(Shoutcast) Have QT play a playlist

I'm having a shoutcast-server serve my users on-demand content. The URI to those files are: nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:port/content/file.mp3. This is a streamed file. Shoutcast also creates a virtual playlist for that file with the same filename, but ending with .pls.
Now I'm trying to make an embedded quicktime player play a playlist of files. E.g.
nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:port/content/file1.mp3
nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:port/content/file2.mp3
nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:port/content/file3.mp3
However, when creating a .pls file and directing the embedded player to it, it'll only play the first file and then give me a "-3285 Not Connected" error when it's supposed to segue to the next file. Any idea why this is, or how to play a playlist of streamed files in an embedded QT-player?

You open your playlist, you click one of the two buttons to start it playing.
Then say, you decide to have a look at your albums in the ALBUMS pane, so off you go there. What possible use is a pause symbol in the playslist window now ? That's why it's in the upper left. And the Shuffle and the Repeat icons are in the top central play information box. Where you can always see them where ever you are.
The shuffle works a lttle differently now. Shuffle doesn't actually change the order of the songs in the actual playlist, it just randomly selects the next song. Want to see the order ? In the top central information box, on the extreme right, is the "Up Next" symbol (3 bars). Click that and it will show how your playlist has been shuffled and even the name if the playlist in case you've forgotten. Click the little clock and you can see what's recently been played.

  • I have a number of playlists configured to play songs I haven't heard in a while. They then drop off the playlist once they've played. When I use my iPhone, however, the songs stay on the iPhone version of the playlist. Why aren't they syncing properly?

    I don't like Apple's algorithm that constantly pushes the same songs at me, so I have a couple of playlists configured for songs I haven't listened to in a month, two months, etc. This has worked fine for years. Since I've gotten my iPhone 4S, however, things are goofy.  The songs are marked as played and fall off of the playlist on iTunes, but they stay on the playlist on the iPhone, which means they come up again and again in the shuffle of that playlist. Even if I sync the iPhone the songs are still on the version of the playlist on the phone and I can't figure out a way to "refresh" that playlist and get rid of them. I know this is my own particular quirk about my music, but it's worked with every other iPod I've had. I don't know why the iPhone is holding on to a different version of the playlist than the one on iTunes. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
    My iTunes is on a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

    I had a very similar issue (same playlist).  After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my  playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button).  To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly.  Good Luck.

    Hi,
    There are two easy fixes to this.
    One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
    Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.

    If I'm listening to a playlist on my Nano6, and it's set to "shuffle," if I pause and then turn my iPod off, will it "remember" which songs in the list have already played when I turn it back on? Or will it shuffle through even those songs already played?

    This got me curious when I first saw it... It does indeed seem very Un-Apple-like (at least historically) to prevent a user from customizing their own device - Mac or iDevice - but today I'm unsure. I cannot grasp how a UX designer could leave a simple "OFF" switch out of the control panel. Another thing that Music Data Streaming does is eat up your Data Plan.
    This May  not be the exact issue as you describe, but seems to solve an issue of a Radio Playlist in iTunes resuming where it left off from the last use...

    Play last song on list, songs will then stop.  Works for me on iPad. Haven't tried yet on iPhone.

    The computer has to be authorized for the account that purcchased the media.

  • Songs won't continuous play in playlist on itunes, Please Help!!

    Just recently when I try to play my music on my computer on itunes it won't continuous play in my playlists. Just one song at a time. I cannot figure it out. Can anyone help? Any suggestions?

    The songs in this particular playlist are unchecked because they are all AAC conversions that I load on my nano. For normal iTunes use, I have my songs in 320 kps. mp3s--but the files are too big for the Nano. So I keep this playlist, and uncheck the songs so I don't have duplicates playing in my regular libary. The songs don't play when checked and unchecked are together, but when it's just the complete unchecked song list they play in random order continuously until I stop them manually.
    good lord ... i don't believe i've ever seen that reported before. (no real surprise, i guess ... how would people realise that something strange was happening if it was happening to them? that would keep report levels down ...)
    can anyone else replicate samdogmom's itunes behavior?

  • How can you play multiple playlists sequentially?

    Hi everyone,
    I'm looking for some advice on iTunes. I've looked around the web and the forum but haven't found anything related to this specific question (though I find it hard to believe I'm the first one to ask it).
    I've created various playlists (not smart, just regular) with songs in an order that I like. I would love to find a way to be able to line these playlists up in a queue to have them played sequentially one after the other. Now I know you're thinking "why not just add them all to a new playlist?" That's one solution... but as weird as this sounds I was wondering if there's a way to set something up so iTunes will randomly select one of these selected playlists that I've created, play it through, and then randomly pick another of the selected playlists and play it through. This is different than a regular shuffle situation because I'd like the playlists themselves to be the shuffled items (not the songs - i.e the contents of the playlists retain their order). Why am I looking for this option? It allows me to create playlists in an order I desire and have iTunes select to play these lists (almost as if they were CD albums and iTunes was a 200 disc changer) at random, and would continuously play/loop.
    To try and put it another way if playlist A has songs 1-5, and playlist B has songs 6-10, and playlist C has songs 11-15, I want iTunes to randomly select A, B or C, and play them in their entirety leaving the 5 songs within A, B or C in their specified order in the playlist (so it won't simply grab song 12 from C, then song 2 from A, then song 15 from C).
    Does anybody know if this is possible? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Give every track in a playlist the same Grouping tag, then set your shuffle options to shuffle by Groupings.

  • Tip: How to play a playlist one song at a time from iTunes on a computer using the checkbox property

    I would like to share a tip about how to play a playlist one song at a time from iTunes on a computer. The tip I am sharing is simple, but I was not able to find it in the iTunes Help. After searching on the internet I found the idea for this solution in a discussion in which this was presented as a frustrating problem rather than a desired behavior. This tip relies on the checkbox for each song in iTunes. For a song in a playlist to play automatically, the checkbox must be checked. To keep a song from playing in a playlist, simply uncheck it. Therefore, to keep all songs from playing automatically in a playlist, simply uncheck them all. Now you have a list of desired songs in a desired order but none of them will play automatically. You can play each one when you want to play it without having to search for the next song and without having to be at the computer to stop the playing after each song.
    Step by step:
    1. Create the playlist.
    2. Uncheck all of the check boxes in the playlist (In iTunes for Windows, ctrl click one of the check marks to uncheck all of the checkboxes at once) 
    3. Now double click (or select and press spacebar) a song to play it. It will stop when finished because there is no other song checked to be played next.
    4. If you want to change back to normal sequential play, ctrl click one of the check marks again to change all of the checkboxes back to the checked status.
    Based on some discussions I found while looking for a solution (including at least one in which the questioner got bashed about why anybody would ever want to do such a thing and in which the proposed solutions were things like creating one song playlists or simply press stop after each song), some may not understand why this would ever be desired.  Here's why I wanted to do it:
    I was responsible for playing a series of songs at a dance. I needed to stop after each song to have a transition time to allow me to introduce the next song and to give new dancers time to get onto the floor and other dancers an opportunity to leave the floor. Furthermore, I was also dancing and didn't want to have to spend time searching for the next song (which is why I wanted to create a playlist in advance with just the songs I wanted to play in the order I wanted to play them) and I wanted each song to stop after playing since I was not at the computer to press stop.
    I hope this will help others who have a similar need.

    Thank you! I put some self help hypnosis tracks to listen to on my iPod. I did not want to go to the next track automatically, I wanted to listen to them individually, one at a time. (If I fell asleep, I did not want to 'wake up' in the middle of a different track.) Your information helps me understand that I need to re-load this playlist onto my iPod from my  Mac computer, only first, I need to UNCHECK the boxes in front of each track so the iPod will STOP each time after playing the selected track. It is too bad that so many functions are not availabvle within the iPod, but that is probably why they can make it so compact.

    I have a Sonos system.I have copied the itunes folder on the NAS drive so that I can play my itunes music via the sonos system, this works fine. However how do I get my playlists to play? Sonos manual and support tell me to copy the itunes music libary.xml file to the to the shared drive (NAS) where the music is stored. This I have done but still cannot play the playlists. Help. If I do get a reply can you make it simple with regard to computer speak. Thanks

  • Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?

    I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

    It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

    Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
    Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter.

    after updating to IOS 6, I went out to mow my yard and listen to my music via bluetooth headset as I have done all summer.  But to my surprise there was no longer a playlist not one!!!!!   so after mowing and listening to one album I tried turning on Match and now I have 2 of every playlist.
    I realize that there will be a few glitches when upgrading a new system.  I would like to see Apple come up with a simple way to contact Apple to let them know about these new problems.  This is only one of them and there are a few more on the iphone and even more on the newest ipad.
    for instance I buy 64gb iphones and ipads, because I do not want to stream my photos or music I do not always have access to wifi or cellular.  Plus with over 5,000 songs and 15,000 photos it takes to long so I want to store them and us sync to save changes.  I have a very advanced setup. with outdoor entertainment around the pool "covered" in the party room, in the house, in the RV outside the RV. The list goes on.  I want my picturesand music stored!!!! not all Streamed.  when ever we try to stream pictures or music for one of my parties there are freezes and hangups.  Not something I like when I have 60- 100 friends over.  Storeing all this to a device should be easy when I USB it to my IMAC!!!! also when I take pictures around my party and then the Apple TV fails to keep up streaming I plug the iphone into a source to the stereo's and the **** thing starts sending all my photo stream through the wifi to the computer and now it will not play music or photos until it is finished.   Here I go again with all these guest saying  I thought you said apple was better!!!!!  we need to be able to select when we want sync to happen to prevent this with out turning off icoud or phot stream.

    I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this. 
    Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
    I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
    I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?

  • Not all tracks play in playlists on iPad

    I have various playlists set up on my Windows 8.1 laptop. some of which I sync with my iPad.
    I have noticed that although all the track names etc. appear in the Music app on the iPad, when I play the playlist, all the tracks do not play.  I have two questions:
    1) Is there a way to find out if the files are on the iPad but not playing, or if they're not actually there, and
    2) a) If they are there, how do I get them to play, or
        b) If they're not there, why not, and how do I get them there?

    I too have a Beep and have the same/similar problem. I run Spotify connect from my phone or laptop and connect to the Beep. When playing a playlist or radio station it will often repeat tracks and sometimes just get stuck playing the same couple of tracks over and over. If I try and queue tracks it is even worse. For example if I queue tracks 1, 2, 3 ,4 and 5. It will play tracks 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. This seems to have been a problem ever since Spotify introduced the "Play Queue" screen showing "Current Track", "Queued Track" and "Next track". The "Queued Tracks" will list the tracks I have queued, i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. But the "Next Tracks" will list tracks 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.  And that is what plays. This makes queuing absolutely useless. Infact the whole "Current Track", "Queued Track" and "Next track" thing is a complete mess.

    No, but if you are in the habit of listening to your iPod in Shuffle mode, then set the language files to Skip when shuffling.
    To set Skip when shuffling, highlight the track in your iTunes Library and click on File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling and then Sync the iPod to the Library.
    Note that if you select a single track, the Skip when shuffling is a tick-box. But if you select multiple items, the Skip when shuffling option becomes a drop-down menu where you choose either Yes or No. Even if that option says Yes, change it to No and back to Yes. This ensuures that all tracks you have highlighted are set to Yes.
    Another option is to create a separate Playlist that includes everything except the language files. This will require you to manually add any new songs each and every time you buy new songs.
    Alternatively;
    you could even create a Smart Playlist to automatically add all the new music but to exclude the language files. To do that, set the Genre of the language files to "Language" (or similar) and then:
    Make sure you are looking at your entire Music Library, not just one part of it or a Playlist.
    Click on File/New Smart Playlist
    In the line that appears, change "Artist" to Media Kind (from the drop-down menu)
    The next two boxes should now show is and Music. If not, change them so that they do.
    Click on the + box at the end of that line (this will add a new line)
    Change "Artist" to Genre (from the drop-down menu)
    Change "Contains" to is not (from the drop-down menu)
    In the last (empty) box, type in Language or whatever genre you have given to the language files. Make sure it is typed in exactly as it is in the files.
    Click OK
    Rename the Smart Playlist as you want.
    Sync the iPod with iTunes.
    Note that this Smart Playlist will automatically add any new music to it. You do not need to add new songs yourself!

  • Is it possible to play a playlist with podcasts in it? (Nano 3rd gen.)

    I can't play the playlist, the now playingscreen shows the title of a song (that's not even in the playlist) and 1 of 0 and nothing is playing. Happens with all playlists that have one or more podcasts in it. Playlist with only songs work good.
    I have already reset the iPod.

    "Apple" as a corporate entity, doesn't participate much in these forums. You can contact Apple Tech Support directly.
