Shutting Down Exchange 2003 System after move to Office 365

We recently moved our entire exchange 2003 environment via a consultant to Office 365.   The migration went fine but now i am trying to shut down my old Exchange 2003 servers.   I know i cant shut down the individual 2003 servers without
removing the old mailboxes themselves from the stores.   I have attempted to remove some mailboxes from some of my accounts to do this but it removes the proxyaddress field on the user objects themselves.    Is there a way to delete the mailboxes
without the proxy address being deleted in ad?  Without that all my users email addresses are defaulting to the onmicrosoft address, which is really annoying   We are using dirsync for user updates and groups, so im losing the default email address
when it syncs up to office 365.  And yes I know about adsi edit to put it back it but that's not viable for 500+ user accounts individually.
Tried asking this on office 365 forums but they shuffled me off to here.

When your mailboxes were moved to Office 365, your directory should have been updated so it pointed to the mailboxes in Office 365, not to your local Exchange 2003 mailboxes.  Just thinking this through, I think your consultant didn't do a complete
job.  With the Exchange 2013 PowerShell tools, you should be able to update your 500 accounts so they point to the proper system for the mailboxes.

  • Clarification: Decommissioning Exchange Mailbox server after move to Office 365 will not cause problems with the remaining Exchange CAS server

Environment: 1x Exchange 2013 Mailbox server
    1x Exchange 2013 CAS server
All users migrated to office365. MX record pointed to Office365
    DIRSync implemented
Clarification: All users are now using Office365. As per recommendation from Microsoft there should be 1 exchange server to be retained and the rest can be decommissioned. I tried to test the scenario by shutting down the exchange server
with the mailbox role and leaving the exchange server with CAS role online. I tried to run Exchange Management shell on the CAS but I'm getting errors. To clarify, once I have uninstalled the Exchange server mailbox will the CAS still look for the mailbox
server? Or do I need to decommission both Exchange servers and then install a new Exchange server with CAS role?

    Hi
If you are looking for a hybrid coexistence with office 365 then at least one Exchange 2013 Client Access and one
Exchange 2013 Mailbox server must be installed in the on-premises organization to run the Hybrid Configuration wizard and support Exchange 2013-based hybrid deployment functionality.

  • Sequence for shutting down Exchange 2010 Servers

I have 3 mailbox servers, 3 CAS servers, 3 hubtransport servers, in active production, and I have 3 mailbox servers, 3 cas servers, and 3 hubtransport servers, as a DR.  I have a DAG between them and a Cassarray
These Servers are virtualized using vmware.
I need to know microsoft's BPA for shutting down these servers to move to another location.

Follow these- are you completely shutting down the server or planning to do the maintenance.?
    http://exchangeserverpro.com/forums/exchange-server-2010/3186-datacenter-power-shutdown-need-shutdown-all-exchange-servers.html
    http://www.kreslavsky.com/2011/04/shut-down-exchange-2010-dag-member.html
The correct way to perform any maintenance is to run first  StartDagServerMaintenance.ps1 script that is located under “C:Program FilesMicrosoftExchange ServerV14scripts”
This script moves all the active databases to next preferred DAG server and prevents active databases from moving to that server during the maintenance.
In addition the script ensures that all critical DAG support functionality that may be on this server has been moved to next proffered server
Once the DR site servers are in maintenance mode you can bring the serves down in DR site first, CAS and then Hub.
And then on the Primary Site shutdown the CAS and HUB, Dismount the DB and shutdown the servers.

my computer displays grey screen and apple logo for 10 minutes or more during start up and shut down. sometimes it refuses to shut down . this issues started after installing OS lion. what do i do?

I don't think it's exactly an incomplete installation brody, but most likely in-correct permissions somewhere along the line that either happened, or became magnified during the upgrade. Also, it could be corruption as well.
First thing to do, is boot up holding down Shift key to do a safe-boot so we an clean up any corrupted OS caches, after that do another reboot, but go to the Lion recovery, and scan the HD for errors, repair any if you find them, and then try to do a Repair Permissions job.
That should fix the issue, if not, we can start doing a PRAM reset  and SMC for good measure.

Just got the same error message today.  My phone went to the black screen of death with the error message at the top.  Contacted Verizon via chat.  Was online for 1 hour and 15 minutes only to find out that nothing could be done which I could have told them based upon what I had read on this site.  Of course my phone is out of warranty since I have had it for 1 1/2 years and I am not eligible for an upgrade.  How convenient!  I was told to contact Nokia which I did and they gave me a download to try to reset everything.  It looked like it was working but after almost 3 hours it got to the end and nothing happened.  It just froze even though it said it was done.  I rebooted the phone and am back at the same black screen of death.  Guess I have to buy a used phone and then will have to reconsider whether or not to stay with Verizon going forward.  I have not had any issues with the phone in the past - keep it in an otter box, never dropped, never got wet, etc.  But all of a sudden it goes haywire like this that seems like either a hardware or software problem but something completely out of my control and all I get is sorry, you're out of warranty!

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...

  • Winmail.dat attachments from Exchange 2013 on premi and Hosted Office 365 set up.

    Hello TechNet,
I have an on going situation with winmail.dat attachments. I currently have a ticket open with Microsoft, but I want to see if anyone has personal experience with this. Here is the rundown.
We have migrated from an Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2013 for the migration to Office 365. We also have a hosted Office 365 server with half of our mailboxes in the cloud and half of them on the Exchange 2013 on premise server.
    The current settings for TNEFEnabled:
    On Premise: False
    Hosted: False
Whenever a internal email with a calendar invite(exchange calendar, go to meeting) goes out to any external domain the recipients receive winmail.dat.
When settings for TNEFEnabled On Premise and Hosted are set to true both calendar invites and PDF, Excel attachments etc the recipients receive winmail.dat.
When speaking with Microsoft about this issue. The representative was watching me through a LogMeIn session as I set both TNEFEnabled false on both on Premise and Hosted.
This is really frustrating as many employees depend on this to be fully functional, and to be honest am tired of dealing with this.
    I need help.
    -Ben

I am having the same issue.
Luckily I have only migrated my own mailbox to office365.
Tried both true and false TNEFEnabled on both onpremise and office365 via powershell and confirmed that both have been applied.
If I send the email as a plain text then the attachment works ok. If I send it as HTML then I get winmail.dat.
The above KB doesnt really help me, sending plain text emails is like going back to the dark ages!
I am sending from outlook to outlook (I send from my external email address, to my work email address and visa-versa)
If someone with an onpremise mailbox sends me an email, the attachment works ok.
If someone sends me an attachment via hotmail, the attachment works ok.
It seems to only effect emails I send to myself through outlook, i am sending it through a POP3 account to our onpremise exchange 2010 which forwards the email to office365

  • System Will Not Shut Down & Apps No Launch After Moving File -- HELP

I downloaded a "WordServices.service" file and read to copy it to the "Services" folder in the Library folder of the home drive. I created a Services folder in the Library folder that I found below the Applications folder, moved the file to it and restarted, but the WordServices did not show up under the "Services" drop down menu in the Finder like I thought it would. Then I found a "Library" folder in the "System" folder and tried moving the file there by dragging and dropping in a rather sloppy bumping the bottom window until the file listing scrolled down to the System folder. But it would not copy and I got a message that the Services folder can not be modified.
Then I noticed that most of my apps would not launch, getting the "Application quit unexpectedly" error message. Launching Dashboard and Software Update generated the same error message. But a few apps would launch, like FireFox, iTunes and Stickies. When I tried to shut down the computer, the desktop disappeared as normal, but then reappeared, without shutting down. I tried removing the battery for a re-boot, but when it came back up as normal, the same problem persists. A ran the program "Onyx" to repair permissions and run a maintenance routine, but still no fix.
I tried re-installing several of the apps that were not launching, but would get an error message when I clicked on the disk image, "The following disk images failed to mount: Image (app. name), Reason "Broken Pipe."
My "System" folder just has the "Library" folder in it. Is this correct? Evidently I have accidentally moved some files and/or corrupted them when I attempted the drag and drop into the System's Library folder, or when I created a "Services" folder in the "upper" Library folder. Any recommendations on how to proceed in getting this straightened out? Thanks.

Download and run the10.4.10 Combo Updater PPC
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
You may need an alternate way to mount the .dmg. If you have Toast that should work (Utilities menu >> mount disk image) or if you have another Mac, you can use Firewire target disk mode

  • Database shut down and file systems are still busy

We have been copying our production DB over to a reporting DB for the last 3 years. The process we use on the reporting database is: shutdown the DB ABORT, restart it, then shutdown immediate. Then we umount the file systems and copy the production over using a Flex Clone on the NETAPP, remount the file systems and start the database back up. We used to shut down the listener which does not share the oracle binaries on the unix system but lately have left the listener up because other DB's use it. Every so often after shutting down the report database in prep for the copy, the file system that contains the binaries is busy and we can't unmount the ORACLE binaries.
So my question is how does the listener know if the database is up or down? Is it reading something on the volumes we're trying to unmount to see if the database is up? We have users that schedule jobs in odd hours and was wondering if them hitting the listener and even though the database is down it's making the file systems busy?
    Any help is appreciated.

Listener is NEVER involved with any ongoing packet exchange between client & the DB.
Listener takes original connection request & if the DB is up passes the request to the DB.
After this initial handoff, the listener has NO more involvement with packet exchange between DB & client

  • Shutting down iTunes causes system to slow down

When ever I shut down iTunes my computer slows down considerably. When I check windows task manager under processes it shows iTunes to be still active and taking up about 90% of my system resources. I have to shut down iTunes in task manager to solve this problem. Does anyone know what may cause this?

  • No VM, No Edge/3G, random shut-downs since iOS4 Update after restores

I have followed all of the fixes I could find and I still do not have a notification that I have a vm, I do not get any internet service via 3G or Edge, and the phone shuts down and cannot be turned back on for for several minutes (happens randomly). This is so frustrating. I now have a phone that has had the iOS 4 reinstalled twice, it has been restored twice, I have a new vm PW, I have a new greeting, I have turned the airplane mode on and off, I have made all sorts of other setting changes per the forum. The only place my phone has data functionality is in my house and that is negligible. But I can't make phone calls in the house because the reception is so poor. Any other brilliant fix ideas from anyone (please help!)? I am so frustrated I could cry. This 3GS is useless to me now and I won;t be able to get a new phone until the next shipments come in. Those seem to be having their own issues too (which apple is blaming the user for or telling them to ride it out).

I have figured out a fix for the Cellular Data, MMS, and VVM not working after upgrading to iOS 4. All of your data will still work with your phone but you will lose your camera roll so please back that up to your computer 1st. Also, initial reports are that this fix does work for iPhone 4 and will restore Face Time functionality.

"Ok guys, here it is another new fix that covers it all while maintaining your data. (CAUTION: Photos from the camera roll will not work after this method is complete so please back them up to the computer first. I'm not responsible if you lose your pictures.
This method is based off of dankirsh's SMS Restore method (Only fixes Cellular Data), loveturtle's Non-Corrupted APN Restore method (Only fixes Cellular Data), and my own unique concepts which seem to fix everything and keep data intact minus the photo roll.
    Step 1:
    Windows Users: Navigate to "X:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup"
Mac Users: Navigate to "~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup/"
NOTE: "X:" is the drive you installed Windows on and "User Name" is the name of your account on Windows.
    Step 2:
Move all Backup files to another location to make sure the entire folder is empty.
    Step 3:
Plug in your iPhone and perform a full backup.
    Step 4:
After backup completes, disconnect the iPhone and copy the new folder under the backup directory to a separate location perferably named "Old" for ease of use.
    Step 5:
After folder completes the copying delete it from the backup directory, NOT THE NEW LOCATION.
    Step 6:
Plug in your iPhone and perform a full restore.
    Step 7:
Upon completion of restore if iTunes asks to restore from a backup that you select a new configuration. While configuring the iPhone for new settings uncheck all sync boxes including Applications and Data. <-- (IMPORTANT)
    Step 8:
Right click the iPhone and backup the iPhone.
    Step 9:
Upon backup completion copy the new backup folder out of the previously mentioned location and copy it to a folder called "New".
    Step 10:
Delete the backup that was recently created in the Backup folder.
    Step 11:
Copy the backup located in the previously created "Old" folder to the Backup folder.
    Step 12:
Upon completion of the copy go into the randomly named folder and delete a file named "8218978e4ab0a48035bb92653145a6be872ea858", then right click the iPhone in iTunes and select "Restore from Backup" and select "Ok" since this is the only backup in the folder.
    Step 13:
Upon backup restoration completion let your iPhone sync itself with the computer and restore all of your applications. (At this point all is back to what it was like at the beginning of Step 1.)
    Step 14:
After all of your Applications are synced navigate into the "New" folder and into the backup folder located inside of it, it will be named as a random string of numbers and letters.
    Step 15:
Copy and overwrite the following files from the randomly named backup in the "New" folder to the "MobileSync\Backup\Randomly Named Backup" folder; "Manifest.mbdb", "Manifest.mbdx", and "Manifest.plist", they are located near the very bottom if sorted by name.
    Step 16:
In iTunes right click the iPhone and "Restore Backup" once again since this is the only backup available, click ok.
    Step 17:
iTunes will display an error and reboot the iPhone, this is normal.
    Step 18:
Upon boot of the iPhone, check your Cellular Data, MMS, and VVM to verify all is working fine.
    Step 19:
If all is working, delete any backup located in the "MobileSync" folder and perform a full backup again. As stated before, your camera roll will not work anymore for your old files. The files appear to be present on the iPhone but are corrupt and will be overwritten when a new photo is taken.
Enjoy your fully functioning iPhone once again and please keep your OLD backup files as I am not sure if the App Data will backup now. I will have to continue more testing with this.
FINAL NOTE: Resetting network settings did not break my iPhone after completing this method.
Update #1: Reports from a few users are indicating this method does work for the iPhone 4 and does fix Face Time. See post #68, #69, and #71 for more information."
