Working with multiple video tracks

When I have 2 video clips on different tracks at the same time, there is a red line above the track and, if I try to play the movie, the word "rendering" is shown during this section.
I have a long clip on track one and want to add a small cutaway shot on track 2, while keeping the audio of track 1 going.
Since I need to adjust the video in/out/placement in track 2 so it works with the track 1 audio, I can't keep re-rendering at every tweak. There must be a faster method.

All the video was shot in 1440x1080, at the exact same camera settings (Canon Vixia HF100, LP mode). However, the sequence is 1920x1080 (which was the setting of a previous project).
If I try to change the sequence settings to 1440x1080, the image gets stretched. Any suggestion?

  • Working with multiple audio tracks

    Hello,
I'm working with video clips that have a stereo audio track (guide audio fed into the camera) synch'ed to 4 mono tracks (recorded from a variety of boom mics and lavaliers).
Although I've linked all the audio clips to the video, it still gets a bit cumbersome when performing T or L cuts. When I hold down the Option key, I still have to adjust each of the audio track separately.
Is there a more efficient way to deal with multiple audio tracks? Maybe some way to treat these audio tracks as one unit?
BTW I'm working in FCP 7.
    Thanks,
    Thien

    One way:
    Lock the video track.
Use the Edit Selection Tool to Select the audio transition points
This will automatically open the Trim window, where you can move the cut point - in this case I am moving the audio cut(s) 30 frames later than the video cut:
which gives me the displacement of all the tracks that I wanted:
You can use this quite quickly once you get used to it.

  • Mkv with multiple video tracks

Hi. I have a load of Matroska files which contain a few (about 5) short video clips and an audio track. The video clips in each file are of the same event from different angles, so I want to watch all clips simultaneously. I have installed Perian and while the files open, I can only see one track, and I don't hear any audio. (MKVinfo tells me there are definitely multiple tracks.) Is it possible to use Perian/QuickTime to watch all video tracks simultaneously? If so, I can't figure out how, so I'd appreciate any pointers.
I've tried VLC, and while this also opens the files (and shows all tracks), it invariably crashes soon after opening.
If anyone has any other suggestions how I might solve this, that would be great too.
    Thanks in advance,
    wrathkeg

It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:
    http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
    which may help.
But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
    2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.
Or this link may be helpful:
    http://www.squidoo.com/mkv-converter-mac
Recently, a poster (ZachP14) suggested this:
"There's a program called Plex that runs .mkv files awesome on my 2.0 ghz macbook."

    Maybe worth a try?

  • Working with Multiple Videos in Logic a Pain !!!

    Hi,
I find that working with videos in logic is still quite primitive as compared to Protools. I like working with logic, even in post production but working with videos has been a real pain for me.
In PT, you are able to add in several videos in one arrange page and edit the length of the videos to remove unwanted frames such as the black frames etc. It makes it easy to bounce when you can just click on the video in the arrange and bounce the particular segment in the precise time length of the video.
But in Logic, I have to add all the videos in imovie, then export them out to DVPAL, then adding them in logic. This can take a really long time. Say i have a new revised video for one several compiled videos, i then have to repeat the whole process all over again. After which the starting time location of the video changes and i'll have to move everything in my arrange page. In PT you can just replace the particular video file and nothing else changes.
Bouncing is also difficult in Logic when you can't maintain the starting time of the videos uniform. There are many times when I have to zoom in really find to the start time of video then start dragging the loop region and then do the same to the end. In PT, just click on the video and bounce. Done!
I find working with Videos in Logic for Post Production for Advertising is such a pain. And I don't want to change to Protools cause i still love logic. I really think Apple will have to do something about this to be a competitive Post Production and Engineering platform. As for working with Music Logic is still sweet.
Anyone else using logic as a Engineering Platform feeling the same way?
Is there a better way to work with videos in Logic?
    Cheers,
    Kitcheren

I can't believe there isn't a lot more talk about video in Logic. I have been using LP7 for music-to-picute for years until now that I have switched to 9. The way Logic 9 interacts with video has changed and I find it really hard to find exactly where the frames are in relation to the audio. It seems that the video window only approximately updates as you advance in the timeline by frames. Can anyone confirm that? Isn't anyone doing music for picture in Logic? I'm also kinda hooked on Logic and not in any mood to go back to PT, but today I nearly had a heart attack trying to get some music to match. My exports weren't looking the same as my project etc... I was horrified at the idea of telling my client that I can't figure out how to sync the picture! I wound up sending the mix and movie to a friend to line things up... not pretty.

  • Best method for building a project with multiple video tracks

I'm working a project where a client wants some edits made to an existing DVD they had - some video tweaks but mostly menu changes. I'm rebuilding the menus from scratch and I've ripped all the video files from the DVD (there are about 80 of them on one DL-DVD), transcoding them with DV-DVCPRO/NTSC settings.
The problem is when I import them all as assets into my project build, the DVD disc meter shoots up to about 12 or 13gb. What I've done is added them all to their own separate track, as they're meant to be played not as one continuous video but individual sessions.
What I'm wondering is if there is a better way to build it that would reduce the amount of space it takes up (I'm rather new at DVD Studio Pro, so I can't tell if I'm going about this the wrong way or not), or if I need to compress the video files or re-transcode them using some other settings (H.264? I'm trying to maintain as much video quality as possible).
Any help on this would be much appreciated, thanks.

What is the running time? You should encode to m2v and AC3. Take a look here

  • Working with multiple video resolutions ...

I am putting together a home movie, in case that matters, where my video was taken on a variety of cameras.  I have 1920x1080 30fps (Sony camcorder), 1280x720 60fps (Flip), 1280x720 30fps (iPhone 4), 720x480fps (miniDV).    Targets are PS3/big TV, PC, and BD or DVD disc.   The 1080p Sony footage is my most abundant and important footage.    Questions less any open-ended comments, I'm all ears.
    1) What would you all set for sequence settings?    In my layman's mind I favored the 1080p footage creating a sequence using one of the Sony clips.
    2) Any issues exporting to H.264 1080p 30fps?  That format plays natively on my Sony PS3, PC, and easy to create a BD without further encoding.   Any special settings I should set when I export?   Or should I be going with a different format in this case?  I get confused on the whole when to upscale vs. downscale topic.
    3) Assuming yes and yes, would you want to scale the lower resolution clips to frame size?   Or would you leave them with big black bars on all sides?   Or would it depend on which resolution listed above?
    4) Assuming you said scale to frame size for all, unfortunately I was not aware of the Edit.Preferences.General.Default Scale to Frame Size setting until I after I imported.  I have spent days and hours pouring over hundreds of video clips, so going back and re-importing and editing would be a nightmare (unless there is someway to cause PP to resync with original clips achieving the same result).    So is the best option then to select the clips on the timeline and check "Scale to Frame Size"?   It looks like I can do that by selecting multiple clips on the timeline and get them all at once.    If the option is set for the 1080p clips (that match the sequence) will it just be ignored?  My footage is mixed throughout the time line.
    Thanks!
    Jon

I really appreciate the rich feedback here - this forums is great, especially for us lost in space isolated consumers.   Following up on several questions and comments ...
All of my TV's and computer monitors are 1080.  I'm hand waving a bit here, but I'm guessing my footage is 65% 1080i, 25% 720p, and 10% SD; something along those lines.   I am following a chronological story format, but could separate out the early part of the year before I started shooting in 1080i.  But note even there I would still have the mix of 720p and SD.  I can create my own delivery requirements being a home movie, but the plan was to have a .m2t encoding to play on PC's and then BD for the PS3 on a big TV.   So my original layman's thought was to go with a 1080i sequence, put it all in there, and take my lumps with how it comes out.  I guess I would rather favor the bulk of the HD footage looking good.
I did some experimenting tonight.    I took a 1080i sequence created from my dominant footage.  I dropped in a sample 720p and SD clip x 2; on the duplicates I selected Scale to Frame Size.   I watched the result over and over with my daughter on a 55" LED TV playing natively off a flash drive on a PS3 with an H.264 BD encoding .m2t file, VBR 2-pass.   What we discovered in our opinion was that the 720p was a bit too grainy for our tastes when scaled to the frame size.  Despite the pillar bars, we felt the unscaled (right term?) 720p was plenty "big" enough on the screen.   The 720p came off a Flip pocket camera, so nothing stellar to begin with.   On the SD clip, the unscaled version was clearly better looking with smoother motion than the scaled to frame size version.  However, we found it a bit too small with the pillar boxes and ultimately decided we preferred the scaled up size despite the degradation.
Now here is a really interesting note.  Perhaps I did something wrong here?   I took that same SD clip, created a new sequence from it, ensuring it was interlaced, and exported to MPEG2-DVD, VBR 2-pass, etc., imported into Encore, produced a DVD without any transcoding.  We then played this DVD back and forth with the aformentioned scale to frame size H.264 encoding.   I'm not sure I could tell a difference, but my daughter thought the 1080i playing natively off the PS3 look a little bit better than the DVD.    Not what I was expecting.   So unless I am missing something, in this specific case it seems the 1080i sequence is the way to go since we are not observing any benefit with straight SD and it fits better with my home movie situation.
Separate topic, but I have a decade of SD home movies stored in various mpeg and avi files.   Upscaling those is intriguing.   Does a BMD card allow you to hardware upscale an SD file on your PC or only on capture from a device?
I'm also interested in trying Instant HD.  Here is the rub though - it only works on progressive footage.  Perhaps I should put this question in a separate thread, but what is the best way to convert interlaced to progressive?  Or is that just flat out going to mangle the end results.  Red Giant also makes a plug-in called Magic Bullet Frames that supposedly converts to progressive.    To be clear - not so worried about the bit of SD discussed here on the upscale front, but rather going back to the decade prior.

  • Edge Animate, Working with multiple audio tracks

I'm having trouble with one of my animations.
I have set up 8 animated symbols that will play when the user hovers over the symbol.
When the user clicks on a symbol it will play an audio mp3 files.
// insert code for mouse click here
// Sets a toggle to play or pause the audio track
var audio = sym.$("_1")[0];                            "_1" is the name of the audio file that is placed on the timeline.  The original MP3 file is named 1 but when it was dragged to the canvas it created a layer called "_1".
    if (audio.paused) {
      audio.play();
    } else {
      audio.pause();
But there are two problems, one more concerning than the other.
    The problems are below:
I can not figure out the code to stop the audio when the symbol is clicked again instead of it being paused.  I tried to change audio.pause to audio.stop.  That did not help.  I would like the audio to stop if clicked again and then play from the beginning if clicked one more time.
This is the one that I am most concerned about.  If the user clicks on one symbol, the audio for that symbol will start to play as intended.  But if the user clicks on a second symbol, the audio for that symbol will start to play in conjunction with the audio already playing from the previous symbol.  It would be nice if a user could click on one symbol it will start to play its audio but if they change their mind and click on another symbol, the playing audio will stop and the new clicked symbol will start to play its audio.
Anyone have any suggestions?  Or help to provide.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
One quick answer to your question, and another that I will follow up on when I get a few minutes.
Animate uses the HTML5 audio API to control audio elements, so you can only use methods and properties that are specified for audio elements in HTML5 browsers.
To "stop" audio, you need to pause it and then set its currentTime property to 0, like so:
    sym.$("your_audio_element")[0].pause();
    sym.$("your_audio_element")[0].currentTime = 0;
The next time you play this audio element, it will play back from the beginning.
The other part of your question (stopping other playing audio when another symbol audio starts playing) can be done by getting all instances of the audio tag in jQuery and then pausing all audio. I don't have the exact syntax for that at hand as I reply, but I'll respond back with it soon.
    hth,
    Joe

  • Work with multiple Audio tracks; multiple selection

    Hi there,
For my current project I do have a lot of Audio material - mostly four channels.
I would like to have those four channels on four tracks in Premiere Pro CC 2014.
Tough, when I mark all the audio material with cmnd + A and then drag & drop it
in my time, everything lands on one track...
    So…
    1) is there a possibility, that when I drag & drop it that it automatically spreads to 4 tracks?
    2) If 1) is not possible; how can search for a specific group of audio files to speed up the workflow?
             --> at the moment the files are named Scene_Shot_Take_3.WAV /…_4.WAV / …_5.WAV / …_6.WAV
though when I type in the finder "_3" it doesn't make a selection for just the "_3" files but basically everything
with the number 3 in the metadate…
Thanks very much for the tips and help. It is appreciated.
    Cheers

Are you getting one track with four waveforms on it? You could try in the project panel- right click-modify-audio channels and set as below.

  • Shot matcher with multiple video tracks and clips bug

    Hello again,
Very problematic bug : at least in direct link mode, when using shot matcher, if the shot to be matched is on top of other clips below, then it produces odd results. In a word, it doesn't work.
Can't think of a workaround or another workflow right now, so, again, very problematic.
    Fred

As I'm producing a music documentary, it's often handy not to erase a clip beneath another one when there is a temporal continuity and the clip above only is there for a temporary angle change.
Thank you very much for this idea anyway.

  • Multiple video tracks to line up with audio- iMovie or Finalcut??

I am trying to make music videos, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEzpIAdsur8&feature=channel_video_title
I have iMovie, and my main problem is getting the video to line up with the audio. I can make the audio tracks like up just fine, but then I am stuck with just one video clip to use, I cant go back and forth between different video clips of me playing different instruments because I can't line them up perfectly with the song. Help?
I have been debating wether or not to get final cut express 4, because from what the reviews say it allows multiple video tracks to be used. Would that solve my problem?

This forum is for mobile iMovie (iPhone & iPad).

  • Multiple Video Tracks

With Imovie HD, just wanted to know if it was possible to have multiple video tracks and how? Also I cant seem to find the 'project library' or any 'advanced' tool section...
    Cheers!!

    Hi
No there are no "Multiple video tracks" in iMovie any version.
If it is the effect "Picture in Picture" Then You can add plug-ins from
third part developer that can give this.
    Stupendous software http://www.stupendous-software.com
    GeeThree http://www.geethree.com
    cf/x. http://www.imovieplugins.com
    Apple http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/ezediapluginsforimovievol1.html
    http://www.imovieplugins.com/fxhome.html
But if it is real "Multiple video tracks" You need cheapest and "best" solution
    is FinalCut Express.
If it is so that You shoot/record with multiple Cameras/Simultanious AND Continous
Then You would gain greatly on FinalCut Pro (Studio 2 bundle).
To work with this multi-clip function is Great.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Multiple video tracks available???

I am gradually moving over to FCE from Media100. In one of my earlier post on this forum, I wrote that I need to work on several (4-5) timelines at the same time in one project. I edit documentary work and need this flexibility in developing ideas and different sequences to select the best one. In Media 100, infinite 'programs windows' can be opened within the same project
I went to an Apple demo; someone suggested I create different project names. Won't work for me. I need to refer to numerous sequences at a fast pace instead of closing out and opening a new project just to see a 45 second sequence, reopening, etc....
I was informed on this forum that multiple timelines could be nested, but I dont understand this or how this is done. Is there only one video track in FCE? Would these different 'trial' sequences be made up on one video track in a differenet track location?. I see that audio has numerous tracks. Does video has this too?
    How is video nesting done?
    Thanks.
    Billp

You can have as many sequences as you want in a single FCE project. You can have multiple projects open at the same time. Any sequence can have 99 tracks of video and 99 tracks of audio. By default, though this is user pref you can change, a sequence is created with one video track and four tracks of audio.
You can have as many sequences as you want open at the same time in the timeline window. You can pull the sequence from the timeline window so you effectively have multiple timeline windows. Your screen will get pretty cluttered pretty fast though.
Nesting simply means putting one sequence inside another. There are a number of ways to do it. The simplest is to drag one sequence from the browser into another sequence.

  • The point of multiple video tracks

I am half way through the Adobe Premiere CS3 Classroom in a book and the only time multiple video tracks have been used is when working with multiple cameras and still there the multiple tracks where used only to sync up the four different cameras. In the book, to determine which camera angle to show the sequence had to be dragged into another sequence that was set to multi-camera.
I see different marketing shots of the Premiere screen with lots of video tracks. How sand or why do folks use multiple video tracks? It seems that all the video transitions are between different clips on the same track, can a transition span tracks? Might there be some good videos or books that might enlighten me to some more advanced usages?
    Sam

    Here's an example...
Video Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Video Track 2 - Title (lower third graphics)
Video Track 3 - Title (lower third text)
Video Track 4 - Over the shoulder graphic (think "news report")
Video Track 5 - Bug/logo lower left corner
Audio Track 1 - Clip (main program)
Audio Track 2 - Music (underneath)
Audio Track 3 - Sound effects (whoosh! zing! bang!)
Audio Track 4 - Audio commentary (director, talent)
Just something to get your brain going. I've never used more than 10-15 video layers simultaneously (doing green screen work, titles, mattes, etc), and never more than about 6-10 audio tracks. But that's just me....many people need more than that to accomplish whatever they're doing.
Another thought...even though you "can" do transitions and cuts all on one track for most simple projects, some people prefer to use the track numbers as an organizational structure. Put all your cuts for scene 1 on track 1, all your cuts for scene 2 on track 2, and so on. This can be very useful for scanning the timeline and looking for specific changes in the overall storyline (whereas a single, long track would require another system of organization...either sequence markers or perhaps pure memorization).
    Hope this helps!

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • How do I copy and paste text style for multiple video tracks?

    hello,
I am creating multiple video tracks with text.  I want to easily copy and paste the style, i.e., Font, Color, Size - rather than having to scroll down the giant list of fonts to find the one I want, then change the color, then change the size - each and every time.  This is arduous.
I tried copy / paste of one text onto a new video track, but when I type in a different word, it alters the original.
I have 9 tracks of video for 9 different texts that will pop in and out of my video.  I would like to be able to copy/paste then just change the text.  This would save me a huge amount of time.

    paulrudophmusic
I know of no way to alphabetized the Adobe Styles that come with the program.
If you had the time and the inclination, you could rename them all to force them to appear alphabetically, but that does not seem all that practical.
But, if your interest is in the Styles that you save and you do not hit the Reset File List, the new Styles will be at the bottom of the list and you can name them so that they appear that alphabetically at the bottom of the whole Styles list. But that does not address the matter of you having to scroll to the bottom of the Styles list.
In some instances, some things that you think that you cannot do in Premiere Elements obvious features, can be done by computer keyboard shortcuts. I check the keyboard shortcuts under the Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization and unfortuately did not find any that would be applicable to this situation.
As for your changes in one text file popping up unwantedly in another text file, that is because you have text files with the same name. Look into creating duplicates (with different file names) in Project Assets at the onset.
