Simple math and a variable in an mc instance name

i have several movie clips with instance names in the format
of screened1, screened2, screened3, and so on. i am trying to
reference a movie clip as shown below, but it's not working. what
am i doing wrong? how do i fix it?
this.screened[numOfItems-8].transform.matrix = F1toP0;
the transform, matrix and all of that works fine. but when i
add the information between [ ] to make reference to the movie clip
instance name, no go. numOfItems is a number, and when run trace on
it.... it does return a value in the output.

anyway, your document class variables are defined on the main timeline so to reference them from any timeline you can use:
MovieClip(root).w36; // for example (but it's really undesirable to have coding in more than one timeline)

Datasocket and Shared Variables

I am curious if there is any advantage to using Datasocket to read/write shared variables (as opposed to a direct read/write). I'm specifically talking networked shared variables here.
Is there any speed advantage to accessing shared variables thru the Datasocket functions? Since both a direct read/write and a Datasocket PSP read/write talk to the same variable engine I assume they are equally efficient but I'm looking for confirmation here. I've seen benchmarks for shared variable performance but none of them use DS/PSP to access the variables.
Normally I would not even think of using Datasocket to access shared var's but where I currently work we have a large app that does this and it works great. I suspect that this functionality only exists in LV8.x for backward compatibility and non-Windows OS compatibility and is not really meant to be used for new, Windows-based apps? Am I off base on this?

Thank you for the reply with clarification.
Based on your comment, I changed the buffer parameters and also tried the programs with two different data types, previously StringArray and now String.
In the attached LV8.6 project, you have all the programs, and shared variable library to review my tests.
There are two sets of two files - each set has a Write Shared Variable and Read Shared Variable file. One set is for StringArray type Shared Variable (named StrArr in the library), and the other set is for String type Shared Variable (named Str in the library).
String Array example:
MultipleDS-Write-SharedV-StrArr.vi / MultipleDS-Read-SharedV-StrArr.vi
In my String Array shared variable, I use only 4 element array, each having 4 character strings - meaning 16 bytes per String Array data. I have two loops in the write file, writing to the same variable, an array of 4 strings, each loop continues until the loop index is >0. This means, sometimes, depending on the processor speed, the variable will be written 3 times or 4 times (the variable could have a new value before the loop condition is checked).
So this means, if I have buffer of 100 bytes (16*4=64<100), it's enough for 4 such arrays (of 4 elements, each element with 4 characters) could be buffered to have sufficient time at the client (Read) program to read them.
I am putting 2048 bytes in buffer, which is much more than sufficient in my case.
The writer loops run with 200 ms to wait for each iteration. The reader loop runs with 100 ms in DS timeout and 100 ms in wait timer. This gives results without any loss. However, if I run the reader loop with 1000 ms to wait for each iteration, the data is lost. The buffer is not maintained for 2048 bytes.
In the read program, just to make sure if all data is read or not, I am showing data in two different string indicators, showing data of each loop.
String example:
MultipleDS-Write-SharedV-Str.vi / MultipleDS-Read-SharedV-Str.vi
The String Array shared variable didn't show values in the Distributed System Manager. Hence, I created another simple variable with String datatype.
The writer program writes strings of 4 characters, one-by-one, in two loops. Meaning, total 8 strings of 4 characters each are written in the "Str" Shared variable.
The reader program, however, doesn't always display all the 8 strings. Although the wait timer is not high (slow) it still misses some data usually. Data is overwritten even before the buffer is filled (in buffer, I have defined 50 strings with 4 elements in each).
In both of the Read programs, I read using datasocket. I think thought datasocket has more ability to buffer. Earlier I had "BufferedRead" in DataSocket, which I have changed to just Read, because BufferedRead didn't give any special buffer advantage in the Shared Variable reading.
---- This is an update on the issue.
Ok, just while typing the last paragraph above, regarding datasocket, something clicked in my mind, and I changed the DataSocket functions to simple Shared variables (completely eliminating datasocket functions) in the read programs as well. And bingo, the buffer works as expected, even if I have reading loops very very slow, there is no data loss in any of the program sets.
The two changed Read programs are also included in the attached project - MultipleSV-Read-SharedV-Str.vi and MultipleSV-Read-SharedV-StrArr.vi
So this means, I can completely eliminate DataSockets (not even using PSP URLs in DataSocket Open/Read functions) from my programs.
One question here, what will be an advantage of this (or any side effects that I should be keeping in mind)?

2) Queries with complex calculations.

Creating a form with a field that contains a simple math problem.

I am creating a form in Acrobat 9 Standard that contains a field that requires a simple math function (divide).
if (QuantityRow1 > 0)
ExtensionRow1 / QuantityRow1
Take the value input in ExtensionRow1 and divide it by the value in QuantityRow1. I have included an IF statement to prevent an error that occur if QuantityRow1 were equal to zero.
After inputting the data into the two fields I tab past the field where I expect to see my result and the field remains blank. I don't receive any error messages.

Math and databases - how?

I have a project which will need to access database info and do some simple math functions. The only code I know is HTML and CSS, so I don't even know what I need to learn.
I need to pull pricing data from a database when the visitor selects from a form or Spry menu. For example, if they select Connecticut and utility company XYZ, it will give them competive electricity rates in their area.
Also I want to set up some simple math functions (visitor inputs their electricity usage and rate and site tells them how much they could save).
I would appreciate anyone could tell me what I will need to learn to accomplish these tasks and if Dreamweaver has any useful tools for creating it. Thanks!

1. Let's start with the basics. Go to your client and ask them what database they have so you know what you will be working with. If they have not made up their mind, then the first step is investigating the options of mySQL, MS SQL, etc. Then based on the server language available you can run a simple query to pull out data.
2. This sounds like a combination of pulling data from a database using a server-side function and then using Javascript to process the math equation on the fly with the data you pulled.
So you will need to learn a database, a server-side language to get information out of the database and javascript to process the information in real-time.

Define and change variables without redeploy

Hello there,
what i want to accomplish (and have tried in vain so far) is to define a variable 'jndi_url' for my web application and change the value for that variable without redeploying the application or restarting the weblogic server.
When i set the variable for example in the web.xml everything works, but to change the value i would have to redeploy the application. :-(
Then i experimented with a deployment plan, but that seems to configure only a predefined set of variables, like the session timeout, etc.
I thought this should be a simple task and i hope somebody can help me out.

I do use an 10 years old low-end sql / plsql-tool where I can simple and fast do sql-things like that:

I would like to use oracles SQL-Developer instead of this 'old' tool,
and want to use my 'old' sql / plsql scripts
but the SQL-Developer in this matter seems is to much complicate to use,
I can do complex and big things with sql-dev,
but not simple using bind-variables ;-)( .

Shared and Global Variable Issue with Motor VI

Hello,
I have written a VI that will command a stepper motor to follow the desired profile and loop the profile until the user pushes the stop button. I modified the state machine example from LV to achieve this. I now want to connect a linear potentiometer to the linear actuator to verify that the distance I commanded the motor to travel is the actual distance that it traveled. I am using a NI 9219 module to collect the data from the potentiometer.
When I added the potentiometer to the program, the cRIO-9073 chassis that I am using immediately crashes and looses connection with the computer when I click the Run VI button. I looked into this a little more and it seems that the chassis will crash only when I add shared and global variables to the VI. I think it has something to do with the Network Variable Engine; I don’t have it installed on the chassis because the motor program alone will not run if it is installed on the chassis. Also, I have the chassis configured to the RT setting and not the FPGA setting.
I have attached a snippet of the code. I am using LV 2014 SP1 along with the SoftMotion module. The motor is connected to LV through a P70530 stepper drive which is connected to a NI 9512 module with the proper connectivity bundle. Is there something wrong with the VI that would cause the chassis to crash? Why will the simple motor VI not work when the Network Variable Engine is installed on the chassis? Sometimes when I try to connect the project to the chassis I get the following error: "Failed to load shared library taggerrt.out. Ensure that the library is present on the RT target. Use either MAX to install NI software or FTP to transfer custom librarier to the RT target."
I have tried re-installing the NI Device Drivers and reconfiguring the software on the cRIO chassis using MAX; however, the error keeps showing up. I read somewhere that the taggerrt.out library is a part of the Network Variable Engine but I don't know why it wouldn't be found when the NVE software is installed on the chassis. This message only comes up when I also have the SoftMotion Module software installed on the chassis. Has anybody else encountered this problem or know why this could be happening? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac work with OSX Server?

I wonder if I should install OSX Server on an iMac wher several users work on the same files and folders.
My question - before I do something I might regret:
Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac within several users really work with the help of OSX Server?
All I want to be able to do:
Admin creates a new folder1 and gives it read- and write access for user1 and user2.
User1 creates a subfolder1 in folder1, and a document1 in subfolder1.
User2 edits document1. Later Admin edits document1.
All these simple editing of files and folders (and subfolders) within a main folder should be possible. This is not possible now.
Is everything clear? I'm not a network specialist or something, I just want to give some co-workers access to some data on my computer without problems.

So what you need are recursive permissions.
I suggest you create a group and add user1 and user2 to that group. You can name that group whatever you want, but for now i will call it FSUsers
Execute this in terminal. Replace FSUsers with your new group
sudo chmod -R +a "FSUsers allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextat tr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/*
Replace /Users/Shared with the location of your shared folder. Make sure you keep the /* at the end (this allows all subfolders and files to get the same permissions.
If you need to add people to the share just add them to the FSUsers group, the FSUsers group should should also be allowed in the sharing preferences.

Trying to pass and object variable to a method

I have yet another question. I'm trying to display my output in succession using a next button. The button works and I get what I want using test results, however what I really want to do is pass it a variable instead of using a set number.
I want to be able to pass the object variables myProduct, myOfficeSupplies, and maxNumber to method actionPerformed so they can be in-turn passed to the displayResults method which is called in the actionPerformed method. Since there is no direct call to actionPerformed because it is called within one of the built in methods, I can't tell it to receive and pass those variables. Is there a way to do it without having to pass them through the built-in methods?

Use of Return and Notify_url variables offered by PayPal

I have been integrating PayPal into my application (ASP NET MVC) where I made some analysis about PayPal (went through their documentation about the integration). Created a PayPal sandbox account and can transfer the amount.What I want to know is about the `return` and `notify_url` variables. I have enabled `auto return` in my account and also enabled `PDT`. My form variable is like this:<input type="hidden" name="notify_url" value="http://localhost:xxx/xx/Notify">
<input type="hidden" name="return" value="http://localhost:xx/xx/Return">As I have surfed in net, what they state about `Return` and `notify_url` is:> The "return" URL to which PayPal redirects buyers’ browser after they complete their payments. For example, specify a URL on your site that displays a “Thank you for your payment” page. Default is nothing is specified – PayPal redirects the browser to a PayPal webpage. Note, you must have "Auto Return" enabled in your Account Profile settings in order for this variable to work.

Yes, it's not present in the code I have posted but I have tried this as well.
It didn't work, as expected, because soap/axis is on top of http and not https and because my proxy uses http as well (or at least that's what I have learned so far).
In fact, I have tried all combinations between http.\*, https.\*, and Authenticator without success.
I think the problem is more soap/axis related. The solution for axis2 seems somewhat 'trivial' (and well explained over the web) while it's not for axis1.

Open module for managing property file and environment variables

Looking for an open module for managing property files and environment variables (like CLASSPATH) set in a shell script. For handeling properties (preserving comments, supporting includes, appending new entries, and more) I have looked at SuperProperties from openadaptor but find certain functionality lacking. As for interfacing with common shell scripts/files containing setting for CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME, other system/application variables another type of object editor is needed. Maybe JFIG?
Any ideas are greatly welcomed.

You seem wright, you hit a brick wall here with Air to find the location
of the command console on windows...
So in fact I never build an exe tool, but this little problem was a nice
case to test it and I tried it.:
I downloaded monodevelop

-MonoDevelop 2.4.2*
from http://monodevelop.com/Download
created a console project and had an exe in 5 minutes !

Report in new page does not know of session and presentation variables

I have a question about GOURL.
I am using GOURL as a column function in one report (report A), so that when i click on that column it takes me to another report(report B) that open in new popup window.
the first report (A) also uses some session and presentation variables, which is also used by Report B as filters. I am curious that if I add these filters which are using variables to report B, why can't report B get the value of these, (it just errors out ) because it didn't found any value to those variables in the filter.
Becuase I am ending up with passing all these variables in GOURL and setting them as 'isprompted'.
Does this report (B) knows nothing else than what it finds in GOURL?

In a nutshell, if u use gourl then its parameters will be only using in navigated report. This is functionality
