Single InfoPathform to update multiple SharePoint Lists

Hi,
We have a wide SharePoint list (150+ columns) which is causing issues on our farm.
We are looking to logically group the data into smaller lists related by a single reference number.
We use InfoPath to customize the list forms and, ideally, we'd like to be able to update the list data from a single place.
Is it possible to customize the list form for one of the lists (the 'main' list storing the overall details) and be able to update the other list forms on separate tabs with separate data connections?
I haven't had success trying to do this and am considering an alternative approach: a web part page displaying the main list and connected web parts for each of the related lists but this isn't ideal.
Any suggestions are welcome
Thanks,

Just a thought, why are you promoting all columns as list column. Can't you embed all 150+ filed in infopath form(you can show them in different views) and promote few fields in list column as necessary.
I am just trying to say, let infopath form handle all data inside the xml. Whenever user need to add/edit, they just need to open a item where multiple view can be securities using rule - means who can open different view.

  • How to submit InfoPath form data to multiple SharePoint lists at one time?

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to submit certain data in InfoPath form to separate SharePoint lists at the same time. I have a form that has two views with many data in them. I want to keep these data in separate SharePoint list besides keeping them in the XML. I know that you can submit to a form library using SharePoint document library data connection, but I'm not sure if you can use several data connections for submitting data to multiple SharePoint lists. Is it only possible to do using code? If yes, can anyone show a sample. I have never coded in InfoPath, though I used C# a lot in .Net.
    Thank you!Regards,
    R.D.M.

    This is an old thread but I tripped over a codeless method to do this with OOB InfoPath 2010 and SP 2010.
    Assuming your main InfoPath form is published to a document library with the promoted fields that you want to see.
      Publish your form to a new document library to capture the secondary data fields that you want separated out.
    Using the Publishing Wizard do the following:
    Go to – File then Publish
    Select SharePoint Server “ Publish form to a SharePoint Library”
    Enter location of your SharePoint or InfoPath Forms Services Site:
    accept the default in this field from the first published event
    Next screen, keep the default or change it, Form Library, Site Content Type or Admin Approved
    Next screen, What do you want to do?
    Create a new form library
    Add new document library name and description
    Next screen, Remove all promoted fields not applicable to the new library and add all of the ones you want to see data for.
    Click Next and Publish
    Come back into the form: If you don’t have buttons added directly to the form to submit or update, add them.
    Create a new Action rule on the button
    Label the rule to keep it straight
    Condition, occurs when button clicked
    Add action, Submit data
    Use data connection to the second library created
    Create a second new Action rule on the same button
    Label the rule to keep it straight
    Condition, occurs when button clicked
    Add action, Submit data
    Use original data connection to the library
    Then you can add another action to close the form or do whatever you need.
    Republish the form to both libraries to set the template for both.
    File – Publish – SharePoint Server
    Select Secondary library from drop down follow the rest of the prompts
    Follow step 5a again, select Primary library from drop down, Add back in all of the promoted fields needed for the primary library and follow the prompts.
    DOCUMENT YOUR FORM WELL FOR MAINTENANCE
    Special considerations, your primary library needs a unique ID to reference in your secondary library.
    Your secondary library will need a unique ID that is not related to the primary if you are going to store multiple records for a single primary library reference.
    Example: One form, multiple updates.

  • Single form to update multiple tables

    Hi,
    I have a strange request but I hope it makes sense.
    I have to create a front end to maintain roughly a 100 tables, this will increase to about 200 in the future. I have no control over the table structure so this is what I am stuck with.
    I could create a tabular form for each table but this would mean that each new table that comes on line I would have to add another page
    So rather than doing this what I thought was having one dynamic tabular form where the column headings would come from the table / column headings and the form get / update would be dynamically created. One problem I cant guarantee the tables will have the same number of columns.
    So the user from a drop down list could select a table name and that table will be displayed in a tabular report, they select another table from the drop down list and that table is displayed on the same page.
    That way there would be only one form and I could add a page where the users could add additional tables to be used by the app as they become available
    Is this possible using apex?? Has anyone done anything similar before and if so are there any pointers or examples they could give me.
    Hope this makes sense
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Thanks for this, it is what I'm after and part from the add row functionality I think I have a working version.
    The next thing I have to do is make it work with tables with different numbers of rows, do you have any tips or hints on how best I can achieve this??

    Hi Viswanath,
    If you are using People/User Type Field Column then use below code methord
    SPUser user = web.EnsureUser(loginName);
    item["UserTypeFieldName"] = user;
    Lookup Type Field Column then use below code methord
    public static SPFieldLookupValue GetLookupFieldFromValue(string lookupValue,string lookupSourceColumn, SPList lookupSourceList)
    SPFieldLookupValue value = null;
    SPQuery query = new SPQuery();
    query.Query = "<Where><Eq><FieldRef Name='" + lookupSourceColumn + "'/><Value Type='Text'>" + lookupValue + "</Value></Eq></Where>";
    SPListItemCollection listItems = lookupSourceList.GetItems(query);
    if(listItems.Count > 0 )
    value = new SPFieldLookupValue(listItems[0].ID,lookupValue);
    return value;
    item["LookupField"] = GetLookupFieldFromValue(lookupfieldValue, lookupSourceColumn, listName);

  • Merging two SharePoint lists

    Hello !
    I have 2 SharePoint lists for years 2013 and 2014. I want to merge them and then pull the merged list into PowerPivot. I appreciate any help for that. I don't want to have 2 lists in PowerPivot, so I was wondering if there is anyway that I can merge these
    2 SharePoint lists?
    --update--
    I need to have live connection between the lists.  It means I want to have an automated process in place that can merge two lists once I pulled them into PowerPivot without any manual process of merging the lists.

    I don't know what rights you need to do this, but go to each site and do the following instructions:
    Click on Site Actions
    Click Site Settings
    Click Manage All Site Settings
    Under the Site Administration Group, click Content and Structure
    A window comes up that looks like Window's File Manager. You are in the current site, but you can see that you can browser to other sites in your site collection from the left panel.
    Locate the list you want to copy items from and click the name. You will see all the items, or at least in pages of 100.
    Change the paging quantity from 100 to 1000 in the top right, where it says "Show 100".
    Select all the items you want to copy. There's an icon that looks like a stack of papers, to select all items on this page.
    Click Actions in the toolbar, then click "Copy...". A dialog will come up of the current site collection.
    Choose the destination then, click Ok.
    Repeat this until you're done copying all items from the list.
    Be patient while the copy process completes, then switch to the other 49 sites. You cannot copy from one site collection to another. You can copy between
    subsites or sister sites. If you can't see the Content and Structure link in the Site Settings page, use the 12 hive URL: http://sitecollection/_layouts/sitemanager.aspx You'll
    have the items copied in no time without the help of IT/development.

  • Multiple SharePoint 2010 list items edited simultaneously in InfoPath 2010?

    I am looking to distribute a list of accounts to salespeople, so they can update some of the fields for their own accounts and save the changes back to SharePoint. We are currently sending them Excel workbooks, but this isn't ideal.  Since the requirements
    include drop-down choices, conditional formatting, and data validation, I'm wondering if InfoPath can be utilized so that a salesperson can filter the list by their name and see (only) all of their own accounts (records/rows/list items) at once in InfoPath,
    then make multiple changes to different fields (columns) for their accounts, and finally submit the form--saving multiple edited records simultaneously.  Think Datasheet View, but with conditional formatting and data validation. Is this
    possible in any application?

    Hi ired25,
    Few point to mention here.
    InfoPath form will be linked with each SharePoint List item
    user can change/update their own record using Datasheet view(validation will be applied for sure if it configured as formula)
    you can think to use edit form InfoPath form to leverage infopath's powerful rule engine, which might delayed user's productivity but very safe for data.
    I dont think a InfoPath for can handle multiple item in one single form.
    For permission you can think of "Item level permission" from list settings => Advance settings
    As a thought "Content approval" can be used for data sanity.
    Hope this will help

  • Uploading multiple documents into sharepoint list item with REST in sharepoint 2013 using content editor web part :

    hi ,
    i am trying to upload multiple document files into sharepoint list item. I followed below link for implementaion.
    http://techfindings-prem.blogspot.in/search/label/jquery.multifilejs
    It was working for sharepoint hosted app.
     This complete code is written within content edito web part.
    It was working when i was in root site collection with below change (hard coded the root level url) in code in "UploadFile" function.
    var scriptbase = "http://servername" + "/_layouts/15/";
                console.log(' File size:' + bytes.length);
                $.getScript(scriptbase + "SP.RequestExecutor.js", function () {
                    var createitem = new SP.RequestExecutor("http://servername");
                    createitem.executeAsync({
                        url: "http://servername/sites/cpg/" + "/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('SalesRecord')/items(" + attachmentitemid + ")/AttachmentFiles/add(FileName='"
    + fileName + "')",
                        method: "POST",
                        binaryStringRequestBody: true,
                        body: binary,
                        success: fsucc,
                        error: ferr,
                        state: "Update"
                    function fsucc(data) {
                        //alert( data.statusText + "\n\n" + data.responseText);
                        console.log(data + ' uploaded successfully');
                        deferred.resolve(data);
                    function ferr(data) {
                        //alert( data.statusText + "\n\n" + data.responseText);
                        console.log(fileName + "not uploaded error");
                        deferred.reject(data);
    But the issue came in picture when i was working with the other site collection instead of root one. The url was like below.
    "http://servername/sites/cpg/". This time i need to be there within "cpg" site collection.
    Now if i hard code the url as i did above my code gets break here while come to below line
     $.getScript(scriptbase + "SP.RequestExecutor.js", function () {
    I am getting error when i used below code:
    var scriptbase = "http://servername" + "/_layouts/15/";
     $.getScript(scriptbase + "SP.RequestExecutor.js", function () {
                    var createitem = new SP.RequestExecutor("http://servername");
                    createitem.executeAsync({
                        url: "http://servername/sites/cpg/" + "/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('SalesRecord')/items(" + attachmentitemid + ")/AttachmentFiles/add(FileName='"
    + fileName + "')",
                        method: "POST",
                        binaryStringRequestBody: true,
                        body: binary,
                        success: fsucc,
                        error: ferr,
                        state: "Update"
                    function fsucc(data) {
                        //alert( data.statusText + "\n\n" + data.responseText);
                        console.log(data + ' uploaded successfully');
                        deferred.resolve(data);
                    function ferr(data) {
                        //alert( data.statusText + "\n\n" + data.responseText);
                        console.log(fileName + "not uploaded error");
                        deferred.reject(data);
    Please hekp in this case. This complete code is written within content edito web part.
    Regards:
    Sanjay Joshi

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about upload multiple documents files into library vai REST API.
    As you have said, you have used the hard code url in your code.
    How about use the _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl method to get the url?
    I have used this method to get the url, then use the code in the article you have pasted within a content editor web part to upload the files.
    You can replace the hard code url with the _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl method, then check whether it works.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • HTML + JQuery (CSOM) to add multiple item to a Sharepoint list and get their IDs

    Hi everyone.
    I try to use HTML + JQuery in CEWP to build some sort of analog of InfoPath's repeating table in order to be able to insert multiple items in a Sharepoint list using CSOM.
    The current task is to get the IDs of inserted items (in order to use those IDs later to add attachments to the list items) as soon as they are added to the list. I've tried several ways but couldn't get the IDs of all inserted items. Usually
    I get "-1" as an ID for every item except the last one, which returns me the correct ID.
    Bellow is the code.

  • How to update SharePoint list columns including choice fields programmatically?

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to update multiple columns (which are choice columns) in a SharePoint list.  I'm a newbie at creating event receivers and timer jobs.  Not sure which one to do and where to start first.  There are approximately 4500
    list items in the lists.  I was thinking I could use one list to maintain the Keywords and perform updates or timer job to any targeted lists.
    Scenario.  Anytime a power user of the sharepoint list wants to update any of the choice field items or possibly even the column name itself, they want to be able to make updates to any of the list
    items or other
    lists that contain the new name.  The columns I'm using are all choice fields named Assigned To, Division, Region, Job Title, Department, and Zone.
    Here's sample code for Updating list:
     using     (SPSite oSPsite = new SPSite("team url/"))
     using     (SPWeb oSPWeb = oSPsite.OpenWeb())
     oSPWeb.AllowUnsafeUpdates =   true;
     // get the List
     SPList list = oSPWeb.Lists["Keywords"];
     //Add a new item in the List
     SPListItem itemToAdd = list.Items.Add();
     itemToAdd["Title"] = "My Title Field";
     itemToAdd["Assigned To"] = "Assigned To";
     itemToAdd.Update();
     // Get the Item ID
     listItemId = itemToAdd.ID;
     // Update the List item by ID
     SPListItem itemToUpdate = list.GetItemById(listItemId);
     itemToUpdate["Assigned To"] = "Assigned To Updated";
     itemToUpdate.Update();
     // Delete List item
     SPListItem itemToDelete = list.GetItemById(listItemId);
     itemToDelete.Delete();
     oSPWeb.AllowUnsafeUpdates =   false;
    Any help is greatly appreciated.  Please provide code sample and references.  Thanks!

    Thanks Ramakrishna -- Here's what I have so far.

    Filtering with Multiple Values on same field.
    Default, its supports up to ten values for filtering on one field, but i need more than 10 values..
    How can i achieve this..
    Advance Thanks..
    NS

    Hi NS,
    The "Filter" function could only filter 10 columns by default in list view page ViewNew.aspx and ViewEdit.aspx, the value 10 is hard-coded in these two pages which are located at  C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS,
    you can look at and increase all the value 10 realted to Filter function, this will make viewnew.aspx and viewedit.aspx show more than 10 filters.
    Please firstly back up the orginial files viewNew.aspx and viewEdit.aspx page for a recovery if the file is corrupted by modifying, and do this test in a testing SharePoint environment before touching the production, this modification will affect to all
    the SharePoint lists viewNew and ViewEdit page.
    Also note that these modifications in the original file may be removed by the SharePoint CU or Service Pack.
    Thanks

  • Update multiple records from list box

    The idea is to present a list box to allow for the selection
    of multiple records. The records' primary key field having been set
    up as the value parameter in the list box. Then use a single update
    statement to update all selected records with a common value.
    I have tried to do this using code similar to:
    UPDATE MyTable SET MyTable.MyColumn = 1 WHERE (
    MyTable.MyKeyField IN ( @ListOfIntegers ) )
    Where the parameter is configured thus:
    <Parameter Name="@ListOfIntegers" Value='<%#
    ((Request.Form["MyListBox"]' Type="Int" />
    The idea is that the multiple selection listbox will return a
    comma separated list, which should l work nicely with the WHERE
    [column] IN ( .. ) syntax.
    Unfortunatley if more than one record is selected the
    Complier throws a type conversion error.
    I want to do this using Dreamweaver and C# on .NET.
    Any ideas how to proceed ?

    Are you wanting to update multiple records with the same
    information or
    different information for each record?

  • Derived Column : for Lookup type column with 'Allow Multiple Selection' : True in sharepoint list

    Hello,
    I have one column where field type is Lookup but 'Allow Multiple Selection' is true in SharePoint List.
    So, in this scenario data from the SharePoint list is being exported as below.
    1;#Red;#3;#Blue;#4;#Black;#5;#Green
    Now resultant text exported to SQL Table should be :
    1,3,4,5
    OR
    Red,Blue,Black,Green
    Either way it is fine. How can we get this using Derived Column and Data Conversion?
    I am able to do this for single occurrence using below expression.
    (DT_STR,100,1252)(SUBSTRING([BusinessUnit],FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1)+1,LEN([BusinessUnit])-FINDSTRING([BusinessUnit],"#",1)))
    Please suggest.
    Thank you,
    Mittal.

    Your best bet would be to do this in sql using a string parsing udf as below
    http://visakhm.blogspot.com/2010/02/parsing-delimited-string.html
    You can make it into procedure and call it from oledb command task.

  • SharePoint list InfoPath form not showing updated column information

    I am working with a SharePoint site where I am using custom site columns to update multiple lists. When I update the column information in Site Columns the modifications push to the lists and they update as expected, however, their InfoPath
    forms do not and they still reflect old column information in the available Fields. Typically the form notifies upon opening that the list has been updated, and then updates the available form fields to match. Versioning is set to automatically update the
    template and to automatically upgrade existing forms. Does anyone have any ideas as to why the form would not pull the updated list columns? Thanks for any guidance!

    Hi,
    List\library column in InfoPath is stored differently from site column. InfoPath stores the list of Fields that are published to SharePoint document libraries in a local manifest along with the columns which these fields are associated to. This is
    accomplished by referencing the column ID in SharePoint (a unique GUID value) with the InfoPath Field. While the site column ID will not change.
    You could refer the link below for the scenario related to this difference:
