Signed cab file using j++, IE, XERCES
HI:
i am using j++ and adding class files from XERCES.jar
for parsing. I add the class files manually using J++
and they are definetly in the .cab file. And i am sure it downloads the cab w/ the files. But,
IE 5.5 gives me a classNotFound Exception when it tries to load in the classes. Any idea why they would not show up???

1. make sure you first unjar XERCES.jar in the same directory where your classes are
2. make the cab file using all the classes, yours and the ones from the jar file.
Here is an example:
cd <directory_with_all_classes>
cabarc -s 6144 -r -p n mycab.cab *.class *.gif *.ini *.propertiesIf you want, you can then sign the cab file using signcode.

Unable to get jarsigner to sign jar file using pkcs11 smartcard
I'm using a JDK jdk1.6.0_14 with a datakey smartcard with the below info in pkcs11.cfg file:

I have my environment set for the below to keep it simple as possible:

I was able to use jarsigner correctly after I backed off on the GemPlus driver version from v4.7.062 file name dkck232.dll to the previous version of dkck201.dll at v4.7.062. -

URLClassLoader + dynamically loading signed jar files
I have an applet that does not know all of the jar files it will need to load at startup.
I would like to dynamically load these signed jar files using the URLClassLoader, however it does not recognize these jar files as being signed and I get java.security.AccessControlException: access denied errors.
Any suggestions?

How to remove password-encryption in a signed PDF file?
I can open a password-encryption and digitally signed PDF file using Acrobat X Standard but cannot remove the password protection.
Can anyone help me remove the password encryption? The Acrobat only allows to set passsord encryption before adding digital signature to a PDF file. Can I sign a PDF file and then encrypt it with password? Thanks.Removing the security, if it is possible, would destroy the signature.
Encrypting a signed PDF would destroy the signature.
This is because signatures validate the file exactly as it is, and changes to the file break the signature by design. Setting security is a change to the PDF (a big change). -
Does anyone add a (company) signature to their Cap4 produced exe files? We try to sign all our executables and had no problems with Cap3 but are now having problems. The signed exe doesn't run, error screen shots attached below.
Some details... I'm using the aggregator to publish the .exe. All the swf files within the aggregator are swf files published with Flash Player 9. The exe runs fine before the signature.
Here is some information on how we sign the files:
We use signtool.exe to digitally sign files. This is a program distributed by Microsoft, here is a link to the documentation:

We also tried to sign the file using InstallShield 2008. This program signs all of our installs (exe files). We have never had any problems up to this point with any signed files.

From past experience the $ is not a valide integer error results when a .EXE attempts to open a SWF and the EXE cannot locate the SWF.
Hopefully that information may help guide you in where to look.
This one is new for Aggregator EXE files. I've not seen it reported before. You should probably file a bug report to Adobe about it.

I have a large number of .cab files used in custom application installs. I need to extract a .ini file from each .cab file and then read several specific lines from each .ini file. I have not been able to find way to open and extract the contents of a .cab file with LabView, any ideas?

CAB file is a proprietary file
format from Microsoft. LabVIEW does not have any built in functionality
to deal with cab files. However you created them somehow apparently so
then you should know how to extract something from them too.
The simplest solution is to use the system utility extract.exe. It
comes with every Windows install and does know how to deal with CAB
files. Check out http://www.modem-help.co.uk/help/cab.html for an
explanation of the extract.exe command line. You can call that
extract.exe command with System Exec.vi.

How to install MSFT application security updates in cab file format using DISM
Hi,
I tried to install security updates for MS Office which are cab files like any other windows security updates cab file. It is giving an error called "file not found". But other windows security updates cab files are installing fine without any error.
I tried to install these updates manually using DISM on commandline. It is not installing. I even tried using pkgmgr.exe, but that is not working either. I looked at DISM logs which is saying it failed opening the cab file. I tried different other commandline
options of DISM to install this, but nothing else is suitable for a cab file install.
Does anyone know how to install a cab file for application security updates via DISM.exe or other MSFT commandline tools?

I was just given my daughters Ipod since she got a new one and am trying to load the software and get that the data1.cab file can not be used, it says it could be a network error, an error reading from the cd or a problem with this package, I than said to retry and got the same message, than said to ignore it and got internal error 2350 and than error1603

2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
3. Type in a space, then the following line:

4. Hit return.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt

How to sign multiple jar files using the same certificate..?

I want to run my application using Java Web Start.. i am using around 16 different jar files out of which around 13 are 3rd party component jars. I want to sign these jars using the same certifcate..., i am using the follwing code to sign the jars:

andyWell for mulitple signing of jar files you can use ANT tool. Its easier and faster.
Regarding the present problem -- hmm.. well it looks like you are using 2 different alias names for signing the jar file. Try using the same alias name and that might solve your problem.

Using "done signing" increases file size 3 to 5 times !
The new feature in Acrobat Reader 10.1.2 onwards is great - I can add a signature and a date.
BUT if I use "done signing" the file size increases 3 to 5 times the original file size ! So I used File Save - and that worked well.
Then I updated to 10.1.6 - and now the signature that I added is not "fixed" - it can be deleted or moved !
We don't want to use digital signatures !!
Any suggestions ?
ThanksWhen you click the "Done Signing" button, the signature appearance and any text you added is flattened and becomes regular page contents and it won't be able to be moved or deleted as you describe. I also don't see a file size increase as you describe. Are you using an image for the signature and if so, how large is it (in bytes)?

Could scan all remote servers previously from same sources and version. Replaced/updated all cabs and other files associated (C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\MBSA\Cache) with no change. Removed/re-installed
MBSA 2.2 with not effect.
Local scans appear to function fine, but do not wish to download MBSA on EVERY system we need to scan.
Settings for remote scan are: Check for security updates>Configure computers for Microsoft
Update and scanning prerequisites>Advanced Update Services
options:>Scan using
Microsoft Update only
Have attempted from different systems/OS's, with same results. Checked firewall for any blocked traffic from both host and scanner, no entries.
Checked Technet/blogged for about two hours, without any positive results. Please advise/assist.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/cc184922 specifically under the sections titled, "How can I scan a computer that is protected by a firewall" (to resolve potential DCOM connectivity issues), and "When attempting to scan a remote machine,
why do I see the error 'Cannot deploy security metadata?"
This is also a very misleading error message since the problem could be due to connectivity to the target (client) machines - nothing relating to the CAB file. In any circumstance, you should not need to install MBSA on all of the target machines to
successfully assess their security state.
Possible solutions include
Confirm the latest WUA client is installed on all target machines (with the files you've already placed in the cache directory, you can simply check the scan option to "Configure computers for Microsoft
Update and scanning prerequisites" - which will update and re-register each target machine with the latest WUA client and the ability to respond to requests from MBSA.
Check whether the target machines have limited disk space (unlikely)
Check DCOM settings on both the server - but more likely due to the failure to remotely scan - the target machines.
Change the scan options to further troubleshoot. Specifically, 'Check for security updates' option uses a DCOM connection to the target WUA client while the other scan settings 'Check for weak passwords, etc." use specific UDP/TCP ports as indicated
in the System Requirements section of the MBSA help file and the MBSA FAQ. Also use the 'Advanced Update Services options' to determine whether WSUS connectivity may be at issue.
