SimpleSave portable backup drive--doesn't start automatically

I have the SimpleSave portable drive (Model sd320a)  and have used it successfully.  However, although when I first starting using it the drive automatically started when I plugged it into my computer, it no longer does.  I must have changed some setting on my computer, but I can't figure out what I did.  I now cannot get the device to start.  I followed the instructions in the user manual (to start it through Vista Computer and clicking on the icon), but four file folders just come up and nothing I click on will start the application.
I use a Dell laptop with Vista Premium.  Can you tell me how to fix this problem so the drive starts automatically again?  Thanks.

I deleted some files off my backup drive [Simple Save] and now I find I have nothing on the drive at all. How do I replenish it to when I bought it a few weeks ago? Lanc

    You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)

  • T530 Dolby Sound Driver doesn't start

    Hi
    Everytime I start Windows on my T530 I get an error message from Dolby Advanced Audio that the Dolby sound driver can't be startet and that I have to restart the computer or reinstall the driver.
    I reinstalled and restarted several times but it still doesn't work.
    Before this problem I had another error message that the hardware and the driver didn't correspond so I downloaded the driver for the T530 from Leonvos homepage. But the new driver doesn't start.
    What do I do?
    Regards, Rasmus

    I tried to reinstall the old driver that came with the system but now I get the error message (same as before I updated to the new driver):
    The existing Dolby audio driver version is 7.2.8000.17 and the software application expects the driver version 7.2.7000.7. Install a valid combination of driver and software application.
    I'd be thankfull if someone can help me out here.
    Kind regards

  • Db instance doesn't start automatically

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a db instance that doesn't start automatically when the system restarts. I have searched in the forum, and I have found similar questions, but their answers don't fix my problem.
    I have Windows Server 2003 and Oracle10g. More information:
    Services:
    OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener service is started (and its startup type is automatic)
    OracleServiceLAB service is started (and its startup type is automatic)
    Registries in Windows:
    ORA_LAB_AUTOSTART=true
    ORA_LAB_SHUTDOWN=true
    ORACLE_SID=LAB
    System variable:
    oracle_sid=LAB
    When the system restarts, the services are started but the instance is down I get "ORA-01034: oracle not available". In the oradim.log file I see this error: ORA-12560: TNS protocol adapter error occurred.
    I suppose that it can be a problem with the connection service name, but I don't know which one and why, because I have defined the oracle_sid system variable (it's true that without it the problem was the same).
    Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Arantza

    ok , it seems there are some notes on metalink about diagnosing this error.
    ORA-01034: oracle not available".
    see below:
    Oracle indicates the following possible causes:
    The SGA requires more space than was allocated for it. Can you check how much SGA you have and memory
    The operating system variable pointing to the instance is improperly defined.
    And ORACLE recommends the following remedial action: Refer to accompanying messages for possible causes and correct the problem mentioned in the other messages. Retry after ORACLE has been initialised. If ORACLE has been initialised, verify that ORACLE was linked correctly. Also, refer to the installation or user's guide for additional information about this error.
    After exhausting all other options, a simple reboot has been observed to resolve this error.

    i have a :
    500GB Toshiba Automatic Backup Portable Hard Drive
    when i plug it in, the blue light pops up and it doesnt sound like theres no problem but it just doesnt pop up in my computers.... so i right click computers and go to manage>Disk management, and i found it so if i assign somehow doesnt have a drive path i guess? so i assign it one and it works now, it's in my computers, i can put files and it'll save it. but everytime i go to a new pc, i have to go to the entire process of assigning it a drive over and over to have it available in my computer. is there an actual fix to this?

    Im having the same issue - the drive was operational until it became unreadable.

  • Creating a portable backup drive that's encrypted

    I've been considering an off-site backup solution like Carbonite to protect my files, particularly now almost all of my photos etc are digital and on my mac. I use Time Machine to an external desktop drive for day to day backups, but want to protect against loss from theft or fire.
    I'm not keen on paying annually for something like Carbonite, and instead have been thinking of a small pocket-size portable hard drive that I can take with me regularly if I'm away from home. However, I'm also conscious of losing the hard drive and not wanting anyone finding it to have access to the files on there. Is there an easy way, without buying any new software, of making a portable external hard drive encrypted, so that I can regularly backup files to it, but if it gets lost, others can't access the files on there?
    Cheers

    Use Disk Utility to create an encrypted sparse bundle disk image. Store the .sparsebundle file on your external drive. Mount the disk image by double clicking it. Copy your data to the mounted virtual drive. Eject the virtual drive when done. You can also store the disk image password in your keychain so that you do not need to re-enter it when you mount the image on your own Mac.
    If your drive is lost, the contents will only be retrievable be somebody who knows the disk image password.

  • When Starting OC4J, why the report server doesn't start automatically? !!

    Dear All,
    I have DS 10g on my system and I start the OC4J when I have to run either forms or reports.
    But when I attend to start the do the following command from the form:
    WEB.SHOWDOCUMENT(..../getjobid<jobid>?server=<servername>...), I have an error: FRM-41213: Unable to connect to the report server <servername>.
    I noticed that if I run the following URL:http://<server>:.../reports/rwservlet, it gives me a list of command, but the server still not running..But if I add any command to the above URL like for example "getserverinfo" or "showjobs" then the server is started. Now, and after the command, if we return back and we run the report from the form, the report will run successfully.
    The question WHY??

  • Why RAC services doesn't start automatically?

    Hi All,
    I have 2-node 10gR2 RAC installed on RHEL4. Whenever i restart the server, the services related to RAC are not starting automatically except VIP related services. Manually i have to start the services using crs_stop and crs_start commands. then, everything will be fine and working. There was no problems or error occurred while installation.
    Whenever i restart my node VIP addresses which are in DNS takes about 10-15 mins to resolve, means to show up in ifconfig -a output. Is this related to service not starting automatically?
    Can anybody tell me what might be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    when a failure occurs, the cluster will put things back to the state they were in at the time of failure. So if your database is running and the node crashes or is rebooted, then the services should start because the target state is ONLINE. If you do a srvctl stop database, then this is a assumed a planned shutdown so we stop the database and the services (dependent resource as Erik says). If after you have successfully stopped the database, the target state of the service is OFFLINE. If you reboot at this point, then the database and service should not start.
    All databases should work the same if they were created the same. There is not enough information in your post to know why they did not start. If it continues to be a problem, contact Oracle Support and they can help figure out the differences.

  • External backup drive doesn't show in System Preferences/Startup Disk

    Using SuperDuper!, I thought I created a bootable backup on my LaCie FW 200GB ext. HD. I opened System Preferences/Startup Disk to try booting from the LaCie by changing the Startup Disk to the LaCie. The LaCie didn't appear, there. My Mac HD is there, and a Network Startup icon with a question mark in it, is there. I'm on a standalone machine. My Ethernet port is used for a cable modem.
    I Restarted and held down the Option key to see if the LaCie would show up that way. No luck. The LaCie is mounted on my desktop, and the System Profiler shows it on the FW bus. So, I don't really have a bootable backup drive (or volume). The LaCie is not partitioned, nor is my internal startup disk.
    I did use Disk Utility & found I had to repair the LaCie. Initially, DU said the disk couldn't be repaired, but on a repeat, the LaCie shows as repaired.
    How can I get the LaCie to show up in System Preferences/Startup Disk?

    Select the external drive's icon and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the pane labeled "Ownership and Permissions click on the small triangle gadget beside the word Details. You should see at the bottom a box labeled "Ignore permissions on this volume." If there's a checkmark in the box uncheck it. Close the Get Info window. Now see if the drive appears in the Startup Disk preference.
    If you still have a problem then you might try the following:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
    Next clone your system to the external drive:
    How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Set Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only.
    2. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    3. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
    4. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    5. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    6. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    7. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    8. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.

  • Rman backup jobs does not start automatically

    I have the next question:
    When I run such script in RMan:
    RUN
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE sbt;
    SEND 'OB_MEDIA_FAMILY mf_rman';
    BACKUP archivelog all;
    It creates job on OSB server:
    ob> lsj
    Job ID Sched time Contents State
    oracle10/6 none database cbs3 (dbid=2397799862) processed; Oracle job(s) scheduled
    oracle10/6.1 none archivelog backup retryable at 2010/10/01.23:05 ("lsjob --log oracle10/6.1" for details)
    But it doesn't statrt immediatelly at the same time, so I has to run the job manually:
    ob> runj -n oracle10/6.1 -d Drive2
    ob> lsj
    Job ID Sched time Contents State

    oracle10/6.1 none archivelog backup running since 2010/10/01.17:10
    How to make Rman start backup job at once?
    Edited by: OraSun on 01.10.2010 4:44

    If you have created a database storage selector, you don't need to include media manager parameters in the RMAN script. You would include media manager parameters in script, if you want to override the database storage selector settings. For example, in the database storage selector you have indicated that the media family is mf_rman...OSB will automatically use that media family based on database storage selector settings. Per the RMAN script, you want this backup operation to use mf_rman...since database storage selector already defines this, you don't need to include it in the RMAN script. If your database storage selector defines use of mf_rman media family but you want a particular backup to use "foo" media family, then you would include that parameter in your script so it would override the database storage selector.

  • Backup drive doesn't unmount

    Hi,
    Everytime Time Machine does a back up it seems to work fine, but the disk doesn't get ejected. Then they all start to accumulate in the finder window side bars. (They don't appear on the Desktop). See this for example:
    http://www.dawg.ca/files/timemachine.png
    Any ideas what's up?
    Thanks.

    Hi, never saw anything like it! Drag all those backups off your sidebar and "Poof!" them.
    Then go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then, restart.
    (You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
