Should I use JMS?

I have a new project where I need to send XML messages to a client from a server and vice-versa. However, my clients are embedded 16-bit micros and my server application is written in Java. The clients will be mobile, connected via a wireless network and may be connected or not connected at times to the network.
I want to be able to queue outgoing messages for each client so when the client becomes availiable on the network the server can send the necessary messages to the client. But the client cannot use JMS API to subscribe...etc to queues, it can only send simple commands using XML to the server via a socket.
Is JMS something I can use here?
Any suggestions and information is appreciated.
Thanks.
Dave

Sounds like we are trying to do simillar things :)
Why cannot your client use JMS ?
You can embed XML messages inside JMS messages, so you should be able to send messages both ways.
I curious how you are attaching to the JMS bus without being a JMS client?

  • Should I use JMS or any alternative?

    Hi,
    I need to implement multi-client server system and I have a problem in its architecture. Any help would be great!
    The system works as follows. The clients ask for some services, and the server checks the database whether this service is available or not, if yes, it returns some information about the service to the client.
    Here it seems, i need to use point-to-point jms. But in this scenario there must n queue for n clients and how can the clients know the name of queues and when (n+1). th client comes then a new queue should be created, but how can the server know about the existence of new client?
    Any solution or you think I should chnage to RMI,CORBA?
    regards

    I don't see why the server should have to maintain more than one queue. The clients can all send messages to the one request queue, and the server can use Message:getJMSReplyTo() to figure out where to send the reply. Each new client will, of course, need to create a new response queue, but the server will always get the queue reference from the request message:
    Destination replyTo = message.getJMSReplyTo();
    if ((replyTo != null) && (replyTo instanceof Queue)) {
    qSender.send((Queue) replyTo, message);
    ( The client may need to call the setJMSReplyTo method on the message before sending it. )
    Depending on the scalability requirements of your application and the intricacy of the messages you're sending you could certainly use RMI instead, but it doesn't sound like you have to use RMI.

  • When we should use JMS based proxy services and when JMS Adapter in OSB

    Hi,
    Can somebody explain me when we could go for JMS Adapter and when we should go for JMS based service in OSB?
    The one scenerio i can think of is when my provider/consumer is using jms provider other than WLS jms provider we should use jms adapter.
    Edited by: user12883209 on Jan 5, 2012 5:29 AM

    I don't think there are clear guidelines available, however here is my view.
    1) OSB 11gR1 is not certified with Oracle JMS Adapter. It is certified with Oracle FTP, Database, AQ and application adapters.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e15867/interop.htm#OSBAG1403
    2) In addition of the Weblogic JMS, OSB can also integrate with following provider without using adapter.
    - WebSphere MQ
    - Tibco EMS
    3) if you need to integrate JMS with BPEL Process or Oracle SOA suite composite, it has built in support for generic Oracle JMS adapter. Oracle generic JMS adapter can integrate with AQ JMS (JMS providers OJMS 8.1.7, 9.0.1.4, and 9.2), TIBCO JMS, IBM Websphere MQSeries (IBM MQSeries JMS 6.0), Weblogic JMS, Apache, and Active MQ
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/integration.1111/e10231/adptr_jms.htm
    4) If you need to integrate OSB with Weblogic JMS, WebSphere MQ, Tbco EMS it does not need JMS adapter.
    Hope this helps !!!

  • How to get the incoming file name using JMS adapter and SOAP adapter

    Hi Everybody,
       In one of my interface i need to get the file name of incoming flat file using JMS adapter at sender side. and then i am using xslt to convert it to IDOC and then posting to  SAP IDOC.
    my incoming filname are in this form price<DateTimestamp>.txt. when i do the tranformation this incoming file name should be part of one element in the IDOC which i am posting.
    EX:
    <IDOC
    <REF>price<DateTimestamp>.txt</REF>
    </IDOC>
    Hope it is clear to everybody. I need your suggestion how i can capture this incoming file name and send it as part of IDOC.
    Thanks
    raj

    If they are passing it in message id or correlation id,
    you can access it using
    <xsl:variable name="dynamic-conf"
            select="map:get($inputparam, 'DynamicConfiguration')" />
        <xsl:variable name="dynamic-key"
            select="key:create('http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/JMS', 'DCJMSMessageID/ DCJMSCorrelationID')" />
        <xsl:variable name="dynamic-value"
            select="dyn:get($dynamic-conf, $dynamic-key)" />

  • How  to Set JMS property and Read JMS property in BPEL using JMS adapter

    Does any one know how to set or read more than one JMS property in BPEL using JMS adapter. My queue server is Oracle JMS server.
    Any help and sample is well appreciated

    Hi Van
    I have noted that only the attribute "type" is missing. It seems that when you create a "string" property, the attribute "type" is droped from the XML. If you use another type (as "integer" or "double") it stays there.
    If you try to read your properties, except for the "type" attribute, you should be successful, as I am. If you need, please tell me your email, I can send you my code.

  • Async/Sync Communication using JMS adapter without BPM

    Hello ,
    Pls suggest how Async/Sync Communication using JMS adapter without BPM .
    In my scenario I have JMS Sender and then RFC/JDBC as Sync and then again JMS receiver
    Pls explain  the concept of
    JMSMessageID and JMSCorrelationID  and how to use it by an example.
    Regards

    Hi,
    If you have selected JMSMessageID, JMSCorrelationID, or JMSProperty and entered a JMS message ID in these fields, you should see the Remove 'ID:' Marker from JMSMessageIDindicator. Set the indicator.
    This is necessary because the JMS specification stipulates that each JMS message ID starts with 'ID'. However, this conflicts with ISO-11578.
    - JMSMessageID (Uniqueness Is JMS-Provider-Dependent)
    (String) The unique message ID. Note that this is not a required field and can be null. Since the JMS provider might not use your provided message ID, the Connector sets a special property called $jms.messageid after sending a message. This is to insure that the message ID always is available to the user. To retrieve this value use conn.getProperty("$jms.messageid") in your After Add hook.
    - JMSCorrelationID (Uniqueness Is JMS-Sender-Dependent)
    (String) This header is set by the application for use by other applications.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Accessing Tibco-EMS queue from XI(using JMS adapter)

    Hi All,
    I am currently working on a Tibco Integration scenario with XI thru JMS(Sender) adapter. I have gone through some of our SDN forum threads and come to know that we have to deploy some TIBCO specific jar files to the fetch data from TIBCO-EMS queues. But still have the following query on
    1. what are all the JAR files(TIBCO JMS libraries) needed to be installed in SAP J2EE engine? I have got the following JAR files from TIBCO guys...
    tibcrypt.jar
    tibjms.jar
    tibjmsadmin.jar
    tibjmsapps.jar
    tibrvjms.jar
    regards,
    Raks

    Hi Raks,
    Check this note for JNDI configuration..
    802754
    "If a 3rd party JMS provider should be used then usually the "Name of JNDI initial context factory" must be adjusted. I.e. com.sap.engine.services.jndi.InitialContextFactoryImpl must be replaced by some.other.vendor.jms.jndi.InitialContextFactory In addition it is necessary to deploy the jar that contains the some.other.vendor.jms.jndi.InitialContextFactory with the aii_af_jmsproviderlib.sda SDA file. In addition, you must extend the server/provider.xml deployment descriptor in the relevant way. Refer to Chapter 11 of the XI 3.0 Configuration Guide for more information"
    You need to find out class "Name of JNDI initial context factory" for tibco  as mentoned in the note and deploy the corresponding JAR file.
    Also check this link for JNDI configuration parameters in the JMs adapter..

  • SOAP - Why not use JMS as the transport layer?

    I have been looking at the SOAP standard and can't understand
    why something hasn't been done. I wondered if someone could help.
    With the current Apache SOAP implementation there is a SOAP
    Transport interface which is implemented for SMTP and HTTP. The
    format of the messages never changes. Although it is not a
    protocol it seems eminently sensible to me that there should be
    a JMS implementation. Then infrastructure bridging cold be used
    to give a universal message queueing standard.
    Being as the current standard supports asynchronous messaging
    over SMTP. It seems to be a trivial matter to add to the SOAP
    implementation that Oracle supply. Does anyone have any good
    reason why it shouldn't be done and is there any reason Oracle
    and other standards body members couldn't have implemented it
    and agreed it in the standard?

    Am I missing something? I wasn't thinking of embedding JMS
    messages over HTTP, but using JMS itself. This would provide an
    industry standard for message queueing message formats, and
    would allow interaction with any message queueing product
    through bridges (i.e. OMB, with no real work). Aren't you
    talking about something different?

  • SOAP using JMS

    Hello,
    We are in the process of experimenting SOAP using JMS using Weblogic Server 10.3.
    1) Is there a way in Weblogic 10.3 during deployment(NOT during development) we can switch the transport to JMS instead of http. We want to do this during the deployment phase because the product that we are building will ship to an end customer. We want the customer to pick the transport layer for the webservices that he/she is going to deploy.
    2) Is there a standard way of doing SOAP using JMS instead of using proprietary annotations, for example in Weblogic we use the following to change the transport layer to JMS.
    @WLJmsTransport(contextPath = "transports", serviceUri = "JMSTransport", queue = "JMSTransportQueue", portName = "JMSTransportServicePort")
    Any pointers in this direction will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
    I'm familiar with the links provided. I believe everything is configured as it should be, but since I get error I would like to have my configuration confirmed. Neither the weblog (or SAP guide) are detailed enough to convince me 100% that my configuration is correct. Surely the problem could be on the MQ side, but before going into that, I want to be sure that its not on XI-side.
    So I really would like confirmation on the steps/question that I wrote:-)
    Best Regards,
    Daniel

  • ESB vs BPEL : which one should we use

    Hello All-
    We need some pointers regarding the strength and weaknesses of ESB and BPEL and in which scenarios we should be using either ESB or BPEL or both.
    Currently, our EDI processing system is on BPEL 10.1.2.0.2 version and the details are given below:
    BPEL 10.1.2.0.2 and Oracle Integration B2B 10.1.2
    BPEL is used for transformation and feeding the messages to B2B. It's also used for transaction tracking, error handling and notification. We have implemented both inbound as well as outbound EDI.
    File, DB and AQ adapters are heavily used but we have seen severe performance issues under load
    As part of upgrade to 10.1.3 version we are evaluating whether we can use combination of ESB (using the file adapter) and BPEL(for transformation, transaction tracking, error handling and notification) and whether it is recommended. Basically we are evaluating the option of migrating the processes to 10.1.3 version as -is or introduce ESB to reduce performance bottlenecks.
    Please provide us pointers to recommneded best practices as well as any documents/case studies.
    Please get back to me if you need any additional information.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Dibya

    Hi Dibya,
    Oracle BPEL can be used for integration code but its not designed/optimised for it.. Oracle BPEL is a Business Process Execution Language and as such its optimised for managing and coding business processes, whereas an ESB is quite simply a highly efficient intergration product. Its principle objective is to join two different services together quickly, efficiently and bi-directional.
    Specifically an ESB moves data via
    Connects services via different adaptors (WebServices, FTP,File,JDBC etc) and protocols (HTTP,JMS)
    Enriches and transform data using XSL & domain value mapping lookups
    Routes messages based on data in the message payload and/or header
    and finally and often overlooked feature is that an ESB
    Virtualises services, quite simply adds a facade layer to your infrastructure...
    Its also worth noting that doing integration work with Oracle ESB is not only quicker to "build" but its also quicker in its execution. I've been told by some collegues in the US that an integration process in ESB product is approx twice the speed of same process in Oracle BPEL..
    So to recap
    Use ESB when
    You want a really low cost solution
    Only need connectivity, simple transformations and routing
    Use BPEL+ESB when
    You need to code complex business logic
    Integration with Workflow
    Complex transforms potentially involving the database
    Have Long running processes which may or may not be stateful.
    Cheers

  • Issues with TopLink Cache Coordination using JMS for manual DB updates

    Hi,
    We are having 2 web application using same Database and Toplink library but 2 session objects for both the applications. We are using JMS for cache coordination. JMS propagating messages successfully between the applications and able to see the same object changes in both the applications properly. Now, we are trying to refresh cache for manual updates in Database. We are trying to refresh single object which is modified in database in one application, refreshing in one application from which refresh happened but not in other application (JMS publishing the topic but updating one).
    Our intention is refreshing in one application so that JMS should coordinate and update in others when DB manual updates. Please let us know any comments for the same.
    Database using: Oracle 11g

  • Configuring Toplink Cache Coordination using JMS

    After having spent one whole day reading documentation on the above topic, I did not get anywhere. I am looking for a direction to start aquainting myself with Oracle JMS basics to enable me with the configuration in toplink. I hope someone could please help me in getting started, direct me to documentation and/or examples and then I could have some specific and meaningful questions to ask.
    As of now, I have these questions.
    1) In order to configure Toplink Cache Coordination using JMS, do I use Oracle AS JMS or OJMS provider?
    2) Should I be configuring OJMS before I could use Oracle AS JMS?
    3) If I am using Oracle 10.1.2 Application Server, will OJMS Database Schema be defined and the resource adapter deployed by default or is there a way I check this using Oracle Enterprise Manager Console.
    4) Should I be adding a JMS provider within the OC4J for the application I am using before I do any of the above?
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Swapna

    Ok. I found my answers
    1) In order to configure Toplink Cache Coordination using JMS, do I use Oracle AS JMS or OJMS provider?
    Either of the one can be used. Here is what I found regarding the trade off
    OJMS and OracleAS JMS are both J2EE 1.3 compliant JMS providers from Oracle. OJMS has been integrated into OracleAS 10g using the JCA adapter while at the same time leveraging Advanced Queuing in the Oracle Database for persistence and recoverability. If database recoverability guarantees, SQL queriability, transparent application failover, message transformation, propagation are required then Oracle recommends using OJMS as the JMS provider.
    OracleAS JMS is a lightweight, in-memory/file based queuing system that provides a complete J2EE 1.3 JMS implementation. It is suited for applications that do not require Oracle specific JMS extensions or the recoverability guarantees that OJMS provides.
    2) Should I be configuring OJMS before I could use Oracle AS JMS?
    No. OracleAS JMS is always provided and preconfigured, except for the topics and queues, with the OC4J installation.
    3) If I am using Oracle 10.1.2 Application Server, will OJMS Database Schema be defined and the resource adapter deployed by default or is there a way I check this using Oracle Enterprise Manager Console.
    No. The schema needs to be created by the admin and OJMS needs to be configured as the JMS Provider using this schema.
    4) Should I be adding a JMS provider within the OC4J for the application I am using before I do any of the above?
    Yes, if not using Oracle AS JMS.
    Hope that was accurate.

  • Throttling using JMS Adapter poller threads

    Hi,
    We are trying to realize the throttling using JMS Adapter poller threads mechanism
    I came across this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/core.1111/e10108/adapters.htm (15.5 Oracle SOA JMS Adapter Tuning )
    adapter.jms.receive.threads
    Here is my configuration. I tried both the options listed below but none works for me.
    option 1 - here property is of type string
    <service name="JMSDelayMsgRead" ui:wsdlLocation="JMSDelayMsgRead.wsdl">
    <interface.wsdl interface="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/JMSDelayMessage/JMSDelayMessage/JMSDelayMsgRead#wsdl.interface(Consume_Message_ptt)"/>
    <binding.jca config="JMSDelayMsgRead_jms.jca">
    <property name="adapter.jms.receive.threads" type="xs:string" many="false">4</property>
    </binding.jca>
    </service>
    option 2 - Here property is of type integer
    <service name="JMSDelayMsgRead" ui:wsdlLocation="JMSDelayMsgRead.wsdl">
    <interface.wsdl interface="http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/jms/JMSDelayMessage/JMSDelayMessage/JMSDelayMsgRead#wsdl.interface(Consume_Message_ptt)"/>
    <binding.jca config="JMSDelayMsgRead_jms.jca">
    <property name="adapter.jms.receive.threads" type="xs:integer" many="true" override="may">4</property>
    </binding.jca>
    </service>
    I tried minimumDelayBetweenMessages parameter for throttling (which is based on time delay) and it works as expected but poller threads mechansim is more suitable for my situation.
    Here is my environment details
    I'm on SOA 11.1.1.4
    JMS Adapter consuming from a Topic (IBM MQ)
    Durable Subscription
    Can any one help me get throttling using poller threads working?
    Please let me know if you need further details about my configuration / logs etc.
    I posted this in two other forums but didn't get any responses on them so posting it here. I apologize for the repetition of this post in multiple forums.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Raks,
    Check this note for JNDI configuration..

    We have 4 iphones and an Ipad in our family. When we purchase music, I would like for the entire family to be able to use it and then back it up to Icloud. What is the best and cheapest way for this to happen.  Should we all have a different apple id or should we use the same one.

    You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
    You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.
