Site Wide Design-Time?

I've got a site that uses a lot of server-side includes, because the client has a lot of redundant info all over the place. When I edit these includes in Dreamweaver, the best way to handle it is to use my stylesheets at Design-Time (a feature I just discovered...lol.) But wouldn't it be lovely to be able to apply that Design-Time file to an entire site, rather than have to apply it to each individual file? Any way to do this via extensions? And why oh why is this not a feature?

It doesn't relate to DT stylesheets per se.   I just put this out there as an alternate approach. Sometimes, no style rendering is easier to work with in DW.

  • Apply Design-Time to entired site

    I'm using PHP templates and dreamweaver wont show my preview
    correctly. Right now I have to select each page (one by one) and
    pick design time. I have my sites defined in DW so you would think
    I could just set a designtime stylesheet to the whole site or
    highlight multiple files and apply them.
    However that doestn work. I have to do each page one by one
    with design-time. Is there a solution to this?

    Here's a link to an extension that will allow you to do that:
    http://www.communitymx.com/abstract.cfm?CID=61265
    Note that this extension is not free, but it's well worth the
    cost of $5.

  • Where to start? - writing an extension to apply design-time Stylesheets to entire site

    Can anyone tell me what type of extension I need, and point me at the right part of the API for creating an extension for CS5 (/CS5.5) to make design-time stylesheets apply to an entire site please?
    Thanks in advance

    Paul,
    Yes, those documents and books about Extensions for DW8 are
    still very
    relevant. The only that has changed since then are a few new
    APIs.
    This is the best Adobe forum for asking questions. Welcome

    Site studio designer from 10gR3(10.1.3.3.2) to 10gR3(10.1.3.5.0)
    Site studio component from 7.7.2.405 to 8.0.0.645
    This issue is not coming for the user who have installed the site studio component and designer but rest all user are facing the problem while opening site studio designer in the server.
    Below mentioned is the scanrio -
    A) All the users(UserA,UserB,UserC) have the admin access to the server.This installation has been done by UserA. UserA only able to open the SS-D and remaining all are getting error
    B) The issue is on the same machine on which site studio designer is installed.
    C) Multiple users are using same SS-Designer
    D) Error occured as soon as the userB,UserC went to select site studio designer from start menu on the same server and getting the same error.
    E) UserB who is also having admin access has tried this option of un install and re-install SS-D,but he is also not able to open the SS-D. Still only UserA is able to access the SS-D.
    Any kind of resolution much appriciated.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,
    Thanks for the suggestions, Yes userB and userC are able to edit regedit.
    I have tried to install SS-D with userB and userC but then too both of them getting the same error, but userA is able to open SS-D.

  • Ver 4: Still no support for Includes or Design Time Stylesheets?

    Wow...well, without either of these I can't make use of this
    product. I guess I'm confused at what types of users this product
    may be marketed toward, although with the amount of focus put on
    Blogs and Blogging and lack of focus on requests already made in
    this forum for some time I'm getting a better idea. Hey, if they
    want to "dumb this down" and make it a price point product that
    purposely sits lower on the totem pole than Dreamweaver, then I
    think that ought to be made more clear in the marketing materials.
    I guess what's frustrating is that it's touted that it "uses the
    Dreamweaver HTML Engine" but can't implement a feature like Design
    Time Stylesheets? Would this put it too close to Dreamweaver in the
    product line? I certainly don't think so but if it did implement
    such a feature it would increase the demographic that could make
    use of such a great product as many users are not going to rewrite
    Includes OUT of their existing sites just to be able to use it.
    Most intermediate to advanced designers will almost always,
    and have been taught, to use includes to minimize page changes in
    multiple places...it's such a common thing to do. But unless an
    included page can be edited inline I have no way to turn my users
    loose with this app. It seems reasonable to implement Design Time
    Stylesheets like Dreamweaver does in which case, the users could
    edit the included page directly and at least see it like it should
    look with formatting which they can't do now because of the lack of
    an applied stylesheet when opening the include file directly.
    Do they expect that once we've written a site using includes
    we should have our content providers use Dreamweaver? I don't know
    about the rest of you but that's asking for a heck of a lot of
    trouble turning non-designer/developers loose with
    Dreamweaver...even using Templates.
    Sorry for the rant, I'm just a bit frustrated as I really
    need an app that can let me make use of "Content Providers" in our
    company. And don't get me wrong, I'm a long time Macromedia/Adobe
    supporter...just hoped something would happen with v4 that didn't
    and was pretty sure it would based on user input on this and other
    forums.
    If anyone has ideas on workarounds for this problem I'd love
    to hear!
    Thx,
    Mike

    Hi. I'm going to reopen this thread instead of starting a new
    one. Maybe someone here can help me figure out how Contribute can
    solve my client's editing woes.
    His site is built in ColdFusion, with template information
    that's stored in the database for each page. Currently this is what
    happens, simplified.
    1. User requests /foo.cfm
    2. Database looks up header, footer, and template to use for
    /foo.cfm, or the page can use "no template" in which case
    whatever's in the page gets put between the header and footer.
    3. The template or the page will contain one or more
    "editable regions", to use a Dreamweaver term. These blocks of HTML
    are pulled out of the database, and can currently be edited within
    the CMS by a browser-based WYSWYG editor.
    The problem is, the WYSIWYG editor in question isn't up to
    the task. Contribute seems to be, but I can't figure out how to fit
    it into a workflow compatible with this site!
    We don't use Dreamweaver and from what I've seen Dreamweaver
    templates aren't going to work in this application. It seems that
    if you make a change to the template, Dreamweaver has to go and
    update all 800 pages that use the template ... ??!? ... if so,
    lame.
    I don't mind pulling out all the HTML content snippets from
    the database and making a "database" on the filesystem of files
    that can be edited in Contribute. No problem. One of these snippets
    may be a "contact us" box or something that's used on 100 pages
    throughout the site, so I'm not going to put stuff like that
    separately on every page.
    If I do this, though, my snippets when I open them to edit
    them in Contribute are missing their CSS. This is because the CSS
    is set up in the header file, which is not included in the snippet
    HTML, obviously. The snippets also won't have the header and footer
    navigation and stuff, but I can live with that.
    How can I get the CSS to show up for my client when he edits
    the HTML snippets?
    The only solution I can think of is to put a stylesheet
    include into every snippet, and then pull that out with a regular
    expression from EVERY include at runtime whenever I display that
    HTML to the end user. Talk about a gross, ugly, non-extensible
    hack. Please tell me there's a better way...
    Thanks for reading,
    - Andrew.

  • Design-time *code*... is it possible?

    We all know of design-time CSS files. But is there such a
    thing as
    design-time code?
    Reason I'm asking is that on one site, files are assembled
    via includes.
    Header, title, content, and footer. 4 files being included
    into one. Except
    Header and Footer are really two sides of the same coin :
    various divs and
    tables are opened in Header and then closed in Footer (title
    and content are
    self-sufficient).
    Would it be possible for me to have "design-time" code that
    closes the tags
    opened in Header so I can work on the file *without*
    re-assembling it with
    Footer? (and vice versa) because right now... if I need to
    edit Header or
    Footer, I first need to copy both into one file, work on it
    there, then
    re-save them separately for inclusion as "header" and
    "footer".

    The other option would have been to create a php file that
    takes a template
    and inserts the content into it via the url, such as
    .com/parser.php?file=content.html
    But a programmer friend of mine told me that was the wrong
    way to do it,
    that it would slow things down. Although I'm not sure how 3-4
    includes is
    any less slow than the quoted method.

  • Site-wide media query file

    Let's say one has a style sheet for detail pages on one's website, say "detail.css", designed for desktop monitors.
      Now one creates a sitewide media query file, e.g., mq-detail.css
    which looks like this to refer to the tablet and phone style sheets:
    /* detail-tablet */
    @import url("detail-tab.css") only screen and (min-width:321px) and (max-width:768px);
    /* detail-phone */
    @import url("detail-phone.css") only screen and (max-width:320px);
    Then how does one refer to the desktop style sheet? If I simply use "detail.css" with a minimum width of 769px, then some browsers like IE8 will not reference any style sheet.
    Would this line in mq-detail.css   work:
    <!--[if lt IE 9]
    <link href="style_sheets/detail.css" rel="stylesheet" media="screen">
    <!endif]-->
    If the screen width is >768 px, will "detail.css" be used for all browsers: that is the goal.

    cma cma wrote:
    I understand the concept but it is unclear how to implement it. In what files does one put these two  lines?
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/global.css" type="text/css" media="screen"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/mobile.css" type="text/css" media="screen"/>
    The links above go on every page of my site as they are needed. The global.css for desktop AND mobile. The mobile.css contains the media queries css which are used to change the css in the global.css file specifically for mobile devices.
    cma cma wrote:
    David Powers' excellent tutorial talks about a number of mobile query issues but he does not discuss using the Site-wide media query file. Do you and Nancy dispense with that step and put all your media queries and CSS links in every html page?
    There isn't any site wide media query file. That would be just a general css file that both  desktop and mobile share, in my view. You only change what is necessary for mobile devices in a dedicated media queries file or you can include them in the general css file.
    cma cma wrote:
    He also says:
    To ensure a level playing field with all devices that support media queries, just add the following line to the <head> of each web page:   #
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
    Yes, that line of code needs to be present on all the website pages.
    cma cma wrote:
    Then Mr. Powers says to use "only"
    media="only screen and (min-width: 401px) and (max-width: 600px)"
    Havent read through the tutorial so can't really comment on that one only to say everyone has slightly different approaches to building pages. I tend to look at my design and see where it starts to break down then use media query break points based on that rather than any view port width.
    cma cma wrote:
    and finally:
    use an Internet Explorer conditional comment to serve a special set of rules to older versions of IE like this:   #
    <!--[if lt IE 9 & !IEMobile]> <link href="iestyles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <![endif]-->
    You can use an IE conditional comment IF that is whats needed to get IE8 to work with your design....depends what css you are using. The more advanced techniques will not work in older browsers.

  • Site Wide Media Query option is ghosted

    Hello,
    I am new to Dreamweaver CS6 and I am trying to set up media queries for my website design.
    When I got to Modify>Media Queries> the dialog box has the option for either "Site Weide" or  "This Document". However the "Site Wide" option is ghosted and I can't select it. I have tried a variety of different HTML documents (HTML 4 and HTML 5) but nothing works.
    Can anyone help me solve this problem?
    Thank You.

    Have you defined your site in DW? You should do that in order for 'Site-Wide' media-query to work. Here's a walkthrough that you can follow to define your site in DW: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/
    Yes - the video is for CS5 and 5.5. But it is no different to CS6 too!

  • Site-wide Error Handler issue

    I'm having a strange one. I'm using CF 9.0, and I have a Site-wide Error Handler set up, with the relative path set correctly.When run-time errors occur, it is calling the template exactly as expected, except for one thing.
    In addition to the error template (which shows a nice user-friendly page), I am also getting the default ColdFusion error information following.
    So...error occurs, it is throwing to the error template as expected, but then also pushing out the default error page.
    It does not do this on CF7 with identical code, so I am thinking that perhaps there is a setting on CF9 Administator that I'm not clicking. But search as I might, I only see the Site-wide Error Handler field.
    Any suggestions? This is driving me batty.

  • Design Time Control Shortcut Information Disappearing

    I am using a visible Design Time Control Shortcut in RoboHelp
    X5. It calls up a video (.swf). I type the path into the field
    called "Program to run when shortcut is activated". I can save it
    and build the .chm file and the video link works. But when I close
    Robohelp and then open it back up, the path I typed in disappears
    and the link is broken. Why is this happening?

    Hi Brook21679
    You are linking to a .SWF. Your use of a control seems to
    indicate the .SWF will remain outside the .CHM, right? If so, you
    may need to script things using JavaScript to construct your path
    on the fly. I have a topic on my site that describes this. You may
    view it by
    clicking

    Otherwise, I'd simply add the .SWF to my baggage files list
    and link from there.

  • Site-Wide Error Handler Filepath

    My error handler page is located at C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\portal\error_handler.cfm but cfadmin (for CF 8) wants a relative path.  I've tried:
    C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\portal\error_handler.cfm
    Inetpub\wwwroot\portal\error_handler.cfm
    wwwroot\portal\error_handler.cfm
    portal\error_handler.cfm
    error_handler.cfm
    and http://www.hostname.com/portal/error_handler.cfm
    Each time is says the specified file does not exist.
    What should the filepath be relative to?
    Thanks!

    It has to be relative to a ColdFusion mapping OR the ColdFusion web root.  The latter has always been the most reliable for me.
    It is a little known feature of ColdFusion that it often has two web roots for which it will search for cfml templates.  The web root defined for the web server such as c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ that you apparently have.  But before searching the web server web root it will search the ColdFusion web root, that on my multi-home flavor of ColdFusion is c:\JRun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\.  It is this latter directory that I put my site wide error and missing template handler fiels.  Then I just place the file names in the appropiate fields in the administrator.
    If you have a default backslash (\) mapping to your web root defined in the ColdFusion administrator, you should be able to input something like "\portal\error_handler.cfm" but I have always had difficulty getting this way to work.

    Is it possible to doo it on design it or do I have to create a loop in the code to do that?

    See go to LocalDictionary->Data Type-> SimpleType Right Click and create a Simple Type giving some Package Name
    Once u have created
    There u will see Enumeration Tab and give Key Value Pairs by pressing New Button
    Now Create a Context Attr and at Type property select that three dots
    Then go to Dictionary Simple Type and select the Package u have given
    then select the Simple type u have created

  • Report does not print exactly same as it appears at design time

    Hello,
    I am using SAP Crystal report with VS 2010.
    I designed a report. At design time every thing appears fine. Margins are set to 0, printer is selected and page size is custom.(right click on report, design>pagesetup)
    When I use <reportname>.printtoprinter(), it dramatically changes the text size and margins of the report in hard copy. I tried literally everything for this. Especially It adds nearly 2 inches extra margin at top.Also , at run time it changes the font size to 8 or 9 points if i have set it to 12 at design time.
    I get the same problem if I do following:
      crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rptRcAbh;
       crystalReportViewer1.PrintReport();
    HOWEVER!!
    When I do this:
      crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rptRcAbh;
    AND when I manually click the print button of crystal report viewer, i get EXACTLY SAME result as design time. This is what I am expecting from printoprinter() method. But Its changing result dramatically.
    Why is this happening? Am I forgetting any setting?
    I must use reprot.printtoprinter() method here. Because I am printing the bill receipt. I dont want the user to go to printpreview then click print. AND I must get same result as design on printed page.

  • Design Time for Processes and Forms

    Hi experts,
    When trying to open  "Design Time for Processes and Forms" in order to create a process, I get a dump.
    Could you let me know what could be wrong ? config? etc..
    Hereunder is a sample of what I found in T.code ST22
    The following checkpoint group was used: "No checkpoint group specified"
    If in the ASSERT statement the addition FIELDS was used, you can find
    the content of the first 8 specified fields in the following overview:
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
    " (not used) "
        referenced node must exist
          READ TABLE object_hierarchy_nodes TRANSPORTING NO FIELDS
                     WITH KEY node_id = object_hierarchy_node_wa-ref_node_id
    >>>      ASSERT sy-subrc = 0.
        ENDIF.
      provider has to be specified (except in case of recursion)
        IF object_hierarchy_node_wa-ref_node_id IS INITIAL.
          ASSERT object_hierarchy_node_wa-provider_id IS NOT INITIAL.
        ENDIF.
    Thanks in advance,
    Louis

  • How to load a file at design time?

    I have a custom component which has a property that takes a path to an xml file.
    I have a file chooser property editor associated with the property which returns a relative path. The component correctly resolves this path at runtime using the application context etc.. but I'm at loss on how to do this at design time.
    The image component in JSC does this correctly as the image is loaded at design time using the url. I'm not sure how this is done but I'm looking for exactly the same functionality.
    The only way I figured to correctly resolve the physical path of the file at design time was through the DesignBean.
    In order to resolve the path and pass the resolved path to the component property I need to intercept property changed event and change the property value. However doing this in PropertyChanged(..) method of DesignInfo bean for my component doesn't do it as this is called 'after' the property value is set and changing the property value at this point results in a circular loop.
    Is there any way to accomplish this? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Is this still unresolved? I'm sure you've read everything at "Building Custom Components"
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/index.jsp#Building_Custom_Components
    by now. I don't have the answer, but if it's still a problem, I'll work with you to figure it out.
