Simple JSP to applet communication query

Newish to java web services (using Tomcat as container & JWSDP1_0_01)
Developing a project using applets in JSPs. Am attempting to link the two up using HTTP tunnelling and/or object serialisation. I am able to prepare data for the ObjectOutputStream. I cannot get the data to display in the JSP once it has been sent and 'received' by ObjectInputStream. As a check i am able to read the JSP's HTML code back in to the applet but none of the sent data. Do i need configure a web xml file for this to work or is it my coding ?

the penny has dropped.
Binary data can't be read by JSP.
Cheers,
jaymahinti.

  • JSP to Applet Communication

    Hello Java Guys,
We know how to communicate applet and servelt. But i have no idea on how to communicate JSP to applet. If anybody have any idea please let me know. Thanks in advance..
    with cheers
    Basha

    HI,
When u use applet-servlet communication, servlet (which u've written in out.println()) writes the content in the streams,it get backs to the urlconnection.getOUtputStream(),u get only what written in out.println().
when u using applet-jsp communication, servletengine converts jsp-servlet,servlet writes the total content (which present in jsp page) in the streams.u get all the content including ur html tags.

  • Get dynamic values in Jsp fom Applet

    Hi,
Mine is not a unique question, its been asked many times on the same forum but still I havent got any satisfactory answer so I am putting this again.
I have one applet, it is been loaded from jsp. Applet uses double buffering and its values are changing constantly.
Now my question arises here, In my jsp i have one button on the click of that button I am calling some other jsp passing some of jsp values in URL. I also want to pass one of the value of applet to jsp so it can pass to next jsp or to do something that next jsp automatically gets the new value.
I thought for Applet-servlet communication but my concerns are,as my applet is being refreshed continuously(around every 1 sec) and the value which i have to pass is changing every second and I dont know when user will click on the button of jsp so to pass that value of applet i have to do applet-servlet communication every second and that does not suit me as it consumes lot of time.
Can you suggest me any other solution so I can send value through jsp whenever button is clicked.
    Thanks
    Taral Shah

    HI Senthil Babu
    Thanks for your reply.
But applet is very important for my application as i am showing some graphical representation on it. So I have to use applet. Now you told that i have to make temporary files on client's macvhine. You mean to say each time I have to store that value on client's pc through File I/O.
Is that? but that is also problematic 'cause it consimes much time and my application deals in milli seconds.
Pl. guide me considering that time is much important for my application so solution should not consume much time.
    Thanks again,
    Taral Shah

  • How do I expand my simple JSP page to implement Connection Pooling?

    Hi everyone,
I have a small SQL database which contains information about Students and a StudenBean which contains their attributes and appropriate get/set methods (which I haven't needed to use yet).
I want to write a simple JSP page which displays all the students details in one big table. I can do this using the basic prototyping method of adding the dataSource and driver details to the deployment descriptor (web.xml - I'm using the latest version of Tomcat by the way) and then accessing the database using JSP standard SQL actions.
Here's a snipet of what I've done (just an example, the final code works):
    <sql:query var="temp"
sql="SELECT * FROM Employee ORDER BY UserName"
    />
    <c:forEach items="${temp.rows}" var="row">
    <td><c:out value ="${row.UserName}"/></td>
    <td><c:out value ="${row.FirstName}"/></td>
    <td><c:out value ="${row.LastName}"/></td>
Now I want to upgrade! I want to access the dataSource using Connection Pooling and it's causing me a lot of trouble. I already have the required working classes/data such as ConnectionPool.java, ResourceManagerListener.java, the MySQL driver etc.
However, I don't know what the best way to setup the connection for my purposes would be and where I should do it.
Do I need to write a servlet or tag handler/custom action to establish the connection and access my bean through it? I would like to keep a similar sort of business logic as I already have developed i.e. be able to use actions in my JSP page to cycle through the database and print out each detail from the row.
Rather confused and muddled. Thanks for any input!

    Good idea.
Set up a JNDI data source for your app, according to these docs:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
You'll have to put the right information into your web.xml and a context.xml. Once you've done that, your JSTL JSPs will simply use the connection resource automagically.

  • How do you invoke a simple jsp

    hi,
i have a very simple jsp that displays the current time. it works on my tomcat server (installed on my computer). i purchased a domain from yahoo, say, www.beginer.com and uploaded the jsp file to the yahoo server. but when i referenced it with the url www.beginer.com/MyJSP.jsp, a download dialog popped up.
so, how do you get the browser to display the dynamic contents of the jsp file?
    thanks.

Did you ask Yahoo whether their server supports servlets and JSPs? Or did you just assume that? I would expect that it doesn't.

First error is becoz you are using word package which is a standard identifier. So you have to change ur folder name to smething else other than package.
Second error is becoz of the first error. If the forst error is fixed second error will not occur.
    Thanks

  • Help regarding a simple JSP file and servlet file

    Hi all,
I am trying to develop a web based application using Tomca 5.0.16.I wanted to get to know how a simple jsp page could access a servlet. It would be really very beneficial if if any one can give me a sample code that does the interactions,I could run it and understand it,would help me for further development.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    AS

I think it depends on how you want to access the servlet.
You can forward or redirect from the JSP page to the servlet, thus making it like you went to the servlet directly from the browser (except of course, before the forward or redirect, some stuff can be done).
You can use URLConnection objects to call the servlet, much like the browser does.
It depends on what you are trying to do.

Refer above code. By using getParameter() method of Applet, u can take values inside applet.

I am giving an explanation where I want this:
We have an application, where user will be given a specific machine(with one MAC) and have to login from there only. If he tries to login from different machine with same user id, we should throw an error message. That's concept. We know that this reduces/kills operatability of the user from different machines.
But we shouldn't allow the user operating from diffrent machines. What happens if the admins NIC burns? And he gets a news one? He can't log in until you manually change his

It has to be hardcoded into the exe (guess what the kid's next question will be?).

  • Signed applet communication on Mac

In Denmark homebanking is goin on the net with NetBank. My bank postulates that Mac users cannot participate, as signed applet communication is not supported on Macs.
I find it hard to believe an suspect that ActiveX components are the crook here.
Can anybody confirm my suspicion. Or clear my Bank :-)
    I am Macin' 9.0.4ie - MRJ 2.2.5 . Explorer 5.0 or Netscape 6.0

The bank probably says that because it doesn't have any Macs to test it on. Signed applets do work on Macs. However, not all of JRE 1.1 may be implemented in NS 4 or IE 5.0.
I think providing applet only access to Netbanking is a really dumb idea. Fortunately, my bank has not gone the applet route and I can use netbanking services just fine on my Mac with 128 bit encryption.
If I were you, I would just switch to a bank that is more Mac friendly...

  • Deployment of simple JSP to Oracle Servlet Engine

    Hi
Anyone there tried to deploy a simple JSP running against OSE.
Please advice where can I get more information for this.
    Thanks

Yes I have tried it with simple examples like data access and calling EJB. In-session EJB calls do not work but if your JSP is deployed in another Oracle JVM like 9iAS then EJB calls work.
There are two manuals you can refer:
    JSP Developers guide at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/java.817/a83720/toc.htm
    AND
Java Tools reference guide at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/java.817/a83727/toc.htm
