Shortcut for Paste Special+Match Destination Formatting in MS excel on OSX Mavericks

Hi,
I am wondering if someone can help me create a keyboard shortcut for 'paste special -> matching destination formatting' into MS excel 2011. I realise this isn't the most ideal situation (not being a mac app), but it's what I have, and I have a lot of text to copy in, so i'd love to create a workaround if possible.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.5 on a 2010 Macbook Pro. I've tried various options that I've found on the net for previous versions of OSX, but none have worked for Mavericks, and I can't find any information on this that was posted after 2012.
I am willing to experiment with a macro, but I have no experience with them so I don't really know what I'm doing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help / advice.

Hi Barney,
Thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned that I've tried to create a keyboard shortcut in both excel and through systems preferences, however to no avail. In excel there is a keyboard shortcut in place for 'paste special', however there is no option to move past this into paste special options. I am starting to think perhaps this isn't available because there is no menu command for it directly, rather a popup box appears with paste special options. But it is so tedious to click this every time you want to paste.
Cheers

  • MS Word - macro/shortcut icon for "Paste Special"

I am always after streamlining my working process so I cut out unnecessary steps. The solution I'm looking for is to create an icon along my toolbar that I click ONCE that will give me instantly the ability to:
Paste special > Unformatted unicode text
Anybody know how I can achieve this?
    Thanks,
    FP

Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
Select Normal in the project explorer on the left hand side.
    Select Insert > Module.
Copy the following code into the module that appears:
    Sub PasteUnformatted()
    Selection.PasteSpecial DataType:=wdPasteText
    End Sub
    Switch back to Word.
    Select File > Options.
Click either Customize Ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar.
Select Macros in the category dropdown on the left.
Select the macro in the list of commands below - it will be listed as Normal.Module1.PasteUnformatted or similar.
Add it to the list on the right. Note: for the ribbon, you can only add a custom item to a custom tab, so you may have to create a custom tab first. You can always add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar.
You can rename or modify the custom button.

  • Keyboard shortcut for Video/Audio track destination?

  • When i paste some copied color text or formatted cells from excel to my mail draft while composing a mail, it is being pasted as plain text. No back groud or text colors are copied to it. Please suggest a possible solution for this issue.

Colors & Formatted Cells from Excel application can not be copied to my mail composer as it is. Only Plain text is copied.

Wish I could be king. But you described the problem perfectly and I am still but a pawn. All I can say is that I trashed the mail preferences (com.apple.mail.plist) on my Mac Mini, and now my MacBook seems to work right.
Sorry. :>) But that is the truth... The MacBook now has actually sometimes displayed pasted text in its actual, different, font and style as I paste it into a partially composed new mail message.
In other (more rational) words, the problem seems to be tied to pasting only certain types of text. I have not been able yet to pinpoint what. Yes, frustrating indeed. The only work-around has been to re-train my fingers to command-option-shift V, for "paste and match style" (like you, I do not want to always use only plain text). Maybe someone else will eventually weigh in with a real solution. The solution I want is just to be able to consistently see any font variations within my message before I send the email.
The info about the different ppi scales between Windows and Mac is interesting, although not relevant to this particular problem. It does explain the apparent overall size differences I have seen before.

  • Make "Paste and Match Style" the default action?

Is there anyway to make "Paste and Match Style" the default action when typing command-v?

Not unless you reassign CMD-V to the menu command for past and match style. Done in the control panels for keyboard and mouse I think. I am not sure if your allowed to overwrite original keyboard shortcuts, but I think so.
But Paste and match style already has a keyboard shortcut. I take it you feel like an octopus trying to push all the keys together? I know I do for some of them.

  • Make "Paste and Match Style" the default

Is there a way to make “Paste and Match Style” the default for the cmd + V keyboard shortcut?
    Edit:
Never mind, this discussion popped up in the sidebar *after* posting my question

  • Copy a table in Safari and paste special, as text, to an Excel worksheet

I am attempting to write Applescript code to copy a table in Safari and paste special, as text, to an Excel worksheet.
When I perform the operation manually, all the rows of the Safari table are pasted into Excel in a single column, i.e. after all of the data in a row of a table is pasted vertically into Excel, the next row is pasted in the next open cell below in the same column, as I need it.
When I use the applescript line..."paste special on worksheet format text" Excel pastes the table data in rows AND columns , like the table looks in Safari, but I do not want it pasted this way.
Any ideas on how to get my Applescript code to perform the same manual operation?
    Thanks!

I do not know what Excel you have, but to copy a table from a Safari's page, you could use the table tags of the page's source to get the table you want.
That is, use text item delimiters.

  • Preserve formatting using paste special doesn't work.

First off, I'm using a Mac.
I'm currently watching a Total Training tutorial that says I should be able to paste formatted text from Microsoft Word 2008 to Dreamweaver CS3 using the Paste Special command, but I am unable to get this to work. Is this a bug with Word 2008 or Dreamweaver CS3? What's the fix?
    Thanks!

I don't have Word 2008 to test, but using Word 2004 with both Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4 on a Mac offers only limited choices with Paste Special (Shift+Cmd+V). The only options are Text only, Text with structure (paragraphs, lists, tables, etc), and Retain line breaks. The other options are greyed out.

  • Paste special...

I am an Excel user for many years. As I mentioned that I just started using Numbers today. One question is about Paste special in Excel "Paste ...". From there I can paste a text in csv format back to worksheet from a wizard, which helps me to walk through what delimiter such as , or tab being used in clipboard text.
Today I tried to copy a block of csv text from my web banking (when I tried to save my statements as csv, it displays statements in a block of csv page so I can select all and copy them) and paste them to Numbers. There are only two options available: "Paste" and "Paste and Match Style". I cannot find any way to get my text to a table in Numbers in right columns.
The alternative way I had to do is to save the text to a text file with csv extension and open it in Numbers. I am not sure if there is way in Numbers so that I can directly paste csv text to cells?

  • Cannot paste and match style bug in keynote '09

Since upgrading to Keynote '09 I cannot utilize the past and match style function when wanting to duplicate fonts between slides. For instance, if I want to highlight some text from a working document and put that text onto a slide in Keynote, I select the text and copy it- go into keynote and click on my slide and then right click to insert the highlighted text. After the upgrade the text just drops in the (default black font from the document) - not the larger white font on the black background slide.
So now I have to manually highlight each text box - 1) change font 2) change font color.....very frustrating and time consuming. I have yet to see any one else on the forums having a similar issue with Keynote '09

I am rarely on these forums and was just browsing over lunch when I saw yours.
The Paste and Match style command pastes the text in to the text box with the font and style already allocated to that text box, regardless of its origin.
If you just do a regular Paste (Command V - not sure about your right clicking as I have a single button mouse) that will paste the words in with their original font and format.
I use the Copy and Paste Style keyboard shortcuts ALL the time; it saves so much time. Just highlight the text form you want (font, size, colour etc) and, instead of just Command C to copy it, do an Alt Command C . . this copies the format and not the text. Highlight the text you want to change (it doesn't work if you just pick the text box - you have to highlight the text itself) and Alt Command V to paste in the new formats. You can do this with any objects too - drop shadows, line weights, fills, colours etc. This also works between Pages and Keynote.
What I most want from Apple is a Copy and Paste Build command!
    Hope this helps

  • How can I copy/paste from mail without format?

This has been an annoying feature since I upgraded, finally bugged me enough to ask for help.
I receive a weekly newsletter that is formatted into paragraphs with multiple columns. I usually copy parts that I think my son would be interested in, then email it to him. The problem is, when I paste it into mail it retains its formatting, including the shrunken width of the original columns. When I click the text a black, rectangular box appears around it, which I have no control over.
This also happens in Safari when I copy news articles to pass on. It is extremely annoying, and I can't figure out a way to stop Lion from doing that. Switching over to text (non-html) is not an option, since I then lose the hypertext links included in the articles, as well as the images.

Edit > Paste and Match Style. This matches the format in the text window you are pasting into, rather than the format you are copying from.
