Site created on mac breaks up when viewd on pc
Hi I am working on a mac in DW 8 and after finishing
a site I am finding that the table is breaking apart in Internet
Explorer when viewed on a pc. Looks good on my mac and a couple
browsers on pc but having the most trouble with IE. A few pages are
okay, but not the ones I extended to be longer. I'm not good with
code, so any ideas where can I get help troubleshooting this?
Examples: Correct page =
http://www.kevilcs.com/
Incorrect page =
http://www.kevilcs.com/costseg.html
This is not a mac/pc issue. It's a page code issue combined
with browser
rendering. And as long as you build your pages without a
valid and complete
doctype on them, you will continue to have these problems.
> I'm not good with code
DW will be a frustrating experience for you in this state.
The real culprit here is revealed in this line of code -
<!-- ImageReady Slices (sep_services.psd
Layout problems with pages built using graphics applications
to write your
HTML probably account for 50% of the posts to this forum,
unfortunately.
All of these issues are caused by the fact that the graphics
apps write the
HTML to EXACTLY match the image, but in doing so, that HTML
will break when
you replace the image with real-world content that has a
slightly (even VERY
slightly) different shape.
But try this - in code view, find and replace all instances
of this -
border="0"></a> </td>
with this -
border="0"></a></td>
(note that all I did there was to remove a trailing space
from the </a> tag)
does that help?

PPT slides pdf created on Mac messed up when opened on PC
Hello folks! I have been saving my PPT handouts as PDFs (using Print->PDF->Save as PDF) and e-mailing to our secretary for printing. However, when she opens them on her PC, the color schemes of the slides and formatting of some background shapes (e.g., boxes) is messed up. For instance, a blue background appears as white and a gray rectangle I have as background for the shape appears smaller than it should be. When she opens pdfs created by other Windows users, there are no such problems. Just mine and another colleague's, both being Mac users. Btw, our slides appear fine on some other PCs.
I thought pdf files were platform-independent. Doesn't seem to be the case here. I have been creating the slides using Office of Mac 2011 and my OS is 10.6.8. Not sure which version of Adobe Reader our secretary has, but she tells me it's the latest version. Is her computer missing something that hampers the display of the slides? Any ideas on what may be going on?
Thanks in advance.

Accessing site files on .mac for iweb when hard drive crashed w/out backup
Hello,
My hard drive crashed. I built my website on iweb, had it stored on my desktop before being able to actually back it up.
I have been able to grab my site files from idisk, but cannot drag & drop the website into my desktop, so I can update it.
Can you please add this feature to the iweb software. I do not understand why I could save the website on the .mac
server, and not access it when I need it.
This should definitely be a feature for working with .mac.
Please let me know. I am a fine artist, and the site is great.
Help please.
KellyannThere is no way for your to do this unless you remembered or knew to backup a file called "Domain" from your hard drive before you formatted it. The pages that you already published and that are still online do not constitute any sort of backup....they are simply the finished product of iWeb's processing. There is no way to import these files back into iWeb for editing from your iDisk or from .Mac.
In the future, you should know that iWeb stores all vital information about your webpages in a single file called "Domain". This file is the one and only file where iWeb stores everything it needs to be able to edit your webpages and publish them. This is the file that you would need to backup in case anything happens to your computer....or you just want to use iWeb on another computer. This file is changed everytime you make a change in iWeb, so in terms of backup, it is wise to make a backup after every major change that you make to your websites so that you always have the most recent work backed up. This file by default is located on your hard drive in the following folder pathway..... HardDrive/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/.... It is best to leave the file here in this location unless you are familiar with iWeb and its treatment of multiple Domain files.
I am sorry to be the one to tell you this bad news. You have lost the ability to edit the sites you have already published. Unless you have a backup copy of this Domain file laying around somewhere, you only course of action will be to recreate your site from scratch. -

New Site created is hidden on Desktop (mac)
I did a newbie kinda thing today. I was playing around with
some new things in dreamweaver and decided to create a new
temporary site on the desktop of my mac. But when I created the new
site, I chose the desktop as where it would be located. When my new
site opened, everything on my desktop is now inside the site. I
have not found a way to get to what I created to delete it because
now it seems when I turn on my mac I am "inside" the temporary
site. Now, when I try to create another site, I get a message
saying that I am creating a site within a site and this could cause
problems. I am not sure what to do at this point. Any macheads out
there that can help me?aprilintx wrote:

Create your local root folder somewhere else, then copy the
files that
were on your desktop in to this folder, go into Dreamweaver
and change
the site definition to us the new folder.

How To Ask Smart Questions

Hi all,
On Windows Platform, encounters error when trying to open an Indesign document in INDD format created from Mac. Error received "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by other application". I am currently using Adobe Indesign CC 9.2 Trial version.
Kindly advise how can i open this document on windows platform and allows me to edit the document.
Thanks!
With Rgds,
Fiona ChoyNormally there is no problem to open any INDD opening on Windows, when created on the Mac.
But Mac user are often not aware on the naming limitations. A file name must not contain /, \, |, :
It should not contain any extended character, it is not a primary problem but will be, if something links to that file, so avoid also: ÄÖÜäöüß+&
You can use all other non A-Z a-z, 0-9 and - and _
I personally would also recommend to avoid spaces.
This is valid for the INDD file itself but also for all linked content. -
i just got my mac, and created a apple id, but when i tried to accept iphoto from the app store, it said: these app cannot be accepted by your apple id. it was already asigned to another id's purchases list. if you don't have accsess to that apple ID and want to receive future updates you will need to purchase.
but i shoulndt have to buy iphoto, should i? what should i do????Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple Id to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new ID. -
What do I have to do in creating a Keynote presentation on my MAC so that when I send it to my iPad, I don't have to re-do the presentation all over again as the fonts have changed, sizing has changed and everything is basically a mess?
I have downloaded many of my previous Keynote presentation into my new ipad mini and not ONE has opened properly
Rather defeats the purpose of icloud, synching, Keynote on IOS etc doesn't it?
Any tips anyone?
Cheers
PhilipThanks for this Gary. Much appreciated. Will help with future ones.
Still a bit like using keynote in 'safe mode' and very limiting.
If anyone produces an 'auto convert' app that will save me the work of fixing existing presentations slide by slide, I'm buying it :-)
Thanks again -
Import sites to a Mac that already has created its own iWeb sites
Working different places I have been using iWeb on 3 different Macs. On these Macs I have created different iWeb sites, and now I would like to merge them all onto one computer, so that I can work with all of my iWeb sites from the same location. I have tried to find a way to import the sites from the other computers which I have backed up onto an external harddisk, but there doesn't seem to be any. I can easily enough move the content produced on one computer to another but that just deletes the iWeb content on the computer I am moving it to which is no good as I want to keep it.
And now we are at it: Is there a way to publish just one of the sites created in iWeb, so that you don't have to publish all seven of them every time you alter or update one of the sites? As Wyodor mentioned iWebSites may be what you want. If your 3 sites are separate files then iWS is just the ticket IMO. Rename the three domain.sites2 files with the actual site name: site2,sites2, site2.sites2 and site3.sites2. Put them all in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb file and launch iWebSites. From there is pretty self explanatory.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

Any idea why in Numbers my COUNTIFS formula keeps breaking? For daycare purpose, I use a spreadsheet that helps me to count how many children I have at 3:15, 4:15 and 5:00. COUNTIFS works well when I create it but breaks after a while. Also I am using a pop-up menu in the cells in time format, does it have any consequence on the formula?

I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011. When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.I know what happened. When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box. Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.

HI - new mac user here
When trying to view certain sites i receive the following text: "missing plug in" can anyone assist?
I think it is related to viewing video or clips.....Well, if you're using Chrome, or Firefox go here this should also work with Safari. It will let you know if Flash is already installed in your browser. If your using Chrome it should have been intergrated. Were you able to get Flash installed so you can view video clips? Post back to let us know. Hope this helps. Also install Perian. See if that helps as well.

Use Mac to make changes to iWeb Sites created with MacBookPro
I created two web sites on my MacBook Pro and would like to do additional work on them using my Mac desktop. The sites are saved on my MobileMe account. I launch iWeb on the Mac desktop and can't see the other Sites. How can I work on these with both computers?
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You will need to copy the Domain.sites2 file from the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your MBP to the same folder on your Mac desktop. If you don't have such a folder on the desktop Mac just create it.
If you plan on moving between computers frequently for managing the sites put the domain file on a flash drive formatted for OS X Extended (journaled) and open the file on that.
Or you can try the method described in this online MacWorld article Managing an iWeb site from multiple Macs
Be sure to read the warnings in the linked page from the article.

Canot edit site created on old mac notebook on my new one
I created a site using iWeb on my old Mac notebook. Everything worked fine,
Then I bought a new MacBook Pro and gave my old Mac to my partner, after deleting my acount and all data on it,
I thought that since I have my iWeb data files on my iDisk and I am using the same .Mac account as before that I would be able to edit the existig site with my new notebook.
However, whenever I open iWeb on the new MacBook, the only option I am presented with is to create a new site. If I say 'cancel' then the programme shuts down. There seems to be no option for opening and editing an existing site. I have searched through all the help and found no answers.
Am I stuck with a website that cannot be edited and am I forced to re-do all the work I did because I upgraded my Mac? Is there no way to import that existing site into the iWeb on my new Mac?
This whole experience is leaving me feeling very frustrated. I would appreciate very much finding out how to be able to edit my existing site with the new Mac I bought -- part of the reason for buyig it was better performance on iPhoto and thus making it easier (I thought) to use iWeb.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6)Am I stuck with a website that cannot be edited and
am I forced to re-do all the work I did because I
upgraded my Mac?
Yes, unless you have a backup of the Domain file that was used to create the site.
