SHOULD I DISMANTLE MY ZEN V PL

I'm very frustrated with my mp3. 2 days ago it was fine but after resetting the player a couple of times (because of problems) it would not turn on. So i charged it and now its been charging for nearly 2 straight days! The blue lights flash only once every minute or so, so im very worried...Should i wait and hope for a miracle (that my battery would be revi'ved) or should i open it up myself and try to fix it'sIf you know how to open it up safely can you please tell me? by the way, my warranty is already over since i bought it 4 months ago.

If you're in the US, the warranty should be 90 days full (parts and labour), but year for parts (so you only pay a labour charge then). If you open up the unit, you won't have any warranty though.

• Should I buy a Zen Tou

I'm thinking of getting a refund for my 30 GB zen xtra because it doesn't play audiobooks with the proper length and buying a Zen Touch. Is this audiobook problem just with Zen Xtra or with all Creative players? Does anybody know of this problem disappearing with the newer Zen models? Thanks!

Windows Explorer properties don't seem to tell you, but a program like Winamp can under the file properties.
Yes, try converting to a CBR file.

• So....should I buy a Zen Mic

Hi there! I'm a newbie who is looking to buy an zen micro, but having had a bit of a look around on here, I'm really concerned about the possibility of major software/ headphone socket problems. I don't know if these were problems with some of the early batches, or are atill going on. ?60 is a lot of money for someone who is on a student budget, so i'd really appreciate any feedback- especially as to the helpfullness of creative labs customer services if somsething does go wrong- i don't want to be stuck with a busted player 3 months down the line, with a company who are unwilling to replace/ refund me. Thanks!

I just ordered the micro on amazon.com. the headphone jack problem does exist. if it happens to me, i will return it and give micro another shot. btw, if the micro is faulty, and you return it to creative, will they send in a new one?
even the reviews on amazon.com are not that valid because once they received their micro, they more than likely posted that review a few days later. few days later is not enough to warrant a "no headphone jack problem". the headphone jack problem might occur much much later: weeks to months. so all those reviews were made in a rush. i think they should make reviews of the product after 3 months of constant/intermittent use to see how durable it really is.
go buy it, i know i did. it came down to carbon and micro. but micro is a superior player, except battery wise.

• Should I buy the Zen V Pl

Hello everyone,?I'm looking for a new player that's compatible with Raphsody. I know the Zen V Plus is able to work with this program but has anyone ran into any problems or concerns that I should know of? My last player started having issues with Raphsody and it's own software, so I believe it was a player issue. Basicly, I want to know you're overall opionion on how relyable and stable the Zen V Plus is, I want a player that I can transfer music too and not have to fool around with tech support and/or formatt it every 5 minutes. Is the Zen V Plus for me?Thanks!

?I like Zen V Plus very much. I find some good review for it, I quote it here:"The good: The Creative Zen V Plus offers a cute, pocket-friendly design without sacrificing screen real estate, and the vivid OLED display is viewable from any angle. The player is packed to the gills with features, including an FM radio, voice and line-in recording, photo and video playback, and compatibility with subscription WMA tracks. Oh, and the sound quality and battery life are great too. ..."It is from.http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-players/...7-3228423.htmlI think Zen V Plus is a good choise for you. And it is not expensi've now, I found that a recent deal for?a 8GB?is only $60, you can check it out.http://dealstudio.com/viewtopic.php?t=30774

• Should I install "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSourc

I have the Play For Sure firmware on my Zen Touch, now I'm going to first install the driver on my computer, then install the creative media source, then the play for sure software suite, and then the media source CD plugin. Should I also install the Zen & Nomad Jukebox plugin afterward or that's only for ppl who haven't upgraded the firmware?
Thanks!

The "Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource" is for those who have the non-PlaysForSure firmware. So, you do not need to install it.

• Should I upgrade my Zen Xt

I'm uncertain on whether or not I should update the firmware on my Zen Xtra.
On one hand I don't care anything about online music services. I prefer to rip my own CDs.
And on the other hand I find the MTP support useful.
I am confused on whether the firmware will only allow me to add music from Music Services only. And not my own CD ri
ps.
This would render my Zen useless.
Will I loose any features like EAX?
This firmware upgrade ... may reduce the total number of files that the player can store. The actual results will vary depending on content specifications,
What? How many less files will a 30GB Zen hold? And what are the content spefications?
I just want to know if this upgrade can be useful to someone with no intentions to use online music services and doesn't care to use Windows Media Player to manage thier files.

I'd say that if your old firmware is working okay, and you don't need the PlaysForSure compatibility, stick with what you have. Pretty much all it would do is set your Xtra up to work with WMP and online music services (you would still be able to rip CDs as well), and a lot of people on these boards have had huge problems with it. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Always safer to stick with something you know to work well, but I suppose it depends on how badly you want the MTP functionality. • I spilled beer on my Macbook Air, and it is unresponsive. Should I dismantle and clean it?

I spilled a small amount of beer on my 11" Air, and it shut off immediately. I let it dry, and it is still completely unresponsive several days later. I have applecare, but I understand that applecare does not cover liquid damage. I have only had the computer for about 6 months. It was a major investment for me, and not easily replaceabIe. I am wondering if I should go to the trouble of dismantling and cleaning the parts. Would this possibly bring the computer back to life? I am not tech savvy enough to know, but I am guessing that if the motherboard/circuits are damaged, there is no hope. I would appreciate responses from people with knowledge/experience.

I am wondering if I should go to the trouble of dismantling and cleaning the parts.
That really wont do any good.
dont turn it on, water / liquids migrate.
Turning it back on is BAD, damage A can lead to B leads to C etc.
Also water migrating around, especially while on, can wreck havoc worse than initial damage.
Nobody here can speculate on damage on something they cannot see.
Having repaired laptops in the past, even IF you got it completely dry, residue from water (iron particles etc), and wet spots under fine contacts is nearly impossible to "dry out", its just doesnt work that way.
Lots of people try to "dry it out", most to learn little was solved in doing same, and sometimes further damage occurred.
Taking it apart, youll just about never "dry out it out" due to the all the hidden spots that will REMAIN wet for some time, even IF you dry to "dry it out"
Also corrosion will set in when dry, and the dry residue can jump connections causing further damage
Make appt. with Apple store fore repair / diagnostic.
dont turn it on again. Sorry about the spill

• Which player should I buy? Zen Sleek vs. Zen 2

I currently own a Nomad Zen Xtra 30gb which has served me well for 2 years, but the hard dri've has started to fail (dropped it one too many times) and I am looking for a sexy replacement.
I will not be using a music subscription service so that won't matter to me and I won't be loading photos so the photo future doesn't matter to me either.
I will be loading my cd collection using the fastest transfer software available and listening to music.
So, which of these players is better?
Ease of use?
Physical size?
Durability?
Glitches?
Firmware?
Best software for loading songs?
I know these haven't been on the market for very long (well, not in the US anyway), but any help in deciding would be greatly appreciated.

I li've in the Boston area and the Cambridge Soundworks store near me has just received the Zen 20gb and the manager didn't know what the Sleek was. Hard to believe since the store is owned by Creative, but true.
Ah! Now that I think of it someone mentioned this before, so it sound like they have got outside Asia Pacific.
Why would you take a Sleek over a Zen 20gb?
I just prefer the shape of it. Features are pretty much identical from what I can make out.
Ultimately it's down to the originator to look at the players, look at the features, and decide.

• Should I buy a Zen Mic

I really want to get a Zen Micro, but I'm worried about the headphone jack problem. Does anyone know if Creative has fixed the problem in the newer Zen Micros? and if so, how do I know which ones are the new Micros?

bberenbaum wrote:
Every player has problems, some more than others. The iPod has more problems than the micro, but the Rio has less (at least thats what I was told).
One thing to remember is that all of these MP3 players are essentially a new technology. They haven't been around all that long. So I think all models have their own set of issues at this point due to the fact that these devices are fairly new. Its gonna be a few years before everyone starts getting everything closer to perfect.
But I did some comparison shopping and tried out a few idfferent units and found the Zen Micro to be the best choice for me. I travel about 3 weeks out of every month and the size and functionality seem to work great for someone like me who is running their player on an average of 4-6 hours per day on a near daily basis and who wants something small enough to stick in my jacket pocket, but has a hard dri've to overcome the space limitations of a flash player, which typically top out at gig from what I could find.

• Should I get a Zen devi

Hi,
When I first heard about this device, I was seduced by the idea of having a small and cheap super-duper-disc changer. But after reading all the marketing texts, I'm still left with unanswered questions. If there are some kind folks here who could answer them, I would be grateful...
So far, my choice would be a Nomad Zen or a Jukebox 3. My requirements are:
- I want to put my entire CD collection on it (about 520 discs). My calculations tell me that 40 Gb is enough for that.
2 - Most of the time, the device will sit along with my other A/V components and will be connected to my receiver. I can use a "headphone plug to RCA" type of cable to do the connection but is there a better way? Does the device make a good CD-player replacement?
3 - I don't want to keep all my ripped discs on my computer. For one, I don't have the space and, two, I never listen to music on my computer. I want the device to be the primary data store for my music. I will rip a few CD at a time and delete them when they are transfered on the device. Will I have trouble building up my library this way? And, after that, will I have trouble managing my playlists on my "empty" computer?
4 - Speaking of which... I found contradictory informations about playlists. Can I create, modify and delete playlists directly on the device or am I forced to use the computer? Remember that I want to use the device as a disc changer. Every disc changer support a "program" mode. Do I have this feature with the device?
5 - Do you think I'll curse against the small display of the device when it is time to find an album or a tune amongst my 500+ CDs?
Thank you very much for any assistance.

2. I bought my first player, a Nomad Jukebox , to basically replace my car CD changer. It did just that, and I started using it indoors as well, to replace my in-house CD changer. So I can definitely recommend this for this reason. The RCA cable to headphone is really the only thing you can use, but it's not a problem.
3. This approach is fine.
4. You can create playlists on the device, although editing's?a little tedious. With software on the PC you can manage playlists on the player which is far easier, but it depends how complex and how many playlists you are looking to create.
5. I have in the past used my PC to control my player for this reason, using?a program called?Notmad Explorer which shows the entire player in a web browser. Even so, I don't find it difficult to find and queue albums on the player itself.

• Should I get the Zen Mic

I like the iPod mini, but am leaning toward the Zen Micro because it has FM. However I heard some complaints about the Micro freezing up and transfering files to Windows XP. How bad is this problem? Is there a fix for it's Thanks for your help in advance.
What is your overall satisfaction with the Zen Micro?

Aamadi,
From most of the posts that I have seen and from talking with customers I can say that it is unlikely for you to experience problems with this player. Much like with any electronic device on the market there are going to be units that have problems. What I have found is that in most cases the lock up is a one time happening and is repaired by a clean up.
I plan on purchasing a Zen Micro myself and highly recommend it to everyone who is looking for a very portable high capacity player.

• Should I buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch Playe

I am trying to decide whether to buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch. They are roughly the same price. I do not think I need 20GB, but I hate to constrain myself.
On the other hand, the Zen Micro appears to offer a few extra features like FM radio, replaceable battery, voice recording and advanced song handling (DJ, for example). The Zen Touch seems to have just the most basic functions.
So what do I do, get a gigantic player with minimal functionality (less than an iPod or Nomad) or a smaller player with more functionality (I am unlikely to use voice and FM recording, and use the FM radio minimally)?
It just seems like the overall Micro firmware is more robust than the Touch firmware, but I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it.
What are your thoughts?

I have a Zen Touch. I do not have an enormous music collection, but have maybe 50 or 60 albums on the player. This is something like 6 or 7 GB. It is WAY too much for me (even this much music). I do not need even that many songs on it at once. With support via WMP0 to synchronize, you could just synch up your favorites every time, switch them around, eventually synch up Napter 2 Go stuff and still have a ton on a 5 GB player. Features on the Micro that sound flashy but I would NEVER use are the calendar, contact thing. I have this on my phone, too, and don't use it. I have a PDA--I DO use that. An MP3 player is a pitiful substitute for a PDA (and a PDA is a lousy MP3 player). I would use the Audible Audio support in the Micro. Touch does not have this. I am a huge Audible fan. I had seriously looked at a Rio Carbon, but now that the Micro is out, that would be the player I would buy if I had it to do over again. They do need to develope a way to charge your extra battery for the Micro. The ability to swap batteries is pretty stupid the way it is now--you can only charge it in the player. They need a charger for the spare. Just my opinion, but I think some people get carried away with hard dri've potential. I can't forsee EVER wanting to carry that much music around with me, especially when it will be so easy to change what is on the player once full support for WMP0 comes out. I am just not away from my home computer library for that length of time that I would want to carry most of it around with me. I vote for the Micro.

• Should I get the Zen Micro Pho

On my Xtra, I have 763 songs... And I've used 5 gigs :-(.
I'd be able to get around ,000 songs on the Photo.
That's alot, rite??
Good idea? Bad?

Creative is known for great sounding players with many features. I have the micro, and I love it. I was considering upping myself to the 8GB Micro Photo when it comes out. However, rumor has it that Apple will be giving the iPod mini an 8GB HD and a color screen... a player definatly worth looking at it if comes out.
If you can fit your collection on a microdri've player, I suggest the Micro/iPod Mini. If you want a 20+GB player with a color screen, Creative is not the way to go. I suggest looking into the iPod, Cowon iAudio x5, or Toshiba Gigabeat.
For reviews on these players, look at www.cnet.com. Best of luck.

• Should i turn the zen touch off when recharging?? or should i leave it o

thanks.

You can either of the two.
If you go to settings you can turn idle shutdown time OFF, and that way your player will always stay on when you are charging.
Wheter or not you want it on is up to you...

• Should I wait to buy ZEN Micro Ph

I am getting a part-time job soon and want to buy the ZEN Micro, but the ZEN Micro Photo is coming out in Summer 2005, and that looks good, so should I get the ZEN Micro or wait for the Colour screen version?
P.S I had my Muvo TX 256MB for 3 weeks and is great, though I should have waited and got the 52MB version it is only 70GBP at eBuyer now.

I was in the same situation as you, wanting a Zen Micro but wondered if I should wait till the Zen Micro Photo came out. I decided that I didn't need the colour screen to show people photos and just wanted a small portable music player so I went with a Black Zen Micro and I am very happy that I did
