Should I update my Ipad1 to iOS5?

I'd do some research. Some users have reported issues, slower response time, lagging and instabilities.
I'd also be sure to back it up fully before you update if you do.
Some have even suggested to back up fully, then wipe your ipad back to factory defaults, THEN update to iOS5 and restore from backup. The idea is if the iOS5 install is onto a 'blank slate' it might reduce/elimate some of the bugs.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

Crashed meaning it will not start now? Try resetting the iPad and go from there.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

With the iPad plugged in, if I click Check for Upade in the Summary tab, I get a dialog saying "This version of the iPad software (4.2) is the current version."
Should I be able to update to iOS 5 from iTunes?

Error 11 when trying to update iPad1 to iOS5

I have tried to update my iPad1 to iOS5 for the past four days but keep on getting the message that my iPad cannot be restored and gives an error 11 code. I did not have have any issues to updating my 3GS iPhone to iOS5 prior to attempting the update to my iPad. Another frustrating thing in this process is that my hard drive is always filling up, and it creates issues when the upgrading process is stopped because there is no room on the hard drive. What frustrates me is that I am not doing anything at all in terms of saving things to my hard drive. All my work, pictures, music and video files (my iTunes library) are all stored and accessed to an external hard drive. I start with approximately 4gb of space remaining only to see that there is less than 20mb left, and I have done nothing other than trying to update to iOS 5.
I have updated to the new iTunes and all my software is up-to-date on my Powerbook G4.
Anyone else encounter the error 11 code while trying to update to iOS5; and, if so, how did they fix it?

Hi Joe. I discovered that in Windows the device backups for iTunes are not stored in the same folder as your iTunes library. They are stored in a user profile folder. When you perform the upgrade the software attempts to make a backup of your device into this folder and will fill up the drive with the temporary backup files. This complete backup contains all the media, applications, and data from the iPad.
If you are running out of space during the upgrade then I would suggest having at least as much free disk on your primary drive as is available in the iPad (16GB, 32GB, 64GB). Then try the upgrade again.
You could also try to remove the space-hogs from your ipad. Personally I had a bunch of recorded videos that iTunes tried to backup and restore after the upgrade was complete. Without the media my upgrade was successful.

OTA Updating is a feature of iOS 5.
Getting upgraded TO iOS 5, however, you have to connect it to iTunes like all previous updates.

you update it by connecting it to a computer running itunes and starting itunes up on the computer clicking on it in devices and clicking on the update button in the content menu
if it say you have the latests then it's because you don't own an iphone 3gs but an iphone 3g where the version 4.2.1 was the last released
in that case you can't ever update it

Photo rotation gone in iPad1 with iOS5??

I have recently updated my iPad with iOS5 (old iPad1, not iPad2)
and found out that photo rotation button in the photos app is GONE.
I'm typically using my iPad to import photos from my digital cameras by camera connection kit,
and when some of the photos are in wrong directions, there was this rotation button to fix it right in the old iOS4.
But now its gone without any explanations!!
I'm not asking Apple to support advanced photo editing feature like Pad2 in my iPad1....
I just want the photo rotation function WHICH WAS THERE BEFORE back.
Is it just me, or are there any hidden intentions??

Stupid answer! Stupid and without respect for careful MacUser! The instruction manual iPad1 function is present with the "camera kit" and must remain so.
Do not they realize unuseable an expensive accessory Apple?
I checked if ios 5.1 rotation function has returned to work, but it is not so!
Boys fill the mail service, spread the problem on all forums, we use all the channels you know! Apple should make our voice heard. And if we are not heardwe are all going to return the "camera kit" asking for a refund of our money!

Downgrading the iOS is not supported. If you are using Safari this try clearing its cache via Settings > Safari.
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I have had this same issue but thankfully fixed it. Follow he steps below:
Sync your iPhone with you iTunes therefore your info is backed up. Unplug your phone.
Go to Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
Once your phone has reset and come back on answer the question until it asks if you want to back up from itunes Click this then plug your phone in.
After everything has sync'd back to your phone everything should work fine.

Ok, so a few years ago, I bought an iPhone 4 (I was in Zimbabwe, now in the US) that was factory unlocked from what I can tell. Reason why I "THINK" it's unlocked is because
1. It did not have Cydia installed when I got it, just stock with native apps only
2. Running on 02.10.04 Baseband (That cannot be Cydia Unlocked), I manage used several Network Providers and all Sim cards worked and still do, no problems. (Using T-Mobile Now)
3. Model Number is MC603B, and according to my research, it is a factory unlocked model.
Unless im mistaken???????
Here we go. The iOS 5.0.1 is out and I am now running iOS 4.1 (Jailbroken), which is really bakward, so loads of tweaks and apps cant run on my outdated iOS and i want iOS 5. I have heard people all over the internet complain that after the iOS5 upgrade, their phones locked-up and can't dowgrade or activate after the update, so if that happens im STUCK forever, and I really dont know what to do!!!!
HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:
1. Is my phone really factory unlocked, based on what I listed above? Or is there any other way of checking???
2. If I DO update, do I risk locking-up my phone????

Well, since the iPhone is not officially sold in Zimbabwe, & that's where you purchased it, you can pretty much count on the fact that it was hacked to unlock it, regardless of what you think or see. Thus, you can be pretty much assured that if you update software your phone will be re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to.

You only have the option if you are already running iOS 5. If you are trying to update the iOS, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.

I updated my 3GS to iOS5, but when i double tap the home button, it doesn't show the camera app, just the ipod controls?

I badly need help, i just updated my 3GS to iOS5, but i don't see any difference, i don't have the new features that they're talking about. When i double tap the home button, it just shows the iPod controls and no camera app shows up.

My iPhone 3GS is still on iOS3 but I think you could already change what double tapping the Home button can do before iOS5, by tapping "Settings" -> "Home". That may have changed in iOS5 but I don't think it should have.

If you have iTunes 10.5 or later, it should allow you to upgrade to iOS5.
