Shortcut to put display only to sleep?

hi all --
i have my iMac in my bedroom and like to fall asleep to iTunes at the end of the night. I have my display sleep settings set to "30 minutes" for regular use during the day. When i turn iTunes on at night i'd like the screen to go to sleep right away.
Is there an easy way to do this -- like with a keyboard shortcut -- other than annoyingly going back every night and changing the display sleep prefs to 1 minute?
many thanks,
michael

" Can you think of any way of modifying the script so it is "one time only"?"
Well, it's getting a little ugly but something like this might work:<pre>set old to (do shell script "pmset -g|awk '/displaysleep/ {print $2}'")
do shell script "pmset force displaysleep 1"
delay 90
do shell script "pmset force displaysleep " & old</pre>It would be nicer if I could find an option to put the display to sleep immediately, but one minute seems to be the minimum. The script sets the display sleep timer to one minute, waits 90 seconds, then sets the displaysleep interval back to what it was before. This means that if you don't commence your one minute period of inactivity within 30 seconds, the setting will go back to what it was before, and the display won't sleep until then. The 90 second interval could be made longer, but running a counter for a long period is somewhat inelegant. There's probably a better way...

  • Shortcut for putting the computer to sleep?

Is there such thing cause i can't find it.
I'd like to be able to push a key or a combo
to put my mbp to sleep.
Note that the laptop itself is located a bit away
from where i'm standing at the desk; i'm using
    external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
    Thanks_

    Try:
    Option-Command-Eject or
    Option-Command-Power
Either one works like a charm. Just make sure you don't hit the delete key.

  • Creating keyboard shortcut to put the computer to sleep

I am trying to find out the command to run to put the computer to sleep in the same way as when I press System-->Shutdown-->Suspend in my MATE desktop.
I can send the computer to sleep using systemctl suspend and resume with no problems.
However the behavior is slightly different than pressing the "Suspend" button in that the screen is not locked when I awake the computer from sleep.
What should I write to lock the screen and put the computer to sleep, so that I am asked the password when I resume it?
Thanks a lot in advance for the help,
    Cheers,
    Luca

Thanks monodromy and allonsy for the answers.
Finally I discovered that the way you lock the screen in MATE is with the command:
    mate-screensaver-command -l
I'll try to create a service "lockscreen" as proposed by jason and will post the solution to close the topic!
    Thanks for the help guys!

  • How to put display-only condition in a custom include program

    hello everyone,
I have to make a custom include program that will be used instead of the already available 'bdcrecx1'.
I have a couple of questions and would appreciate your help.
I need to create a parameter with a checkbox. When this checkbox is 'X' the following 2 fields need to be greyed out, otherwise user should be able to enter values in them. How can I grey out the fields?
Using my include I should have just the following:
    1)parameter with checkbox
(if 'X', session and user greyed out)
    2)Session Name
    3)User Name
Also, is there a way I can avoid putting the following onto the screen:
1)Keep session (this will always be defaulted to 'X'
    2)No Data
<b>Note:</b> I made a copy of 'bdcrecx1'and i'm doing changes according to my requirement.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Fred.

    Hi,
    For your first question.
    use
assign user command for checkbox say 'CLICK'..
    at selection-screen output.
    loop at screen.
if screen-group3 = 'VALUE' and checkbox condition.
    screen-active = 0.
    else
    screen-active = 1.
    endloop.
To make sure that the user enters the data in fields if checkbox is not grayed,
    do it in event
    start-of selection.
    if field is initial.
    exit.
    go back to previous screen.
    endif.
for removing 'keep session' , check out for exits..

    Hi marglar,
I'm not sure if you can create a shortcut to put your display to sleep.
You can use this keyboard shortcut to put your mac to sleep: Option-Command-Eject.

  • Macbook to TV, Works fine until I put the Macbook to sleep then tv display

Macbook to TV, Works fine until I put the Macbook to sleep,
I wake the Macbook with external keyboard and the display shows up on TV just fine for a second or two then it looks like something changes and then it starts rolling.
It does not do this when Macbook is awake it only does it after it's put to sleep.

Probably the resolution is switching from a mirrored resolution to some other resolution that the TV can't work from. Try this; shut down the MacBook. Cable up the TV to the MB and also the external keyboard and mouse. Hold down the Shift key on the external keyboard, hit the start button on the MacBook and immediately close the lid on the MB after you've hit the start button. Continue holding the Shift key down on the external keyboard until you see the grey screen with the spinning gear at which time you can release the Shift key. The MB should now finish starting up in Safe mode with only the external screen being on. Hopefully the screen will not be rolling.
Once the MB finishes booting, go into System Preferences/Displays and set the resolution to the optimal/desired resolution for your TV. Hopefully this choice will stick through subsequent restarts and also correct the issue of the rolling screen under the conditions in the scenario you described.

  • Is it possible to display only dynamically selected fields in the out put?

Is it possible to display only dynamically selected fields in the out put? i need to display set of columns in the selection criteria, but in the output i have display only input given fields. because i need to convert it into .csv file. So i have to display selected fields from internal table. In oracle they are using"execute immediate". is there any equivalent in SAP?
    thanks in advance.

    Hi Remya,
Are you talking about dynamic programming in ABAP ?
If yes, there are concepts like RTTS which facilitates it.
Yes, the select query also supports dynamic selection of fields. ( Please care about ( ) in dynamic sql ).
Do more research on Field Symbols and statements like ASSIGN COMPONENT OF.

  • Sleep option for display only yosemite 5K iMac

    Hi
I've used a macbook in the past on snow leopard and lion and these had independent sliders for display and computer sleep. My wife bought me a 5k retina iMac at the weekend (i was shocked) and notice it only has a slider for display sleep.
Is this normal behaviour for yosemite on a new iMac? I see there is an option to prevent sleeping when the display is off, so does this mean effectively as soon as the display goes off the computer sleeps? Not good if you are using plea media library on your mac..
    Thanks for any advice.

I noticed the same issue and cannot find any information as to when the iMac actually goes to sleep. It's unclear to me whether "Display off" = Sleep or not.
Meanwhile, there is a nice tool called "Caffeine" on the Mac App Store that will work well for you and your Media Server issue: https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/caffeine/id411246225?l=en&mt=12

  • MacBook Pro, 27" Apple Display won't sleep on lid close with Lion

I upgraded to Lion last week and one of the last things I need to fix is this. Here are my specs:
    MacBook Pro - early 2009
    27" Apple Display
    Lion 10.7.2
What isn't working: Under 10.6 I had the 27" set as my main screen. When I closed my MBP lid, the computer would go to sleep. Now under Lion closing the lid only moves all windows from the laptop to the 27" display and the computer stay awake. So far the only work around is option/command - eject to put the computer to sleep, then closing the lid. I would like to fix this if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

this is the way lion works...
send your feedback to apple and hopefully they could address this however it sounds like you found a work around already.

  • Display won't sleep after being in suspend once.

When rebooting the computer, the display sleeps after set interval and can manually be put to sleep using shift+ctrl+eject.
However if the computer goes to sleep or I myself close the lid to make it sleep, the display won't sleep again.
The display won't sleep after set interval in power settings and when I press shift+ctrl+eject the keyboard backlit turns off but the screen stays on.
The only way to make it sleep is to close the lid.
I have tried resetting SMC and NVRAM but to no avail.
I have the first generation aluminium macbook.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I have had this problem both in 10.6 and 10.8

  • I cannot put my iMac to sleep using the power button since the Mavericks upgrade.

As the title states, I can no longer put my computer to sleep using the power button. I have to put it to sleep using the mouse. I miss the convenience of the power button. The window for energy saver is not like the display in support, it is missing the "Allow the power button to put the computer to sleep" option. Very strange. I am running an older desktop (2009) with Mavericks, fully updated. 10.9.4

A workaround is to setup a keystroke in the System/Keyboard/Shortcuts preference pane to sleep the Mac.  Any function key or key combination will work.

  • Display will not sleep any more after waking from sleep

My Macbook has recently started misbehaving after waking from sleep. Started putting the entire MB to sleep each night by closing the lid. When I wake it in the morning everything seems normal, no error messages. However from that point forward the display will not dim or sleep. I've tried re-applying my settings in System Preferences -> Energy Saver. Pretty much the only fix has been to reboot, which is annoying and Windows-like.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have "fast sleep" enabled (aka hibernation mode disabled) but I've had that since I bought my MB with 10.5.1 on it. So I don't think it's related. In fact I changed to the default Energy Saver profile to see if that fixed the problem (it didn't), which re-enabled hibernation mode and I then had to re-disable hibernation.
I want to say this started happening after the 10.5.4 update, but that may have been a coincidence as to when I started sleeping it each night... I don't exactly remember.
I downloaded Cocktail to run all the cron jobs, etc, that don't get run when sleeping at night, and that didn't help either.
Any suggestions? Anyone else ever see this? Seeing it now?
    Thanks!

This is still an issue for me.
I sleep my Macbook every night by closing the lid. After doing this a few times, the display either stops sleeping, or stops locking. I have the lock menu in the Apple menu bar, and even selecting "Lock screen" will not work.
Sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes I have to reset the SMC.
    Any info out there?
