Single Image, Transition Between Two Pictures

Hello all,
I have searched all over the internet, but apparently I don't know how to ask what I want.
I want a single image, made from 2 separate pictures I have, but I'm not trying to seamlessly integrate part of one into the other. Let's call them "A" and "B"
What I'm wanting is a single frame where:
A ----> B
Where the "----->" is a place where the colors from the right edge of "A" gradually change into the colors for the left edge of "B" either (preferably) streaking lines or blurry gradients.
I'm sure there is a tutorial, but whenever I type "transition" I get movie effects, when I type in "gradients" I can only get colors and when type "combine" I get things like "Bunny with Bat's Mouth".

PS - If this is better done in Illustrator, that is an option as well.

Okay, on the top layer add a layer mask. Now, after checking that the mask thumbnail is selected, use the gradient tool to "paint" a black gradient on the mask. See image:

Basic transition between two pictures (MCs)

I'm trying to implement a typical gallery fade transition
between two pictures when a thumbnail is clicked, but the tweens
aren't showing. The individual pic information is loaded from an
XML file, not the library. The correct picture is displayed, but it
just flickers as if I was doing a straight assignment and the
tweens weren't even there.
I've got one MC on the top layer to hold the old image, and
one on the bottom layer to load the new image. When it's loaded I
want to fade out the top and fade in the bottom. At one point while
playing around I did get one of the tweens to work but at the wrong
time, so is this a timing issue?
A nudge in the right direction would be appreciated!

Not really, it was more for organizational purposes when I
was starting out. At this point it's all down in just one layer.
As I understand it, the screen does not update during the
event, only after. Which would explain why things aren't doing what
I expect. But if that's the case, where should the transitions be
implemented? Every example I've found so far has all the images
added to the library at design time, or does a workaround like
having the image slide in and out of the screen so you don't need a
transition.
I tried putting the tweens in the photoLoader complete event
and that didn't work either.

There are bluray menu limitations; they don't come up often, and I do not understand some of them. For example, there is a limit in Encore of 32 buttons per menu. (That does not appear to be a problem for you.) There is a limit to the size of all interactive graphics in each title (which includes a menu as a title). I don't understand that one.
I would do a test project, starting over, and building a less complex project that still has the essential features.
I have found Total Media Theater 5 to perform very much like a bluray player. But, yes, ultimately you've got to burn to a disk and test it on a bluray player.

Can I have a movie as a transition between two submenus? (iDVD)

I was wondering if it's possible to have a movie file as a transition between two menus on iDVD? All I can see is the preset ones (dissolve, droplet, fade through black etc.). What I'd like is to use a very short QT file with a few quick sweeping shots of the content that is going to be showcased on the next menu. I've seen it in quite a few Hollywood film DVDs and wondered if it was possible to do on simple ole' iDVD. Apologies if this question has already been asked. This is my first post so new to this forum lark- I did do a search though but nothing relevant came up...
Any help would be much appreciated.

Although that's an idea, I still don't think there's any physical way to have a movie end and redirect to any menu except the original one on which it was clicked. In other words, playing a movie on an iDVD-made DVD is always a dead end and will come up with the same menu when it ends. I probably need to learn DVD studio pro I'm sure I'd be able to produce more polished stuff too.

I am trying to put a transition between two clips and it's not going.

I am working in FInal Cut Pro X and until now have had no problem putting trasitions into my timeline. Now I'm trying to put it between two video clips and it's not even moving there. Is there something I might have turned off that's not allowing me to do this

That's the end of the media. No handles for an overlap. You can still do a full overlap transition, but it will shorten the project and shift the content.

I have to clips of video both around 5 secs each. They were both .mov files but when I try to add a transition between them it doesn't work.

Transition between two different sizes of the same image

Im currently working on a project where I have a 92x92 pixel image that needs to tween into a 711x300 pixel image. The images are the same but cropped to these sizes via photoshop, imported into flash, then converted to graphic symbols. I want to have the 92x92 image tween into the 711x300 image.
I say tween, but the two tweens aren't working correctly, so I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. I can't seem to find a "crop" like function in flash that will let me adjust the large image for when its supposed to be small, then have it tween between the two sizes as i need them to.
I cant seem to figure it out and I need some help. Any suggestions?

Right, thats what I have discovered through my troubleshooting. The thing is, the aspect ratios are different for what I need and I cant seem to find how to readjust the aspect ratio to fit the design sceme that's been chosen. I initially did just resize the larger one, but since the ratio stayed panoramic, my designs weren't quite working out.
I need to change the aspect ratio of the larger image withough disrupting how the image looks (squish/stretch). When I would chose my symbol and hit cmd+B till I'd get the speckled selection around the symbol, then apply a shape tween between the two symbols. The smaller symbol would expand to the size i needed as the tween progressed, but would tile the image within the enlarging cell. Then the tween would end, and my larger picture would appear. This isn't gonna work, either.
Still, need some advise.

Sharing a single itunes library between two computers - must be possible!

This is probably a commonly asked question, but I cannot find a step by step guide to doing it (if indeed it is possible).
I have got a copy of itunes running on my media computer/server in my living room. What I want is to connect my laptop over the network and share this library - the effect being that it is like I am using the original computer.
In essence I want to be able to add muscic, edit tracks, update my ipod from either computer and the changes be made in respect of both computers. I suspect that this is done by making sure that the laptop uses the same database information as that created by my main computer but am not really sure where to start.
Could anyone perhaps give me a step by step guide as to how to do this - a single database that can be used by two computers each running itunes. One thing I am pretty sure is not possible is to for two people to be using itunes at the same time, so I would ahve to avoid this.

Ah. Sorry about that, I guess I skimmed over the add music part. Correct, in that the home sharing wouldn't allow you to add music to the media server library. The only thing that I can think of that would give you what you want is to use a shared folder on the network and then map both of the iTunes to that folder. At least that way music would go into the same folder. The only question is about the library on the other computer, if it would get updated when you use the other to add music.

Sync single iPhoto library between two computers

My wife and I have different computers and, therefore, separate iPhoto libraries. I know I can use Iphoto Library Manager to consolidate the two libraries, but is there a way anyone can think of where the two of us can each have a full copy of the library, and have all modifications to the "common" library AUTOMATICALLY sync? I know we could share the library and manually copy the photos from one to the other library, but this would be tedious and completely defeat the purpose of Apple's "It just works" mind-set.
Or am I asking too much?
What if there were a way to flag photos in the common library as "Mine" and not "Ours"? That way my wife wouldn't have to "suffer" through my Sci-Fi wallpaper collection and Dr. Who posters. Likewise I would not need to see the photos for school assignments, etc... that she needs available, but we still both have common I/O access to the "common" family photos?

No there's no way to automatically sync two Libraries, and trying to do so will trash one or both of them because no syncing software can parse the iPhoto Library database.
Yes you could have a common Library and keep each other's content separate. Simply keyword the pics 'His' and 'Hers' and use a simple Smart Album to separate them out. You can even - based on those tags - make two master Events - one for her pics and one for his.

Transition between two HR master records

We are using CATS and have some 1000 users reporting time, so the HR personnel number is also updated in financial line items.
Now due to a new HR solution we will need to assign all people with a new HR personnel numbers.
My question is how we can keep time reporting history? If person A had a number 111 and he will get a new number 222, how this 222 can be linked back to 111?
Also if we run CATS_DA report for 222 will we get a data for 111? I guess not, but what can be the solution?

Hi,
As far as I know there is no standard way of linking one personnel number to another for CATS entry.
You can do the reporting outside of the CATS as suggested by using CP object.
Or, if you're assigning each employee a unique SAP user name, you can link both personels using the SAP user name given to them (as SAP user name would not change although personnel number will change)
In anyway, you will need some kind of programming/querying without using standard CATS t-codes.

Can you add transitions in iMovie11 between two freeze frames?

I am trying to add a transition between two freeze frames but when I do, my entire movie goes black and appears to freeze. My freeze frames are over 30 seconds long so timing shouldn't be an issue. Any suggestions?

As I show you in my book, you select several clips on your timeline at once and right-click, you will find the option to Add Default Transition to all.
You can set your Default Transition by right-clicking a transition in the Transitions panel.

How do i include the text in the transitions between pictures?

this is my first time to ever use premiere elements and i've blindly stumbled around. i'm making a glorified slide show it seems. i have captions or text on every one of the pictures in my video but when i add transitions between the pictures i can't seem to get them to change with the picture. it just stays there until the transition is done and the next picture comes up? how can i get the text to do the same thing as what the picture is doing? help!!

OK, let's see if this is what you have now: you have the stills on Video Track 1, and these butt up to each other. You have added various Transitions between them. You have done your caption Titles and they are on Video Track 2 (or another above the stills). To get those Titles to also transition, you will want add a Transition to them too, or you just have a butt-cut. The reason that I asked about the Transitions used was that if you had, say Dip-to-Black, or Cross-Dissolves for the stills, the Cross-Dissolves would be fine for the Titles. If you have used other Transitions, you will most likely want to use something that is close to the Transitions on the stills, or will want to shorten the Titles a bit, use a Dissolve on them, to keep them out of the way with the other Transitions. It will depend on which ones you have used.
Personally, I seldom use many different Transitions, so it's not an issue, but with some, I would definitely do the Dissolve before they started, and then Dissolve into my new Title, once they have completed.

Sharing iPhoto Library between Two User Accounts

Is there any way to fully share a single iPhoto library between two user accounts on one machine (iMac 2.0GHz dual core Intel, 10.5.1, iPhoto '08), without using an external drive (because I don't have one)? By share, I mean each user has full rights and priveledges to the entire library, regardless of who uploaded the pics. Holding down the option key on iPhoto startup does not work because my wife can't access the pics I loaded even though she's pointing to the shared library in a shared folder.

If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. *You could also use a dmg*.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone. But that's unlikely to work on 10.5 because of the way that the permissions have changed with the new OS.)
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

Transitions between split clips don't work properly

If I split a clip in the project area, then put a transition between the two new clips, the transition doesn't work properly. It is most obvious with the Cross Dissolve, which doesn't work at all. Some of the others sort of look like they are working, but if you look closely, they are not working correctly- i.e. not in the same way that transitions between two clips dragged separately to the project area from the events area work.
Any one else notice this, or better yet, have a fix?

OK- I discovered a work-around.
In the project area if you select the split part following the transition, Cut it (Command x) then Paste it (Command v) back in the proper place, the transition works properly. Usually cutting and pasting the following half of a split clip fixes the transition, but sometimes I have to cut and paste both the part before the transition and the part after it to get things to work right.

Transition Between iMoive and FCPX

Hi, I was a iMovie user and recently I started to use FCPX. However, I am facing a big problem on transition in FCPX. I don't know why, when I put the transition between two videos, it doesn't go smooth as in iMoive; I mean it feels like in FCPX the transition "eat" up the video, its like I can hear two videos audio within the transition. It doesn't happen to me when I use the transition in iMovie. I'm lost!! Please help!!! Thank you.

In FCPX, if you click on the transition in the storyline to select it, and check the inspector, the bottom section is Audio Crossfade. You can design the respective fades (both default to S-curve, but your other options are Linear, +3dB and -3dB.)
Another thing you can do is manually edit the audio outside the transition. Here's how:
double click on the audio part of the clip in the storyline for both incoming and outgoing clips -- that should "Expand Audio/Video". Apply your transition to the video (audio will not be involved). [If your transitions are already in place, just double click on the audio tracks just outside the bounds of the transition; the audio will expand out of the transition.] You can use the audio level controls (a.k.a. Audio Animation) on the edges of the audio (small circle at the 0dB line - drag them to set a length; right click on the circle controls to set a fade type.)
Other options: with expanded audio, you can trim just the audio portions (expanded, the audio trim is separate from the video trim - this allows J and L split edits...) of the clip so you can have the audio be silent within a transition, or you can set the two audio portions to meet in the middle instead of overlap, and apply a quick fade out/in with the audio animation controls.
