Sidebar;  a real joke; DEAL BREAKER FOR LEOPARD

The Sidebar is impossible to read. I am 58; use special glasses for work on my
23" Hp Monitor on my dual 2.0 G5; MBP 15".
I can't read the sidebar. The Icons and Font size is RIDICULES; I NEED TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THOSE SO I CAN READ THEM.
Apple are you listening?
This is a deal breaker for me. I have installed Leopard on a Dual G5, MBP ; 20" Intel Imac. I will be going to my Carbon Copy Cloner backup and move them all back to OSX 10.4.10.
So SAD; SAD; SAD. Especially when this where Apple usually shines.

Download "TinkerTool" from www.bresink.de
Ignore the Warning about possible incompatibilites - the program will not harm your system.
Then, in the "Font smoothing" options, set to:
"Turn of font smoothing for font sizes 144 pt and smaller"
close the application
log out and log back in.
or/and, if this still Works:
Create a Directory in your home Folder called ".MacOSX"
inside there, create a textfile named "environment.plist" with the following content:
<pre>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>QDTEXT_ANTIALIASING</key>
<string>0</string>
<key>QDTEXT_MINSIZE</key>
<string>144</string>
</dict>
</plist>
</pre>
log out and log back in.
Does it look better then ? Dont know if that helps but give it a try.
Btw. I thought I did hear something about 10.5 offering "resolution independent" display - but find nothing related to this.
Anyone else noticed this too ?

  • Deal Breaker for iPhone

    Not being able to perform THE MOST BASIC FUNCTION of sending and receiving photos to other cell phones would have been a Deal Breaker for me. Since this is one of the most basic of functions, it didn't even occur to me to check on that particular capability. Puts back the real meaning of "assume."

    You have 14 days from the purchase date to return it for payment credit - less a 10% restocking fee if the packaging is opened. If you are a new at&t subscriber for the iPhone, you can cancel your contract with at&t within 30 days of the activation date with no penalty.
    Certainly if an important function to you, and something you use often, you discovered this within the first 14 days after the purchase date.
    Or you can accomplish the same via email for recieving and sending MMS.

    CC is a deal-breaker for me. I'm off to look for similar software. Skip

    First, let me freely and proudly confess.  I do not use Adobe products to earn my living.  I'm a retired military guy within six months of qualifying for social security.  I'm not likely to matter in anyway within Adobe's marketing schemes.
    I started using Photoshop way back on Windows 3.  I started using Indesign when Quark was the darling of printing shops.  I switched to Dreamweaver after less than happy experiences with competing software . . . and HTML5 wasn't even a blip in the common imagination.  Now, I own Creative Suite Master Collection 6.
    Many of us purchased Adobe software which they abandoned within a year or two or three.  That's on us.  Didn't think Creative Suites would be another one.  That's on me.
    I'm an economic non-entity.  I know that.  I use Adobe software, when the opportunity arises, to support nonprofits.
    Whether or not I switch--is that an upgrade?--to "Creative Cloud" doesn't matter.
    The writing was on the wall when Adobe stopped publishing print manuals.  They must have eliminated a host of printing and distribution costs with that move.  Now, they seem to have eliminated the cost of publishing and distributing DVDs.  Sound move . . . from a CFO's point of view, I would think.
    Doesn't mean I won't switch/upgrade to the "Creative Cloud."  Since I normally upgrade at the issue of each new version, I'm still weighing the benefits/cost to an old guy who goes back almost to Photoshop 1.0.  I just don't buy the hype that Adobe implements this model for the benefit of all their old and potential customers.
    I just don't know.
    Maybe I'll try it out for a year.  Or, not.

    While looking to upgrade to a newer MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. Syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me for several reasons. Are there any workarounds or do I have to go back to a PC with my tail tucked between my legs?

    When you say wired syncing, are you meaning between an iphone and your mac?

  • The Samsung Galaxy S6 might not be water resistant - would that be a deal breaker for you?

    Last month, we heard that the upcoming Galaxy S6 would not be water resistant, thus missing one of the important features of Samsung's former flagship S5.
    The Samsung Galaxy S6 might not be water resistant - would that be a deal breaker for you?

    Hello datgeekgirl,
    I hope that you are enjoying your Samsung Galaxy S6! It is discouraging to hear that the ordering and pickup process may not have been as smooth as expected, as it seems you may have charges on your account for a two year agreement when you selected the Sprint EasyPay option. I am sorry if this experience may lead to your returning the phone.

  • IPhone4 will not pair with a Prius - a deal breaker!

    I cannot pair my iPhone4 with my Prius. Tried everything - bluetooth on and off, disabling 3G, rebooting the phone soft, rebooting the phone hard, rebooting the Prius. Nothing. This is a deal breaker for me. The iPhone4 is being returned.

    The iPhone 4 sounds every bit as crappy when paired with my Prius as the 3G and 3GS did. Well... I take that back. I can hear the caller slightly better. But the caller still can't hear me for all of the noise, drop-outs, and muffled sound. I still get a screeching noise when I try to pair, too.
    After many calls to both Toyota and Apple techs about the 3G, I gave up and got a Blueant S1. It's not the ideal solution, but at least it works.
    Note that other people are successfully pairing iPhones with their Prii, so I really don't know why mine is having these issues.

  • E1200 - Terrible download performance was a deal-breaker

    I was trying to decide between this model and the Netgear, both low-cost, basic wireless routers. My last Netgear had died rather earlier than I expected (about 4 years) so I gave the Linksys a try.
    The installation experience started out easy, but quickly turned frustrating. At first I thought everything was working, but after a few hours I noticed that web sites that normally loaded very quickly were taking quite a long time, and file downloads sometimes became painfully slow. A quick check on speedtest.net showed that I was only getting 0.5-2 Mbps, which is about 1/20th what CNet's lab tests showed in their review, and about 1/10th what I was getting on the wired connection to my desktop. Strangely, upload performance was fine at 4Mbps (the same performance as the wired desktop saw) so I was pretty convinced it was some configuration problem and not (say) signal strength.
    Diagnosing the problem wasn't made any easier by Cisco's software, which makes basic setup very easy but hides details like channel settings behind something called "Wireless Protected Setup" which was never clearly explained anywhere. (There is a "Wireless Protected Setup" button on the unit itself, whose purpose I'm still not clear on.) I turned Wireless Protected Setup off in order to access the usual wireless settings, but nothing I did seemed to make much difference.
    Technical support from Cisco was also not helpful. The live chat feature went all right until my network connection flaked in the middle of something we were trying, and at that point I stopped being able to give them information even though I could see what they typed. After not hearing from me for a few minutes they assumed I had fixed the problem (!) and closed the ticket. Given that we were diagnosing network issues, that seems like an overly optimistic assumption!
    I should note that Cisco's software has its own speed test utility, which is nice, but I couldn't use it on my laptop (where the problem was) because Cisco's installer complained that I needed to install using an account with administrator privileges. This was bunk, since my account definitely has administrator privileges, so I'm not sure what was going on with that; in any case speedtest.net worked fine so I stopped worrying about that part of the problem.
    Finally I went to a local Best Buy and purchased a Netgear. Five minutes later I was getting 20Mbps down, 4Mbps up, very much in line with what I would have expected. I'll be returning the Linksys shortly. Possibly this unit was simply defective, although I would have expected both download and upload speeds to suffer in that case.
    Overall, if the unit had performed according to spec, I would have been fine with the other limitations (tech support, awkward software) given the low cost, no-frills nature of the product. But the performance was a deal breaker. I reserve one-star reviews for products that are completely nonfunctional, intentionally fraudulent, or actively dangerous, but the e1200 certainly falls near the bottom of the range.

    The Linksys E1200 Wireless-N Router lets you access the Internet through a 2.4 GHz wireless connection or by using one of its four-port switch. As you mentioned in your post that you were getting a good speed on wired connection, however the speed on your wireless computer was not as good as you expected.
    In this scenario, you could change the channel on your wireless router to either 1,6,9 or 11 and keep your router in an open space, if possible somewhere at the top.
    The recommended security mode is WPA2/WPA mixed mode. Any other lower security type set on the router will reduce the speed on the wireless computers.
    Also, if you have more than one wireless computers, see if you are getting the same speed on the other computer or not?
    Transmission speed on wireless devices with a N-Series router and N-Series adaptor is above 100mbps which means router is capable enough to handle the speed that you get from your ISP. It's just the proper configuration which has to be done in order to get the optimum performance.
    Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a feature that makes it easy to add devices to your wireless network.  The WPS button is located either on the front or back panel of your Linksys device.
    For more information WPS: Read the following article http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=17336
    Incase, you have any difficulties operating Cisco Connect software, you could download the latest version of Cisco Connect from the linksys website. http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/E1200
    Also, depending upon the hardware version of the device, we need to ensure that the firmware version on the device is the latest one. The firmware could also be downloaded from the same web address. http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/E1200

  • Upgrade to 7.3 breaks my Leopard!

    Leopard on my G4 dual 1ghz tower has been working great since instal. Last night I upgraded to Quicktime 7.3 and iMovie 7.5 . . . now it boots to the desktop and goes into a permanent beach ball spin cycle. Called Apple after 3/4 hour hold and they told me to archive and instal . . . . ARRRRRGH!
    Anybody have any other ideas . . . re-installing is a pain and takes forever.

    I have a G5 imac and it breaks my leopard as well, but I have found a solution of sorts...
    Restart from the leopard cd holding the c key and create a root user in the accounts menu item then restart normally. If you've set your account prefs to log you in automatically, and if your doc is available on login, (even though you've got that broken finder) you can open an app (not system pref's though) in it to access the apple menu. logout (it'll quit that app you've opened), reopen an app and then force quit the finder. Next login as the root user and your leopard should work fine delete all the quicktime generated files-
    /Hd/Library/QuickTime Plugin.plugin,
    QuickTime Plugin.webplugin;
    /hd/library/caches/;
    /hd/library/preferences/com.apple.QuickTime.plist;
    ~user/username/library/preferences/QuickTime Preferences, com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist;
    /application/quicktime player
    now you can log back in and get back to work until apple finds a fix for this serious problem!

  • Z97 Gaming 5-First PC build-major/deal breaking sound issue

    The sound coming from the Motherboard, front panel audio jack and the audio jack from the IO at the back is EXTREMELY distorted. It is absolutely horrible, the volume is also extremely low, the sound is distorted and cuts out very often. This has rendered my speakers and headphones useless and is a possible deal breaker-if i do not get assistance i will have to replace this motherboard with another version. i have updated realtek drivers, latest bios version etc.

    Your realtek drivers is 6.0.1.7293 from MSI website?
    Try the latest High Definition Audio Codecs form realtek
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#1
    Believe it or not, .7293 is indeed the latest RealTek driver for the 892.  Kudos for MSI for getting it posted--first time I've seen the MSI-posted set newer than the set available direct from the RealTek site.

    Hi,
    For your issue, check your current language settings and ensure that search supports the current language.
    On the SharePoint Server open Registry Editor (Start -> type “Regedit” and hit enter).
    Point to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OfficeServer\14.0\Search\Setup\ContentIndexCommon\LanguageResources\Default\English
    Under the registry key for each of the languages there is a value called StemmerDLLPath and WBDLLPathOverride
    Updated the registry entry with NATURA~1.dll to NATURA~2.dll
    Point to Start -> Administrative Tools -> Services, right click on SharePoint Server Search 14 and click on Restart.
    Performed a Full Crawl and wait for the Full Crawl to complete and try searching again.

  • How do I transfer a licence for Leopard to a new computer

    Hi.
    I have a family pack for Leopard 10.5. All 5 licenses have been used.
    However, one of the machines now has a different OS on it, so effectively, only 4 of the licences are in use and I wish to re-use the final licence.
    How do I do that please?
    Thanks in advance for your help, folks.
    Neil

    How do I do that please?
    If you haven't already, erase the OS from that machine and install it elsewhere. The client version of Mac OS X uses the honor system, and the number or location of installations isn't stored or tracked anywhere.
    You won't be asked to provide the serial number during installation or setup.

  • I want to order multiple copies of an iPhoto book I have already purchased once. Is there a price break for multiple copies? Also, can I send to multiple addresses?

    I want to order multiple copies of an iBook I have already purchased. I have two questions:
    1) Can I send them to multiple addresses?
    2) Is there a price break for multiple copies?

    1) No.
    2) No.

  • Is there a workaround so for Leopard and iCloud yet?

    I have an iMac PowerPC on Leopard at work and a MobileMe account which syncs my iPhone4 (iOS4), iPad1 (iOS4), my work iMac (Leopard) and my home Mac Pro (Snow Leopard). Syncing works perfectly. I love it.
    I've been holding off on updating my MacPro to Lion and my devices to iOS5 and iCloud because I REALLY don't want to lose the ability to use Leopard Addressbook and iCal at work.
    I just hate the thought of my iMac Addressbook and iCal databases not being sync'able anymore rending them useless, certainly more and more as I add to my calendars and contacts on my other 3 devices with my iMac out f the loop since you can't go farther than Leopard on a PowerPC.
    If there is no way to keep my iMac in the synch "loop" after upgrading to iCloud, I guess I'll be forced to use my iPad or iPhone Contacts and Calendar at work and have them sync to iCloud so at least my iPhone, iPad and MacPro will be in sync.
    What a shame. I know I'm not alone. I can't get work to buy me a new Mac (especially since everyone else is on PCs) just so I can use my computer's Addressbook and iCal applications. Otherwise it's still a viable computer.
    I'm hoping there's some 3rd party programmer out there working on solving this issue. There are just too many Leopard computers out there with lots of life in them to become obsolete because of iCloud. What a strange way to kill a computer product and OS line.
    S

    The problem with the post above is that events created in ical don't sync to icloud,ical can only retrieve it from the cloud,so I tried something to solve that.
    Just figured out how to get an icloud-account in ical for Leopard 10.5.8
    you'll find the info in:
    ~/library/calendars/[the calendar that ends with] .caldav/info.plist
    Open the info.plist with textedit
    somewhere down the page you'll find <key>PrincipalURL</key>
    underneath this:
    <string>https://p02-caldav.icloud.com:/XXXXXXXXX/calendars/YYYYYYYY-YYYY-YYYY-YYYY-Y/</string>
    X.....being your unique ID
    Y.....being the calender ID
    In ical:
    -Click create account
    -description = whatever name you like
    -user name= apple id
    -password=apple id
    -server options= https://p02-caldav.icloud.com/[your unique ID]/principal/
    This creates the icloud account.
    Than:
    -export a calendar to the desktop
    -drag the calendar on the icloud account
    there's your icloud calendar!
    click 'get info' from that calendar and you will see the url that should connect to icloud but......it doesn't!
    Can anyone help me with that please?
    I tried a thousand different url's but I can't get ical to connect with icloud.

  • How do I create a table that breaks for new pages?

    I'm running Pages 5.5.1 on OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and am having difficulty understanding table behavior.
    Scenario 1 - I create a new file and insert a table at the top of the first (blank) page.  It automatically is selected for Object Placement>Move With Text.  If I add rows to this table, Pages automatically adds a new page and breaks the table so that additional cells appear on the new page.  All well and good.  If I change the Object Placement to Stay on Page, the second page and those cells disappear.
    Scenario 2 - I create a file and first add a few lines to the top of the first page.  Then, I insert a table below those lines.  It is also automatically selected for Object Placement>Move With Text.  When I add rows, the table does not break for the second page, but the entire table jumps to the second page.  If I change the Object Placement to Stay on Page, I can then slide the table back onto page one, but as in Scenario 1 the portion of the table which would continue onto page two disappears.
    So, how do I create a table that I can add to a page which is not blank (as in Scenario 2) which will break automatically onto page 2 instead of jumping, and so the rows appear on page two (not disappear as I describe above)?
    Thank you for your help.

    The inline table is supposed to break but like most things Pages 5 it is buggy and erratic in its behavior.
    Use Pages '09.
