Shot matcher with multiple video tracks and clips bug

Hello again,
Very problematic bug : at least in direct link mode, when using shot matcher, if the shot to be matched is on top of other clips below, then it produces odd results. In a word, it doesn't work.
Can't think of a workaround or another workflow right now, so, again, very problematic.
Fred

As I'm producing a music documentary, it's often handy not to erase a clip beneath another one when there is a temporal continuity and the clip above only is there for a temporary angle change.
Thank you very much for this idea anyway.

  • Mkv with multiple video tracks

Hi. I have a load of Matroska files which contain a few (about 5) short video clips and an audio track. The video clips in each file are of the same event from different angles, so I want to watch all clips simultaneously. I have installed Perian and while the files open, I can only see one track, and I don't hear any audio. (MKVinfo tells me there are definitely multiple tracks.) Is it possible to use Perian/QuickTime to watch all video tracks simultaneously? If so, I can't figure out how, so I'd appreciate any pointers.
I've tried VLC, and while this also opens the files (and shows all tracks), it invariably crashes soon after opening.
If anyone has any other suggestions how I might solve this, that would be great too.
    Thanks in advance,
    wrathkeg

It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:
    http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
    which may help.
But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
    2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.
Or this link may be helpful:
    http://www.squidoo.com/mkv-converter-mac
Recently, a poster (ZachP14) suggested this:
"There's a program called Plex that runs .mkv files awesome on my 2.0 ghz macbook."

    Maybe worth a try?

  • Working with multiple video tracks

When I have 2 video clips on different tracks at the same time, there is a red line above the track and, if I try to play the movie, the word "rendering" is shown during this section.
I have a long clip on track one and want to add a small cutaway shot on track 2, while keeping the audio of track 1 going.
Since I need to adjust the video in/out/placement in track 2 so it works with the track 1 audio, I can't keep re-rendering at every tweak. There must be a faster method.

All the video was shot in 1440x1080, at the exact same camera settings (Canon Vixia HF100, LP mode). However, the sequence is 1920x1080 (which was the setting of a previous project).
If I try to change the sequence settings to 1440x1080, the image gets stretched. Any suggestion?

  • Multiple video tracks and slow render

I have two video tracks. Everytime that I move the video on either track it has to re-render all the affected areas of the movie, but all I need it to do is switch to the highest video track. I don't need it to render at all. I'm sure I never had this problem before. Was this introduced by a newer version of Final Cut or have I introduced a new setting? This version is much slower on my C2D than it ever was on my iMac G3.

Check item properties for your clips and see if they match item properties for the sequence. They should be exactly the same.

  • Best method for building a project with multiple video tracks

I'm working a project where a client wants some edits made to an existing DVD they had - some video tweaks but mostly menu changes. I'm rebuilding the menus from scratch and I've ripped all the video files from the DVD (there are about 80 of them on one DL-DVD), transcoding them with DV-DVCPRO/NTSC settings.
The problem is when I import them all as assets into my project build, the DVD disc meter shoots up to about 12 or 13gb. What I've done is added them all to their own separate track, as they're meant to be played not as one continuous video but individual sessions.
What I'm wondering is if there is a better way to build it that would reduce the amount of space it takes up (I'm rather new at DVD Studio Pro, so I can't tell if I'm going about this the wrong way or not), or if I need to compress the video files or re-transcode them using some other settings (H.264? I'm trying to maintain as much video quality as possible).
Any help on this would be much appreciated, thanks.

What is the running time? You should encode to m2v and AC3. Take a look here

  • Multiple Video Tracks

With Imovie HD, just wanted to know if it was possible to have multiple video tracks and how? Also I cant seem to find the 'project library' or any 'advanced' tool section...
    Cheers!!

    Hi
No there are no "Multiple video tracks" in iMovie any version.
If it is the effect "Picture in Picture" Then You can add plug-ins from
third part developer that can give this.
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
But if it is real "Multiple video tracks" You need cheapest and "best" solution
    is FinalCut Express.
If it is so that You shoot/record with multiple Cameras/Simultanious AND Continous
Then You would gain greatly on FinalCut Pro (Studio 2 bundle).
To work with this multi-clip function is Great.

  • Multiple video tracks available???

I am gradually moving over to FCE from Media100. In one of my earlier post on this forum, I wrote that I need to work on several (4-5) timelines at the same time in one project. I edit documentary work and need this flexibility in developing ideas and different sequences to select the best one. In Media 100, infinite 'programs windows' can be opened within the same project
I went to an Apple demo; someone suggested I create different project names. Won't work for me. I need to refer to numerous sequences at a fast pace instead of closing out and opening a new project just to see a 45 second sequence, reopening, etc....
I was informed on this forum that multiple timelines could be nested, but I dont understand this or how this is done. Is there only one video track in FCE? Would these different 'trial' sequences be made up on one video track in a differenet track location?. I see that audio has numerous tracks. Does video has this too?
    How is video nesting done?
    Thanks.
    Billp

You can have as many sequences as you want in a single FCE project. You can have multiple projects open at the same time. Any sequence can have 99 tracks of video and 99 tracks of audio. By default, though this is user pref you can change, a sequence is created with one video track and four tracks of audio.
You can have as many sequences as you want open at the same time in the timeline window. You can pull the sequence from the timeline window so you effectively have multiple timeline windows. Your screen will get pretty cluttered pretty fast though.
Nesting simply means putting one sequence inside another. There are a number of ways to do it. The simplest is to drag one sequence from the browser into another sequence.

  • HELP!! Multiple Video Tracks

I need to know if you are able to have multiple video tracks and once they are all lined up in the sequence you want, am I able to cut from one video track to another just like you would edit from scene to scene with 1 video track (like in Imovie)? I need to edit a dance recital with video from 3 cameras, so i need to line up the videos so they are all in sync as far as time is concerned, then switch from one video track to another without seeing the other tracks playing at the same time...in essence "mask" the other video tracks I don't want to see, but keeping all three video tracks in time and sync'd.
If yes....then I'm buying Final Cut...if no...I need something else!
Hope you understand what I'm asking!!!
    Thanks, DJ

You can do it though FCP does it more efficiently.
It is a bit fiddly in FCE though Piero's free PIP filter makes it a bit easier:-

  • What is it like to edit HD with FCE4 and multiple video tracks

I would like to get an idea of what it's like to edit HD on final cut express on an Intel based Power MAC (let's say 2.8GHZ with a large hard drive and 4mb of memory)
If one was to have 4 video tracks and a track of green screen with various transitions ( 4 minutes of video)
I really can't get a handle on this when reading the threads and forums.
When I hear people say I have no trouble editing HD on an Intel 2.8 power MAC, I often wonder that may be the case if you are editing one track of video, but what about multiple tracks, transitions and green screen layers?
If anyone is doing this on FCE with an Intel based Power MAC, I'd like to hear what you are experiencing. I know it;s different for everyone but I'd like to hear some examples and times

Four streams of video with effects can be handled by FCE using Unlimited RT, but it does depend on the computer and the drives. The internal drive of an iMac for instance would be hard pressed to do this without a lot of stuttering on playback. A fast external drive like a RAID would be needed to get good performance.

  • Multiple video tracks to line up with audio- iMovie or Finalcut??

I am trying to make music videos, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEzpIAdsur8&feature=channel_video_title
I have iMovie, and my main problem is getting the video to line up with the audio. I can make the audio tracks like up just fine, but then I am stuck with just one video clip to use, I cant go back and forth between different video clips of me playing different instruments because I can't line them up perfectly with the song. Help?
I have been debating wether or not to get final cut express 4, because from what the reviews say it allows multiple video tracks to be used. Would that solve my problem?

  • How do I copy and paste text style for multiple video tracks?

    hello,
I am creating multiple video tracks with text.  I want to easily copy and paste the style, i.e., Font, Color, Size - rather than having to scroll down the giant list of fonts to find the one I want, then change the color, then change the size - each and every time.  This is arduous.
I tried copy / paste of one text onto a new video track, but when I type in a different word, it alters the original.
I have 9 tracks of video for 9 different texts that will pop in and out of my video.  I would like to be able to copy/paste then just change the text.  This would save me a huge amount of time.

    paulrudophmusic
I know of no way to alphabetized the Adobe Styles that come with the program.
If you had the time and the inclination, you could rename them all to force them to appear alphabetically, but that does not seem all that practical.
But, if your interest is in the Styles that you save and you do not hit the Reset File List, the new Styles will be at the bottom of the list and you can name them so that they appear that alphabetically at the bottom of the whole Styles list. But that does not address the matter of you having to scroll to the bottom of the Styles list.
In some instances, some things that you think that you cannot do in Premiere Elements obvious features, can be done by computer keyboard shortcuts. I check the keyboard shortcuts under the Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization and unfortuately did not find any that would be applicable to this situation.
As for your changes in one text file popping up unwantedly in another text file, that is because you have text files with the same name. Look into creating duplicates (with different file names) in Project Assets at the onset.

  • Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, audio channels change to 8 channels when clip dragged onto timeline.

Premiere Pro Timeline with 3 video channels and 4 audio channels, when clip dragged onto timeline audio channels change to 8 channels. Audio track mixer changes too. I edit undo to remove dragged clip and it reverts back to 4 channels of audio on timeline as does the audio mixer?  Any ideas as to why the audio channels and mixer changes?

you can check the clip you are dragging to the timeline, if it has 8 tracks... can check by right clicking it in the project bin, choose modify, audio channels.

  • PRE8 - Transitioning between multiple video tracks

    Hi,
I've been making Youtube vids for awhile with a web cam, and using a Microsoft app to sync my audio up with the webcam.
I now have a second camera, and have purchased PRE8 for some of the effects, and to try to sync the video closer to the audio (as well as adding multiple camera shots).
I've recorded all my video angles (5 in all) and have been trying to switch between video tracks.
I first set my audio track into PRE8, then the first video. I work to sync the two, then mute the audio track from the webcam video clip.
When I add a second video clip in, can I add it as a new video track, and then transition between them?
The book I have only uses separate video clips, all stacked onto one video track.
The problem with me doing that is, I need to pull all 5 video clips in, sync them to the audio track, and then change in between them.
Having to clip them duration wise for every transition is going to take awhile, and seems like it would be hard to get right.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Let me know if you need more information from me to help.
    Thanks!

Well, the Multi-cam feature would simplify life a bit, but there is a big difference in the cost of the two programs.
What I would do is look at a workflow, something like this:
Import your main footage, probably a Clip with a medium wide shot, and drag it to the Timeline. Now, does this Clip contain the full song, or was that recorded separately? Either way, check for the sync for the entire Clip. When you play this Clip, use the * key on the numberpad (with NumLock ON), to place Markers where you think you will want the "cut-away" shots. Don't worry if they are not exactly where you will end up placing the cut-aways, as they are just there to remind you. Now, with the cut-aways, Import one of those into Project. From the Project Panel, Dbl-click on it to open it in the Source Monitor. Set the In and Out Points to suit, and then from the Source Monitor, drag that Instance of the Clip onto an upper Video Track. Let any Audio go where ever PrPro wants it, because you will Alt-click on that Audio, and Delete it. Now, slide it along the Timeline, until it syncs up with the "master" Audio Track. You have the benefit of knowing which strings you are plucking, or which chords you are using, so it will be much easier for you. Were I doing that, I would not have a clue, and would have to use that Clip's Audio to try and match up the visuals.
Remember, that source Clip can have its In & Out Points set as many times as you wish, and you can add any number of Instances to the Timeline, where you wish, and repeat the process of visually syncing to the master Audio.
Repeat for the other desired angles.
When you are done, just add a Cross-Dissolve to each end of each of the additional Clips, as desired.
From an aesthetic standpoint, you might also want to think about doing some of those "different angles" as PiP (Picture in Picture). I have seen that treatment used very successfully with musical pieces, especially if they are instructional in nature.
Let me know if the above workflow seems logical for what you have, and what you want to do.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • The point of multiple video tracks

I am half way through the Adobe Premiere CS3 Classroom in a book and the only time multiple video tracks have been used is when working with multiple cameras and still there the multiple tracks where used only to sync up the four different cameras. In the book, to determine which camera angle to show the sequence had to be dragged into another sequence that was set to multi-camera.
I see different marketing shots of the Premiere screen with lots of video tracks. How sand or why do folks use multiple video tracks? It seems that all the video transitions are between different clips on the same track, can a transition span tracks? Might there be some good videos or books that might enlighten me to some more advanced usages?
    Sam

    Here's an example...
Video Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Video Track 2 - Title (lower third graphics)
Video Track 3 - Title (lower third text)
Video Track 4 - Over the shoulder graphic (think "news report")
Video Track 5 - Bug/logo lower left corner
Audio Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Audio Track 2 - Music (underneath)
Audio Track 3 - Sound effects (whoosh! zing! bang!)
Audio Track 4 - Audio commentary (director, talent)
Just something to get your brain going. I've never used more than 10-15 video layers simultaneously (doing green screen work, titles, mattes, etc), and never more than about 6-10 audio tracks. But that's just me....many people need more than that to accomplish whatever they're doing.
Another thought...even though you "can" do transitions and cuts all on one track for most simple projects, some people prefer to use the track numbers as an organizational structure. Put all your cuts for scene 1 on track 1, all your cuts for scene 2 on track 2, and so on. This can be very useful for scanning the timeline and looking for specific changes in the overall storyline (whereas a single, long track would require another system of organization...either sequence markers or perhaps pure memorization).
    Hope this helps!

  • Working with multiple audio tracks

    Hello,
I'm working with video clips that have a stereo audio track (guide audio fed into the camera) synch'ed to 4 mono tracks (recorded from a variety of boom mics and lavaliers).
Although I've linked all the audio clips to the video, it still gets a bit cumbersome when performing T or L cuts. When I hold down the Option key, I still have to adjust each of the audio track separately.
Is there a more efficient way to deal with multiple audio tracks? Maybe some way to treat these audio tracks as one unit?
BTW I'm working in FCP 7.
    Thanks,
    Thien

    One way:
    Lock the video track.
Use the Edit Selection Tool to Select the audio transition points
This will automatically open the Trim window, where you can move the cut point - in this case I am moving the audio cut(s) 30 frames later than the video cut:
which gives me the displacement of all the tracks that I wanted:
You can use this quite quickly once you get used to it.
