Show only with error messages

Question

How can I have this: <div class="userMessage"> show up in my page only if there are any error messages to display? I have tried to to bind an outputText to my backing bean like this:
JSF page:
<h:outputText value="<div class=userMessage>" id="userMessage" binding="#{Registration.userMsg}" rendered="false"></h:outputText>Backing Bean:
UIOutput userMsg = null;
UIGraphic errorImg = null;
public UIGraphic getErrorImg() {
          return this.errorImg;
     public void setErrorImg(UIGraphic errorImg) {
          this.errorImg = errorImg;
public UIOutput getUserMsg() {
               return this.userMsg;
     public void setUserMsg(UIOutput userMsg) {
          this.userMsg = userMsg;
Iterator it = facesContext.getMessages();
               if ((it.hasNext()) && (errorImg.isRendered() != true)) {
                    errorImg.setRendered(true);
                    userMsg.setRendered(true);
               }I am doing this with showing an image next to the errors, and it works fine. I get an error on the jsp page that the value cannot have <. How can I get this to work?

Ok, I have tried this, but It is showing my table with the style, when the page loads up, but it shouldn't show this table because the rendered is equal to false:
