Shot in HDV but framed for 4:3 how do I output with cropped image?

I shot in HDV 1080i 50 and framed for 4:3. What settings should i output a QT to in order to get the right aspect ratio?
There are some seriously ugly objects that i need to take out.....

I usually output a full rez quicktime and then crop and size for final delivery in Compressor...

I've set the download settings to always ask where to save a file, and it will do that for some file extensions, but not for others. How can I fix this?

You can check for problems with preferences.
Rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js and user.js files to reset all prefs to the default value.

I was updating ipod touch to new iOS5 and it told me that all data would be lost with update and to put it oon computer, but update not there. How do i update with out this happening?

I am looking for some help with updating to iOS5, i downloaded to computer to avoid losing data on ipod touch but update was not there. I've done three times and same result. If I have all music on usb drive will I be able to reupload it after update, or is there another way to do it by transferring my music from ipod touch to computer and the re-installing in itunes. As all of the msuic came from your computer in the first place it should still be there. Is it not?
EVERYTHING on your ipod should also be on your computer and should be included in your regular backup copy of your computer.
Make sure that everything is on your computer. You can transfer itunes purchases from the ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases.
When everything is on your computer, then it can be synced back to the ipod after updating.

you open instagram - click on the camera - then you should see your photo library on the left side of the blue button, click that and choose your picture you want to post.

for my power shot S5IS, best camera settings for 4 X 6 prints? I would like to have the best setting so when i print out the photos,i do not need to crop or trim. It is close, but i feel it can be better.

The bad news is that you can't do anything in camera to get that result. The good news is that once you understand the possibilities you'll appreciate being able to control how your prints get framed (cropped). Your camera produces images in a 3:4 ratio while a 4 X 6 is a 2:3 ratio so if you don't know in advance that you need to crop some from the top, bottom, or both to make your image fit the 2:3 ratio & frame too tightly when taking the photo you're in trouble. Learn to shoot in a way that allows cropping to match common print sizes, and find a simple editing program to crop in computer. This should be standard practice because even though you may want a 4 X 6 now down the road you might want a 5 X 7 so keep your options open.
If you don't have an editing program that easily does this & you're on a PC download Picasa which is an excellent program for this & it's free. Once you have it running select one of your existing photos, select "crop" from the menues on the first tab & then play around with the different options Picasa has built in to see the effects to your image. NOTE that it won't throw away the data outside the crop box even though it may look like it has. You always have the option to "undo crop". Once you get a result you like you "export" & create a new file cropped as seen on screen WITHOUT modifying the original file.

OT - BBC Surfing Film shot on HDV & cut on FCP airing sunday

Just to let you know there is a great film airing sunday as part of "The Natural World" ... Its a very stylish surf/environmental film set in Hawaii featuring Jack Johnson. apart from the fact its a great film (I didn't cut it but a good pal did)
I thought you might be interested that it was all shot HDV, cut HDV in FCP. Onlined traditional up rez tape route, with tracklay grade etc. The producer lived in Hawaii for a year shooting/digitising/ and cutting it and came up with some good workflows for HDV, I'll try and get him to post them here.
sorry that this only applies to the UK at the moment. (it will air in North America at some point next year) but for anyone in the UK its well worth a look!

I know exactly what you mean! I do know it wasn't without hiccups (what production is?) but it was the one of the best solutions I've seen so far for a smooth HDV native workflow (non DVCPRO HD transcode)..plus it meant he could live in Hawaii for a year without the cost of full HD cameras!
As someone very sceptical of HDV, I was impressed! You can bet it won't be any sort of golden goose, but I'll try and get the full monty as soon as..

IMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, Lion and dead HD? all I get is "Gray Screen w/wirlie gig" but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don't go. Is this a DEAD HD?

          I have a iMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, and was running Mac OS X 10.6.8. My 500 GB WD5000AAKS was about 90% full. I had an issue with the admin password, it would not accept any of my known passwords. I ran for a while on the fingerprint reader I had, we have two users on the machine in our home. I tried many attempts to fix this problem without success I came up with a plan. That plan was a new HD, used a 2TB Samsung. plan worked like a charm. Installed a 4 GB Ram Chip and the new Samsung, formatted it, loaded Snow Leopard, and loaded what was on my Time Machine backup all was good.
          This was early July, then Lion was available I was happy with what I had, I had 1.450 TB of free space. So, what the heck, lets spring for Lion, that even went well for a not even 2 weeks, enough that I had several Time Machine backups.
           Then monitor goes flash, flash then I try a re-boot same gray screen with whirlie gig that I had when the the HD in my MacBook Pro died. Put the old 500 GB WD back in and all was fine, ran for a day. It was OK except back to no password and full. Went down to my local computer shops here in Rayong Thailand and sprung for a New 2 TB WDXXX, put that in, used my Snow Leopard disk to format and load OS X 10.6.8. I though that all was good, the load from Time Machine was slow and the time remaining was changing all the time, took about 3 hrs for about 300 MB that where on the LaCie.
          Now I have a password issue, however it asks for a password reset that it will NOT take and I don’t even get that now. All I get is the infamous “Gray Screen w/wirlie gig” but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don’t go. Is this a DEAD HD? I plan to re-install the old 500GB just to systems check and if all is well I will take the “NEW” 2 TB WD back for replacement. I am thinking that I should put the new HD in and format and load Snow Leopard then up date to Lion then do my Time Machine backup. The only problem is does the circle with the diagonal line mean something more? If so how does one recover Lion with no disk if that is what I need to do. Yes, I have tried control “R” on boot, nadda, no response, “mai dee” no good. Ideas, please.

I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard. It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion. The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot. Had the constant spinner on a grey screen.. did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck. Crashed my system one too many times. I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac. I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive. I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control. Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh? I use the hot corners anyhow. As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow. I don't like the new Mail either..
As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

This is just a shot in the dark....
Do you have all your devices hooked up (and on) when you launch FMLE? For example -- your camera or digitizer? When FMLE launches it will try to launch with the last known settings... including input devices. If it can't find these devices (they're not hooked up and on) it can crash, although in most situations it will simply show a default screen with default settings.
If you do have your equipment hooked up (and on) when you launch FMLE, try unplugging them and then launching FMLE so that it opens up in default configuration mode (no input devices selected; all default settings). Then uncheck the "preview" boxes for both your input and output preview windows. Close FMLE and then plug in your equipment (and turn it on) and relaunch FMLE. I offer this suggestion as FMLE can sometimes act funny when the preview windows are open with certain types of input devices. Don't worry -- you don't have to keep the preview windows off forever. If you can get FMLE to successfully launch with the preview windows off, then you can set your settings however you like and save the profile. Then quit and relaunch FMLE and then turn the preview windows back on and see if it works. If it does, great. Just be aware that making any settings changes while the preview windows are open could result in FMLE crashing. Again -- this only happens with some capture devices, such as certain Dazzle capture boxes.
If none of this works, you could always try to upgrade to FMLE 3.2 and see if that solves your problem.

Pre + Clarion CX609 BT works for others but not for me?

I have a VERY strange issue with my new Clarion CX609 head unit. I had read a post on the Precentral.net forums by a guy who had the same head unit and his Pre auto-connected and worked with it flawlessly. So I figured I would give it a shot and ordered the unit from Crutchfield. I got it installed fine, but when I try to auto-connect to it with my Pre, it will connect momentarily and drop. I can see the blue phone and audio icons appear next to the CX609 profile in my Bluetooth preferences, and a second or two later, they vanish.
The only way I have been able to get my Pre connected to the CX609 is to manually navigate through the pairing sequence on the 609, search for a device, and select my Pre at which point the Pre will ask me if I would like to connect, I enter the password, and it works. I have to do that every single time I get in the car, including re-entering the 0000 password to re-pair the devices.
If I attempt to initiate the pairing connection from my Pre with the 609 in "wait" pairing mode, it connects momentarily, then drops.
Pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.. anyone have any ideas?

Shot in HDV, needed in DV ...

Hello All,
I have shot HDV footage on a Z1. I am editing on Final Cut Pro and my client would like me to print the edit to tape and feed the report from a bureau nearby. The bureau only has a DVCAM player, a DSR-1500P.
How can I edit HDV footage and print DV to tape? Is this possible or should I have shot the footage in DV to begin with?

FWIW, I worked on a project a couple of years ago shot in HDV. The initial use was SD DVD. I rented a Sony HDV deck that would also output DV in a variety of flavors (including anamorphic). I captured as HDV and then recaptured identical clips as DV. Worked great. I was also able to blow up a few shots without any loss in quality by dropping the HDV material into the DV timeline.

the MacPro is the muscle machine and not constrained by power or cooling limitations like the MacBoo Pro is.

If you press the MacBook Pro like a desktop machine, it will blow fans like a hurricane but will do the job eventually.
The longer you blow fans on a laptop, the sooner it clogs up with crippling dust and shortens the life of the machine.
You'll need the top end 15" or better, not the 13" as it has no dedicated graphics, only CPU graphics.
Preferably if you just now getting into video, you should be considering Avid on a Windows 7 tower, it's because Apple has been ignoring the MacPro for hardware updates to improve it and it seems like they don't want to carry it anymore. Also the last Final Cut Pro version had Hollywood up in arms as Apple removed a lot of required abilities to make it more "consumer friendly" which upset the Pro market who likes control.
Apple is focusing on the consumer computing market and getting away from the "Pro" market which needs the heavier hardware to handle video needs. They stopped selling the X-RAID and the X-Server, so Apple really isn't a "computer" company any longer.
Sure you can use a MacBook Pro and a external monitor for doing home movies and such occasionally, but if your into serious production you need to consdier other options now.
There is nothing wrong in getting a MacBook Air and a Windows 7 professional video tower too.

transfer of cost from sub item to main item is configured in the delivery to billing copy control for the main item. go to VTFL > select the required item cateogry > here at the bottom you will find a check box Cummulate cost. Tick it.
Not really what you meant COPA purposes. But the pricing conditions are mapped to COPA value fields at KE4I transaction.
