact data from other similiar problem.

  • Commands for back, play and next button.

I used to have three quicklaunch shortcuts, where I could change the song.
Now I cant remember what the commands are?
basicly they are just shortcuts to itunes.exe and some command for the buttons at the end.

AFAIK, you cannot use arguments to itunes.exe to control iTunes -- you can only add songs to the library.
You can, however, control iTunes with scripts (VBS, JS, etc.). For example, here's a series of scripts you can use:

(see the "documentation" link on that page for how to use them)

  • Commands for STOPPING admin and managed servers

I am writing a script for our application, which apart from building and
deploying application, also needs to stop and start both admin and managed
servers. Is there any command available for properly stopping the weblogic
servers? ( something that "initiates the shutdown")
    Thanks

sorry i haven't moved up to 6.0 yet, so i don't know much about it :(
hope someone else can help you there

Have you tried it. I founf a note on other newsgroup that this does not work
for maged servers. Do you know the solution? Does it work for you?

i don't know if this is what you are looking for, but to stop wl 5.10
you just need to run the weblogic.Admin class
    like this
    java weblogic.Admin "t3://yourserver:7001" SHUTDOWN <username> <password>

  • Petition: Dual firmware, for both tag and file/folder supp

    Hi folks,
The basis of this petition is for Creative to create a firmware for their larger disk Zen players that supports both file/folder based browsing AND tag based browsing.
Similar to at least one of iRi'ver's players the idea is that this would be switchable, so you work in either mode (not both at the same time).
Are you interested? If so sign it
Edit: Just to make this a little clearer, I'm also advocating that when in the file/folder browsing mode the player acts as a USB mass storage device (a dri've letter). For tag based browsing of course a driver will be necessary.Message Edited by SSR on 0-2-2005 02:23 PM

DM wrote:I'm not sure if the MTP versions work as a UMS as well, or if its strictly MTP.Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone here.... But I dont think its possible to get both MTP and UMS on one device using one storage media. It is however possible to have MTP and have a view on the player so that you can see ALL the files on it.
My son has a (US) iRi'ver H0 which is MTP so maybe I can help clear this up.
By default, the H0 boots into MTP mode (which requires WinXP + WMP0). It shows as a device in My Computer (not a dri've letter) and you can drag and drop music and/or data onto the device. When you use the player, you have a choice of browsing the music by the tag database (faster) or browsing through folders (slower).
You can also boot the H0 in UMS mode (which does <EM>not</EM> require Win XP) by holding down a button while turning it on. In this mode, the player shows up as a dri've letter in My Computer. It's similar to the Removable Storage mode of the Micro, et. al., but you can also copy music (non-DRM) and you don't need to create a seperate partition. Now, if you were to stop there and disconnect the player as normal, you would only be able to browse through folders on the player (no database index has been created). However, you can download a free opensource utility to create the associated index files to allow you to browse the tag database also.
So, in this regard, iRi'ver's solution is the best of both worlds. You can copy music (non-DRM) and/or data using either MTP or UMS and you can browse the player using either a tag database and/or folders.
(So, in effect, I can use the H0 with Win2k even though the manual says WinXP is required)
That being said, I prefer database browsing and have no desire to browse through folders on my Touch. But having more options is always a good thing
