Signature images showing up as attachments.

This is a mild annoyance. When I receive an email message from co-workers with images in their signatures, they show up as attachments. Sometimes I read a message thinking I need to download something and it's just the company logo. Is there a way to disable this? I would even block signatures if that's possible.

Moved on to other software. Solved.

  • Digital Signature Not Showing Up in Saved PDF

I am frequently sent pdf contracts that need to be filled out, signed and returned.  I turn the pdf into a form and then add a signature field, click "certify with visible signature," sign it and save it as a pdf.  But then when I email the signed pdf it has all the form content but doesn't show the signature. Same for when I open the file in Preview.  The signature only shows up in Acrobat.  Can anyone help explain what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It was dsaks  who originally asking about creating a digital signature and that's what the core of this thread is about. When Mobius Strip  asked about flattening the signature into a bitmap image that I suggested using a custom signature appearance, because the progenitor of the thread was asking about digital signatures. If they can get by with using a custom stamp then that's fine by me, but that wasn't the thread topic.
    On to your questions:
    mrtoner wrote:
I understand why Adobe won't (if that's the case) license the digital signatures ability so that Preview and other applications can use it. However, it should be trivial to allow that wet ink signature appear in other apps and I don't see a compelling reason to prevent it -- afer all, it's not a digital signature.
There is no licensing involved here. The PDF specification is public and the Acrobat SDK even has an example of how to create your own signature plug-in. When it comes to the actual cryptographic operations we license the software from RSA. As far as how the signature is created, and how it should be processed, that's all covered by public facing documentation. In fact, Apple is more than capable of processing signatures using their Keychain utility, it's just that they have elected not to include that functionality into Preview.
If your job is to monitor this forum and assist users, why couldn't you manage to suggest that the other users use the stamps feature, since it was clear that what they were wanting was only the signature image? These folks are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on your products and they deserve better than this.
It's not my job to monitor the forum. I chime in on digital signature issues because it's a complex subject and there are so few people who understand the minutia of how they work. If dsaks hadn't added  "certify with visible signature," to the original post I would have skip this completely, but he/she did so I tried to answer their question.
Finally, it's a bit disingenuous when you stated "The image does not display at all, except in Acrobat/Acrobat Reader". It just doesn't display in the free Mac Preview app. There are other third party signature handlers that will process and display a digital signature in a PDF file, but there are not a lot of them in free PDF viewers. As I said above, if dsaks can get by with a custom stamp then great, but if he/she needs a cryptographically sound digital signature then there is no reason why not to created it because everyone can get the free Reader for the Mac, Windows and Linux platforms.

  • My signature image appears greatly enlarged, how to fix this?

About a month ago, my signature images started showing up much larger than their original size. Not only are they too big, but they're very fuzzy. This means that each time I have to manually shrink them. What happened that they no longer show up at their original size and can it be fixed?
    Thanks.

Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing on that page? In the meantime try this basic fix: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Differentiate b/w email attachment and an email signature image attachment

    Hello all,
I have a java program which checks a particular mailbox periodically for new messages sent by users and once there is a new message, it processes that message and copies that message to a particular record. Also if there are any attachments associated with that email, it will take those attachments and attach them to the particular record. All this is working fine. But when a user who is sending an email has an image as part of his email signature, that image is coming as an attachment to my mailbox and my code is picking up that attachment and appending it to the record as a new attachment. Is there a way to differentiate between the normal attachments that a user sends and the email signature image so that I can check for those image attachments before attaching to my record. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's no standard for these sorts of "email signatures" so there's no guaranteed way to detect them.
A common way to format such a message would be to put the message text as a text/html part
inside a maultipart/related part, with an image/jpeg part containing the image.
Normally attachments should be part of a multipart/mixed part, and should have a Content-Disposition
    of "attachment".
But many mailers play fast and loose with these rules, so you may have to experiment with some
heuristics to detect such signatures reliably.

    Agnes,
I think you should distinguish whether it is a behavior difference between
two browsers or it is an issue of WLS server.
You can copy suspicious html codes into a dependent html file, then check
how is is rendered by different browsers.
If you have further issues, please add commnets here.

  • Unable to Display Signature Image in Siebel BI Report

    Hi,
I have been trying to display a signature in a report but when I run the report the place where the signature should be is empty. I have searched through the log file but there is no error indicating anything is wrong. Siebel has an out of the box report which I have been using as a reference, their .rtf has the following in it:
    *<?for-each:psfn:transform(.)?>*
+(an image is within this for each)+
    *<?end for-each?>*
    *<?namespace:psfn1=http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/com.siebel.xmlpublisher.reports.XSLFunctions?>*
    *<?namespace:psfn=http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java/com.siebel.v_sia.shared.custom.Ls_recipt?>*
The field in the xml that contains the string of characters for the image is named, "ssSignature" what I do not understand is that I see no reference to this field in the rtf. So I do not know how the signature image could be displayed if it is not in the .rtf. Since this report is shipped out of the box with Siebel I would expect it is correct and therefore should work. Can anyone provide any suggestions on what may be wrong or how to display a signature image???
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Hey Fred,
Have you made any progress on this issue? We have the exact same issue and have an SR opened on Metalink. I must admit that the support has been lacking of late.
As I understand it the Signtaure string is encoded and at some point the OOTB rtf should be converting it to an image to be viewed in the report. I beleive that the function that should be doing this resides in either the InkToolsLib.jar or iSignBmp.jar so these must be part of your classpath environment variable.
Support says that the OOTB report works for them, but I have been trying a thousand different things to get this to work and our issue is still not resolved.
I'll keep you posted if by way of miracle a solution is found.

I have two email accounts on my iPad. How do I get a signature to show up on the second account?

The signature should show up with each account. Usually the complaint is not having an option for multiple signatures or not being able to have a different signature for each account.

  • How do I get the actual signature to show in a document using XI?

Been using Adobe for years and with the new update to XI I am having a heck of a time getting the signature to show in the document.  To check this I opened another document and was easily able to grab my signature and place it where I want.
For some reason the document I was sent allow for me to sign electronically, but when I choose to do so, I'm asked first to draw a box to where the signature is to be placed, then another dialog box opens asking for the file.  I was not able to find a place to add a new signature by using the methods used previously.  I have a signature in a file and has been used many times for other .pdf docs with zero issues.
Not sure why this doc is giving me issues.  The document sent to me is showing its from Adobe 7.x! Not sure if that is the issue, as it could be the problem placing the signature.
Please advise to try and get this resolved.

    Hi,
I assume when you say "another pop up" you really mean that your seeing this dialog...
Let's start with some nomenclature so we are on the same page. What you are trying to do is create a "digital signature" and in order to do that you need a "digital ID". To think of this in physical world terms, the PDF file is a piece of paper, the digital ID is the pen and the digital signature is, well the signature. In order to create a digital signature you must have something to sign with, and that something is a public-key based digital ID. This digital ID can reside in several places. It can be in a password protected file and the file would have either P12 or PFX as the file extension to the file name. The digital ID could be locked onto a token or smart card, in which case you would get access to it using a PIN instead of a password. It could also be locked into the Operating System. On Windows that would be the Windows Certificate Store (think of "store" in this case as storage, not a market place), and on the Mac it would be the Keychain Access application.
So the question is, do you currently have a valid digital ID (they do expire) or do you need to procure one? My guess is you need to procure a new digital ID and this is where you are being tripped up.
If you do need to procure a new digital ID, the next question is, do you need to get a high assurance digital ID from a trusted 3rd-party Certificate Authority (you, as the signature creator are the 1st party, and whomever you send the signed PDF file to is both the signature recipient, and also the 2nd party). The thing that makes a Certificate Authority (CA) trusted is because they will do identity vetting in order to ensure that you are who you say you are before they issue you a digital ID. When you get a digital ID from a CA you can think of it as a drivers license or password, not for what they allow you to do (drive a car or cross a border), but rather as a trusted and generally accepted piece of identification. Yes, a digital ID issued to you from a CA allows you to sign data just like a pen, but more importantly it acts as a trusted piece of identification. All that said, if you don't need a high assurance digital ID that proves you are who you say you are, then you can create your own digital ID. In that case the digital ID is really just a pen for signing and does not provide any trust regarding your identity. The advantage to creating your own digital ID is it's quick, easy, and free. The downside to getting a digital ID from a CA is it is time consuming and not free.
Since your have started down the path of creating your own digital ID already let's finish with that workflow and leave it for later to see if that meets the identity requirements of whomever you are sharing the signed file with. If you are seeing the dialog above select the bottom radio button next to "A new digital ID I want to create now", and then click the Next button. The contents of the next dialog you see is as dependent on whether you are on Mac or Windows. On Windows the next dialog asks you where you want to save the digital ID, either in a password protected file, or in the Windows Certificate Store. If you select the File option you will be asked to provide the password every time you sign a PDF file, whereas with the Windows option when you log into Window that provides the authentication to access the private key in the digital ID and thus when you sign a PDF file you won't be asked to provide a password. If you are on a Mac since saving the digital to a file is the only possible option this dialog is skipped. The next dialog is where you enter the information that you want contained in the digital ID that identifies you as the signer. If you've already filled out the Identity panel on the Preferences dialog then that data will be pulled in, but if not you you are going to need to add at a minimum a Name and an Email address, and then click the Next button. If you are saving the digital ID in a file, the next order of business is to pick a location where you want to save the file you are about to create and assign it a password to protect the private key from unauthorized access.  You're now on the last dialog for digital ID creation so you can click the Finish button.
This takes you to the Sign dialog. If you already had a valid digital ID to sign with you would have seen this dialog right after you inscribed the signature field and would have shipped all of the digital ID creation dialogs. If you saved your new digital ID in a file the Sign dialog will ask you to provide the password you just used (don't forget this password because you'll need it when you want to sign files at some later date). Enter the password and click the sign button. You'll be asked where you want to save the signed file (you can overwrite the existing file if you like, or you can save it as a new file), and once you've done that you'll have a digitally signed PDF file.

  • Edges of images show up in PDF

I have had this problem on and off, and I cannot make sense of it. I have several GIF images that were created in Illustrator and/or Photoshop and then imported (linked) into an anchored frame. When I generate a PDF, some of these images show a light or dark grey boundary line on the right side. Resizing the images in Photoshop sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. When regenerating the PDF with a couple of images changed, some of these are OK but others are not and sometimes images that were OK previously show the grey boundary line. Always to the right and not consistent throughout the document.
I am using High Quality print settings for the PDF. I am working in structured FM, but I guess this 'feature' has nothing to do with structured vs. unstructured. Maybe it is a bug in FM's handling of GIFs, although I do recall having similar problems with EPS files earlier. Can anyone tell me what causes the lines, and how to keep them from messing up my PDFs ?

Found the answer to this in the framers digest mailout (framers Digest, Vol 71, Issue 9). Hopefully it wll help you too.
I am not sure about the Illustrator files, but for Photoshop, resize your images so that the last number is an even number. (example: change 3.25 to 3.24)
This worked for me! I couldn't believe it!

  • Assign signature image to imported digital signature

I have a user who needs to be able to digitally sign documents for the State while using either his desktop or his laptop.  We have the desktop Acrobat X configured properly, where when he digitally signs a document, the signature image is included in his digital certificate.  To set up the signing on the laptop, I imported the .pfx file into Acrobat X on the laptop under Tools -> Sign & Certify -> More Sign & Certify ->Security Settings -> Digital IDs->Add ID-> from a file, where I browsed to the .pfx file.  I added the signature image under Edit->Preferences->Security->New where I imported the .bmp signature image exactly as I did on the desktop.  However, when he digitally signs a .pdf on the laptop, it just has a generic image of his name, not the signature image.  Where am I failing?

When you sign, you should see where you can select the signature appearance name from a dropdown in the dialog.

If I receive an email with 4 attachments (3 .pdf files and 1 .txt file), I get 3 attachments only, and the text file is displayed within the body of the e-mail, but not as an attachment.
