Hello,
Am in the process of upgrading oracle 10g with 10.1.4.3 IDM,10.1.0.5 DB and 10.1.4.2 portal version to Oracle 11g. Now I see that there are some compatibilities in the OS. I have RHEL 4 and when I check the compatibility guide I see that it is possible to install/upgrade the oracle to 11g. But am worried on the kernel and packages which is needed for Oracle 11g. If there is any step by step assistance on this please guide me. Also I have an another query can I upgrade the OS RHEL 4 to RHEL 5 and then Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. Will I be seeing any issue after the OS upgrade with product upgrade. Kindly advise me.

This is all about libraries, some libraries between RHEL 4 and 5 had change and this may lead to malfunction of some products, cause they have been copiled using old libraries that doesn't exist now, even I think in the upgradres there are compatibility modes where let you keep old libraries, anyway seems a difficult thing to do. If you plan to move RHEL 4 to 5, I think this is your first step and then install again the Portal in the old version, and then make the upgrade, If you make this step by step, as firts install RHEL 5, install db, install portal, upgrade DB and finaly upgrade portal, would be easier. You may want to read the Master note for this upgrades in oracle Support 873751.1

I also faced a similar issue during upgrade. Some useful findings.
1. Only super user can access this /n/ASU/START
2. All the obligatory executable tasks are automatically performed by the system automatically during upgrade.      SAPADM. Only errors (if any) are to be corrected.
3. Some of the tasks are only to go through some SAP notes as a precaution before upgrade.
4. Execute all the checks /n/ASU/UPGRADE
5. This surely can be skipped, but not advisable.

Upgrade steps Details for 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.3 Database

We have one requirement from our client like "Upgrade the Database from 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.3". They are asking only the DB upgrade except Application.
Our Current Database is running in Solaris OS and DB is an 9.2.0.8 and Application is an 11.5.10.2.
I am going to follow the below documents for the Database Upgrade process using DBUA for First Iteration,

Kindly suggest me what are the details i have to collect and check in my Current Database or provide any proper Oracle documents for the Database Pre-Upgrade Process.

SCM5 - SCM7 Upgrade Error during LiveCache upgrade Step C4

We are in the process of upgrading our SCM5 system to SCM7 release level. During livecache upgrade step C4 to load transaction data, we are getting error CONNE_IMPORT_WRONG_COMP_TYPE. The dump says that "when importing the object 'OT_ORDERS", the component no. 5 in the dataset has a different type from the corresponding component of the target object in the program "/SAPAPO/SAPLOM_UPGR_PARALLEL". The data type is "P" in the dataset, but "C in the program".
Our source livecache version is 7.6.03.12 and target livecache version we are upgrading to is 7.7.04.29. We used BS 7 SR1 liveCache 7.7.04 DVD from service marketplace. We did not use the update DVD since the guide mentioned that customers on SCM5.1 or higher need to run livecache upgrade from update DVD.
All steps in A, B have already been completed.

SU25 Upgrade Step

Hello Experts - We just upgrade BW sytem from NW Enhancement Pack 7.0, SP-7 to NW EHP 7.1, SP Stack 7.
1)My question is do we need to do SU25- Upgrade step? I was in a impression that we do this step only for release upgrades.
2) Last time when we did R/3 4.6 to ECC 6.0 upgrade, I saw Yellow lights turned on many of our business and IS roles. Is this normal ?
I performed all steps per SU25, and had to fix all roles to turn off yellow lights.
Anyways back to my question 1, will you please let me know your thoughts?

Roles generally only add authorizations for objects in checks.
SU24 (with upgrade and SP data via step 3) generally only add documentation (check indicators) and proposals (check/maintain) so the development system is "leading" in that respect and you have already done this in the step 2 tasks.
But... there is a special case for collisions: namely when SAP proposes a "no check" indicator for an object.
My advise: Create a transport request and collect the proposals in them until a "no check" appears. Have one central transport for it and release it after correcting the roles which are impacted by the context specific check. Good luck with that in your custom developments...
In the rare case that you want to activate the check again for that transaction or SAP did, you must ensure that the role transports go through first.
For other scenarios of accepting all SAP's proposals it makes no difference so you can send the transports through afterwards, as long as you are not opening roles in PROD etc and have not maintained SU22 (a big "no no") nor SU24 in PROD directly.
Your friends here are the USOB_CD* tables and another obscure one - the name of which I cannot remember at the moment.

Why you want to be on 11g and not 10g on your Siebel upgrade large database

Hi All,
Just realized the issue of adding new non nullable columns that normally is a huge issue on Siebel upgrades should go away with 11g since the way this is handled is totally changed. Other than tables like s_audit_item which has a CLOB column should allow these columns to be added very fast.
This is good reason to go with 11g instead of 10g if you are upgrading Siebel.
When you add a column, the initial value of each row for the new column is null. If
you specify the DEFAULT clause for a NOT NULL column, then the default value is
stored as metadata but the column itself is not populated with data. However,
subsequent queries that specify the new column are rewritten so that the default value
is returned in the result set.
This optimized behavior differs from earlier releases, when as part of the ALTER
TABLE operation Oracle Database updated each row in the newly created column with
the default value, and then fired any AFTER UPDATE triggers defined on the table.
However, the optimized behavior is subject to the following restrictions:
■ The table cannot have any LOB columns. It cannot be index-organized, temporary,
or part of a cluster. It also cannot be a queue table, an object table, or the container
table of a materialized view.
■ The column being added cannot be encrypted

Ok well you need to get your facts straight. You say the reason to upgrade to OS 4 but half of these have to do with the new iPhone 4 and not the OS. Two totally different issues

Suggest the upgrade steps from 10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.4.0.1.
IS there any patch need to be apply for this upgrade or we need to do new installation for it.

First you need to take inventory of all Z developments ( Reports, FM's....)
Find out the Impacted FM's and programs....!!!
check for all the cloned programs/Includes...
check if the system is unicode enabled.
SPAU corrections
SPDD corrections
If System if Unicode ( correct unicode errors )
correct the obsolete FM's and obsolete declarations.
Correction for errors at time of testing.....SAP notes will help a lot in correcting many errors..
post go live support ....!!!
Few important points :-
FM LIST_TO_SPOOL not in ECC6.0. use FM is LIST_TO_ASCII.
Table TVARV has become obsolete. New table TVARVC has been introduced. We copied data from TVARV to TVARVC. ( check SAP note for Details )
Took back up of data in table T512W to T512B .Data can be restored after upgrade using the report RPU12W0C. ( check SAP note for Details )
FMs like WS_UPLOAD and WS_DOWNLOAD are obsolete now. The new FMs are GUI_UPLOAD and GUI_DOWNLOAD.
New Debugger is introduced.....Debugging is easy and user friendly.
u'll have to change few BDC screen numbers.....whose Screen numbers are changed in ECC...( u'll come accross this errors in Unit testing)

Public Sector: Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?

We are using Siebel Public Sector application (Case Management) in our product.
Every contact who is Primary under a Contact will be associated to a Master Case. If there is no master case associated with primary contact, siebel will create a new master case. In other words, Contact to Master Case is 1:1 relationship.
We are in the process of developing a new requirement where in a Contact can be linked to one or more Master Cases (1:M). Since this is deviates Siebel OOB feature we do not want to change it.
Instead, we have created a new custom stand-alone Table (which mimics OOB Master Case columns) and a "New Custom BC".
Created a link betwen Contact BC and New Custom BC (Id -> Par Row Id).
In "New Custom BC", field called "Master Case Number" has a dynamic picklist based on OOB "PUB Master Case" BC.
For other field we have mapped using pickmaps.
Our requirement is met but our only question is "Will this have any issues during Siebel upgrade?"

In doing some research, it seems there were some issues if you skipped an update but I did not find any information (only other queries) as to my original question of compatibility. Also, how can we access the older file if it won't open in 10.1.2?
Can I load 10.1.2 in addition to their older version to check and see what will or will not open correctly before I uninstall the older version? I don't want to load the new version and then have them not be able to access a needed file...

I am on my 2nd upgrade. With the first upgrade I had lots of problems with this step since it refers to an MOS note that has lots of information and refers to other MOS notes and it isn't clear what steps in those notes is duplicated within the MW steps.
The first time I did some things in the wrong order since there was no clear direction between the MW steps and all of the notes.
Is there anything that can help clarify how to correctly proceed through this task and the next task, Perform the Upgrade, which are so critical?

This is basic and understood.
3) Step 9.1:Apply patch 7303029
Here's what the MW says for the "setup" section:
"This step will download patch 7303029. It will also verify that the u67780700.drv driver is in the correct location and ready to be merged."
Here's what it says for the "execute" section:
cd $AU_TOP/patch/115/driver
admrgpch -d . -preinstall -master u6678700.drv
Neither of these steps actually applies patch 7303029 in pre-install mode but I am under the impression that this needed to be done at some point.
So, please provide the exact steps needed to get this done correctly.

Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.
